Fla to flv?

Hi,
Having already pulled my hair out, I have nothing else to
grab.
Once upon a time, I made a web site for a friend that has an
old Flash 5 cartoon in it. That friend wants the cartoon converted
to an flv file. Not sure why, but I think he wants to upload it to
YouTube.
The cartoon was made on an old Mac in Flash5, and the flv
file has to be opened on a PC. I still don't have parallels on my
iMac.
A) Can it be done?
B) How?
Thanks

i do practice full-time pediatrics in southern california.
that's my main occupation and what i put on my irs forms.
flash was strictly a hobby that started when i joined a
"clan" (BBH) playing quake2 years ago when i inherited the
maintainance of our clan website.
since then my interest in flash has evolved into a consulting
business but that business is far from my main source of income.
there's just no way computer programming/flash can pay as much as
medical practice.
in addition, i am a medical expert and asked to give my
opinion on various issues related to pediatrics. that pays even
better than my medical practice and much better than flash
consulting.
but i love flash and still enjoy coding and the problem
solving that's required. i enjoy nothing more than to have a large
flash project to complete while i'm on vacation.
the flash snippets i created for a variety of reasons. as you
can see most of them are related in some way to mathematics which
is also something i enjoy and my original career. and most of those
snippets arose because of someone's post in the adobe
forums.

  • Export of .fla to .flv automatically disabling audio

    I'm having an issue with exporting my fla file to flv within Flash CS3. The picture quality is perfect, but for some reason, it keeps disabling my audio. Is there a setting for audio that is optimal? I've tried almost every setting there is, even the highest setting (44kHz 16 Bit Stereo), but to no avail. Any suggestion as to why my audio is not translating?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Please clarify that you are creating a .flv file and not a .swf file..... I don't think Flash CS3 can create a .flv file.
    Are you using the FLV Playback component or are you embedding the video directly into the timeline or are you using some other method to create a .flv?

    use the flvplayback component. in the properties panel you

  • FLA to FLV, is it possible

    This is going to sound very naive but I want to attach a
    player (play, pause, rewind, etc) to my animation. I understand it
    does it automatically if it is a .flv file. I downloaded a trial
    version of Flash CS3 thinking I could convert my .fla file to .flv
    but that doesn't appear to be the case. So am I pursuing the wrong
    course, can an .fla file be exported to a .flv file? My real
    problem is for a WBT, I want consistency for pages that just have
    narration and pages that have animation. I want the same controls
    on each page. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

    A fix!
    QuickTime 7.2 requires your source video to be encoded at
    44.100 kHz on the Macintosh.
    Step 1: I saved my movie from the original .dv file to .mov
    to de-interlace the movie in QuickTime Pro.
    Step 2: I saved my movie from .mov to .mp4 choosing the
    44.100 kHz sound setting using QuickTime Pro.
    Step 3: I saved my .mp4 movie to .flv to use in Flash from
    QuickTime Pro.
    My video plays all the way through now. :)

  • Convert FLA/SWF to FLV

    Hello, although I’m sure this topic has already popped
    up in this forum, I was still unable to find a satisfactory answer
    nor was I able to hear from Adobe regarding this…
    I do have to convert SWFs or FLAs to FLVs; is there a way to
    do so? I find it extremely frustrating that if you develop a movie
    using flash, although you can export it to a Windows avi file or to
    a QuickTime movie, you cannot export it to an FLV… I
    understand that the word “Flash” from FLash Video means
    that you can view it via Flash player, but wouldn’t it make
    sense to be able to export a Flash movie to an FLV using Adobe
    “Creative” Suite rather than having to use some obscure
    software to perform the conversion?
    Thanks.

    I've been saying this since Adobe first introduced the FLV
    video format.
    They give you a separate application bundled with Flash so
    that you can convert to FLV, and they slipstreamed it into Flash
    itself for importing videos (all videos get converted to FLV on
    import). But for some reason, they haven't given us the ability to
    export FLV directly out of Flash. Makes no sense to me. (especially
    when we can export FLV out of Photoshop...)

  • Flash CS5 unable to play .FLV files on Macbook Pro

    I have a colleague who is trying to put together a Flash package for me  on her macbook pro.  It needs to play an flv file. She is unable to play  flv files on her computer either in Flash or using the Adobe Media  Player. I have no problem playing the same files on my macbook pro,  we're both running the latest OS and have version 1.8 of Adobe Media  Player.
    She went to the Adobe site to download the latest version of Adobe  Media Player, hoping that might include whatever component is missing on  her system. Because of Adobe's decision not to distribute AMP that  didn't help.  She has Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2 on her system.  When  she imports an flv video into a Flash project and tries to play it she  gets an error message saying it can't stream the video. Note that the  video is on her hard drive, it is NOT on the internet so no streaming  should be required.
    The actual error message is: "the video player is in the connection  error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load  but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no  connection to the server or the stream was not found."
    Since it's a file on her hard drive, and she has loaded the file  into the Adobe development environment successfully, the one thing we  know for certain is that neither of these reasons is correct. Something  is obviously missing on her system, what is it and what can we do to fix  it?

