Fixing Broken Link

Hello All
I have a Robohelp 7 version installed on Windows XP OS and I
use the most recent IE. I imported a .hlp file and created a
webhelp out of it. It worked fine. I generated a HTML help (.chm
file type). Before generating I found there three links broken in
total. The index.htm itself was broken and apart from that two
other links were broken. I rightcliked on the broken link and
clikced Restore. The .chm file generated has TOC and when I clicked
on the topics all I see is a blank page showing "page cannot be
displayed" Any help.
Thanks
Raj

Welcome to the forum
My guess is that the CHM is on a network drive. Move it to a
local drive and it should then work.
See under Authoring on my site for an explanation.

Sorry about that. I am not exactly sure where the problem is, but I know it takes place after I put the <nav> in (in the html portion). If I understand what I am learning, the CSS at the top will structure my html code so I would have thought the CSS tageting my nav would be the focus. Maybe it is a different section though.

  • RH8 fixing broken links

In RH8, I'm trying to fix broken links. I find the topics, then they move from the Broken Links folder to the correct folder but then the topic still looks like it has a broken link! Can anyone advise? here's a pic

    Hello again
Unfortunately you are totally misunderstanding things. Please allow me to try and explain better.
ANY folder in your project is going to have an FPJ file inside it. This is a "behind the scenes" file that RoboHelp uses to keep track of the files that are part of the project.
In the image you provided, there are two folders in the project location with similar names:
    Ranger_Help
    Ranger_Help_
Only the Ranger_Help_ appears to actually be part of the project because the other folder Ranger_Help isn't appearing in the image capture showing the project inside RoboHelp. So unless something screwy happened, you should not find an FPJ file inside that folder. Then again, you may find one. It all depends on what happened.
Personally, I'd look inside the Ranger_Help folder and see if the files representing the broken links are inside. They may well be. And if so, I'd copy them to the Ranger_Help_ folder and see if that resolves things.
This project is beginning to resemble a bowl of spaghetti!
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I fix "broken links" in iTunes?

    Hey Guys!
I just got my first ipod and I'm going insane trying to set it up this morning. The main problem is that for some reason iTunes decided to add each of my songs twice, but then marked one with that "!" sign that I think idicates a broken link. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and for the life of me I can't determine why it's doing this.
Shouldn't it just automatically know the files don't exist and take them out of my library?
Or, can I tell it to go fix the broken links? If so what is the command for doing that?
I am running Windows Vista if that makes a difference. And my brand new ipod is a 16GB Nano (but I have about 70 GB of mp3 files - I'm having to pick and choose what goes on my Nano, which is fine).
I'm sorry if this turns out to be a "duh" solution but I can't find a good answer anywhere online (I tried ITLU and that complex playlist solution from PaulMayne.com already, to no avail).
    Thank you so much
    Heidi
    heidicorinne at gmail.com

I'm having the same problem. Also using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2).
Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Is there an automated way to fix broken links?

I've been revising a large online Help system. I've added
many new topics. I've deleted topics. I've changed topic names of
topics already in place. As a result, the system has many broken
links. Is there an automated way, or a utilility, to fix these
links? This is a very large help system.
    I'm using X5 (WebHelp).
Feel free to answer via email, and thanks!

When you delete RH offers to fix the links to that topic. If
you did not take that option then you can only fix it manually. Did
you perhaps delete outside of RH?
I don't see how adding a new topic can break a link as
nothing links to it until you create the links.

  • Is there any quick way to fix broken links without doing it manually?

I am trying to fix my broken links and have so many. I went to one of them and deleted the link and dreamweaver asked me if "Do you also want to fix the remaining broken references to this file?" Will this automatically fix the broken links? Is there a better way to fix them?

    Maybe this will help you....

  • Fixing broken links

Can anyone tell me if there's a way for iTunes to delete broken links in the music library? I recently bought a new hard drive, and after transfering my music collection onto it, my iTunes library is full of double entries; one for the old location, and one for the new one.

Several ways to Clean Up Your Library by Removing "!" or ‘dead links’ within iTunes:
If you move, edit, delete or otherwise change a music file listed in the iTunes Library with a program or tool other than iTunes, you may end up with a "!" in front of the song name. iTunes does not keep track of music file changes made outside of iTunes.

    EASIER:
    Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/iTunes/RemoveDeadTracks.txt (right-click, save-as)
    Rename it to RemoveDeadTracks.js.
    Run iTunes.
While iTunes is running, double click RemoveDeadTracks.js to run the script.
It will remove all the exclamation marked tracks.

  • Fix broken links in bulk?

