Flagging a photo makes it blurry?

For some reason, whenever I flag a photo in iPhoto '11, it becomes blurry when I try to view it.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there a fix??
And another problem I have had is when editing a photo, the ORIGINAL version is what seems to get uploaded to places like facebook and mobile me. I can't get the edited version to upload. I seriously WISH I could go back to iPhoto '09. I HATE iPhoto '11. :o(

Afraid I can't confirm that behaviour with the Flagging. Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
the ORIGINAL version is what seems to get uploaded to places like facebook and mobile me. I can't get the edited version to upload
How are you uploading?

  • Photos get all blurry when switching between "100%" and "Fit to Screen"

    Hello,
I downloaded the Aperture 3 Testversion and I'm trying to create a new book. I managed to design all the pages but when I switch between the views the photos get all blurry until I zoom in and out of the photo.
I was wondering if anybody knows if it will affect the print out version and if I can do something that they aren't blurry when I get my copy?
    Thank you for your help.
    Tim

    I have also noticed this.
Click the print button in the book layout window.
In the print dialog, choose PDF>open pdf in Preview.
I presume this shows a reasonably accurate facsimile of how the images will appear when printed.

  • I pick a photo, make a copy, add a mask and when I use a brush nothing happens to the mask or the picture. White or black?

If I understand you correctly, you have
Opened an image, and copied the background layer.
Added a layer mask, and finding that painting in the mask makes no difference whether you paint with black or white.
That is what you would expect to happen if both layers are identical.  To demonstrate, make a change to the copied layer.  Either change the blend mode to Multiply, or lower the opacity, or paint big red stripes across it.  Now when you paint with black, the red stripes will disappear where the mask is black, and be visible where the make is white.

  • HT201272 Does anybody else have uploading issues with the FB cover photo maker app?

I purchased the FB cover photo maker from the app store, it has some glitches in it that close the app and you have to start over, but the frustrating part is that it won't upload the cover photo created to FB...............AAARRRGGGGG!

  • Help, I've transferred photos however photos are now blurry, they're no lon

I transferred my photos from several backup cd's and all photos prior to back up were crystal clear. I was using the faces feature as well in iphoto when I backed up pics in Sept 09. I had a hard drive failure in November and thanfully i had a backup cd. I reinstalled the photos and instead of my total 4000 or so pics, i have 27,000 photos, it seems like it's also counting the pics faces had stored as well. Most of the backed up photos are very blurry, they are no longer clear. Why has this happened? Can someone please explain this? I had the worst time trying to reinstall my library. I probably didn't do it correctly I'm assuming. Now I'm sitting here having to go through all 27,000 photos, trash any face closeups photos. SO incredibly annoying. Does anyone have any ideas? should I just bring my Mac in to genius bar and have them do it?

hi Terrence, I believe I made the back up using I believe iphoto. How do i just trash all the photos in my current library and restore from my back up dvd? I installed the dvd into my drive, it's name ilife sept 11, 2009 part 13. full backup, it's contents is 1 blue folder name CONTENTS. I double click it, it opens into 2 blue folders, names backup.catalog and the other blue folder is named CONTENTS. 2 white folders as well show up named backup.log.gz nad infoplist.strings. opening the backup.catalog blue folder yields 2 white attachments named CAT and Stat0. can't do anything with them.
I then click on blue folder contents. it's a backup.sparseimage size 4.44Gb, i double click on that, that opens and shows me ilife blue USERS folder, i double click, then blue USERS folder, double click, then i see 3 blue folders, LIbrary, MUSIC and PICTURES.

  • Imported photos showing up blurry in iPhoto

I recently switched from a PC to an iMac and dragged my photos from the "My Documents" folder on my external drive to the iPhoto program on my Mac. I opened iPhoto to look at my pix and noticed that some of them are a lot blurrier now than the last time I viewed them on my PC. This seems to be mostly with my older photos. Is there a reason for this, and is there some kind of setting I can use to get them back to normal (the way they looked on my PC)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny

importing a photo to iPhoto makes no changes - it just copies the photo so what you have in iPhoto is exactly what you had on your PC
a couple of possibilities to look at
1 - for large (high resolution) photos iPhoto displays a quick, sometimes fuzzy image and then completes loading the full image and the image clears - are you giving it time to fully display?
2 - is you iPhoto display larger than your PC display - if you have low resolution photos displaying them on a larger screen will let you see the pixels - making them "fuzzy"
3 - is there any chance you imported lower resolution sions of your photos? What is the resolution of one of the "fuzzy" photos - look in the info window on the lower left - if it is not there, click on the blue "i"

  • Why is the print lighter and the photos a little blurry when using Firefox?

