Flag email as junk...pointless task!

why do I still get Dr Oz miracle cure junk mail after I've flag it as junk everyday

Thanks for your input Barney, but I realise how Smart Mailboxes work. I think you misunderstood my explanation.
What I am saying is that the Junk mail button in the toolbar performs differently when clicked on a message that is selected in a Smart Mailbox to when clicked on a message that is selected in the Mail Inbox.
Clicking on a message selected in a Smart Mailbox merely flags the message as junk, but does not move it. Clicking on the same message selected in the Mail Inbox both flags it as junk and moves it to the Junk mailbox.
This is a different behaviour in Mavericks. As I explained, I have an "UNREAD" Smart Mailbox set up to bring together all my unread mail. Previous to Mavericks, marking a message as junk mail in this Smart Mailbox (using the toolbar button) moved it to the Junk mailbox. In Mavericks, this no longer works. But it does work if the message is being viewed from the Inbox (rather than via a Smart Mailbox).
FYI I have reindexed all my mail folders several times since 'upgrading' to Mavericks.

  • Can I flag email as JUNK myself?  How?

  • ICloud flags known good email as junk!

For the past few months, iCloud mail has frequently flagged known good email as junk. In all cases, the messages that are flagged are from correspondents who have been sending me messages for years without any problem. Now, all of a sudden, iCloud thinks these messages are junk—and continues to flag them as junk no matter how many times I tell iCloud that they are "not junk".
I also see that Apple offers iCloud tech support only to those whose computers are still in warranty. What's with that?! No email support, no nothing.
    Suggestions appreciated.

    - Add the thumbs down button to your mail toolbar as other commenters have noted (View>Customize Toolbar).
    - Open your junk mail folder and find one of the messages that should not have been marked as junk.
    - Hit the "Thumbs Down" button.
    - A banner will appear at the top of the message preview window that says "You marked this a junk mail."
    - In that banner will be a "Not Junk" button.
Contrary to Apple's principle, this is not very intuitive, and it places the blame/responsibility for the mis-categorization back on the user ("YOU marked..."). However, this method does work to keep future messages like the ones you've unmarked from landing in your Junk folder.

  • Mail Marked with Quick Flags (follow up) in Outlook, Tasks - TO-DO LIST - Not SYNCING

This question goes for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007
    I'm currnetly using outlook 2007
In Outlook I store mail marked with "quick flags" (follow-up). Outlook shows theses flagged emails under Tasks \ To-Do List. To-Do list is under TASKS in outlook, but does not sync with Blackberry.
I use Desktop Manager 4.7 to synchronize outlook and my blackberry curve 8330 (calendar, memos, tasks and contacts). The behaviour of task synchronization makes that only task appears on my blackberry but not the flagged mails.
I guess what i'm asking, is it possible to synchronize the complete outlook to-do list with my blackberry?

Outlook already provides that feature (depends on the version of Outlook I guess) :

otherwise there is a macro that does the same :

  • Flagging Mail As Junk

Well, Apple seems intent on becoming as difficult to use and as convoluted as anything MicroSoft has ever created.
On my iPad 2, I can't flag an email as junk. That's right,mi get junk mail, but I can't actually FLAG it as junk because Apple, like Microsoft knows better and has apparently decided that it is bad for me, an adult who can afford to buy their products, to decide what mail is junk. So, THEY chose what is junk and what isn't and, apparently, if I don't like it, tough toenails because Apple is smarter than me.

I mean this in jest, but just had to take this opportunity to let you know that since you didn't know that flagging of email as junk is a function of your mail service (as pjl correctly stated above) and not Apple (how could it be, when Apple is only providing a mirror of your mail from your mail service?) that your comment about Apple being smarter than you is likely true!
    Again, only in jest........

  • Flagged emails stored in folders

I use my iPhone and get my work email via active sync.  Backend is exchange 2007.
At work I use outlook 2010 and flag emails that come in to my inbox for follow up and then file them in the correct folder.  I then use the todo list on my tasks tab in outlook to see what I have got to action and when.  This shows all emails I have flagged.
On the iPhone I don't see any of this. However in ios6 flagging an email in my inbox makes this appear in a flagged folder on my iPhone but if I do what I do at work and move this out of my inbox it no longer shows as flagged on my iPhone????
Any ideas how to show flagged emails on my iPhone that are moved out of my inbox.  I don't want to keep them in box as I want to de-clutter...
    Thanks
    Mark

My workflow is exactly like Mark does it. If I could open 'reminders' and see my flagged messages in folders other than the inbox, that would work too...
I cannot believe that iOS does not provide a way to view this, I want to see all my flagged messages, no matter where they are...

