Fixing Antenna for the airport card

I am trying to fix the antemma cable to the airport extreme card that I just install (power mac G5), but the connetion simply can't fit (2 small cables at the in side of of the G5 computer - is this correcti cable?)
please advice, thanks for the help

One point to note: the current PowerMac G5 model (ie the one with the dual-core processor) cannot be used with the Airport Extreme card sold by the Apple store and dealers. This PowerMac G5 model requires a wireless interface adapter that is factory installed - and if yours was sold without that card installed, you need to order it as a service part from an Apple dealer.

The Airport card in my late 2008 unibody macbook has broken and I'd like to buy another online, what is the part number?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Click on the Apple in the upper left corner of the screen, then About this Mac, then More Info, then find Network, and click on AirPort. That will give you details.
Why did you conclude that the card itself is broken instead of just a network configuration problem?

  • Failing/ed imac crt antenna or failed airport card?

running on dsl via airport. airport signal started to fail intermittently after a few minutes. this started after son got a power book after his crt with airport failed on an oldert crt model.
called mac asssistance and for a fee they could not help me other than the old move/turn off the portable phones. the thing always worked before with the portable phones nearby so they suggested "external" interference. I asked about airport extreme and they said yeah, try that, more robust at zeroing in on frequency. bought airport extreme after first consulting genius at genius bar in clarendon who assured me it is the built in antenna not the airport card. he had no airport card on hand to test my computer (does not do obsolete thank you). he was flip and certain and suggested i just junk the thing since the repair is very expensive or try an external antenna from quickertech which apparently does not exist (antenna not company). i can get signal using ethernet connection and can get the airport to work sometimes when the computer is cold. as the session contnues, the signal fades and stops. i am exasperated that mac has dropped support for this product so soon after it made them millions. anybody had the same problem and found a solution? otherwise my next step is the repair facility. this is a sweet machine not going to a dumpster in the name of conspicuous consumption.

This is a duplicate post. I replied to your other post last week and you didn't respond to that reply. Basically i said there that I have never heard of the antenna failing in an apple computer. A solution however may be an external ethernet wireless bridge since they have an external antenna. Perhaps others have more to add though.
Did you actually try turning off any nearby phones? You seem to dismiss the idea because it always worked before, but they could be contributing to interference, or someone elses phone could be. What about moving the computer? Does it help if the computer is closer to the base station?
Dropped support so soon? Airport hasn't been made in a couple of years now, and its not like its not supported at all, they just don't make them at all. Apple is glad to help you if you pay them for the privelege, same as for every other product they make. All the software they amke works with it just fine, which is kind fo the definition of supporting the technology.

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem.  You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites.  They have parts and installation instructions.  To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

  • Where can I buy the airport card for the G3 ibook?

    Hi
I recently purchased an old ibook G3 and am wanting to use it wirelessly. I can't seem to locate the airport card that is needed to make it work. Can i buy it from the mac store online? Also, i have the airport extreme at home...will it work on that network with the airport card?? Cheers

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, the original AirPort card the iBook needs is no longer available from Apple.
I just checked these links for the original AirPort card today (ranked in order of price, lowest to highest, shipping not figured):

Yes, it will work with your AirPort Extreme Base Station.
    Good luck with the iBook.

  • Substitute for original Airport card

I have a DVD Special iMac with a dead ethernet port. I had been using it with a USB ethernet adapter. Going through the junk in the closet, I found the Airport adapter card that came with the Airport card for my iBook and the old graphite base station that went with it. Since Apple dropped support of the graphite base station with OS X Tiger, it went in the closet and a new Netgear WiFi router went into service. It happens that the guts of a graphite base station is a Lucent WaveLan Silver PCMCIA card. I got to wondering if the WaveLan card would work in the iMac adapter. The WaveLan card is longer than an Airport card since it has an antenna built in, but a bit of snipping with a wire cutter removed part of the plastic bracket on the adapter which was in the way. There's an antenna jack under a tiny plug on the card, and lo! the iMac's antenna plug fits it. I plugged it all together and plugged the iMac back in to the wall.
It works. No extra drivers or anything. OS 9.2.2 works. OS 10.4.11 works. Apple System Profile sees it as an Airport card. The old graphite airport base stations are cheap (there's a big pile of them at our Goodwill store for $15 each). You do need the adapter, which is also usually cheap because people who bought Airport cards for their iBooks didn't need the adapter.
I figured the WaveLan card might work in OS9 because they were supported on Lombard and Pismo PowerBooks, but unlike the PowerBooks, it also works in OS X without a 3rd party driver.

John, Welcome to the discussion area!
The second choice would be an Ethernet wireless adapter. These devices require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device.

  • How do I get to the airport card in a Nehalem?

