I have an HP Split 13 x2 PC Product number E8C34UA#ABA and serial number(Personal information removed). Windows 8.1 updated last night and this morning I completed the custom setup but, not the recommended setup, then I shut the computer down. The following morning, today, I turned my tablet on and got a message of [Flash Dock EC] Yes or No before Windows 8.1 loaded. My first thought is the update caused the issue but reading other people’s posts, they didn’t get the message associated with the update. There does not seem to be a resolution to be found on the web so I am a little hesitant to pay for service, since I am out of warranty, although I only started using the table about 1 week ago, when I am not sure anything can be detected. I also belive I saw a brief message about Adobe and I just installed that yesterday, before the 8.1 update. Has anyone else had this issue that know the cause or the resolution?

HP offers a Global Warranty. This warranty covers your product regardless of which country you are in or where you purchased the product. There is however one important note: Service for your product is subject to the availability of parts in your current location. So if parts for an american product are not available in Aruba they may not be able to service your notebook in Arub and the unit would need to be shipped to a friend or family member in the US. Once shipped they can send it to the service center on your behalf and return it to you.

W540 + Dock + Dual U28D590 (UHD) monitors

Hi,
I have a W540 dock previously driving 2xDell U3011 monitors. It worked okay (there were problems with the U3011 going into a sleep-freeze-hell mode but from what I could gather it was more a problem with the U3011 firmware).
I've just upgraded (or tried to) to 2xSamsung U28D590 UHD monitors. This does not appear to work well at all. I've experienced the following symptoms in the following conditions:
(excuse bullet point formatting - cannot figure out how to nest bullet points)
One monitor plugged in - either monitor, on either display port - works fine. Monitor goes to native, laptop lcd goes to native.
Both monitors plugged in, Laptop open - I can drive ONE of the D590's to the native (3840x2160) resolution. The other monitor connects at 1024x768. Any attempt to change resolution on this one gives the ambiguous "Unable to save display settings" error.
Any attempt to disconnect the laptop screen in the screen configuration also gives the "Unable to save display settings" error.
Both monitors plugged in, laptop closed
Ths initial state here is glitchy. The screen config thinks both screens are on, but only one is actually showing anything. It is also periodically flickering (the screen goes dark, for maybe a tenth of a second) as if it is in a lower-power configuration, and as far as I can tell this is happening consistently at 1hz. I haven't run this for long because I am afraid it is doing damage to the monitor.
After some tinkering I can get both screens to show at 2560x1440. Any attempt to push either screen to native simply causes the screen to flicker and the "Do you want to keep these display settings?" prompt to come up - however the screens remain at 2560x1440.
Has anybody else had any experience with trying to drive 2 UHD monitors? I'm really hoping I haven't just wasted a lot of money.
I'm happy to not use the laptop LCD if that is necessary. I would try discrete only BIOS mode but this has been removed for reasons beyond my understanding.
My configuration:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
W540
- 20BGCTO1WW.
- Bios version GNET60WW (2.08). I know the BIOS is old - the laptop originally shipped with 2.09 - but I had all manner of hellish problems getting my RAM to work (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W540-with-G-Skill-F3-1866C10D-16GRSL/td-p/1459... and ended up downgrading. I've checked the BIOS changelog and nothing seems to relate to this issue so I have avoided upgrading for the moment to avoid the risk of bricking my laptop
- 2880x1620 LCD
- Quadro K2100M - drivers 9.18.13.1269
- Intel HD Graphics drivers 10.18.10.3910
Dock 40A20135AU (yes, the 135W dock - I was told on these forums this was okay, and indeed is the unit shipped/recommended for the W540 by Lenovo Australia).
- I believe I've upgraded the firmware available from here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd028011 . I'm not 100% because after running it, it showed a progress box for flashing which disappeared and there was no confirmation prompt.

Colonel, just realised I didn't answer your previous question - yes, I am driving both monitors from display port cables.
I've updated the NVIDIA Drivers to 9.18.13.1269. Unfortunately this hasn't made a difference (well, it has broken wake from sleep again, but it has not helped)
I've also installed the monitor drivers but this also has not made a difference unfortunately.
ptdh thanks for the information. The fact that I was able to drive a single monitor at 3840x2160 makes me suspect something else is afoot. Not entirely sure if the Pro2840m drivers would work at all on my monitor or even a good idea - from what I understand they are different panels?
Maybe there's just better inherent support in Win8 because of the drive for retina level everything. At the moment unfortunately I don't have time to go and install Win8 on a test drive just to check this.
I have a suspicion it might be a problem more with the Intel side of things thanks to the convoluted optimus display. But sadly I cannot force discrete at a low level because in their infinite wisdom Lenovo have removed that option from the BIOS.
Also tried installing the Intel drivers (not sure if the correct ones - here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764&lang=eng&ProdId=3319) but unfortunately due to the usual OEM/Vendor faffery they won't install on my system.
If anyone else has more input (any official comment from Lenovo rep? I have emailed support but it's been radio silence so far)

T431s Dock and multiple screens

i wan to ask a question i cant get an answer to myself.
I want to buy a T431S (20AA0012MH) and I want it to work with a dock: The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 type 4338 (looks like this one: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd014484)
First question; fits the laptop the dock?
Second question; can i use two 1600x900 resolution screens connected with DVI to that dock with this laptop?