    I'm getting error too (Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound). I'm getting this with CS5. This file was previously made in CS4 and never got this error.
    Everything (fla and flv too) is on external hard disk.
    As this work requires to be exported to mov, I've found out that everything needs to be on the mac (don't know for pc), like on desktop.
    So, let me wrap up disadvantages I got with Flash CS5:
    - TextField.embedFont makes the font disappear in CS5, so I can't use it, so I can't "play" with text in a comfortable way (in CS4, with embedFont = true, I was able to rotate and stuff). Now I have to make a bitmap out of it. It means 3 lines of code and a new variable, instead of just an easy one.
    - I have to rebuild my entire source path structure for AS classes, as my old one (that took me years of effort to be reasonable and used to work just fine in CS4).
    - I have to move stuff from my hard drive to the desktop, to make flv be played and to make a mov out of my animation.
    CS5 is making my job harder and making me lose a lot of time to find out errors that have no good reason to exist (it was not error. just "place CS5 doesn't like").

  • SWF or FLV

    Few things make me feel stupid but this is starting to. I
    have an Adobe Media Server fully configured and ready to use.
    This is my question: I have both videos and tutorials. I have
    created my tutorials using Adobe Captive 3, videos are created from
    many outside sources.
    My Adobe Captive and Adobe Flash Pro create only SWF files.
    So why do I have a Media Server? The point is that I have a large
    population that accesses my site daily. My site has a max capacity
    of 10M up and down. The SWF files are very large and I do not want
    the user do have to down load the whole file before viewing it. I
    also do not want to use bandwidth to down load a tutorial that was
    not fully viewed.
    My media server only serves up FLV files. So what is Adobe
    thinking? I can convert the SWF files to FLV “not using an
    Adobe product”.
    So to ask a stupid question: Should I be converting my SWF
    files to FLV? And if not why?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Rodney,
    1. swf:
    Does your swf file "SkinUnderPlaySeekStop.swf" work in DW's play-mode?
    2. flv:
    Did you do really all the required DW-steps? In order you could control this I'll try to describe in detail from the beginning (translated from my German DW):
    Create a really new subdirectory (only for this trial).
    Create a new html/php-file(only for this trial).
    Work in designMode --> Insert Flash-Video.
    Search/browse ---> yourFLV.flv
    Skin: Halo Skin 3 (min. width 280) ( it was my choice)
    width 640 ( it's my choice)
    height 480 ( it's my choice)
    I clicked all the boxes
    ---> And now away with all these files below (produced from DW) to your server.
    Best you have a look with WIN-Explorer into your directory, to see all the files DW has created in your subdirectory and don't forget one):
    YourFlv.flv
    YourFlv.htm (or YourFlv.php)
    Clear_Skin_1.swf (my choice)
    FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf

  • Problems with FLV and Dreamweaver

    Hey everyone, I'm back with another rookie issue lol
    I am trying to insert flash video with a playback skin into DW.  From what I have been reading, it seems simple.  Inserting a .swf is no prob, but it seems doing it with a skin is a different animal.  I was about to start pulling my hair out and throwing things when I decided to take a walk.
    I just don't understand what I am doing wrong.  I have an .avi that I encoded to .flv using Adobe Media Encoder.  I would just import this into DW as is but I MUST have a full screen button in the playback skin, and for some ridiculous reason DW has no skins with a fullscreen button.
    So, I open the .flv into Flash and choose a skin that suits my fullscreen needs.  Flash then tells me that, "A Flash video component will be created on the stage and configured for local playback" when it finishes.  I understand that the video skin is copied to a new .fla file that will have to be uploaded as well? I also understand that a .swf will be created for the skin that must be uploaded as well.  I test the .swf that contains my video, and no problems all is as it should be.
    I upload all the necessary files into my DW directory, and insert the .swf.  When I go to preview in browser, it tells me "Error #2044: Unhandled skinError:. text=[IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2035: URL Not Found. URL: SkinUnderAllNoCaption.swf"]"  Is this because I am trying to sets it locally?  I read that the source parameters will have to be changed to reflect the filepath on my server.  Seems logical.  But is this the filepath of the .fla or the .flv, or is it for the .swf that I am editing parameters for?  I am just confused, if the .swf is already embedded then why do I need to upload the .flv too?  I also have the .swf skin in the same folder but it won't show up in preview either.
    I guess my problem in a nutshell is, why won't my skin show up, and which files need to be uploaded?  I am lost on this.  I am following instructions on all of the tutorials I read, but it just doesn't seem to be working for me.
    If anyone has any suggestions for me, I would gladly accept them!  As always, much appreciation for reading and for offering any advice!
    Thanks,
    Jayson

