FIXED: ZEN Micro won't format, clean up, etc. and not recognized by PC via

In normal mode, it will start and hang at the Creative screen. When connected to the USB cable, it will kick on and do the same thing.
Starting it up in recovery mode will bring up the recovery menu. You can hear the clicks, select the options, etc. and start any of them. However, once started, it seems to freeze. For example, on CLEAN UP, it stops on the SCAN DISK; on FORMAT, it stops on FORMATTING, etc.
Tried installing drivers on the PC and even using the Creative Recovery Tool - it's just not recognizing the player.
Wondering if the HDD is shot here but I would think that the device would still be recognized by Windows even if the HDD was shot, since, if it IS shot, it still boots up and has some level of functionality.
I Googled the heck out of this and searched here, to no avail.
HELP
!!! ;D

Well, it was the HDD. I upgraded it with an 8GB CF (under $40 on eBay). I then tried to reinstall the firmware, just to be sure it all would be fresh and fine. Nice guide for that here:
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php t=7459
But, unless I missed it, he doesn't say to format the CF first. That help came from here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=23004#M83976
Hope this all helps out someone someday.
Edit: This is a nice little player! Too bad they went with the HDD instead of something solid state. Message Edited by rushpage on 04-05-2008 02:6 PM

• MP3 Player (Zen Micro)won't recognize fully charged battery and won't recognize compu

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. I can not download the new firmware until I can get the computer to stay connected to the MP3 Player long enough. The only way I can use the MP3 Player is if it is plugged into the wall. Any ideas of why the MP3 Player will not recognize the fully charged battery?
Thank you?
Kukmeri?

Is it possible that your battery might be worn out or defecti've? If a fully charged battery only lasts a very short period, there would either be a problem with the player cutting off at the incorrect voltage or the battery itself is not capable of holding much of a charge.

• ZEN MICRO WON'T SYNC CONTACTS NOW .....

My Zen Micro won't sync contacts from Outlook Li've now (when it did before) .... get an error message:
"CTSync
X Unspecified error"
I'm using Outlook Li've (2003) that is linked to my hotmail e-mail; like I said, everything sync'ed fine before!
I've tried all the new downloads, etc.
I've also formatted the player several times.
I can still syn music, tasks, and calendar.
How do I resolve this issue ... no one from Creative Labs has been able to provide any assistance with the issue(s).

FernIe, I have the exact same problem, although now my Zen Micro won't turn on at all via the switch.
My Zen Micro is 5 months old and its only been over the past few weeks I've been having problems. It started with having to hold the switch in the power on position for a least 30 secs and trying it at least 5-0 times before the player would turn on, and having to remove the battery to turn it off. Now, not matter how many times I try the switch or how long i hold it for, the player won't turn on.
The battery is fully charged and I have never had problems with the headphone jack, and I haven't dropped it or done any damage to it that I think could be causing it. I'm having to turn it on by plugging it into my computer through the USB cable and then unlpugging it once its on, it's a pain doing this and means if I want to use it later I have to keep it on, muted, in my bag all day with the lock turned on (that end of the switch works) then once its turned off I can't turn it on again until I get near a computer again.
I've searched the discussions and knowledge base but haven't found an answer. I've just emailed the support team and I'm waiting for their response, would be interested to know what they've told you.
Just letting you know your not alone and I feel your pain!

• ZEN Micro won't turn Off and now won't turn

Hi Everyone, hope you can help me out here.
I have been using my ZEN micro for about week now and it was at first working fine.
Then it started not turning off, so i had to pull out the battery.
This is obviously very annoying, but it got worse over time.
It now won't turn on unless i switch it about 30-40 times.
What is going on, is there a way to fix it and is anyone experiencing the same problem?
Thanks very much,
Fern

• MY Zen Micro everytime I plug it in goes and stays on Recovery?????? Can you help

Every time I plug my Zen Micro in it goes to recovery mode and just stay there. When it boots up it says Firmware Problem, then loads to the diagnostics screen with four options. Option four reboots it fine. Option one and two just freeze up. Option three works then says to plug it in to update firmware. when i do it just goes to recovery mode and sits there. The computer recognizes it but all the updates don't. The help tools had an error when it tried to fix it. The computer says there is nothing on the Zen Micro every thing is erased. Can anybody solve my problem?

Ipad 4 won't turn on at all, and is recognized by itunes as being in recovery mode- when I try to restore it stalls on the portion stating "preparing device for restore" and on the page it says "itunes is restoring the software." Been like this for a day. I read the restore notes on apple, but this seems to be a little more unique than the standard recovery issues. Any ideas as to why I seem to keep stalling during the restore process?

Couple of things I can think of before going to the Apple store.
First, if you can, power off the iPad. Then connect it to the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Leave it there at least an hour then try to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
Also, you mentioned you have the latest iTunes. But it would be good to check the actual version. If the iPad is running iOS 7 you need iTunes 11.1 or later.

my ipod format is exfat(default) and not go back to fat32 but in the properties is corectly fat32

If a restore of the iPod via iTunes does not address the issue, it's likely hardware related. You'll need to have your iPod's screen replaced either by Apple, a third party repair company, or yourself.

Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue mode appears.

• My Zen Micro won't start!

Hi,
my zen micro turns on when it is connected to the computer. but it only says, "creative, copyright...." how do i get it to start again? i tried it on different computers to see if it was a pc problem but that didn't help either. then, i tried charging the battery but that didn't work. THEN, i tried removing the battery and putting it in again. yet, NO LUCK!! does this mean i have to buy a new battery for my mp3 player? HEEELLPPP ME. =)

Mine had the same problem except recorvery mode doesn't work; it'll just freeze if you select to Clean Up, Format, Reload Firmware, or reboot.
It happened to my previous Zen Microphoto also. Simply put, its junk.