Display preference in Dock

I need to change the display preferences very often. Is it possible to place only this one preference in the dock? Thanks.

Yes. Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ as the path, and drag that pane to the right side of the Dock.

Can't open Home or Apps from Dock

Hi all,
I've just done an Archive & Install and now can't open the Home or Applications folders from the Dock. When I click on them in the Dock, an icon that looks like a cassette tape appears for a second, then disappears. I can open Home and Apps from the HD folder on my desktop.
Any ideas?

I can put the Applications and Home icons in the Dock (next to the Trash) but neither folder will open from there. I have to go to my Mac HD folder on the desktop to open both. It seems there's some problem with the shortcut, but the actual folders are there and open OK, just not from the Dock.

If it sheds any light, I'm noticing strange things since doing the Archive & Install. For example, Column View doesn't stick (after setting it in Apple > Dock > Dock Preferences to 'always open in column view') and I'm unable to download Acrobat Reader (it returns an error message saying it's not compatible with my system). USB iPod Dock crashes Mini

I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I can't find it. I haven't been able to update my ipod for ages because connecting the dock to a USB port crashes my mini. I've tried all ports. I've tried unplugging other devices. I believe it WILL start with my mouse unplugged, but I can't figure out how to get past the window that then keeps searching for my mouse. Not to mention it is then hard to get around. I've tried other mice. Still doesn't like mouse and dock. This is the universal dock. My ipod is the 30 GB video. Should I get another kind of dock?

Yes, I had tried every port and various permutations of which device was in which port. It seems to be a case of WHAT I have plugged in with the USB cable. I also plugged in an Apple mouse instead of the third party one I had been using. I AM also using a third-party keyboard. I don't have an Apple substitute for that. I don't plug anything into a low-powered port, such as a keyboard one.
I am certain that the mouse is not USB 2 and, possibly, the keyboard. My printer isn't either. I don't know about the iPOD cable. But I wonder if having so many USB 1 devices plugged in may be the problem....

Customizing icons in Dock: is it true you can't?

Is it really true you can no longer create custom icons for the Dock?
(yes, I get that you can arrange the top icon in that folder in such a way that it shows up as the folder's icon...sort of.)
The Dock's loss of productivity is such that for the first time ever, I'm telling colleagues to not upgrade to Leopard.

I found a solution for this, sort of... The icon in the Dock is only the plain folder, if the folder is empty. Once you put any items in it, the icon of the folder changes to a "stack of icons" with the most visible top item being the first item in the sort order. If the sort order is alpha-numerical, then the top-of-the-stack item is the one the starts with the lowest number. Honestly, I don't know what the interface design folks at Apple were thinking, but here's a way make it look then way you want.
If you want the Dock icon of that special folder (or "stack" as it's called now) to look like the icon you want, here's what I did. (1) Do a Get Info on the special icon folder in Finder. (2) Select the icon in the Get Info window and Copy it. (3) Open that special folder and create a New Folder inside. (4) Do a Get Info on that new folder, click on the icon, and Paste the special icon image so that it looks like the parent folder. (5) Change the new folder's name so the it is first alpha-numerically; I just used "00" (that's two zeros) as the name. (6) Go back up one level to see the parent folder in a Finder window, and drag it to the Dock.
Since the first item in the stack is now the folder with the desired icon, it will appear in the Dock. If fact, the other items will appear to be stacked behind it, which actually looks appropriate. Ultimately, I hope Apple provides an Dock preference option to show the icon of the folder instead showing the stack.

Disabling Sleep mode while on dock

Hi there, I got my iphone about 3 weeks ago and I'm loving it.. I've already replaced my clock radio with it thanks to it's awesome multiple alarm times and schedules I can set for different days.
The query I have is a bit of a weird one. When I place my phone in it's dock next to the bed the charging icon comes up and the clock is displayed above that. All well and good.
However, as you would expect, the screen goes to sleep after 30sec. What I'm wondering (and I can't seem to see a way) is there a way to disable the screen sleep when the phone is on it's dock and charging. I would love to just use my phone as a clock next to the bed when I'm at home so I can easily glance at it and tell when time it is (say if I wake up in the middle of the night) rather than having to fumble around for it and unlock it.
Does anyone know a way to do this? Or is this just "not a feature (tm)"

Go for it, I would probably get it. But Auto-lock would still have to be set for never, or the screen would sleep anyway. You could also just open up the Clock app (with Auto-Lock set to never) for a somewhat larger clock display. Unfortunately, you can't set it for "docked."
Yes you would have to turn this on/off depending if it was in the dock if you were concerned about not locking it before you set it down or put it away. I always have Auto-lock set to never because I always press the sleep button when I put it away.

