Hi,
We cannot repair the damaged DVD disk on Windows side.
According to your previous post, it appeared that your DVD drive was working fine.
Please just contact the DVD provider to see if they have any idea to repair or replace the DVD.
Thanks for your understanding.

  • TS2839 how do i fix my dvd drive on macbook pro.  it is not accepting or taking in any cd/dvd's

Trying to install OS in my macbook pro.  DVD/CD drive is not letting or accepting the cd.   I could put it in 1/3, but the macbook does not take it in.  It seems something is stuck.  I checked to see if any cd is in there and even tried rebooting and holding down the trackpad to see if something ejects.   Please help.

You are going to have to take in for service, either at an Apple Store or a Service Provider. The slot-loading ultrathin drives in these Macs are somewhat fragile. Unless something is physically stuck inside, like a small diameter or irregularly shaped CD, there's a good chance that a part may be bent or damaged.
Here's additional info on CD/DVD issues and how to deal with them, but I wouldn't hold my breath: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801

  • ITunes causes DVD drive to fail in Toshiba Satellite laptops

This seemed unlikely to me and I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and/or suggestions.
This morning I discovered that the DVD drive on my Toshiba Satellite laptop wasn't working - Device manager said it Failed to Start (code 10). I called Toshiba and they asked what was the last thing I'd done on the PC. When I said, "Updating iTunes," they said that was the problem, due to an interaction between iTunes and Toshiba Satellite laptops.
Sure enough, uninstalling iTunes fixed the DVD drive.
So now I have to install / uninstall iTunes every time I want to update my iPod

Another thing to check on is a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
(One of the applications I' seen conflict in this way with iTunes on a Vista system is HP memories Disc Creator Software, which comes bundled with some HP digital cameras.)
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with just the iTunes filters in place, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term thing, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. (That way you wouldn't have to continually uninstall/install iTunes.) The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
EDIT: sorry Jason, didn't notice you'd already replied here. Didn't mean to butt in.

  • HT1338 my dvd drive does not want to read, it sound as like it wants to work

need help to fix my dvd drive, it does not wants to read any disk, it sounds like it wants to start but it won read them

    Hi
    Four thoughts
    • Brand and type of DVD/CD Media
    • Burn Speed ?
    • Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
    • Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
Brand and type of DVD/CD Media: MATTERS
    - Memorex, NoName and other Cheap brands - most probably works for other things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO.
    I only use Verbatim
    - DVD-RW - usually do not work OK but with various kinds of problems. DVD+R is a more modern sort and use to give problems on older DVD-players
    I only use DVD-R
Burn Speed (in iDVD or alike): Matters
    • Best or Max - is not best
I set it down to x2 or x4 Max
Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
I use one WITHOUT Liquid but with brushes from time to time
Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
    - Due to that Mac OS X - is UNIX - it behaves likewise. It needs lot's of space on Boot / Start-Up Hard Disk for it's and the applications temp files.
I never go less than 25GB free space - If HD-Video material is used then 4-5 times more is a good thing.

  • Dv9500 - No DVD Drive Detected

    Hello Everyone:
Last night my HP dv9500 laptop stopped detecting my DVD Drive.
This drive worked perfectly before yesterday.
In device Manger there is not even a section to view DVD/CD Rom Drives drivers.
I have deleted the upper and lower filters from the reg.
I have also taken the drive out of the laptop and re inserted.
    NON OF THE ABOVE HELPED.
The drive has power, but will not read or show up in the control panal.
One other thing to note is beside Vista updates I have not installed any new software or hardware.
Thanks for all of your time.......

Hey, just got the email about your posting....
So I have some bad news for you. In the end I really did not fix my DVD drive. It started to appear and then disappear over and over. In the next few days my whole system crapped out. Turns out there is a defect within the system that allows it to overheat and melt its internal components.   The DVD drive problem is just a sign that it is starting to happen.  There is no, and I repeat no recall on this issue in less you have a cretin model type.  You can look around the HP site to find the recalled system model numbers.
In the end I put up a huge three week long battle with HP to get my system fixed for free, but it never happened.  I had to pay $400 to get it fixed.  I love my HP system so I deemed the cash worth it.  I just called customer service and worked with them.  I had the system sent out and back in like a week or a week in a half.  It works great now.  I also bought a cooling pad for it right away which we use 100% of the time when our laptop is on our desk.
Anyway like I said, I feel bad for your situation, but more than likely you’re going to have to pay a bit to get it fixed.  Hope this helps you out.....

