Yes, add an AirPort Express and convert FLAC to Apple Lossless and iTunes will be able to play them. VLC will not help since you need iTunes to connect to the AirPort Express and VLC will not work with iTunes.
There may be an exception to this but I've never tried it. You could try using AirFoil to connect to the AirPort Express and play your FLAC files that way but I have no guarantee it will work. AirFoil seems very flexible so it may prove to be a solution for you.
I'm not familiar with the Sonos Bridge/Connect system so I cannot comment on the quality. I understand that it is comparable to using the AirPort Express but locking at the price it seems a more expensive solution for your needs.

FLACs in iTunes

I have been very surprised by the fact that iTunes is unable to recognize the music files of the type FLAC. This type of file appears to be the one favored by most music lovers due to the superior music quality. Although, the files are typically larger than the standard MP3 file type, I would expect the FLAC files gaining substantially in popularity in the immediate future as disc storage space is less of an obstacle today. I would hence strongly advise Apple to incorporate the recognition of these files with the capability of perhaps reformatting them to standard MP3s.

The files themselves are fine as they work in WMP11 and earlier with the same codec, and renaming the file extension from .m4a to .mp4 gets round the problem but upsets iTunes.
So far I have not found a fix for this which is clearly down to WMP12 - as an experiment I forced the installation of WMP11 on to Windows7 and everything worked fine with the same files.
However, a new possibility occurs to me. iTunes now has the ability to automatically transcode music files down to 256Kbps AAC format when syncing to iPod/iPhone/iPad devices, I actually currently do this (from Apple Lossless). So if iTunes for Windows could be made to fully accept FLAC files, and (hopefully) still will be able to automatically transcode to AAC format when syncing, then I could still have all my tracks stored in lossless format for use at home, but still be syncable to an iPhone etc.
Could you therefore detail what plugins for iTunes for Windows you are referring to?
The one I have seen in the past could not cope with the standard FLAC file format but could play FLAC compressed files in an OGG wrapper.

Future support flac in iTunes

Since April 2004 I'm a very satisfied user of the iPod Photo 60GB and iTunes and ripped all my 1200 cd's into 320kbps AAC-files. Because I loved the way iTunes works with the iPod I was planning to buy a Macbook for next year!
Some weeks ago I bought myself an Onkyo AV-receiver with Phonar P5.5 speakers though... And now I need a lossless audio codec that is supported by iTunes, the AVR and Synology DS410, but unfortunately only WAV is supported by all 3. But the lack of an ID3-tag makes it no option for me and ALAC or FLAC got my attention.
ALAC, however, is not supported by the Onkyo-receiver and Synology-nas and I emailed them both if this will happen in the near future. Onkyo responded that they are working on it but don't know when this will be solved.
Now my questions:
1. When will FLAC be supported in iTunes?
2. And will an update for my iPod add support for FLAC (or will future iPods have it...)?
FLAC in iTunes or ALAC in receiver and nas will solve my problem and I would hate the idea of uninstalling iTunes when none of these 2 solutions will possible.
PS: It goes without saying that I'll lose the interest I have in buying a Macbook if my future lossless audiofiles are not widely supported.

I'm just saying I'm just ONE user who is enough satisfied with iTunes/iPod that I'm considering buy a Macbook in stead of computer with Windows like I always did. By coincidence I received a popup on the Apple-site to fill in a survey, so if Apple is not interested in my view (or of others) then why bother asking people to fill in surveys.
Besides, I don't think I'm alone in this: With the increased bandwiths, cpu-power, almost unlimited datacapacities and increase of the popularity of DLNA I think it's time Apple start seeing that (even MS does with their support in W7)!
To say it just plain and simple: If Apple doesn't give a rat's *** about it's potential customers and their demands from a marketing point of view then they aren't worth me and others having as a customer. But I hope it never ends up like that and I can keep on using iTunes (with FlAC-support or ALAC-support from other makers).
The following reasons keep me from ripping my music into FLAC are (hopefully the marketing people of Apple take notice ):
1. Within short notice Apple implements support for FLAC in iTunes (and their iPods);
2. Within short notice Onkyo and Synology implements support for ALAC in their products.
3. I lose hope 1 or 2 will ever happen and when my 6 year old iPod dies I have no reason anymore to not start ripping my music into FLAC. The consequence though, is that the only (forget WMA-lossless!!!) lossless codec that works with DLNA doesn't work in iTunes so this program becomes unuseful. But I still want a notebook but why buy a Macbook if the audiofilesystem isn't widely supported???
PS: Again, I know I'm just ONE person, but I hope somebody important will read my comments here and starts thinking about the consequence if more people agree with me....

FLAC to iTunes--best software?

There are so many versions of software that claim to convert FLAC files to ALAC for iTunes. Which do you like the best? I know that many applications are free, but I've had problems with shareware in the past.
What about the Bigasoft FLAC converter for $19.95? Do you like this one?
Any direction you can give would be much appreciated.

I currently use XLD most. The confusing part is most of the configuration options are in preferences rather than right in front of you, but I like it mostly becuse it will convert ot multiple formats at once. I use it for archiving my CD collection with one copy in FLAC for backup and one in mp3 for the computer and my mp3 player. It is also updated very regularly.

No. That is frequently asked, but in fact, iTunes has never supported FLAC.
Over the years, there have been a few attempts to enable iTunes to play FLAC by means of plug-ins, such as those from Xiph. However, they (1) are not reliable or well-supported, and (2) allow iTunes playback but do not allow iPod syncing. So don't waste your time.
If you have FLAC files, you need to convert them to an audio format that iTunes can play, such as Apple Lossless or MP3. Add the converted files to your iTunes library, but keep the FLAC originals on hand for when you are using a more capable player.

I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet. My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses. I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work. However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account. Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses. Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now. We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores). Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud. That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup. That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice. You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.

Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response. What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures. Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures. 1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups
Decide on whether to setup as Admin or Standard User.
Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar or use Fast User Switching
Fast User Switching allows other users to leave current applications and windows open. Depending on RAM, you might need to log out rather than use FUS.

If you want to change your iCloud ID to another existing ID you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your phone.) After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, set up a new iCloud account using your other ID, then turn syncing for your data (contacts, etc.) back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to your new account.
This will not move your photo stream, however. If you have photos in photo stream that aren't in your camera roll and that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account. To do this, open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. You can then delete the iCloud account and your photos will stay in your camera roll.

Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

One account for itunes match and one for all the rest?

Hello everybody
I was wondering how to use an Apple ID for iTunes Match and other for iCloud and backups. I found an article on the website that said that you actually can do that, but my question arises when I find out that now I only use one ID, all my apps are in there, along with my iPhone backups and stuff. So, if I create an ID for subscribing to iTM, will I lose the ability to update my apps on the old ID?

I know, but I can't use my credit card on my iTunes Store account, since it's a US ID. What if I change the country of my ID? How often can I change it? I was thinking of changing it, purchasing iTM, and then changing it back... can I do that?

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I read about doing this online and it looks simple and easy ... and yet, when i go to switch it on my iphone, there is only 1 place for an icloud account (our shared account) and it is greyed out so that I cannot change it. Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings. Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account. You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account. (have restrictions turned off) That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices. Then sign in using the new ID.
