Fixing the color management in the print module.

Some printers are supported some not. Some profiles
will show on the manage color list, most not. Photoshop
has a sRGB printer profile, could one be made available
for Lightroom? I have read a lot of post concerning
poor print colors from Lightroom, at the very least Lightroom
should allow any printer to manage the color.
Thank You
Tom

I have read a lot of post concerning poor print colors from Lightroom, at the very least Lightroom should allow any printer to manage the color.
I agree, but it doesn't let the Canon S9000 or HP D7460, it will not let these printers manage the color, the colors come out muddy looking when I manage by printer. I assume these two printers do not have paper profiles because nothing shows in the profile list. I'm not an expert on printing but I can get decent prints out of any other software I use except from Lightroom. As for the sRGB it would be better then nothing and that is what I have now. I have tried using other profiles with limited success.
I have given up trying to print from Lightroom, to bad because all the other modules work fine.

It may be a little different with the 9000 as it is several models back by now.  But what I explained should be close.

  • Trouble creating personal url and disabling color management in the printer preference dialog

I just purchased a new Canon Pro 9000 MKII which came with a new copy of Photoshop Elements 8. I registered the software and created a username and password successfully, but I am unable to created a personal URL for starting an online gallery. I keep getting error messages everytime I try. One message is that name is taken and the other simply says there is an error.
Second problem is when I try to print from Edit in Photoshop Elements 8 there is a message that states: " did you remember to disable color management in the printer preference dialog?" It is unclear to me how this can be done.
Any help with these two issues would be greatly appreciated
    Thank  you.

Log in to the web page and try some different characters e.g.
    green_11david_Y1973.photoshop.com
In the print dialog you need to click More Options and choose printer manages color if you want to use your printer/paper profile.

  • HP B9180 - Turn off color management in the printer driver.

I see others have questions in this area and mine is only a slight variation.
When selecting the ICC profile there is an option for Printer managed and then below that all my normal profiles are selected of which I select whichever is appropriate.
I select more options and select 'Perceptual' - does anybody have any views on this?
I keep black point on and increase brightness slightly - it's a judgement.
I click print and I get an additional Printer menu - possibly HP unique.
In this one of the options is Color Matching.
Grayed out beneath this are two radio buttons - one for Colorsync (on) and one for Vendor Matching (off). As they are grayed I cannot effect this.
It would appear that color management by the printer driver is turned off and I do appear to have more and better control of my prints than before but if anyone has more information I would be pleased to hear it.

  • Disableing the printer color management in the printer settings box

    Hello
I am printing on a Epsonstylus r1800 printer using windows 8..  Printer has new drivers v6.55 The Adobe print setup reminds me to disable the printer color management in the print settings box. I can't find where to do this in the print settings box. Resulting in color that is way off. Any thoughts?

Must be done in the printer driver.
This is an example for the Epson 3880
First click on Print settings and in the dialog that opens look for Color Adjustment but that differs with the printer model...

  • Paper profiles in the color management dialog

Hello:I am new to the LR 2 print module I have used CS4. I find that the color management dialogue under
"other" does not contain all the color and BW paper profiles that are downloaded into the color folder in Widows. I use Vista 64  but I have not checked any of the checkboxes in the color management dialog thereby knowingly excluding any profiles. How do I get all my profiles into color mangement in LR 2?

Check that the profiles are installed in the correct location as shown in the Choose Profiles dialog box which opens from LR. On 32 bit OS this is windows/system32/spool/drivers/color...this may be different on 64 bit OS. LR will only recognise RGB profiles so if you have CYMK profile these will not show up.Also check the box Include Display Profiles as sometimes paper profiles show up as display profiles for some reason.

