Flagging a photo - lost function

I used to be able to click in top right hand corner of a photo and it would flag it. Somehow I have lost this along with the star rating at the bottom left hand corner. Any suggestions as to what I can do to get these back. Thanks

This would be better posted in the Aperture forum.
But that said, you want View->Metadata Display->Viewer->Show Metadata (or Browser->Show Metadata).  Try the U and Y hotkeys (and when you can see data, hit shift-U and shift-Y to toggle beteen more and less data).

  • Is the Automate/Web Photo Gallery function gone from CS5?

I am currently operating a trial download of Photoshop CS5. I was surprised to see the "File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery" function missing from Photoshop CS5. Is that true, or has it been moved to another location?

    Jeffry, Chris Cox,
At our studio we use the Web Gallery with Feedback option for our clients to review images, make selections and comments.
I hope we don't lose access to this with an upgrade to CS5.
It seems to me that having that capability within Photoshop makes sense, but if it is being ported to Bridge I hope, at least, that it will be well supported (which it wasn't while in PS).
As a tool to support a user's web design, Flash has several drawbacks not the least of which is that it is opaque to search engine indexing bots.
One thing I would hope Adobe could fix in the Gallery with Feedback option is a problem in which if a client of ours is using the gallery to give feedback, even though they click "Save Feedback" on every image, if they close the gallery window, all comments and selections are lost. We had a client who was reviewing 400 images. She had gotten through close to 300 of them, saving feedback all along, when she decided to come back to the project a little later. Closing the browser window lost all of her comments and selections. Tools like this are important to our business relations with our clients and I would hope they would be integrated into Adobe's imaging products, but they shouldn't be an afterthought – they need to be well designed, user customizable, and up to date with web standards.

  • Sidebar missing from iCal in Lion - seeking a third party product to restore lost functionality

Apple has removed the sidebar, the always-on list of calendars that required no click.
The shallow popover that appears only when clicked — obscuring part of the calendar before disappearing — is to me (and some others) an unacceptable substitute for working with multiple calendars, especially where calendars are grouped across multiple servers.
I'm aware of third party alternatives to iCal. (Most full-featured calendar interfaces do have an always-on full-height list of calendars. Probably the best known alternative to iCal is BusyCal.)
This topic does not seek alternatives; I do wish to continue using iCal, albeit in a way that is less frustrating than what Apple forces upon users of 10.7.
    This topic seeks:
a third party product that will restore lost functionality to iCal.
To any developer who reads this topic: please, I beg you, on my knees, submit your iCal sidebar app — or whatever you wish to call it — to the App Store as soon as you can. I'll gladly pay, and more than gladly help to test any pre-Store development version.
Other readers please note: whilst I'm extraordinarily frustrated by Apple's design decision, this is not an invitation to rant. Let's gain something constructive from this discussion.
If you wish Apple to restore the sidebar to iCal, as an option, then please:
submit iCal feedback to Apple, with your use case; explain why for you personally the limited disappearing popover is a poor substitute; explain how the sidebar will improve both (a) your productivity and (b) your appreciation of Apple's software.
Side note: no category includes iCal, so I file this opening post under Using Mac OS X v10.7 Lion.
    Thank you
    Graham

    the new way
Many things in the new iCal are beautifully designed. I am certain that the new iCal will be enjoyed by people who use the new multi-session screen sharing for Mac OS on iOS (that should be a separate topic).
iCal's aqua popover default may be perfect for people who have only a handful of calendars.
    Critically
The new design fails completely to offer an always-on full-height list of calendars — invaluable when working with more than a handful of things.
The screenshot below, taken whilst evaluating BusyCal, shows a subset of my list of calendars (more than the average user, that's why an always-on list is so valuable). In shot: three accounts on a CalDAV server. I have other, lesser used accounts on other CalDAV servers. Also some use of Exchange servers. My own case is extreme but there's a guiding principle for a variety of use cases:
some users need to see the list of calendars all the time.
What's exmplified below has become impossible in iCal 5.0 (1535) in Mac OS X 10.7 (Build 11A511).
I plead with Apple, or a third party developer, to restore the sidebar list of calendars to iCal.
Apple's limitation is acceptable when the user has only two calendars —
    — but for some other classes of user, completely inappropriate.
The percentage of users troubled by the loss of functionality may be less than the percentage enjoying the popover, but that in itself does not reduce the trouble, the frustration.
The sidebar was present in 10.4, removed in 10.5. Many users of 10.5 complained.
The sidebar reappeared in 10.6. Removal in 10.7 is almost completely dumbfounding.
I would like to say, "give it time — the more you use it, the more it will be appreciated" but for me this is not true. For some weeks I tried to work with this build of iCal and the more I used it, the greater the frustration. I grew to avoid iCal.
In most ways the feature set of iCal is unequalled. Support for many standards is excellent. The removal of the sidebar is a blight on this brilliance.
I plead with Apple or a third party developer to fix this at the earliest opportunity. I want Apple iCal — but user-friendly, not crippled.

