Fixing Animorphic footage in once non-animprphic sequence.

Greetings All!
Here is my problem:
I captured some HDV footage into fcp. It is in a DV/DVCPRO animorphic format. The clips look correct in the Viewer. They are all 'animorphic on', and they all display in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
My mistake was to create a sequence that was not animorphic! I edited all my clips together, and now I'm ready to export. However, my piece is now in 4:3, with the footage letterboxed!
I went to the sequence, and set it to be anamorphic. That didn't fix it, as now the footage is still letterboxed, and stretched inside a 16:9 aspect ratio. When I brought the same clips over again, they did fit properly into the 16:9 aspect ratio. But all the previously edited clips are still letterboxed.
Beyond bringing over every clip and basically re-editing; is there any way to make the existing clips in the timeline fit back to the correct 16:9 aspect ratio?
Thanks!!!
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Create a new blank anamorphic sequence. Select all from the 4:3 sequence and paste into the new sequence. Then drag the handles to expand the (looks letterboxed) picture until it fills the anamorphic frame.
Actually, this is incorrect considering that the clips in question here are actually anamorphic, and not letterboxed 4:3.
Try this instead:
Alter your current sequence settings to Anamorphic
Select all clips (Command-A)
Bring up the Remove Attributes dialog (Option-Command-V or control-click), then select Distort from the left-hand Video options. Click OK.
This will remove the automatic distortion that FCP introduces when placing anamorphic clips into a 4:3 sequence, allowing your anamorphic clips to fill the frame.
If you've got any Freeze Frames that you've created from the Timeline, they will need to be recreated (since those frames will be 4:3)
If you've already adjusted the Scale of your clips, in step 3, select Basic Motion as well as Distort.

  • How do I sync to 5D footage in an already cut sequence?

Hello, I know we messed up from the beginning but I have a question non the less.
We shot a short on a 5D with audio recorded to a separate device. We didn't have time to sync all the sound at the beginning of the project are were promised a program called Pluraleyes could do it all at the end once the project had been cut. This didn't seem to work.
Does anyone know of any way/trick to sync the sound to the 5D footage in an already cut sequence.
    Thank you.

Saved time...I guess.  Always ALWAYS sync your audio before you edit.  ALWAYS.  Unless you like spending money fixing it.  This will fix it, for $500.

  • Premiere Pro CC (2014) Crashes if I try and locate footage/scrub/create a blank sequence, please help

Hello, this is my first time asking for help on here, I've been going round the forums and web in general for hours and can't seem to find a solution to this. I really hope someone can help me sort this.
Every time I try and open a project in Pr CC 2014 on my Mac Pro  I get the "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will try and save your current project."
People usually ask for as much detail as possible, so to that end: This is a project that I started on my MacBook Pro Retina, so when opening on my desktop it prompts me to locate the footage. Once I find the first file, as soon as my mouse moves over the clip (at the point that scrubbing would be evoked) I get the warning and it shuts down. I tried to open a blank new project, which does not shut down, until I go to import the footage and again, it only crashes when the mouse moves of the clip to scrub. I tried locating the footage in the finder to sidestep the Media Browser, and that allowed me to select the clip, but crashes once I tried to import it. I thought it may be the footage was corrupted, so I tried other clips with the same result. It also crashes if I just try to create a new sequence, with no footage at all in the project.
All my other Adobe apps (AME, Pl, Ae, Br, Ai, Ps, Lr, Id, Mu) are working fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Pr and AME twice now. I have followed the advice of other posts and renamed/reset/deleted the preferences, plugins in the Library, and adobe folder in users/username/Documents. I have ensured that I have read/write access in all folders. I am running Yosemite on my desktop, but so is my laptop and Pr is running flawlessly on that. I never had this problem with Pr CC pre 2014, so I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue.
I've also tried turning it off and on again!
I have reached the end of my tether and consider myself well and truly defeated by this problem. I really hope that someone out there can figure what on earth is going on!

    Hi Man0fst331,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.

