Fixing hp pavillion fan

I think I may have broken my fan while blowing condensed air into it to clean up some dust.  Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this or replacei t?

  • How do I fix my case fans??

I have two 80 mm case fans (12v). I was wondering what the allignment of the fans should be. Should These fans blow air INTO the case or should they SUCK OUT the air from the case. I currently use a 350 Watt CODEGEN PSU with a single fan which sucks air INTO the PSU and hence INTO the case. Problem with sucking air into the case is that a lot of dust gets into the cabinet. On the other hand, sucking air out of the case leaves lesser air for the CPU and NB fans to effictively cool the CPU and NB. Any sugestions??
I plan to overclock, but not right now. The temperatures at no load are as follows:
With Side Pannels Fixed -  CPU=51 Degrees Cel   System=44 Degrees Cel
Without Side Pannels (Open Case) -  CPU=43 Degrees Cel   System=41 Degrees Cel
    Is my comp overheating?

    Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
    Pioneer 16x DVD ROM / Sony 52x CD-RW

    Codegen 350Watt SMPS

As mentioned in the other of your thread, you PSU is weak currently, so maybe when you get another PSU, it should be intaking air to the PSU and exhuast out from the rear.
Just always remember the rule of "Hot air rises and cool air falls" and you'll most probably know where the fans are to be placed. Next, you should always try to keep the same number of intake fans and exhaust fans to keep a good capacity of airflow within the chassis.

  • How I fixed my T61 fan at no cost

Anyone who owned a T6x for more than a couple of years might have noticed that the CPU fan becomes increasingly noisy with time, no matter how well the machine is kept.
So my fan sounded like something was stuck inside. I ordered a new fan, but its delivery was delayed and I was so annoyed by the noise that I took the old fan apart. Believe it or not, I fixed it with three drops of bike oil. Now it is perfectly silent: no added noises other than that of the air flowing. Few weeks have passed and so far so good.
This is what I did in detail:
extract the old heatsink/fan assembly (no need to take out the motherboard, just remove the palmrest, the keyboard and the upper frame)
drop 2 or 3 drops of bike oil inside the fan motor (no need to dismantle the fan/heatsink assembly)
blow air on it and make the fan spin, then clean the oil that spills (I cleaned with a soft brush); do it again and again until no oil comes out
    carefully clean the heatsink
apply some good thermal paste to the heatsink
    put everything back together
    enjoy the silence!
Please post on this thread your success&failure stories on this procedure.
Do this at your own risk: I take no resposibility for whatever damage your laptop may incur to.

I don't understand where you left the oils drops. My fan seems to be inside a black plastic cover ..

  • Definitive fix for revving fans/freeze?

Is there a definitive fix for the revving fan & freeze issues in the early edition G5s (dual 2Ghz)? Also, does the above mention problem have any relation to the defective video cards in the same machines? -- no video signal on cold starts. card needs to be warmed w/ a hairdryer before startup!
    15' 125Ghz pBook / Dual 2Ghz G5 / mini

    Hi
Dont know if this will help you but I had a problem of high revving noisy fans, then it wouldn't power up. I sent it away and the said it was due to a little white strip fixed on the bottom end of the cover, which apparently effects the air flow. It was starting to curl up, it was straightened out and the fans are now very very quiet and I have had no bother since, including powering up

  • Fix for Blasting Fans with 10.4.4 yet??

    Hello everybody,
It's been a while since I've checked back at these forums, but I couldn't find a solution going over some posts today. My fans have been CRAZY since 10.4.3, and 10.4.4 didn't help one bit. They're fine when in Reduced settings, which is really lame, because i bought the G5 for its power. Highest has no crazy fans, but has the annoying chirps. Automatic was completely fine until 10.4.3, and I want to be able to use it again. So has anybody found a solution to this yet? (From Apple or personal solution). Also the fans seem to go most crazy with Safari or Firefox use.
    Thanks,
    -Burak

Oh geez, here I am back on the boards again. Guess I never should have installed Tiger yesterday on the G5 and did the 10.4.5 combo to catch up. Had been PERFECTLY happy with 10.3.9 on it. No fan revs, very low CPU loads, sleeps when it should, yadda, yadda. Tiger sat on the shelf from first day of issue until yesterday. Finally decided a mid version update on 10.4 should have things resolved. Oh well, the fans rev'ing again are a BIG disappointment Apple!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with this G5 dually and it performed out-of-the-box perfect since Oct. '03 on each of the last versions of Panther and Jaguar.
So I'm here to verify, indeed Apple has a software problem with the Fans rev'ing on my G5. And ALL the fan rev'ing problems in the past...i.e. Jaguar and Panther both....were resolved in software revision updates at some point in time without changing a single thing on this Mac, not software, hardware or firmware.
C'mon Apple, I DON'T want to wait until 10.4.9 to get this irratic, unpredictable, annoying, unjustified fan rev'ing problem fixed.

  • Attention N200 Owners, I found a fix for the fan

In an attempt to improve battery life, I made an important discovery. Apparently lenovo is using the desktop CPU P States instead of the mobile ones. With my T7200 running at 2GHz, this means it's using 1.35V instead of the 1.225V it's supposed to be. This mistake on lenovo's part means increased heat output and a fan that has no idea how fast to run. Here's how to fix it:
    1. Download and Install RightMark CPU Clock Utility. http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml
    2. Open the utility and select "Advanced CPU Settings" in the pane on the left side.
    3. Towards the bottom under "Intel Core 2 Family Advanced Features", change the "CPU type selection" setting from desktop to mobile.
In  order to make this change stick, you have to make the RightMark CPU Clock Utility run at startup.
    1. Click on settings in the pane on the left side.
    2. Check the box next to "Run at Startup"
    3. Select "via Startup Folder" in the pull down box.
    4. You may also want to check the "Start Minimized to Tray" box above, or the main window will open every time you start the computer.
Untill lenovo does something about this problem, this is all you can do. However, you will see an improvement in battery life and a reduction in noise, along with a fan that does not have ADD.

    @iamdh
He doesn´t change the voltage of the CPU fan which could indeed be a little risky. He changes the voltage of the CPU which is according to CPU-Z by default (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) a little higher than the default voltage of the CPU.
I also noticed this before and did exactly the same with my 3000 N200. The difference is just that my N200 has a T5250 CPU but as it seems the same overvoltage problem. With his workaround the heat and powerconsumption is especially under high load reduced, resulting in a higher runtime.
On the other hand this has hardly any effect on the fan spining up an down when the CPU is idle.
    Sorry, small addition:
I used another way to get the "right" voltages for my CPU. When I open RMClock my CPU already is marked as an mobile CPU, so this is not the problem in my case. But you can also change voltages for the different Pstates in RMClock manually. And this is what I did to get the default voltages for my CPU. Interested ones can find the necessary information here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2637648 (They describe how to undervolt a CPU but as a start it is just enough to supply the CPU with the default voltage instead of the "higher than above" voltage supplied by for example my 3000 N200)
Just for information: The default Voltage of my T5250 CPU is 0.95 Volt at idle and 1.25 at load. According to CPU-Z my CPU gets 1.063 Volt at idle and 1.363 Volt at load.

  • Any fix for MacPro Fan problem caused by the last firmware update?

    Hi,
My macPro's fans have been going balistic on restart from sleep mode ever since I loaded that last firmware update that was supposed to address the MacPro fan control.
Any word on a fix... Is this overspeed damaging my hardware?

It is a bug in the firmware update because my MacPro never acted this way before the update was loaded...
Many have reported the problem... and some have not experienced it... Go figure.
Logic says this is not a bug. A bug with the firmware update would be universally felt, no exceptions. Firmware doesn't change its format out of the blue when it chooses to. What it does say is there are some Mac Pros that for whatever reason are not getting sufficient cooling in their position on the desk/floor, or the climate they are being used in. Since Apple does not publish the temperature limits internally for its machine, the best thing is to report this problem to AppleCare, even if the hardware test comes out negative.

  • HP pavillion fan issues?

NOTE: this is the second time i've made this, it over-heated the first time I made it; reaching 90 degrees, that insane! I was only writing words!?
    hi,
I have an HP pavillion dv6 laptop; and for the past month or two I have been having some major issues.
The first issue is that I seems to of got less powerfull, and not doing it's job properly because my laptop can over-heat, and power-offf for doing something as simple as basic internet browsing. This over-heating is a MAJOR problem because it happens without notice, and I can loose anything I could be doing when it over-heating, including work, or photoshop files.
The other, and more important issue (for me) is that it is CONSTANTLY whirring ridiculously loudly; to the point I cannot bring it into school because it will irritate the class. I cannot explain in these words how loud that fan is. Simply leaving it stationary on the desktop, I can hear the fan from across the hallway in the bathroom, and I can hear it faintly from down-stairs. My mic picks up this sound, so It is ruining my experiences on programs such as Skype.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I have already bought an external fan that goes into the USB, but even that can't control this crazy fan. This thing is probably meting my laptops insides!

You may want to repost in the Notebook forum -but here are some thoughts.
if the fan is running loud that means it is trying to run faster to cool things down.
What could be causing it to want to cool things down? Hot components.
Hot components could be caused by dust (thats always the first thing I check)
still running hot? could be the thermal paste or absense of it on the processor so it isn't transfering the heat to the heat sink...
or some other components that are not being cooled enough by the system because they are out of contact with the cooling solution.
repost to notebooks and see what they think.
    good luck

  • Finally ready to fix my cpu fan noise - can someone PM?

So I have a 17" rev a imac (1.8 ghz) - now that my 3 year Apple Care plan is up (a new power supply, 2 new logic boards, and a new hard drive later) - I am ready to do anything to fix the model airplane fan noise/whine coming from the CPU fan. I know when the issue has at the forefront a couple of years ago, there was a housing modification that seemed to work for a lot of people, but I haven't been able to find it again. Could someone PM me with info about it if you know of it?
    Thanks!

  • 10.5.6 fixed MacBook fan problem

FYI - my MacBook (2ghz c2d, ~ 2 years old) has been running its fan at pretty near top speed regardless of its activity for several months, for no reason I was able to determine or fix. Installation of the 10.5.6 combo update fixed the problem, fan now runs silently until heat sink temperatures go above 60°C.

  • Pavillion DV6-7014 corrupting hard drives?

I'm trying to fix a Pavillion DV6-7014 laptop for a friend, and I'm having some issues.
The laptop keeps corrupting files on the hard drive, even after replacing the drive with a new one.
Heat is at times an issue, with the laptop getting so hot that it is painful to touch. cleaning the air vents and adjusting the power/fan settings help some, but don't fully resolve the issue. It has gotten so hot that it's even warped/damaged some of the surfaces it sits on when overheating (is this laptop a safety issue?)
The laptop is only 1 year and 8 months old. I don't know if the heat is causing the hard drives to fail, or if the heat has damaged the motherboard/sata controller, or if there is a power issue, etc.
What are my options for repairing this computer? It seems like the whole board might need to be replaced. Is there really only a 1 year warranty on this $1200 computer?

Yes it is a safety issue...certainly no longer a "laptop". I would say at this point the next course of action is to open it up and reseat the cooling fan/heatsink with new thermal compound. Post back if you want specific instructions. Does the fan spin and seem to work?

