Flags are local to collections?!?

ok, i find this pretty weird: if you're browsing a collection and set a flag on a photo (pick or reject), then change to a different collection or to "All Photographs", that same photo you just flagged is flagged no longer! shouldn't flags be a global attribute of a photo, just like colors, or stars? Or is this a feature?
This behaviour makes flags rather useless for me, since i usually organize my shots into collections before sorting through them and picking out the ones i don't need. I then browse the collection when i have time, rejecting photos that didn't turn out, but when browsing a collection, "Delete rejected photos" simply removes the photos from the collection, and there's no way to permanently delete them (remove them completely from the library and the hard drive). Anyway, i find this pretty annoying...

You work the way you want to work, of course, but one way to deal with the issue would be use labels or some other filter ( colors) and make your selections from a filtered list before saving into a collection. It seems as though once in a collection, most selection activities are only relative to the collection, not absolute.
The intent of the program designers was apparently to have collections be the result of filtering, not the means.

  • Flags are "local" - why?

As already mentioned in other articles, flags in Lr are said to be "local". Not like color labels or keywords, flags belong to "photo instances" rather than photos.
In other words: If I flag a photo looking at it through a collection, the same photo is not flagged when navigating through folders. Why?
I like to switch forth and back through different views of my photos (e.g. Last Import, Quick Collection) but why can't I use flags in such a workflow?

What I tried to do was marking photos as "rejects" in order to later phisically delete them.
I choose a subset of photos to process from my "Last Import" container and created a quick collection. I then marked some pictures as "rejects" (while in quick collection). At the very end, I tried to delete all rejected photos but - since I was looking at a quick collection - there was just a remove but no delete command available.
So I switched back to "Last Import" view and now all my rejects were gone...

  • Flags are collection dependent (as opposed to rating). Rationale?

In I collection, I've flagged several pictures as "rejected" with the intention to filter them and, later on, to delete them. When I add a rejected picture to another collection, in the new collection the picture is "unflagged". It seems that the flagging status is not metadata. Thus, flagging behaves different from rating.
    What's the rationale behind this?

What you are seeing is by design.  The rationale is that flags are local whereas ratings and labels are global. That is to say, flags only apply within the folder or collection in which they were applied. Flags are not treated as metadata and have no meaning beyond Unflagged, Pick or Reject. Flags cannot be written to the file and are therefore visible in other applications (e.g. Bridge).

  • Flags are not definable

Flags do not stay as selected in version 1.3. Can this be changed tomake the flags hold their chosen designation?

Your problem is not very clear, please elaborate. How are you using the Flags and where? What do you expect to see?
Flags are local to a Folder or Collection. Change where you are and the Flags can change. This is by design. Go back to the same Folder or Collecion and the Flags you did there will be the same.

  • Need some help archiving and photos that are in multiple collections.

After creating a new catalog for photos from a collection, I'd want to remove the photos from Lightroom and keep on disk.  In the collection, there are some photos that are in multiple other collections and I'd want to keep those images in their other collections and so not removed them from Lightroom.
Need some advice on how to easily identlfy those images that are in other collections and thus might not want to remove those images from Lightroom.

Well, Bob, that works, but agreeing with Geoff, I don't think this is the best solution to the problem; in fact I don't even think this is a good solution to this problem.
If there isn't a lot of space left, and the user wants to do something about the photos in those collections, then the photos should be moved (in Lightroom, or via this process: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm) to a different drive. This generates more free space on the SSD drive. The photos remain in the Lightroom catalog, and they remain in the multiple collections that they are in now.
MrhoniKeith -- your photos probably should not go on the SSD in the first place. Photos ought to be stored on a normal hard drive, not an SSD. You can move them to a regular hard drive en masse, freeing up plenty of space on the SSD via this method: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm. This is the BEST solution to your problem -- keep everything in a single catalog, with photos on a normal hard disk. The idea of having multiple catalogs to help free up space on one drive works opposite to the best practices of using Lightroom, in which most people recommend using a single catalog for all of your photos, except in special cases where the photo's contents are completely non-overlapping, for example Personal and Business catalogs.
Removing photos from some collections but not others will NOT free up space. That's not how Lightroom works. Lightroom has not made multiple copies of your photos for each collection. Deleting photos from collections will NOT free up space.