  • HD Footage looks blurry in SD Sequence

So this may be a very simple question, or it may not.  I'm almost entirely switched over from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.  So far there are some really amazing things about Premiere that I'm very impressed with.
I have run into an issue where I shot some footage for another company in AVCHD 1080p 30fps (footage is inside a 60i container) and when I drop it into an NTSC 4:3 sequence and zoom in to about 135 percent it looks extremely blurry (the client requires the final cut to be NTSC 4:3).  In Final Cut Pro, I've shot in 1080 HD plenty of times then just dropped it into an SD sequence, adjusted the scale and position, and was able to work in the SD sequence from that point on.  While the end result would not look quite as sharp as the original 1080 HD footage, it still looked quite good (better than much of my footage shot in SD).  Since the HD footage is shot in a much higher resolution than 720x480 I was able to zoom into close to 150 percent without seeing any significant fuzziness in the image.  So now that I'm zooming in about 135 percent, I'm very surprised to see the amount of blurriness that I'm seeing.  I've tried rendering the footage and exporting the footage and i still get the same blurriness.
Below are some still images I exported from the footage
Above is a still image from the original HD footage in a 1080 HD sequence
This second image is from the HD footage in a 720x480 sequence at 100% scale
This third image is from the HD footage in a 720x480 sequence at 135% scale
As you can see, the third image looks very blurry.  When exporting from FCP the image would generally be at least as sharp as the second image even when at 135% or 150% scale.
Is there a better way to edit HD footage in an SD sequence in order to not lose so much detail?  Should I nest the footage and then drag the nested HD sequence into the SD sequence?  Or is there something else going on that I'm just not aware of?
Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi Mike,
When you initially drop the HD clip into the SD sequence, are you seeing the whole image in the frame, or just a blown up middle part? If you are enabling "Auto Scale to Frame Size" in Preferences, or manually on the clip BEFORE scaling, this could be the issue. Right-click on the clip and make sure "Scale to Frame" is off, then scale using Motion effect to suit your needs. This way, you are starting out with all the HD pixels available, so when you scale up, the picture should remain sharp as you are viewing a subset of the larger HD image in your SD "window".
Looking at your sample images again, I think that is the case - it is being scaled down to SD, then blown up again using Scale, and that is where the loss is coming from.

  • How do I create a non-JTS sequence connection pool using JTS

I'm getting all kinds of errors (DB deadlocks and exceptions) using JTS with sequences. From reading several posts, it is necessary to create a separate non-JTS connection pool.
I've seen several postings on how to do this in the sessions.xml file, but how do I do this in Java code?
    What I am trying is:
    SequencingControl seqCtrl = ((oracle.toplink.publicinterface.DatabaseSession)serverSession).getSequencingControl();
    seqCtrl.setShouldUseSeparateConnection(true);
    seqCtrl.setLogin(sequenceLogin);
    I've also tried:
    serverSession.addConnectionPool("sequencing", sequenceLogin, 2,5);
but neither work. The problem with these settings is that the sequence properties on my DatabaseLogin are not honored.
My table name is T_SEQUENCES and my preAllocation size is 5. However the SQL that is generated by this setup is:
    "UPDATE SEQUENCE SET SEQ_COUNT = SEQ_COUNT + 50 WHERE SEQ_NAME = 'T_GROUPS_SEQ'"
I'm guessing these may be default values, but I don't know where else to override these except for on the DatabaseLogin I am passing in.
I know this setup works, because it is the same DatabaseLogin I use for non-JTS configuration.
Could someone provide me a code-snippet on how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Nate

I'm not using XML files, all of my setup is in code. I'm not sure how I would use the setLoginAndApplySequenceProperties(DatabaseLogin) call or if it would address my larger problem.
The main issue I don't want to lose here is, I've got an application where I'm trying to use JTS with JBoss and SQL Server. It's a SessionBean/POJO architecture. The problem I was having that started this thread is that sequence number allocation causes a database deadlock.
My thought was if I opened a 2nd connection pool dedicated to sequences, it might resolve the issue. I was able to do this with the workaround I posted, but it didn't fix anything. I now get a different error related to my newly inserted objects.
From working with this off-and-on over the last several months, I would say that I don't think TopLink/JBoss/SQL Server using JTA can be made to work.
I know that TopLink has a plug-in architecture and in theory if I implemented ExternalTransactionController and SynchronizationListener for JBoss correctly, it should all work.
But, I've got the JBoss 4.0.0 source that I can step through, I've got all the recent updates to SQL Server and the JDBC driver, and I'm following everything I've been told so far on how to make this all work.
    It plain doesn't work.
Furthermore, I haven't found anyone (this group, JBoss group) that has gotten this to work (TopLink/JBoss/JTA). This is an important item to us, we'd like to get this to work, and we would be happy to work with Oracle Consulting on this or whatever it takes (already opened a TAR on this).
Are there any other support options available to making this work?