I'm thinking my airport card may not be connected correct or something but I cant figure out where it is to check. I have the 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" I can't find any videos or images of this model mac. When i go to about this mac the card shows up under airport but Airport Utility doesn't show up anything just says rescan.

    drdre74 wrote:
    I don't have a Airport base.
In that case AirPort Utility won't show you anything useful.
I have a Linksys WRT160N. As of right now my airport card wont even find it. My iphone and psp and ps3 connect to the router network just fine.
Two things that I can think of that might explain what you see: (1) The AirPort card is bad. (2) It's not connected correctly to its antenna(s). (I've seen stories about such problems.) I wonder if Apple Hardware Test could help you eliminate the first possibility.

  • Normal range for the Airport express in iMac

I have a pretty new iMac and since I installed I thought it has a low sensitivity. At the beginning I thought it was because the wireless router was too far, but yesterday I make a test and I put the router in front of the iMac, 3 meters of distance, direct vision without obstacles, and the wifi signal received by the iMac was 55% mesured with AirRadar. I think this is very low
Do you think there is any kind of problem with the Airport card? I read that in some versions of iMac there was a problem with the conexion between the antena and the card but I don't know if this happen in the latest versions of iMac

airranz, Welcome to the discussion area!
The wireless range should be much greater than that. It could be a fault of the iMac, it could be a fault of the wireless router, or it could be that wireless interference is destroying the wireless signal and drastically shortening the range.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.

  • The AirPort card on my MBP says "Not Configured"

I am traveling overseas and all of the sudden my AirPort card won't function. It says "Not configured" and I have not been able to turn it back on in order to log into WIFI networks. I tried the Network Assistant and it tells me the AirPort is not on but it is also unable to turn it on. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Can you see the AirPort card in System Profiler (Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info)?
Here are some things to try to reset the connection settings on your Mac:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences (not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

  • How to change contry code on the airport card of a Macbook

    Hi all,
    I've a big frustrating problem.
I'm in italy with a MacBook bought at apple store in italy, I've around my house 8 different wireless network all in channel 6 or 11 , so to avoid interference I've set my router to channel 13 (in europe the wifi channel are from 1 to 13, in the Us from 1 to 11) i've no problem with my iMac 21" (but in the system profiler it tells me as country code FR instead of IT), but every time I turn on my macbook the country code of the airport card is set to US, so I can link only on network on channels from 1 to 11, what can I do to enable the last two channel on the macbook?

    Hi,
The "Intel HD graphics 4400" is soldered to the motherboard (or integrated) and you can not change or swap out. You have to live with that and saving money to buy another machine.

    Hi,
I purchased an Apple MB988ZM/A Airport Extreme Wireless Upgrade Kit for my 2.93GHz 8-Core 2009 Nehalem Mac Pro a couple of months ago.
The kit includes 2 screws inside a transparent pack. The description on the pack reads:
    "HH111009 603-9823-A Assembly Screws China".
The screws are approximately 4.5mm in overall length, of which about 3mm is the thread.
The thread appears to be fine, and the round head of the screw takes a Philips 00 screwdriver tip.
I have checked one of the screws with my "screw gauge" (I am a very keen DIYer!), and its diameter measures 1.5mm.
    Hope this helps.

Hello! After I've done my last softwere update I couldn't buy or get any free apps on the apps store. There was an error on my paymant method.I reintrodius my data for the credit card and again error for my credit card.I've changed the credit card and the same.why???????

I have tried all those things I even updated the software to the new iOS system and it still did fix my problem.
What happened is that my garage band looks like it will open then it shuts down.
I have lot of important things on my garage band and I'm afraid that if I uninstall it deleting it then reinstalling it all my work on it will be gone and I can't have that happen.
Everyday I am hoping that when i go to open the app that is will work but it doesn't it gets ready to turn on then it shuts off , the app doesn't even open all the way and turns off.
I really hope I don't have to erase it.
It'll say it's ,lading my songs then it shuts down .
If I waited for the App Store to come up with an update for garage band should I wait till then to update my app so it doesn't get damaged . I don't want to erase it and all my data get erased . I figured if I wait for an update then my garage band will reset itself but won't delete my data. I'm not sure if that will help. Is there anything you or anyone else might know that can help me with this matter ?
    Thank you

  • If the Airport card is removable... why can't we put a new "N" version in?

Why can't we put a new card that supports "N" in our recently bougth (under a year old) computers?
What I dispise is that I personally own 15 Macs and not all of them are the latest models. So this leaves me with a "mixed" network with many of them using "G" cards.
This slows things down, and in the case of my home network (5 macs including a trusty G4 imac that is in the kitchen serving up music throughout the house) I feel that I will never be able to use the abilities of the "N" networks
This could lead to the failure of the iTV / Apple TV product for many of us. I am a Mac addict from day one and buy the latest models of everything, but held back on this because it would not work well on a mixed network.
I hope someone at Apple reads this or realizes this. We need to be able to pop out the Airport card, pay for a new one and pop in the "N" one. This allows us to stay current with the new technology.
It is not like we don't already know how to install them.
Does anyone out there sell an aftermarket version? I had heard that Belkin might offer one, but had not seen anything yet.