  • After Archive and Install, music and photos lost

    Hello, I installed Leopard yesterday on my Imac desktop and it went fine, but then somehow it locked me out of the hard drive, and then...the blue screen. I put the orginal Tiger disk back in and re-installed the previous software, opting for 'archive and install'. It worked but my question is this;
Within the previous system folder, my music and photos are still missing. All I see is the iphoto icon which opens to a completely empty program. (Yet the info on this Icon says it is a 1 gb in there). Are my photos lost, really? And if not, how may I retrieve them? Thanks in advance.

You may find it in the Previous System Folder created during an Archive and Install that contains your old system. Assuming you have no need for its contents you can delete the PSF and recover the disk space.
Of course if the hard drive is corrupted then you may have performed an Archive and Install on a corrupted drive which will result in a corrupted installation. Consider doing the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Why all gray in sidebar? Lost functionality!

I've just upgraded (? not convinced I'm seeing an improvement) from 10.6.8 to 10.9.3 and am very disappointed to see that everything in the sidebar is shown in shades of gray. I've used FolderBrander for many years to color code my finder folders and it was great that the folder colors also appeared in the sidebar in 10.6.8. I could group associated folders by color in the sidebar and that made for very rapid and accurate access deep into my folder architecture. I am mourning this lost functionality.
Could someone suggest how I could send this dissatisfaction along to Apple along with a request to restore colors to the sidebar?

As an update, that 3rd party program called SideEffects didn't continue to enable the colors in the sidebar to appear. What I find most interesting is that the original color designations ARE present, it's just that some additional code eliminates them from appearing. Seems like Apple should easily be able to give the user the option whether to stay with the insipid all gray theme with colored tags or to re-enable the highly functional display of colors in the sidebar in a window and in the sidebar in the "save as" windows. There's no reason that we couldn't have both the "tags" (apparently meant for people who don't use the folder hierarchy when saving files to enable them to rapidly find their files again) and the previous nicely colorful "labels". I see that the gray sidebar has been a complaint ever since OS 10.7 Lion, but that Apple hasn't fixed the issue through several major OS revisions..
I feel I've been punished for being very ordered in where I save files on my HD since I made extensive use of the tools provided by Apple in the past: I could color-group subdirectories on my HD within the sidebar to give me very quick access to different portions of the subdirectories I'd made within my Documents folder. I made less use of labels, but also found them to be superior to tags for how I do use them. I have found tags to be of no value to me, at the expense of the loss of something that was of value. I sure hope that Yosemite corrects this — but I’m beginning to have less faith that Apple is even listening to its customers — except for those who use the iOS and not the Mac OS.

  • Lost Functionality !!! Have both 3.6.13 and 4Beta 9,10,11

    Lost Functionality !!!
I installed a number of add-ons before installing Firefox 4 Beta 9 and now I have lost much functionality! I have tried to disable many of the add-ons.I even uninstalled 4 Beta 9 after the beta 10 upgrade was added and went back to 3.6.13 but to no avail.\I am afraid that I am going to have to uninstall the whole mess and start over but I am on a slow dial-up ISP and that is prohibitive because of time concerns. This is one of the main issues : I hover over most but not all links with the cursor and it highlights the link button but when I left click nothing happens and I have tried everything that I can think of so I do not know if it is one of the add-ons or a different problem. I will have to go through my back-ups and see if i have saved a copy of 3.6 somewhere unless someone has an answer to this issue

  • Locked flag (uchg) get lost when zipped

    Hello,
I have a source folder with a locked (uchg) file, which I zip and unzip. After unzipping the file isn't locked any more.
I ziped the file with: ditto -c -k --sequesterRsrc SourceFolder test.zip
I also tested some other zip tools for zipping and unzipping, having all admin rights, but the locked flag is always lost. I also tested other files.
I am not the Mac specialist, so
    1. Is this a standard behaviour? and I can't preserve the locked flag in a PKzip file?
    2. If it is not normal, what am I doing wrong, or how can I preserve the file flag in a zip file?
    Thank you for any hint
    Tiemo

You may be out of luck, this from the chflags man page:
Only a limited number of utilities are chflags aware. Some of these tools include
    ls(1), cp(1), find(1), install(1), dump(8), and restore(8). In particular a tool
which is not currently chflags aware is the pax(1) utility.
A quick Google shows that ditto is also not aware.