  • HT5361 Flagging emails on multiple devices

Hi I have a 2011 Macbook Air and an iPhone 5 that work together fine. I receive emails on both (through a gmail account) and if I flag or unflag an email on either device it shows in the other, and vice versa.
I also have a 2009 iMac at home that sync's with all the normakl apps, Calender, Tasks etc through the same gmail account, it also receives the emails okay however I have never been able to get it to flag emails correctly; it completly ignores what is happening on my other devices.
Everything is pretty standard, and as I say all devices are set up with the one gmail account; anyone got any ideas, i'm all out!

Not a flaw, but a function of what type of mail account you have. Doing what you want requires an IMAP or Exchange account. Not possible with a POP account, & it sounds like you have a POP account.
That's the way POP accounts work.

  • Thunderbird fails to send email when "Scan email for junk mail" option is checked in Server Admin

I have 2 clients that need to send mail through my server, one Mac and one Windows. The Mac uses apple mail and the Windows machine uses Thunderbird.
Apple Mail will send fine, it is set up for "Use Default ports 25, 465, 587" and "Use SSL" and "Authentication: MD5 Challenge-response".
Thunderbird refuses to send and I don't even see any errors showing up in the Console on the OS X server under smtpd entries.
If I uncheck the "Scan email for junk mail" option on the server, then Thunderbird will send fine.
Thunderbird is set up as: "smtp port 587 (default)" "connection security: STARTTLS" "Authentication method: Encrypted Password"
May or may not be relevant: I use virtual domains as well as aliases.
Server: Mac OS X Server version 10.5.8

Solved it, looks like maybe the smtpd settings for sasl authentication may not have been correct. I followed everything in http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/38/41/ the "Frontline Spam Defense for OS X server" guide and now can send mail just fine from Thunderbird Winodws and from Apple Mail.

  • How can I delete flagged emails that are not visible in my account boxes?

Currently I show 43 flagged emails but not in any of my accounts is there a flag.  I am not sure if I deleted them early in learning to use my iphone 4s or what.  Certainly I had flagged email messages in the past.  Any suggestions?  I have tired going into my various email accounts on the iphone and checking all of the deleted emails for each account.  I only found seven flagged messages.
    Much appreciation for any suggestions.
    Thanks!

    Hey OldCT!
I have a link here for you that may help you find your flagged messages a little more easily:
    See important messages - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3caefa61
Flag a message so you can find it later. Tap while reading the message. You can change the appearance of the flagged message indicator in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Flag Style. To see the Flagged mailbox, tap Edit while viewing the Mailboxes list, then tap Flagged.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • Is there a way to show only flagged email on iOS Mail?

I use Exchange 2007 at work with Outlook 2010.  I also use my iPad to connect to my company Outlook Web Access.  On the iPad I am able to mark a message as flagged.  I use the flag on a message to indicate that there's some action that I need to take on the email.  After I skim my inbox and flag all the emails with actionable items in them I go to my smart folder in Outlook which shows only my flagged messages so I can focus on those with actionable items.  I noticed on IOS Mail there does not seem to be such smart folders and there seems to be no way to view only messages which are flagged.
Can someone please explain how to do this on the iPad.  It is very important to me.  In fact, it's so important, that I would switch to Windows Phone platform just to have this one feature.
    Thanks!

I too would love to filter my inbox down to just flagged emails - I'm on iPad 3 with latest iOS, though it seems latest OS is not the problem, but rather a simple oversight in usability, and more important productivity.
On the note of productivity, why does it take SO MANY clicks to flag an email on iPad mail? Have to hit Edit > mark the email > Mark > Flag. I count three superfluous taps there. There should be a swipe action on the left (much like the swipe and Delete on the right hand side of the email heading) for flagging. And a simple little flag symbol at the top to hit when I want to see only flagged mails. Productivity should be the name of the game.
I also realise that venting in this forum probably isn't the best place for it...

  • I would like to see flagged emails on my iPhone

I flag emails on my Macbook Pro in various folders but I can not see them on my iphone.  Is there a way to have flagged folders appear on the iPhone please?

Strange as it works for me, I can flag a message on my Kindle Fire & a flag appears in the same email on the iPhone & visa versa.
I assume the account uses imap & not pop on all your devices so I can only suggest that when you Mark a message as flagged on another device that you refresh the same account on your iPhone (by pulling down the screen) to see if it appears: unless you already do that & it makes no difference.

  • Email notification in human task: How to customize email subject.

    Dear all community members,
I am using email notification service in human task to receive email notification if task is assigned to me. I have configured email notification in human task & I do receive the email in my inbox as assignee.
The default email subject is like [Action Required: TASK_TITLE], I want to remove this [Action Required:] from email subject.
I tried setting <%null%> in Notification Header in .task file but the email subject is still has Action Required.