• Zen Micro won't transfer files, Creative are not helping

I have had my Zen Micro since early January (bought from Amazon.co.uk) and it has been fine until a couple of weeks ago. One day I plugged it into the computer to put some more music on there and it came up with the dreaded message "Player is not connected". Since then, every time I try to transfer files across, it will come up with this same message. Once I managed to get one song across, then got the message, but now it won't let me transfer at all.
I have contacted Creative Support, and explained what happens. I have tried everything they suggest (different USB cable, uninstall/re-install software, download new 4.00.8 driver, disable anti-virus software, different PC, disk clean-up, etc.) yet it still does not want to work! I keep replying to Support telling them this, but the person at the other end is really not helping the situation at all. So far he has told me to do all of the above THREE times, even after I've told him very clearly that they don't make a difference. I'm now convinced I will never get this player sorted out.
Why won't they issue me with an RMA? Surely we've run out of options by now? I am getting extremely fed up with the whole thing, and right now I don't even feel like replying again because I know I won't get any help
P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP.

Claire does this mean you have tried it on different machines?
Qoute "P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP"
If so than it may be a hardware problem.
Get some ad-aware programs as something maybe restricting you use of the USB ports. AdawareSE is very good.
Right click on my computer on the desk top, goto properties and click the Hardware tab

Click on Device Manager,
Scroll down and click on Uni'veral Serial Bus Controllers, of course with your Micro plugged in look for it. Right click the on the device and goto properties, and see does it denote the devcie is wotrking properly and are there any drivers assigned to it. If so what them drivers are.

• My Zen Micro won't even turn

Hey guys. I need help. I have?a Zen Micro....4GB I believe...and I can't even get it to turn on. I read that you can put it in recovery mode by pushing play while powering up but it won't even do that. I've tried plugging it in to both my wall charger and computer with no luck. Does anyone know what I can do or have I wasted my money by investing in a Zen Micro? The warranty is up as I have had it for about 3 months. Please Help!? Thanks!

First you probably need a new battery for the player. Second if you have not erased your firmware LEAVE IT ALONE. The firmware will not fix needing a battery.Post after gettig new battery.

• Zen Micro won't recoginze in XP

Today, for the first time in months, I connected my Zen Micro to my computer to transfer music files, and to my suprise, it would not recoginize it. The "Add New Hardware" wizard popped up to help me, and I said for it to install the drivers, and forwhatever reason, it could not. So I inserted the disk that came with it and installed all the neccessary software, restarted, and got the same results.
I am working with a less than week old Windows XP SP3 clean install, so i can't install WMP0, but I do have 9 and avaible to me. My Zen Micro's firmware is version 2.20.05, which I have read has corrupt files, and I have all the utitles installed, inculding the newest jukebox drivers, downloaded off of this site. I am not afraid to format my MP3 player or update the firmware. I just need Windows to recoginize it.

No, the link still doesn't work, cause I keep getting 500 errors redirects, but I did find the files you wanted me to download. And I installed them. And I found out I already had them installed. So I opened Media Source only to find that the MP3 player was not listed. All you gave me was a plugin for the packaged media player that came with the MP3 player, which I really do not care to use. This will only work if Windows can mount the MP3 player. At which point, I would rather use Windows Explorer to manage the music files.
I don't know if you understand this, but the MP3 plaer is being dected, but not being mounted. After some peeking around on other sites, other users are having similar problems as me. It seems that there is a corrupt file in the firmware that prevents the driver from recoginizing it.
The link the the article can be found here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t36009-creative_zen_micro_not_recognized
Oh, and btw, what browser are you using? cause I tested the link in both Firefox and IE7, both to no avial.

• FIX: Zen Micro Installer Error - "DemoShield Player has encountered an error.

I just thought I'd post a solution to a problem I was having with the Zen Micro Explorer software installation because it might help someone else. Also, this forum is well indexed by search engines so it will be easy for people to find. It took me well over an hour to track this down.
After starting the Zen Micro Explorer Installer CD, a full screen splash is shown of the creative logo and then DemoShield is started for the software install. It shows an intro screen where you must click 'Next,' on clicking next the DemoShield program was crashing with the generic Windows error "DemoShield encountered an error..." The problem appears to be a software conflict between DemoShield and Apple's QuickTime (any version as far as I know). Disabling the QuickTime startup entry does not help, installing in Safe Mode does not help and exiting any instance of QT in the system tray does not help either.
To fix the problem you must un-install the QuickTime software from your computer by going through the Add/Remove Programs screen in the Control Panel. Once un-installed, run the Creative installer CD again, this time it will run correctly. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install.
Please note that if you have installed iTunes on your system it will not run while QuickTime is uninstalled, this is normal. Re-installation of QuickTime is covered later in this post.
When you have completed the install and restarted your computer you can re-install QuickTime. At the time of writing (4th Sept 2005) QuickTime and iTunes are bundled in one download package so you must download both. You can get the bundle here. Let it download and run the installer. If you already have iTunes installed, the installer will 'Repair' your installation, detecting that QT is missing it will re-install. If you do not have iTunes the installer will installer iTunes and QuickTime.
When you have completed the QuickTime+iTunes install you have got around the DemoShield issue. I hope this of use to anybody with a similar problem.Message Edited by PhilM on 09-5-2005 02:30 AM

Hi Jeremy,
I knew it was an issue with QuickTime because I clicked on 'Send Error Report' on the error message and it took me to this page. It states "An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in QuickTime Player. This software was created by Apple Computer, Inc.."
My QuickTime version is 7.0.2. My operating system is WIndows XP Home (Athlon 64; 52Mb RAM)
Eventually I just tried uninstalling QuickTime and it wroked after I did that. Some screenshots: Click
The contents of my disk.id file reads:
