Fixing/repair a background in elements 11

How do I blur a background, or fix the background if it has a line in it?

You don't want to blur. Hopefully you still have the original without the frame, as that would make it easier to correct this.
Try the following:
Use then eyedropper tool to sample the brown background. This will be the foreground color - see the color chip.
Use the magnetic lasso tool to outline the entire upper background including the defective area. Once the selection is complete you will see "marching ants". This indicates that you have an active selection
Go to Edit>fill selection & use the foreground color.
Press CTRL+D
At this stage apply the frame

  • What is the easiest way to take out white background in elements 12?

what is the easiest way to take out white background in elements 12?

    Try this:
Open the program and go to Expert tab
Double click the background layer to convert it to a regular layer
Get the magic wand tool out of the toolbox. On the tool's option bar, check "contiguous" or leave it unchecked depending on the presentation of the white background. Start with tolerance setting 32; you may have to adjust it down - - depends on picture
Left click on a white area and hit delete on keyboard
Press CTRL+D to get rid of the marching ants
If you encounter a problem, post a representative picture here for targeted guidance. You can do that via the camera icon in the reply box, but not in an e-mail reply.

  • New bug in IE11 -- scrolling position:fixed + background-image elements jitters badly.

visit the following page in IE10 and IE11, and use your mouse wheel to scroll the page:
    http://www.oussamaharb.com/
In IE <= 10, Safari, Chrome, and FireFox, the header section of that page stays put when scrolling.  However, only in IE11, when you scroll the page the the header jumps around and jitters.  Essentially IE11 will do this on any div with a fixed
    background image.
Note the jitter does not happen if you grab the scrollbar with the cursor and move it up and down (which people rarely do).  Some sort of bug when using mouse wheel has been introduced in IE11.

You are too late to see.  He removed
background-attachment:fixed with IE11.  His link originally showed the stuttering.  It looked too unsatisfactory.
You can still see his handsome design with FireFox where it continues to work well.  (And also good with Chrome, Opera, Safari too).  See how the picture on top stays fixed when you scroll the page?  Not with IE anymore.  With IE
that great effect is removed, sacrificed to cure the ugly wart.  The picture now just scrolls upward with the page to avoid the IE11 bug.  Too bad.
Since your first reply here 7 months ago.  Have you any special MVP insider-info yet how to make this great CSS3 port-hole feature scroll smoothly with IE11?  Or possibly, you have encouraging news that it will become corrected in IE12?  Your
name is IECustomizer MVP.  It sounds like you will know.
Here are more stutter examples for you to examine.  You may click the background to toggle several different ways to see the affliction during scroll.  Please post back and tell your observation that you can see this stutter.
    https://googledrive.com/host/0B8BLd2qPPV7XOGl1Sjk3c29uVlU
Possibly somebody still hasn't yet noticed in bryanangler's example ("OP"), IE11 needs to be maximized (or large) to observe the problem.  At least,
somebody has not acknowledged.  Bryanangler's page is Responsive Web Design (RWD).  The menu on top is present when space permits.  That's when the
background-attachment:fixed applies and makes the horrid stutter.

  • Possible 1.3 Leopard fix for HP, but wierd Elements behavior

Please forgive me for copying what i typed on another forum, but it is a long process to type over again.
ok, here's hoping i dont jinx my latest luck by sharing this method before messing around with it some more. I have an HP 9800 so, of course, your milage may vary based on printer type. Here are several steps that i did in attempting to fix the issue of lightroom printing useing color profiles, I dont know which one fixed it. The first thing i didn was repair disk permissions, which i hadnt done since installing leopard and upgrading to lightroom 1.3. Then i unplugged the printer and went into the printers/fax part of system preferences and removed the printer from the box on the left. Then i right-clicked on it and chose reset print settings or something to that effect. Then I went to the library folder and erased all of the pre-installed printer drivers (which took a while, there are a ton of them that i will never use). Then i plugged the printer back in and ran software update. It found the current HP drivers for my printer. I did all that last night before bed. This afternoon I tried printing from lightroom, and while i had to redo my presets for the printing, I was able to print, using application managed colors, and get an accurate print that seems to be honoring the print profiles.
After that i tried printing in elements with profiles, which hadnt worked for me before either:
As an update, I just tried printing with Elements 4. Previously, while lightroom had a very yellowed out somewhat desaturated look when printing with profiles, Elements had a magenta, orangey cast. After following the steps above, the lightroom prints now look accurate, but elements now has the yellowy desaturated cast that lightroom previously had. This is good and bad as I use lightroom for bulk printing but elements for more accurate specialty prints. Must be something with the new driver pipeline that others have mentioned with leopard, and how the old drivers and the new drivers interact with that and each other, at least that would be my guess.
Anyone know why this fixed lightroom for me, and why elements printing wanst working since upgrading to leopard and still isnt? Thanks

go to the hard drive, the folders before you go into your user folder. Go to library, find the folder for printers and delete everything in it. I know hp is using software updater for drivers, dont know about epson. I then just plugged the printer in, ran software update, and got those drivers.

  • How do you make the layer mode take effect with no background in Elements?

I have a picture of water splashing over a black background (like this:
although this isn't the exact one). By turning the blending mode to "screen", I get the effect I want: it basically looks like the water is splashing over my image. The thing is, I need to save it as a .png file with part of the water "dripping" off the edge of my photo onto a transparent background (background must be transparent). The problem I have is as soon as the image hits the transparent background, the black comes back.
I need a way to either remove all the black from the photo or, more ideally, find a way to make the image I see in "normal" blending mode the same as the image I see in "screen" mode. Any ideas? (I have Photoshop Elements 7.0, btw)
    Thanks!

I don't understand how you're using "screen" blending mode on a single image, but is this the effect you're trying to get (I used a blue colour to show the transparent area at the bottom of the image):
I used the free KillWhite plug-in (http://mikes3d.com/extra/scripting-plugins/killwhite/) with your image:
Converted the image to RGB.  (Image...Mode...RGB Color)
    Duplicated the background layer (Ctrl+J).
Inverted the colours on that duplicated layer (Ctrl+I), so that the black background becomes white.
Used KillWhite to...well...kill the white on that layer.
    Inverted the colours again.
Used Enhance...Lighting...Brightness/Contrast as well as Levels to darken the water splash.
Added my flower image below the water splash layer and raised the bottom edge of the flower image to leave a transparent area.
My layers wound up looking like this:

  • Any fix for why my photoshop elements 12 will not launch?

Hi - had to get new computer after old one died... reinstalled (twice) Photoshop Elements 12 and now it will not launch.  When I click on icon, the first screen open allowing me to select between the Organizer and Editor.  When I click on Editor, nothing happens... never launches.  Seems this has happened to others, anyone know how to fix?
    Thanks!!

The advice here - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1452533?tstart=0 - should allow the software to restart so that you can activate it.

  • How do I change background in Elements 12

I've used Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 for years then had to get a new computer and the old 2.0 won't work on it. In the 2.0 it was EASY to change backgrounds in photos. I haven't been able to figure out how to do that with the layers in Elements 12 and it's driving me crazy. Is there and easier way, like with the 2.0 that you just erase the background you don't want then open the background photo you do want and it just puts itself right behind it. Thank you.

Use one of the selection tools to select the foreground.
Place the foreground on a separate layer (CTRL+J)
Place a blank layer between the background layer and the layer with the foreground, then fill it with color, patterns, or anything that you want.

  • How do I remove an identical background / common element from a series of layers/images.