  • Cooling Fan issue/Questions

Hello there I will try and explain this whole story as best as I can. First off, I know my way around computers, I am going to school for them. Asking for help is a last stretch for me... but I need to learn when to ask for help inorder to learn from my mistakes. This laptop is a HP Pavillion DV7. List of replacement parts for this laptop can be found here.I have done as much research as I can on the issue.  So let me explain my situation. As a gamer, I know I stress out my laptop a lot. at 2.2ghz, it doesnt do much, but its 8mb L3 cache allows me to play quite a lot, not to mention what I gather from sources, my processor itself determines it should turboboost itself to 3.1ghz when it is under a heavy load. ( If this information is not true, then I will have to look into those sources again ) I have to admit, I do leave my computer on. I administrate gameservers and Teamspeak servers quite often, and gain access to the computers using the internet from my house to help fix the problems. I know I am not suppose to, but I leave it on so that I have the convience of looking into issues first hand and help the community owners as quickly as possible. I feel this is why I am having the issue I am. On Monday morning, a regular morning to wake up, first thing I do is check computer for any messages. The top left hand side of the computer is hot. Normal, since this is where the processor is in the laptop. The bottom part however never truely is. It got slightly warm, enough for me to take a notice. I turned computer off to let it rest so no problems had occured. a nice 30-45 minute rest. Laptop became room tempature at touch so I proceeded to turn it on. Upon doing so, I got a message  The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now.System Fan (90b) I restarted computer, got same message. Proceeded to turn off laptop, then made sure AC power cord and adapter were working fine and plugged in. ( My Adapter block is normally hot, I think this is due to me leaving laptop plugged in all the time and never turning it off.) I restart once more, then head into BIOS. I check that the System Configurations are correct, Fan is automatically turned on, and I check BIOS logs for start up. All came up clear except the past 3 times. They stated part 090-B came up an error. This surely was the fan not being recognizes, as the start up told me. I go searching in the internet for replacement fan. This is the fan I have pruchased [ Replacement Fan ] and the thermal paste I purchased with it [ Thermal Paste ]. I rechecked with friends who work in computer stores for a living and they told me this was the correct part. So I decided I would wait. Today, I was told of an issue with the server, I log in to check the problem, get the error message for the fan. No biggie. I fix the issue within 5 minutes. My laptop was not on long enough to get hot. I get a message for an update today. I figured, sure; not a huge process needer, It will be fine. I let it update, and restart because I know it will need to finish applying them on restart. This time... the fan error did not display. I let the update patch in all 36,000 files. I restart after. I check the BIOS logs, It said no errors. I restart another 2 times to make sure I am not missing the message. There is none.  Whether or not my idea is wrong, I will still replace the cooling fan. My question is... Since the BIOS is responsible for how the computer starts, could the update possibly be the reason the error message no longer occurs? with 36,000 files patched, they could have easily been a driver fix and or a BIOS patch. They also could have been a simple security fix, but I have no way or knowing. I know it was 14 updates, and 36,000 files patched.  Could this at all have effected the error I was getting? Again, whether or not it could be the solution, I wil lstill replace the fan.  I ask for future reference of this knowledge. Could this be a simple mistake in the matter? Should I take into consideration of the update as a fix for the fan? Did it matter at all? EDIT  It seems though the error is gone, my processor still seems to be getting hot. This image shhows no sign of the fan working http://i.imgur.com/N1UgmHb.png

Still waiting for someone with more experience then me to explain to me the situation...

If the hard drive is making some noise, that is not a
good sign. It might mean that your hard drive is
about to have a hardware failure. I would make sure
to backup your important files to another hard drive
or to CDs. If you cannot get the hard drive replaced,
I suppose you could start using an external FireWire
hard drive. Of course, that may make your iBook much
    less portable.
How old is your iBook? Which model do you have? (What
is the processor speed? You can check in "About This
    Mac" in the Apple menu.)

My ibook is dual USB G3 500mhz, i bought it recently in a mint physical condition.
i have already ordered a 60gb HD with Tiger on it.
i have external USB hard drives .... i can backup there.
i am new to Mac... so i want to learn about Mac on this ibook and then i will sell it and buy a new one.
i am upgrading this ibook with tiger, 60gb HD, Ram = 640 and combo drive.
i was able to use D-link USB DWL-G122 adapter to connect to my wifi network
but later i could not... cuz when i install USB driver from Raltink web site..... after downloading and installing
i am getting error that mounting has failed .
what does this mean and how can i fix it.
is it possible that i back up everything including OS on external USB HD, Erase everything from HD in ibook and reinstall backup .... may be old files of previous user are conflicting.
Again Questio is >> that can i reinstall OS from Backup cuz i dont have any OS CD.
if it is possible, what is the procedure of backup , erasing HD and then reinstallin
    thanks for ur expertise help.