  • CS6: Can't switch off color management in the printerdriver when photoshop manages colors

So this is weird: I'm using CS6 Extended and Lightroom 5 on a Windows 7 Pro machine, printing to an old Canon Pixma Ip5200R. When i print from Lightroom, i am using a special printer profile for the pixma and my photopaper, so color management is switched off in the printer driver. The photos print fine.
Now when i print the same photo from CS6, it has a magenta color cast, so clearly something is wrong with the color management. Even though i am using the same printer, the same paper, the same printer profile and  - of course! - had set photoshop to manage the colors, and switched color managent off in the printer driver. The magenta cast could be an indication that the photo is double colormanaged.
It took my quite a while to find out what happens, and this is really weird: When i re-checked the printer driver settings, i noticed that the color management settings did not stick. The canon printer driver offers the options "driver matching" "windows ICM" "none", e.g. having color management done by the printer driver or windows, or switch color management  off. So when i go to the PS print settings and set it to "photoshop manages colors", add the correct printer profile, i have to check the settings in the printer driver and make sure that color management is set to "none". I set it to "none" and click OK. Now everything should be configured correctly. But it's not - because when i re-check the print driver settings, i see color management is set to "diver matching". I can go to the print driver settings again and agian, but whenever i check, color management is set to "driver matching". This setting simply does not stick. No wonder i get a mangenta cast on my prints, the colors are doublemanaged by photoshop AND my printer driver.
Now, this is getting weirder: Only the color management settings don't stick. I can change other settings like print quality and the stick.
But - how do i get rid of this? The culprit seems to be photoshop, not the printer driver. If i print from lightroom, i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver and they stick. When i set the photoshop print dialogue to "printer manages colors" i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver - and they stick! So this looks as if photoshop stops me intentionally from using the correct printer driver settings, that is from switching off the printer drivers color management if it is set to manage colors.
I have already resetted my personal photoshop preferences, but this changed nothing. What am i missing? What is going wrong? Your help is very appreciated.

Hi all, Just to let you know that I finally solved my problem myself.
Essentially what had occurred was that I had updated my Epson driver for my printer , but it hadn't installed, despite informing me that it had! To cut a long story short when I checked in System preferences the older driver for Leopard O/S was still the current driver. I proceeded to ask Epson support for assistance, bu despite their efforts I could not immediately resolve the problem. They were directing me to my Utilities program to remove all traces of my current driver from Printer Utility which did not exist. When I queried this they stated it was not always visible and I should proceed to the next step then install the new driver. Problem was they required me to access this invisible utility in order to complete this process, and yes before you ask I had informed them I was using an Intel Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 O/S. Finally I ignored their advice and took the following steps:
    1. I opened System Preferences and double clicked the Printer & Fax icon.
    2. I highlighted my Epson R2400 Pinter and removed it by clicking the minus sign at the bottom of the Printers window.
    3. Next I did a search and deleted any old drivers for my R2400 that were on my system with the exception of the new Driver.
    4. I restarted my Mac Pro.
    5. I reinstalled my new printer driver which I had previously downloaded from Epson Support.
    6. I restarted my Mac Pro and found that the new driver had installed correctly and full functionality had been returned to the Print Features Dialogue box i.e I could now turn of color management and access advanced features to set the quality of printing using the full spec of the R2400.
Hope this post will be helpful to others if they have a similar problem

  • Possibility to assign a color profile in the color management tab for more video formats