    "I understand that the video skin is copied to a new .fla file that will have to be uploaded as well?"
    The *.fla is the project file and should not be uploaded.
    I do this kind of thing regularly at work so... First, you should create a folder with a good descriptive name, lowercase with underscores between words. Place your fla and flv in that folder. Create a new Flash document in the folder you just created and go "File" - "Import" - "Import Video". As you click through the Wizard select the video controller in the "Skinning" section. Next under "Modify" - "Document" select the background color you want. Then size the document so the video with controller just fits.
    Go to "File" - "Publish Setings" and hit the "HTML tab. Make sure that "Flash Only - Allow Full Screen" is selected.
    Hit "Publish" and make sure that you "Publish" to the folder you created.
    Open the HTML file that was exported from Flash with Notepad. Carefully select the honkin Javascript that is within the head tag and copy it to clipboard.
    Next open the html file that you created n Dreamweaver that will be your video page and paste this Javascript into the same place (inside the head tag).
    Next copy and paste the following code from your Flash generated HTML document into the Dreamweaver video page:
    <!--Below is just an example of where the code begins and ends, don't use the following code-->:
    <!--url's used in the movie-->
    <!--text used in the movie-->
    <!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->

  • How do I know when a file loaded into a Sound object is invalid?

    I'm writing an app that allows the user to play various sound files.
    Some of these files are mp3, but some may also be ogg, wma, etc.  The selection is out of my control, so I need the sound API to tell me if it can't play something.
    To test, I loaded some test files into a sound object like so:
                    var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://support.microsoft.com/support/MediaPlayer/wmptest/samples/new/mediaexample.wma");
                    var sound:Sound = new Sound();
                    var soundChannel:SoundChannel = sound.play();
    Even though Flex doesn't play wma's there is no error information or null objects anywhere.  Everthings seems to be fine to flex, I can even register for progress events and see the wma being loaded.
    Just to see how far this goes, I loaded a gif instead of an audio file and the same thing happened.  Progress went fine with no errors of any kind even though I registered for every listed event.  As expected though, no sound played from the gif file.
    What is the recommended way for checking if a file is not playable?

    I'm looking more for an "is it playable" value (since it might be an FLA or FLV as well).
    Even a meaningful length value would work (for some reason duration is set to a value even when loading a gif file - not sure what it means for a GIF to have a length of 96 milliseconds).
    For now I'll have to filter on extension as you mentioned.

  • Animated movie clips in button skin states

    Hello to gurus out there,
    i am trying to attach flash animated skins to my button in a Flex application. Can somebody help me?
    Works fine but don't animate the movieclip (timeline animation) on up, over and down states.
    Thnaks!
    CSS file:
    .flashButton
        up-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#upSkin");
        over-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#overSkin");
        down-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#downSkin");
    FlashButtonSkin
    [other code]
    <s:BitmapImage id="icon"
                       source="{hostComponent.getStyle('upSkin')}"
                       left="0" right="0" top="0" bottom="0" />
    Main.mxml
    <s:Button styleName="flashButton" skinClass="skins.FlashButtonSkin"/>

    flv's are video files, not movieclips.
    they can be imported into your main (or, any other ) timeline but that's not recommended because of possible audio/video sync problems.
    it's better to play your videos in an flvplayback component (window>component panel).
    can you add an flvplayback component to your stage?  if so, in the properties panel assign an instance name (eg, flv_pb).  if you can do that successfully, open the actions panel (window>actions) and paste,
    flv_pb.source = "thenameofyourflvfile.flv";   //<- use the correct path/name.  if you save your fla and flv in the same directory and use the default publish settings, no path is needed.
    and test.  any problem?
    if not, you're one step away from completing your project.  if yes, what problem?

  • Creating Flash video issues

    I am trying to convert a .mpg to a Flash video and can get
    most of the way but it's not playing on my web page. I can view
    locally when I do a open with IE and it plays before I upload all
    the files but once I upload all the files it will not play.
    These are the steps I am taking to do this:
    1. Open Macromedia Flash Professional 8
    2. Select File/New/Flash Document
    3. In Document Properties change Dimensions to: 354px w x
    240px h
    4. File/Import/ImportVideo...
    5. Where is your video file? On your computer: (Browse to
    file 'ff.mpg' and select Ok) then click 'Next'
    6. Deployment: I select 'Progressive download from a web
    server' (click Next)
    7. Encoding: In dropdown I select Flash 7 - Medium Quality
    (400 bps) and on right side change my slider to start where I want
    it to and then click 'Next'
    8. Skinning: Skin = ClearOverPlayMute.swf and click 'Next'
    9. Finish Video Import: Click 'Finish'
    10. Then a Save As pops up and I save to demo.fla (Flash
    Video Encoding Progress shows it encode the video)
    11. I can see the video in Flash 8 and view the video by
    going to Control/Test Movie and works great.
    In my /flash folder I have the following files: ff.mpg,
    demo.fla, ff.flv, ClearOverPlayMute.swf, demo.swf
    12. Open Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and create new web page
    (File/New)
    13. Click on the flash icon and select demo.swf and it
    creates code and upload demo.html along with all the other files
    excep ff.mpg
    Link is:
    Page with my
    code.
    Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working? Do I have
    to set something on the server? A friend with MX didn't do any
    encoding.
    Thanks for anyone that have any thoughts.

    I am also facing the same problem and I am told that you have
    to configure the MIME settings on your server
    & ensure that the path to the flv. is correct.
    Hope this helps