  • Footage changes once color project is loaded from disk

    Hi all,
I have a big problem in Color 1.0.4.
I send a 20 minute edit from FCP to Color. All is fine. The edit is the first part of a marriage service. A shoot taken with two camera.
I did originally put the sequence together using Multi-Cam, but then I replaced all the clips with the originals as I had problems when I first went into color with this.
The problem is that one of the angles appears to have lost the information as to where the INOUT points are...This happens once the color project has been loaded from disk. (ALL is fine until I shut Color and reload the project). The sections in the sequence where this camera is used always plays the source file for that camera from the beginning. (A shot from outside the church!) This is causing me all sorts of problems and I cannot seem to get past this. I need to save the work and then re-open in FCP to see what the grade looks like as I don't have an external monitor.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
The thumbnails show the correct footage from the camera. Adding a section to the render queue results in a render of 1 frame. Even though the IN and OUT points on the Color timeline show roughly 20 seconds, the render view shows an in and out point one frame apart...
    Thanks in advance,
    Richard

    What is/are your sequence codec/settings?
I know I get this sort of behavior on my external monitor if I've got a Kona export settings mismatch, but not on the timeline.
When you observe the application running back to "first frame" on park, but finds the correct images on play, sort of infers that there is a broken reference somewhere in how FCP is recalling the media.
    Bad container? frame rate mismatch?
But before you re-edit, can you save the effort to this point by "Baking out" a movie of the sequence?
It would be at least interesting to know if QT finds the right media at your edit points. At that point, a fairly straightforward movie could be razored and sent to COLOR...

  • How can I adjust RED files resolution once in a sequence?

Following on from my other RED posts....
I have read that by adjusting the source settings of a an rd3 file I can switch between different resolutions according to whether I am editing (for smooth playback) or exporting.
All this can be done by importing the RED file just once.
I have set up a 4K sequence and looked at the source settings but there doesnt seem to be a option for resolution.
I also looked at the sequence settings but they are greyed out.
Is there a way to work with red files that allows smooth playback during editing but so I can export at full res...all by importing the red file just once?
    Thanks

asking more about using footage proxies for R3D assets.
Older RED Importer plug-ins used to have a way to change the working resolution of the clip directly, by right clicking and selecting Source Properties (or some such).  It's the same method we use now to change things like ISO, color balance, etc.  There were video tutorials about this work flow around on the Internet.  His description of the issue reminded me of those.

  • What project preset do I use? AVCHD and DSLR footage being used in same sequence

I am using a Canon DSLR T3i and Panasonic HC-X920. They can both shoot native 24p which is how I will be recording. When I set up my CS6, what project settings should I use? I want to mix the two sources on the same time line so I'm confused on how to do this because on the sequence settings I can only choose either AVCHD or DSLR. I want to do simultaneous multi-camera editing on the same timeline. So its not like I can set up two different sequences with different settings because I want to be able to cut back and forth within the same sequence while using both cameras.  (problem is... two different types of footage ).
    Thank you - Mark

Thank you so much for your input. Yes, I should have been more specific when it comes to the frame rate; it is indeed 23.976 for the T3i as well as the Panasonic. I have mixed T3i footage recorded at 23.976fps and then tried to mix in a Canon hf-M41 (avchd) camcorder which records in 60i "supposedly". Although Premiere says it is 29.97 when I bring it into the editor. Anyways when I would mix these two formats it looked like crap. The preset was set up for the DSLR and the hf-M41 played like it was in slow motion even upon rendering and exporting. I would get the red line above my M-41 footage because it didn't match the preset settings. I would then render it thinking it would look right but...nope. I just bought the Panasonic HC-X920 today from BandH, it has a 30 day return policy so I will see how the T3i and Panasonic work together within Premiere. I purchased the Panasonic because the Canon M-41 footage looked so crappy when it was mixed with the T3i in the timeline(because of the different fps and interlacing). I used the Adobe Media Encoder but I got the same results of crappy slow motion jittery footage from the M-41 when I tried to convert it to a 23.976fps .MOV file. Since the Panasonic shoots native 23.976, the two "should" work better together. My only concern is the difference in codecs because the frame rate should be identical. I don't want to get that red render bar when I bring the Panasonic footage into the time that was set up for a DSLR  or vice versa. If I do I'm afraid of the obtaing the slow motion effect again. I must have the auto focus from a camcorder when I'm shooting on a jib or other tough moving shots like a steadicam.