Presently, in After Effects CS5, in the color management tab of the "Interpret Footage" dialog box the possibility to assign a color profile to footage is grayed out for many video formats.
Formats that allow to assign a color profile include Quicktime/JPEG2000, Quicktime/Motion JPEG A, Quicktime/Motion JPEG B, Quicktime/MPEG-4, Quicktime/Animation as well as various image sequences, like tiff-sequences. (Motion JPEG A,B and Quicktime/MPEG-4 are not very helpful in this context because they have a small color shift when reimported to After Effects.)
Formats that do not allow to assign a color profile include Quicktime/PhotoJPEG, Quicktime/H264, H264 main concept, DVCPRO HD 1080p30, F4V. (Here, H264 main concept has anyway the disadvantage that it has a color shift when reimported into After Effects.)
In After Effects CS4 it was possible to assign a color profile to Quicktime/H264, Quicktime/PhotoJPEG, DVCPRO HD 1080p30, but in CS5 this is no longer possible.
Those video formats that do not allow to assign a color profile automatically are interpreted as having the color profile HDTV (Rec. 709) Y'CbCr in case that the videos have 1920x1080 format; similar applies to PAL formats which get SDTV (Rec. 709) Y'CbCr color profile.
(I did not find anything of this automatic assignment to HDTV or SDTV color profile in the "interpretation rules.txt" file, therefore it must be written into the programme itself.)
With growing popularity of wide gamut monitors it becomes necessary to produce footage and other videos that have a color profile different from HDTV or sRGB. When such footage is reimported to After Effects it has the wrong color and the only workarounds are either to use (in After Effects) the effect "Color profile converter" which necessitates extra render time or to use somewhat unpopular formats, like JPEG2000 that has very large filesize.
Presently many footage is produced in Quicktime/PhotoJPEG and therefore it would be very desirable to allow to assign a color profile to such footage in the color management tab of the "Interpret Footage" dialog box.
Does anyone know why in AE CS5 the video formats Quicktime/PhotoJPEG and Quicktime/H264 do not allow to have an arbitrary color profile assigned (although it was possible in CS4), is it a bug, or does it have a deeper reason.
In this context I have a related question, often I read that Quicktime videos have a gamma tag. Does this mean that part of the color profile (the gamma value) is actually embedded/remembered, like you have it for images where the gamma is part the embedded color profile.
I use AE CS5 on Mac Pro 2009 with OS 10.6.7.
    Thanks,
    Volker

Thank you Rick for this interesting explanations and the links to articles.
In the past few days I performed a few tests in After Effects and it is interesting that you mention that cameras, like the Sony EX3, allow videos to have embedded color profiles. I am not working myself with cameras but either get footage from the internet or sometimes videos from our video department which produces videos with professional SONY cameras, usually I get them in a matrox mxf format.
As far as my test with After Effects show it is not possible to embed color profiles in the videos rendered with After Effects. Independent of the color profile in the working space and independent from the color profile in the output module I always get the same reaction if I reimport videos rendered by After Effects back to After Effects:
In AE CS5 videos made in the formats Quicktime/PhotoJPEG, Quicktime/H264, H264 main concept, DVCPRO HD 1080p30, F4V  are always interpreted as color profile SDTV/HDTV (Rec. 709) Y'CbCr (even if I made them in other color profiles, such as Adobe RGB, Photo RGB, sRGB); and there is no possibility to change this interpretation rule.
In contrast videos made in the formats Quicktime/JPEG2000, Quicktime/Motion JPEG A, Quicktime/Motion JPEG B, Quicktime/MPEG-4, Quicktime/Animation are always interpreted as sRGB (even if if I made them in other color profiles, such as Adobe RGB, Photo RGB, HDTV); only this time I can change the interpretation rule. Therefore if I know for example that if I had selected Photo RGB in the Output module I can change after the reimport the interpretation rule from sRGB to Photo RGB and only then I get again the original colors.
The only exceptions are picture sequences, such as tiff-sequences, where the original color profile is automatically selected in the interpretation of the footage.
Therefore, unfortunately for videos produced by After Effects your advice "If it says something like sRGB and you can change it, in most cases you shouldn't change it because the guess is probably right. If there is no color profile assigned then you should assume that is correct." is not so easy to be applied. You have to know how you did it originally in the Output module and hope that you can change it to the proper color profile, in case that the original color profile in the Output module was different from sRGB and HDTV/SDTV. But it is interesting to hear from you that with cameras there seem to be more possibilities.
For this reason it would be nice if in future versions of After Effects one could change the color profile in the the color management tab of the "Interpret Footage" dialog box also for formats such as Quicktime/PhotoJPEG, Quicktime/H264, H264 main concept, DVCPRO HD 1080p30, F4V.
Of course one can always circumvent shortcomings by using tiff-sequences, QT/jpeg2000, or QT/Animation as formats for storing, which is anyway better for lossless or nearly lossless storing, but the files are then too large and also cannot be played easily with a player.