    Hi All:
We currently have hundreds of InDesign CS5 documents with various pictures linked that are housed on our company server. Our IT department will be moving our server, therefore - the address will change and all of our picture links will break. They will be copy/pasting our documents, so the file heirarchy will not change - just the server address. e.g., //servername/marketing/pictures will now be //newservername/marketing/pictures. Is there a way to update the links automatically? or using some kind of script? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This may well be the script that you are looking for from Kasyan…

I don't think using a VPN is a viable long term solution, maybe a temporary work around!
If you want to try using one take a look at hotspotshield.com, please note I can't vouch for them, I only set up the VPN to see if the problem was local to the UK.
I used the details for securing an iphone connection (http://hotspotshield.com/clientless/iphone/get_started.php) to set up an L2TP tunnel directly in Mac OS X (i.e. not using their client). I'm not sure how to do this in windows XP or Vista.
As for a solution to the problem I'm not sure I believe fast.co.uk when they say they can't reproduce it. It looks like an issue between fast.co.uk and apple/akamai to me, since more than one fast.co.uk user is seeing it and it is a problem for both the windows and osx version of itunes.
I have included my traceroute info if fast.co.uk or apple need it to diagnose the problem.

  • I have to keep fixing and re-fixing the same broken links in iTunes

Does anyone have a reason, or better yet, a solution as to why I have to keep re-fixing the same dead tracks in iTunes 11? It doesn't seem to matter if i Use 3rd party apps or iTunes Locate feature, I can fix a link then it will just be broken again later. Not all the time though.

    Hello, deevho,
First you need to find out if the distributed songs have anything in common, for example the date added or the Artist, since it is obviously not the name of the album. If you can identify some common feature you can create a smart playlist
File > New > Smart Playlist
and define a rule, like "Artist is "
and all your songs will appear in one playlist.
Then select all the songs from the playlist and activate the Information panel "cmd-I". Now set the album, the genre, the artist to a common name.
If however your songs don't have a common feature, then collect the songs by adding them with drag& drop to a regular playlist, and  then proceed as mentioned before.
    I hope that helps.
    Regards
    Leonie

  • Broken Links not fixed after being changed-HELP PLEASE!

I am trying to fix a website I created for a friend. I created it in Dreamweaver CS6 on a Mac. Everything was working on the website, the pitures were showing up and now 2 of the pages arent working. On both pages the spry bar is not working and some of the pictures will not show up. I have went to find broken links and redirected it to the correct file but it is not changing anything. I am not sure how to fix this problem, if anyone has any advice that would be great!! The website is www.serenityatthebeach.com.

That line read correctly when I looked at it on the broken page colorcutstyle. I copied the code from the page if that would help. I hope this helps.

  • What do I do to fix a "broken link" in iDVD?

What do I do to fix a "broken link" in iDVD?

I am having this problem, too, but only with movies made prior to 2012.  When I attempt to navigate to and select the audio and or the video file it gives me a path (users/myname/desktop/moviename.iMovieProject/Shared Movies/Video) find file takes me to my hard drive.  At that point, I go into Users, find thhouse with my name (the only user), go to desktop and cannot find moviename.iMovieProject.  If I just try to find the file by clicking find file it searches and the wheel never stops.
I know that iDVD is no longer supported, but I have a feeling that everything is still here, I just cannot locate the necessary parts....

  • Broken link ;no folder to fix it;

I am using the trail version of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. I am
just learning use it. I had two projects to complete. One is
working perfectly. The other one isn't. I set up my home page and 3
other pages. On one of my pages, I will not return to Home. I ran
Design Check on it. It displays that I have a broken link. In the
area where it should display the folder so you can fix it, it
displays files. I have completely redid this page too many times to
count. I even redid the site from scratch. I still get this. I
didn't set up this page any differently than any other as to
returning to the Home page. Does anyone have any ideas how to
correct this? I do not know what to do.

  • The broken link error

    Hi,
Please help me with this broken link error in Office Excel 2010. Thank you.
The problem is: a broken link cannot be removed from the file. The link was used in data validation, which refers to a list of values. After the path was corrected, it still shows there’s a broken link. Here are the details:
    I have 4 files named “000TVA_Test – 3”, “000TVA_Test – 4”, “000TVA_Test – 5”, and “000TVA_Test – 6”. The posterior files were developed based on the previous files.
In Test-3, sheet “Template “, cell “L4”, “O4”, “R4”… were built as dropdown list using data validation. The list source is in the “Library” worksheet. There’s no problem so far.
Test-4 was firstly copied from Test-3. In this file I renamed the worksheet from “Library” to “Setting” and the link was broken from here. I can also fix the broken link in this file. (While I didn’t realize there was a broken link.)
In Test-5 I fixed the path, but every time when opening the file, the broken link still shows.
In Test-6 I’ve removed the data validations. The broken link is still there.
I tried to find solutions online. I tried common methods, cannot find anything in the files is still using links. I also tried the “findlink.xla” add-in, but it only worked for Test-4, and couldn’t find the link in other files.
    Please help. Thank you!

    Hi,
Based on my tested the files downloaded, I found that Test-5 & Test-6 included the "A defined name that refers to an external workbook", Test-4 had not. (Please click Formula Tab>Name Manage, you'll see them.)
However, the Break Links command cannot break the following types of links:
A defined name that refers to an external workbook
A ListBox control with an input range that refers to an external workbook.
A DropDown control with an input range that refers to an external workbook.

    Thus, we'd better try the workaround: re-build the Test-5 & Test 6.