  • Warning:  Sometimes Final Cut exports a non-drop sequence as drop-frame

Just a heads up. This has been maddening for me. On occasion I will export my program for compressor and it will be drop frame when it should be non-drop.
These are sequences which have exported fine before. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Tonight I've lost about 2 hours because of this. At least I knew to check it before compressing the file and sending it out to our contractor because it has happened in the past.
By the way shutting down FCP and opening it up again seems to cure the problem.

  • Collections Missing Files - Is there a way to fix them all at once?

    Hello,
Due to new computer, all files has been moved to a new location.
Obviously, the collections I have can't find them now and reporting "Missing Files".
Now, I need to fix them by finding them folder by folder, and since the collections contains items from many folders, It will take hours to fix them all so I wondered if there is a way to tell Bridge about the new location of the files all at once.
I hope I managed to explain what I'm looking for.
    Thank you,
    shlomit

Which OS?  If on Windows you can find your Bridge collections list at (win 7 bridge cs6 example):
      C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS6\Collections
The files in Collections folder are .filelist - text xml format.  You could copy filelists from the old system's Collections folder to the Bridge AppData Collections folder in your new system so long as all the referenced files listed in the collection filelists are in the same disks and folders on your new system.

  • Fix Applet Freezing for once and for all!

You know its really surprising to me that this applet freezing bug isn't being seriously worked on by Sun or Microsoft or whoever is responsible. I have been plagued by this for 3 years now and there is no improvement.
Everybody who plays online games on the internet knows of the notorious Java "freezing" problem (there are notes in the FAQ's of all the major gamesites: pogo, gamesville, bingo.com, bingoonline, etc), and it is commonly understood that it is caused by sound conflicts.
This is a problem that really irritates hundreds of thousands of people every day, and is doing a lot to give Java a very bad name. If I tell prospective customers that my games are Java based they wince and tell me that they would prefer Flash front-ends because of this freezing problem.
I know what some of you are thinking: Q: Why not loop a silent sound clip in the background? A: That only results in a 70% improvement in the freezing, but when people play casino games nonstop they still freeze at least once every half hour. Q: Freezing is due to bad programming A: Thats a crock. I have yet to hear about a single online applet with sound that doesn't suffer from this problem. Turn off the sound, and the problem goes away completely.
So seriously, if any of you are as sick of this as I am, please vote for this bug in the bug parade:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4394767.html

    Hi there,
As I mentioned in my message the only workaround that marginally improves the situation is to loop a silent sound clip while the program is running. I'm not sure if this problem occurs with the plugin or even java 1.2- it doesnt make much difference to me because I still have to write my games in java 1.1 so that they can be used on most browsers without requiring the players to install special software or plug-ins. I do recall seeing a "patch" on the microsoft site last november that was supposed to fix this problem, but obviously it didn't..

  • When is Apple going to fix the new OS once and for all?

Since upgrading my iPhone to the new OS, I can no longer:  Open internet links contained in emails/messages; set custom ring tones for my contacts (or more accurately, I can set them but the phone will not retain them); get pop-up reminders (even though they are properly set in my calendar); or use the Bluetooth feature to pair with the hands-free link in my car.  Every one of these features worked flawlessly under the old OS.  If Apple is not going to fix these issues, they should at least allow users to revert back to the old operating system.  Am I the only one experiencing these types of issues and frustrations?

I am having none of these issues, nor is anyone I know.

  • 16:9 footage in a 4:3 sequence

i have some 16:9 footage that needs to go into a 4:3 sequence because all the other footage is shot 4:3. the only way i can see to have the 16:9 stuff looks like 4:3 is to bring it into the timeline then disort it -33% then enlarge to about 134%. is there another way? the final output will be quicktime and dvd.

Sorry... I misunderstood your question, that is exactly what should have happened. The only way to make 16:9 into a "full frame" 4:3 aspect is to "zoom in" to fill the frame as I think is what you have already done. I would use Motion to scale the clip frame size until it looks like you want. Double click the 16:9 clip in the timeline or drag the clip from the Browser into the Viewer. Click the Motion tab in the Viewer window and scale the clip % until it fills the frame.