    Hello and good day,
I have found dozens of articles on how to remove the uncommon items from a series of near identical photos, for instance removing tourists from a series of shots using Scripts -> Statistics...
What I am trying to do is the exact opposite of this.
I would like to compare a series of frames, and remove all common elements from them; leaving only differences.  I figured I would be able to use the statistics script to get the common background, then somehow compare it to each frame and remove the common background.  Basically doing a reverse green screen when I am removing the background instead of adding it.
I have Adobe Master Collection CS6.
    Regards,
    Jeffrey Taylor

That sounds like something AstroPhotographers might use.  We have an expert here, but I believe he is kind of busy right now, but he might happen along.
Otherwise, I don't know how to do a reverse Median effect.  You can do it with two layers by aligning and setting the top layer blend mode to Difference, but identical features go black.  You'd have to make a luminosity mask from that frame and apply it to a layer mask to leave the people after returning the layer mode to normal.    But I can't think how to do it with a lot of frames together.

  • Remove background with elements 11

I have a photograph with a person on it and would like to remove the background so I can cut the person out and place on a white background. I have tried the erasrue tool but when I get too close to the edge it is not differentiating between the person and the background - the colours are not hugely different. I have tried different ways of doing it with discontinuous option. on demos, it points to the sampling option but that doesn't seem to be available as an option. I have also tried using the selection tool but it is difficult/impossible for me to accurately capture the body of the person only as it traces elements of the door behind the person. I am hoping for an option which does not take a long time but is also precise as I have a few shots like this to do.

    team barker,
I used the magnetic lasso tool to select this young lady. On the tool's option bar, I set feather=1px, width=3px, contrast= 3%, frequency=57. Note that when you use this tool, you click and release the mouse button, and work your way arouind from the starting point so as to end up with a complete selection. Once this is accomplished, you should see "marching ants." You can lay down an additional anchor point at any time with a left mouse click, and go back with the delete key on the keyboard.
    Open file
Go to enhance menu>adjust lighting>levels and move the right slider a little to the left, and the left slider a little towards the right
Use the magnetic lasso tool to select the young lady, then place her on a separate layer (CTRL+J).
Open a blank layer below the layer created in step #3, and fill with white
I took the liberty to try something else -- blurred the background.

  • Warrior says it's fixed, repaired permissions, still won't boot

    In chronological order:
Last weekend - updated several pieces of software, and did all apple updates. I think it was already at .11, but I'm not quite sure. Other than Daylite and Office for Mac 04, there are no other pieces of non-Apple software.
Tuesday - Daylite crashes. Salesperson powers off the mini instead of force quitting. Mini will no longer boot.
    Attempted fixes:
Booted from install disc, ran disk utility first aid which located 2 or 3 folder and file errors, which it could not fix.
Purchased DiskWarrior, which ran fine, found the errors, and repaired them. Used DW to check files and hardware, both of which were reported to be fine. Ran fragmentation check, which showed very low levels of fragmentation.
Still wouldn't boot from the hard drive.
Booted from install disc again. Ran first aid again, which now showed drive as OK, and reported no errors. Then I checked permissions. Errors were found, and first aid successfully repaired them.
However, it still won't boot from the HD. It gets stuck at the spinning gear.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what I should do next, short of reformatting and reinstalling?
    Thanks,
    Ross

Certain system files required for startup are either damaged or missing. You will have to reinstall OS X. You should be able to do so as follows without erasing the hard drive:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

I have a target schema that has "any" element as below:

I would think if you intanciate the XMLReference and use IIDXMLElement GetChildCount / GetNthChild would do what you are looking for.

  • How to fix a slow mouse in Elements 13 editor

I purchased Elements 13 as my new camera was not supported by Elements 11 which I was currently using. The organiser works fine and I Like the new interface but when trying to use the image editor the mouse has terrible lag. Its almost impossible to select anything in the menu.
Elements 11 works fine and I can happily merge and align several RAW files without problems and the efficiency scale never drops bellow 100. I have an I5 machine with 8Gb of ram and windows 8.1. I assume the problem lies with Elements 13 as no other software is effected and the machine is really quick. I have found several other comments about the same problem but no solutions. Any idea's?

You might try the Elements forum for more specific advice.  This forum is for Photoshop.
In Photoshop you just make a new document (square, 200 - 300 pixels), draw your star (shape tool has a star in it), fill it with black, then go to Define Brush Preset.  If elements can do it I'd guess it's pretty similar.