  • Flagging a photo makes it blurry?

For some reason, whenever I flag a photo in iPhoto '11, it becomes blurry when I try to view it.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there a fix??
And another problem I have had is when editing a photo, the ORIGINAL version is what seems to get uploaded to places like facebook and mobile me. I can't get the edited version to upload. I seriously WISH I could go back to iPhoto '09. I HATE iPhoto '11. :o(

Afraid I can't confirm that behaviour with the Flagging. Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
the ORIGINAL version is what seems to get uploaded to places like facebook and mobile me. I can't get the edited version to upload
    How are you uploading?
    Regards
    TD

  • After connect with Itunes,  choosing restore, then all the photos lost.

I bought a New Iphone5 and using it to took some photos.
then I connect with Itunes which provide me two options, I choosed the retore. after restore, all the photo lost. what can i do.

It can not do that all by itself.
When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
    You explicitly said 'Yes'.
    You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone.

  • My keyboard (wired) has lost functionality on the music PLAY/PAUSE, FORWARD and BACK, and VOLUME KEYS. They do NOTHING. All else is fine. How can I reassign them correctly? (Don't see those functions listed with System Settings/Keybard shortcuts).

    Crayolla,
Try doing a SMC and PRAM resets. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts for them to work so be a little persistent if they fail the first time.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Lost functionality with Leopard...

    Lost functionality with Leopard upgrade....
1 - AOL for Mac OS X (10.3.7) application: can't access email addresses when writing mail and can't attach files.
2 - Canon's MP Navigator (2.2.2) won't batch scan documents with MP830. Worked fine with Tiger.
3 - Can't mount USB hard drive attached to my airport extreme and when I try the extreme goes offline and I have to restart it.
How about you all. I only used 'em all the time.

    I have the same problem.
After upgrade from my Mac Pro to Mac OS X Lion yesterday, the same problem happened described by danhalli.
No  connection to the printer over 2101nw. The MAC gets all information if an other computer makes a connection to the print server, so the communication works,  however connection cannot be established.
There was no way to fix it. complete new installation from Printer Software or wireless  HP Print Server did not help.
Important:  all other computer in the network are working fine with the connection manager (MAC and Microsoft PC´s)
All MAC computer are working fine  with the SW 10.6.8 . The  SW 10.7.2 does not work I hope it will be fixed soon. If you can not print, it takes a lot of time !!!!

  • How can you restore photos lost during software update on iTunes?

How do you restore or even find photos lost during software update of iphone 4 on iTunes?

Why did you not back it up before performing the update? Did you perform the update on a computer other than the one you normally sync with?
As already stated, if you didn't back it up, the data is now gone.

  • Lost "Web Photo Gallery" Functionality!

I  have custom "Web Photo  Gallery"  templates that I have used for years to  present proofs to  clients in an .html web gallery. These are no longer funbctioning in CS5.  Using a third party solution is not an option unless it can use my  pre-existing custom layouts.  Running in 32bit mode defeats the purpose  of  upgrading  to the theoreticlly faster and more robust CS5 and does  not represent a useful solution. My intention  in upgrading was to speed  up my workflow. (And also leave behind CS4's eternally crashing  Bridge.)
In another thread it was explained that it is not  cost effective to correct this issue, but I feel misled. I was specifically told by sales that this  functionality  was  present. I should have been made aware that in order to work,  I  would need to quit out and reconfigure the software  to 32bit mode  each  time I wish to build a gallery; a solution that is no more helpful  than opening CS4 and building web galleries there.
I need some sort of definitive solution that does not slow my process.

I feel your pain about Adobe.. I guess it has become normal to lie to prospective clients or even recurring clients..

  • Photo booth functionality lost: where is the video/background replacement?

    Hi,
I used photo booth to replace the background with a video.
For the camera I use an isight camera.
but now in MAC 10.5.2 there IS NO BACKGROUND replacement.
It does not display the option to add the video to be used in background.
By the way there are only 2 pages or effects now...
where is the video/background functionality now in photo boot?
    thanks a lot

    Hello avalokitesvara
"2 pages or effects" is normal for us Dual G5 users.  Dual G5s can't use backgrounds (sometimes Apple calls them "backdrops" instead.)
Whether the background/backdrop is in iChat OR Photo Booth, a Mac with an Intel processor is required to use backdrops/backgrounds.