Will not having any ink in the color cartage cause the printer to fail the alignment test.

    Hi,
Yes. Usually the printer uses a combination of black and colour blocks to perform an aligment.  The specific patterns differ from printer to printer but the pattern is either read by an internal sensor or you have to take the page and put it on the scanner to scan the alignment page in some all-in-one printers.

  • How I can set Leopard to use the color management mixture that Tiger uses?

I have recently bought a new Mac with Leopard installed. My old Mac is running Tiger. Unfortunately the color management default settings in Leopard are different than in Tiger, so this is completely messing up my calibration. Can somebody please tell me how I can set Leopard to use whatever color management mixture that Tiger uses? - Thanks.

I already have set FF to No Proxy. This made FF work again, but not any of my other internet programs, programs that don't have the option to set to no proxy, they rely on the system settings. So I need to know how to reset my system settings back to their default values. This will allow all my net progs to access the net again, including FF using the Use System Settings option. Since FF has an option to use system settings, this is a somewhat FF related question. I need to get all my net programs working again, not just FF! And, if my system settings are restored, FF will work using the system settings, and all my other progs will work too.

  • Color management problem when printing

(sorry for the double post, since the problem affect both illustrator and photoshop and in fact also indesign) in decided to repost it here in the photoshop forum. thank you for any help!)
hi ! im in charge of a big print lab in a university. All macpro quad running on 10.6.4, CS5 all updated.
i  have a major problem when printing from all 3 CS5 apps : Illustrator  (being the worst), photoshop and indesign : each one produces a  different print even if i use the SAME color management options (the  application manage color using my own color profile file created with a  i-one tool from greta macbeath and using eye-one match 3). im printing  on a XEROX 7750gx laser printer. very cool printer never had trouble  with colors before with it, in any case it was always the software part  that was causing color problems (like i suspect in this case).
how  can 3 softwares under the same application collection and brand, using  the same color profile and options (IDENTICAL ! it's triple check all  the options!) can produce 3 different prints when printing the same  image (it's a color psd created under photoshop CS5) ?!
i  remember having some trouble like this when we first got CS1 in our lab,  but not this bad... i've checked everything... i realy don't know how  to fix this problem...
the best setting so far is in  Photoshop when the application manage the color and using my color  profile file in perceptual mode. best output so far, not the best i had  in the past, CS4 was way more perfect with color management.
i  realy need to find a solition 'cause the students expect the color to  be almost perfect (and they almost were using CS4 in the past...
thanx for any tips & help !
    +

many thanx for your reply & help.
i've just recalibrated everything in my workflow : my screen (perfect!), my xerox 7750 color laser printer. i've recreated a new color profile file for the xerox color. and the same thing is happening : a kind of pink color all over my prints and every adobe's applications is printing different results. in photoshop i can manage the problem when forcing to print in perceptual mode. not perfect but it's fine. and with the other software specialy like ACROBAT and INDESIGN there's no option like this so it prints very badly. only option is to print in adobe 1998 rgb or SWOP cmyk (depending of the color space of the image of course)... the image is use for my test is RGB. images in CMYK are doing the same exact thing.
by the way for calibration is use an x-rite (greta macbeth) eye-one tool with eye-one match 3.6.3. i calibrate the screens and create color profile with this tool since ADOBE CS1 and never had this much trouble with colors...
here's a capture from photostop CS5 print dialog. when using the option "match print colors" you can see the image with all the PINK NOISE when using the print in RELATIVE colormetric mode (at the bottom right). using perceptual is "fine" (not color perfect but OK).
    http://i53.tinypic.com/qzge12.jpg
it's worst in Acrobat and Indesign since i can't use perceptual colormetric print mode...
im realy starting to think that i better uninstal CS5 and go back to CS4...
    thanx for your help !