It started on yesterday, Jan 4, 2012. With Firefox, the print is lighter and harder to read, and the photos, in general, seem unfocused/a little blurry unless you look real close. i didn't have that problem before switching over fro Safari.

Yes, just Safari. In Chrome, Firefox and all other applications it works as expected.

  • Font Smoothing makes everything blurry

I just tried Safari 3.1 beta for Windows Vista for the first time and found ALL levels of font smoothing to make my fonts blurry making it unusable. I use a 17" laptop lcd monitor and the "CRT" setting is the least blurry. Any way to turn this off completely?

They didn't fix the font problem?
HAHAHA. I posted about this, and submitted bug reports and they still didn't fix it?
Uh... why does version 3.01 not have this problem?
Wow. It boggles the mind. I'm not going to install 3.1 if the fonts look fine in 3.01.
I'm very unhappy with this development. What a joke.

  • How can I improve the quality of a photo that appears blurry when used in iMovie but not in iPhoto?

A 320 x 240, 35 KB Jpeg file looks crisp and in focus in iPhoto.  But as soon as I put it into iMovie and hit full screen, it's blurry and looks terrible.  A photo taken with my Nikon D7100, a 3872 x 2582, 2.5 MB Jpeg photo translates to the big screen just fine, with perfect clarity.  How can I use this former picture but increase its clarity when it's magnified in iMovie?

Apologies for opening this up again:
I rasterised and embedded the photos, liked what I saw and marked the question as answered, then I zoomed out and lo! The white jaggedy edges are back! This is despite the fact I rotated them to vertical before rasterising them.
It appears that the pixels in the rasterised image are relative to the screen, not relative to the object... so when I rotate the photo it goes back to the original hi-res photo and re-rasterises it to fit the new orientation.
Also doing this has not lowered the filesize at all... It does appear that when you rasterise an image in Illustrator, the new raster is only a veneer, the original (hi-res photo) is still lurking in the background.

  • After editing, photos now look blurry

The photos out of my digital SLR camera were really crisp right after upload to iPhoto; but after straightening and using the editing tools while in full screen mode, the photos now look a little blurry. Any ideas?

    Hi all,
    I've noticed the same problem.
But clearly this blur does not affect the picture files as they are saved on your disk. It's probably just a question of optimized display when looking at pictures in iPhoto.
Take a crisp image, import it into iPhoto. Now simply crop it a bit (you don't even need to rotate it !). When looking at it in full screen, it will now look much softer than the original one, you can check this by pressing the shift key. But now press "1" to see it at 100% : your image is not blurred, it's just badly displayed !
Same problem when simply opening an image in Preview.app -- since leopard there are some fancy zoom animations, but images look indeed very soft at everything but 100%
Hope they will fix this soon, It's frustrating to look at softened images from a marvelous camera ...

  • How do i make a blurry circle border?

    hi there,
i have a "flashback" sequence to my film and i want to add a circle border and make it kind of blurry.
this type of effect is often used in documentaries, etc.
any ideas on how do to do this?
    thanks!
    steven

A simple way is to use the Vignette filter in Stylize. Pull Darken down as much as you like. Adjust Blur, Falloff, and Size to taste.

  • Flagging a photo - lost function

I used to be able to click in top right hand corner of a photo and it would flag it. Somehow I have lost this along with the star rating at the bottom left hand corner. Any suggestions as to what I can do to get these back. Thanks

This would be better posted in the Aperture forum.
But that said, you want View->Metadata Display->Viewer->Show Metadata (or Browser->Show Metadata).  Try the U and Y hotkeys (and when you can see data, hit shift-U and shift-Y to toggle beteen more and less data).