Does the Universal Dock provide a true Line-Out port?

I recently bought a Universal Dock for my new black iPod. However, when I tried to connect it with an audio system or with video editing equipment, it turned out that it did not provide a true line-out signal. Instead, what came out was just the same sound as when using the headphone port. This means much less dynamics as the sound is obviously filtered and processed by an equalizer. I can raise the volume with the scroll wheel, but that is not the point. I'm sure this used to be different with my old 3rd generation iPod and a conventional dock. Even when I hook up the iPod with a Belkin Pocket Dock, I get a true and clear line-out signal with a constant volume, no matter whether the Pod's volume control is up or down. What's wrong here? Why does Apple suggest you get line-out when you can't? Is there a third party solution which supports the Apple remote control?

Yes, of course. This puzzles me. You are using a UNIVERSAL dock, not a conventional one? I mean, the one that you can operate with a remote control? As I said, I checked the problem with another universal dock at my retailer, and it showed the same problem. No full line-out, and the volume wheel DID have an effect on the sound. Should I e-mail Apple about this and ask them whether they sell different kinds of docks depending on the respective continent? And is there any Apple e-mail address for complaints/questions like this?

IPod touch 4g not turning on

I Left my iPod locked for 2 hours after using it to listen to music and watch downloaded videosand it had roughly 40% left when I locked it. I then tried to unlock my iPod and nothing came up on the screen.I then went to bed and left my ipod on charge on the dock overnight (yes, ik it's bad for the battery) and I woke up the next day an it still would not turn on and all it showed was the red battery with a lightning bolt as if it was charging.That is the only thing it will show.
I Have tried holding both the home and on/off buttons together for 60 seconds while it is charging and while it was not. When charging when I press's the two buttons the same screen comes up with the battery and after roughly 7 seconds a it disappears after a white flash. Nothing happens when I try pressing both the buttons together when it is not charging
I have tried putting it into DFU mode and then tried to restore from iTunes but partly way through the iPod looks as if it was disconnected and then re-connected and I get an error 2006 I have tried using software to copy what is on my iPod and save it on the computer and the same thing happens.
I Have tried 2 different cables (both over a year old) and I have tried all my pc ports and a different computer and norton says it is "allowing" iTunes on its traffic policy
I have tried letting the battery drain for a week then charging it and still the same result.
The ipod has a crack in the top left and is 3 years old and the screen was replaced a year ago.
I Have no idea how to fix this, help plz.

IMac and second display help.

I am currently thinking about getting a second display for my iMac.
Because my iMac is only 17" i need a bigger screen.
I have 3 questions-
1. Can i use my imac as the second display and have my new display as the main screen displaying the menubar and dock?
2. Are there any monitors other than the apple displays that look really good with the imacs?
3. With an intel graphics card is there a maximum screen size it can cope with?

QM in Procurement: Automatic Certificate Generation

I'm trying to learn QM in Procurment on the fly. I have a customer with a requirement to track certficates related to PO line items. The vendor sends products to a independent lab, who issues the cert. This is something between a PO confirmation and QM requirement.
Is there a way to either:
a) Automatically generate a QM Certificate on PO release rather than manually create one in QC51?
b) report on POs w/o certificates? QC55 is the only reporting I can find.
I think I need to create a user exit to generate a QM cert in a 'not recieved' status.

Just because the material is sent to an outside lab who issues the cert I'm not sure why this would change the standard process.
Set up the QM in procurement to require a cert on receipt. Allow the receipt of the material without the cert however.
Whether the receiver at the dock answers yes or no, a record will be automatically created in QC51.
When the COA is received the user uses QC52 to change the record to cert received and filed.
If you want control of the stock turn on the 01 inspection type. The UD won't be able to be made until the cert is marked in QC51 as received.

Skip when shuffling by setting not holding

My wife is having all kinds of problems setting iTunes to skip a song when shuffling. She sets it in iTunes and as soon she updates iTunes Match it removes the settings by from the songs. Any ideas?

Let me see if I can be clearer in my description of what's happening, sorry.
I put a group of songs into a playlist titled with the genre of the songs. Then I highlighted all of the songs in that playlist and clicked on options. Checked off the box "Skip when shuffling" because those songs still appear in my library in general. This should enable me to play my library and those songs would automatically get skipped everytime (yes, my iPod is in Shuffle mode) but they don't. They do when playing from iTunes on my desktop but not on my iPod when in the dock. (Yes, I sync'd my iPod)