  • System Restore without working internal DVD drive - dv9210us

I have a set of recovery discs sent to me by HP for my dv9210us. I'm trying to use system recovery, but I'm running into some issues. My internal DVD drive stopped working some time ago. It is not a hardware issue with the drive, as I've purchased a new one with the same result (both work for roughly 10 minutes at a stretch once every few months, but that's a whole separate set of  posts ). Anyway, I have an external dvd drive, but I can't get the laptop to boot from it, and I can't boot from the internal obviously.
I have tried using the "F12" option at the startup screen, as well as using recovery manager from within Windows to initiate a restore. Both of these end up the same - as the machine boots, I basically get a black and white screen asking to select the operating system to boot. The only choice is "Windows Vista (recovered)". I select this, and the machine boots up as usual. No recovery takes place at all.
Am I missing something? Is there any way to restore this machine without the internal DVD drive working? Ironically, I was kind of hoping the restore would fix my DVD drive issue . One thought on this, not sure if it's related at all, but I had recently done a windows restore point (rolled back a few days trying to correct an issue where DVD playback suddenly started displaying in "negative" colors (aaaarrrrggghhhh)). I'm not sure if that could have affected the options that are available when I do the F12 startup (since it says "recovered")? Probably not, just grasping at straws...Please help...

F11 gets HP recovery from the hard drive if it has it.
Scroll down to "Restore the PC to its original condition with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible"
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00809678&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
F12 should get you a boot device list, does the external dvd drive (must be plugged in before power up) show up in the list? If it does highlight it and it should boot from disc 1 if it is in the drive.

  • CD/DVD Drive is physically broken how do I fix it?

Now I don't mean doing it myself. But literally the CD/DVD drive is squished together like a sandwhich. The notebook fell and landed on the side and that was the result. No CD or DVD can go inside the drive now. It looks like it's smiling eviley...
I know that it will probably cost money but I just want to know if it can get fixed. Also I got the laptop during 2008 in march. So I know the warranty is probably done for. I did not get apple care either so I know I don't have many options. But I'd like to know what can be done besides a new laptop.

I'm sure an Apple Store or AASP can give you an estimate and advice on whether to repair or replace. There are also third-party shops specializing in Mac Laptop repair. Both the shops I've heard good about are on the west coast.
PowerBook Guy is in San Francisco.
    MicroDoc is in Eugene OR.

  • Removing the DVD drive fixed my 5x blink boot issues

    Hey,
in the past few months or so i increasingly ran into the problem of my Probook 6470b refusing to boot and blinking 5 times which points to a system board malfunction.
I have had this PC for 1.5 years now, and in the beginninig this ocurred maybe once in a month, so i didn't care much about it. This increased drastically lately - statistically speaking my laptop refused to boot every fifth time or about every 20th when trying to force it by powering it up and down continuously.
The issue can be described as the following:
Caps Lock and Num Lock flashing in patterns of five, the screen displaying the HP logo and the DVD drive making some intense noises. After two minutes the PC usually continued to boot through. Alternatively one could remove the battery and try it again.
Due to the drastically increased occurances of this i contacted my countrys HP support and the store, but both refused to look into it because of the german 'revisal of the burden of proof' after six months. So i deciced to look into it myself.
This issue seems to be quite common accross a wide range of HP laptops, with some weird suggestions on how to fix it on the internet. In my opinion you have to differentiate between faulty soldering connections or burnt through chips and my described issue.
Similar accounts can for example be found here: [1] [2] [3] [4]
As this issue occurs on business laptop variants still on sale i think HP should be quite interesting in fixing this.
After a long preamble, here's the fix i found:
because the DVD drive made some noises usually not heard when booting as expectedi removed my Drive.
I tried powering the laptop on 30 times directly afterwards without problems and have been running this for 1.5 weeks or 25 successful power ups now (i kept a tally list). If it should fail eventually i will update this post.
Without the dvd drive the laptop looks a bit ghetto and is quite prone to dust, but i am thinking of buying a dummy drive that can be used to mount a second HDD.
As this issue increased after time my guess is that this is because of some BIOS update that assumes an error when the DVD drive isn't responding fast enough on boot.
Could a HP engineer please look into this?
I have the B6P73EA variant running BIOS 68ICE Ver. F.61 of 01/21/2015 with a DVD Drive manufactured in January 2013 by PLDS; P/N 6757534-HC1
    Thanks very much!<script src="chrome://YTAutoHDDE/content/YTAutoHDDE.js" type="application/javascript" charset="UTF-8"></script>

    Probook 6470B is the model.
As part of the POST process the computer will poll the drives and it is not unexpected that a bad optical drive will cause the whole process to hang before the computer boots. That is normal behavior. This is a peer to peer Forum by the way and the HP Engineers (other than those who choose to participate) are not monitoring the activities here.
I am glad you figured out the problem. A replacement DVD drive should not be too expensive or, as you suggest, you can use an optical to hard drive adapter. I believe HP also makes a blank for that space which ought to be really cheap.

  • Fixing DVD Drive in Qosmio G25

    Hello All,
My Matshusita UJ-845s DVD Drive in my Qosmio G25-AV513 can read most CDs, DVD+Rs, but usually fails to read most copied DVD-Rs.
I am looking for recomendations on how to fix or replace this faulty player.
    Thank You!

    Hi buddy,
did you tried to remove the drive from "device manager" and reinstall completely? Usually windows should then install the device and you shouldnt need any drivers, especially for DVD-RAM.
So, if not already did, remove it and try it.
    Greetings