  • "Flags" are disappearing

I've posted a CS Review to my client. When I address the comments the client makes and go to "Flag" and mark them as "Done" and "Save" then close the review, when I re-open the review my "Flags" are gone. The client comments are still there but not my response. This is how I keep track of what's been corrected and what hasn't.

Had the issue since upgrading to 10.9.
I am running the 10.9.1 update released today.
    POP Yahoo email.
I also tired recreating several of the rules (after deleting the existing ones) and, still no luck.
I fail to understand how apple can not fix this as it's been broken since the mavericks release of 10.9. Numerous people have filed bug reports, yet, still rules (a key functionality in Mail), remains broken.
Perhaps apple might be able to fix this before 2014 :)

    Hi All
I wanted to know "How are local and state taxes setup/updated when employee's address changes . - How is it done in SAP? -
    Thanks in Advance

This defeats the purpose of trying to centralize SAP-related web resources on the SAP server. Typically IIS/Apache or other non-SAP servers are under the control of IT and not the SAP BASIS group.
We simply would like to have a centralized location to store static web files so that they are not overwritten during Portal support pack applications.

  • What are .localized files?

What do the 0 byte files named ".localized" do? I've found this explanation online:
"In Mac OS X folders name is always the same, regardless of the localization, but the Finder has the ability to show some names in a localized form.
The ".localized" are 0 bytes file stored in several folders, this placeholder tells the Finder that the folder is a "localizable" folder."
which doesn't really help me! Are they simple bookmarks which tell Finder that the files are stores locally, and can therefore be displayed and handled differently from remote files?

The '.localized' files just indicate (by their presence) that apps should display the "localized" name for a given folder if one has been defined. So for example, instead of the folder names that 'ls' would show as "Library" or "Users", someone with their language set to "French" in the "International" pref pane would see "Bibliothèque" or "Utilisateurs" in "Finder" or through "Open" and "Save" dialogues.
This can sometimes cause confusion - for example, a person once posted that they accidentally renamed their "Public" folder, but after changing it back, other users could no longer access their folder over the network. It turns out that the person had a non-English language setting, and had renamed the folder back to the visible "localized" name, which had the effect of changing the folder's actual name from "Public" to something else. Since they were translating everything to post to this site, it took a while before everything was sorted out...

  • Non-Deployed Applications in OSD Task Sequence Are Deployed To Collection Members where OSD TS is deployed

    Hello,
I have a situation where an application (which is not deployed) that is part of an OSD Task Sequence is being deployed to computers that are in the same collection my TS for OSD is deployed.
For OSD I have created an application to check the BIOS version and upgrade the BIOS if there is a newer one available. The application has numerous deployment types (13) due to various hardware models and the requirement to go to several intermediary BIOS
versions to reach the current newest version. There are dependencies configured to handle these incremental bumps.
The OSD TS is deployed to a collection that contains all windows desktop class operating systems. What I have seen happen once is that one users workstation somehow discovered and installed the BIOS Upgrade package and their BIOS was upgraded on their workstation.
I've checked the logs on several other machines and this same application has been run as well.
The application is configured "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Applications
task sequence action without being deployed" which allows it to be ran from a TS even though it is not deployed.
I have verified the application is not deployed. I have verified there are no superceedence rules configured. As I stated, there are dependencies, but all dependencies are within this one application.
What I do not understand is, how can an application that is not
deployed and is only referenced in an Operating System Deployment Task Sequence able to be ran outside the task sequence?
This is/has occurred with computers imaged with cm2012 and with computers imaged with cm2007 who have now been migrated to cm2012.
I'm fairly sure that it is due to the task sequence and where it is advertised. Computers that are not in this collection do not show the application being applied in the AppEnforce.log. If it is the TS that is causing this, how can something that is designed
to be a "sequence of tasks", allow something to occur out of that sequence?
    Current environment is CM2012R2.
Any thoughts to what might be happening?
    Thanks

    Hello,
After working with Microsoft Support, we were able to resolve the issue.
Turns out there was something (old policies) "stuck" in the SCCM database that was causing this to be advertised outside the task sequence and not visible on the console. While they didn't call this "a bug" since it has happens with CM2007 as well, it definitely
was not normal behavior. Still not sure how that could happen as I'm 99.99% sure I never deployed this to any collection, but that's what they said.
It took several hours of support rooting through the database to figure out what was going on but after some SQL magic it was fixed. Sorry I don't have more specifics regarding the fix. MS basically said "If it happens again you can do this this and this
in the db and voila its fixed". Since I'm likely to cause more damage (messing with the database) then good if it were to happen again I'd contact them.
Anyway, this odd behavior has spooked me and I've reverted back to deploying the TS to the unknown computer collection. As much as it disappoints me to take a step back and cause more work for the guys doing the imaging, the extra safety this grants (if
something like this or worse were to happen) I think is better than an OSD task sequence gone wild.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

If i buy a Unlocked iphone 4s and use it in another country, will it work with the countrys Local data Services

    hi guys,
i recently bought a new iphone 4s factory unlocked. in order to avoid sim failures and invalid sim errors or No service errors, Each phone has to be unlocked by connecting it to the Itunes.
Kindly follow the below steps to avoid any SIM card conflicts
iPhone FULL Unlock - How it Works:
-Connect your iphone to itunes without any network sim inside and when connected click on the iphones name.
    - Click Restore install latest version of iTunes on your Pc or Mac or click check for updates
    - Let itunes Backup your phone and then Flash to the Latest Version.
    - Now disconnect phone and reconnect after 10 seconds.
    - Now Enter another network simcard that's not the same network its locked on to
    - Connect phone to iTunes with not accepted (not valid) simcard
    - Wait until iTunes detects the phone
    - iTunes will display (Congratulations, Your iPhone is now unlocked)
    - Phone Unlocked
    - just follow the instructions about activating the Iphone.
    and iphone is unlocked
NOTE : This is the only FULL LIFE TIME UNLOCK solution for Apple iPhone as the IMEI is registered as UNLOCKED in Apple database.
This solution should be used ONLY THOSE WHO BOUGHT FACTORY UNLOCKED iPHONE 4S.
Your phone will always be unlocked even after each new update of your phone firmware !
All reasons given like bad IMEI series, manufacturing defects etc blah blah are not logical as everything was tested before every sale.

  • Are Local Self Signed Certificates Supported for Exch 2010

    Hello,
We have Exch 2010 and CUP 8.6.2.
Trying to find out if local self signed certificate (without signed by internal or external CA) are supported?
    Thanks
    James

Never mind. I figured it out.
First of all, my Xserve certificate did not have the full FQDN, just a convenient subset. I created another self-signed cert with the true FQDN. I saw some hints around the web saying that Mail.app will always complain if the DN does not match.
Second, it turns out that Keychain Access is where the local certs live, and in Tiger I needed to drag the cert to my Desktop, open it, and store it in the x509 section.
All is good. Now to see how my iPhone likes the new certs...

  • In my collection I have 500 pictures. In the folder that contains those pictures I have 1000. How do I get the ACTUAL folder to ONLY have the 500 that are in the collection?

I'll try and make it clearer ... I appreciate the help!
I have a folder on my computer labeled "Wedding Photos."
I imported that into Lightroom. It had 1000 photos
Once I imported it, I made a collection called "Wedding" and put those 1000
    photos into the collection.
Then, in the collection, I went through the process of marking the photos.
I marked 500 as rejected. But instead of deleting them COMPLETELY from
Lightroom AND the hard drive, I only deleted them from the LR catalog.
So, now I have a collection "Wedding" with 500 photos and a folder "Wedding
    Photos" with 1000 photos.
I only want the 500 photos in the "Wedding Photos" FOLDER.
Two things ... first, if you use Lightroom to move the un-rejected photos from "Wedding Photos" to some other folder, then you have remaining in the "Wedding Photos" folder only those photos which were rejected and deleted from Lightroom, but not deleted from the hard disk.
Secondly, there is absolutely no reason to import all the photos from a folder and then create a collection with the exact same photos. This is redundant. It is extra work for no benefit. Since the folder and collection now contain exactly the same 1000 photos, you only need the folder. Anything you want to do with these photos can be done from the folder, as if the collection didn't exist (which it shouldn't in this case).
