Flakey internet causes Mail to forget all cached mail

Whenever I'm on a slow/flakey link, Mail decides that all of my cached mail is invalid, and then wants to download it all (~10,000 emails) again. This is very annoying, since it does it at least once a week whenever I'm traveling.
It's driven my sister to abandon using Mail at all.
And, annoying, but wouldn't be a problem except that Mail keeps redownloading my emails, the "take all accounts offline" button is a toggle, so you can't just frob it and have Mail stop trying to talk to all of the servers.

I waited until Mail dropped my emails again, tried the suggestion.
Whacking com.apple.mail.plist did cause Mail to forget all of my accounts, but thankfully not my rules and signatures.
However, it didn't keep mail from dropping half my cached mail a week later.
Luckily my current link isn't quite as flakey as it could be, despite being in Iraq for the next several months.

  • Extracting e-mail addresses from all received mail

    Hello,
We recently ran a competition on our web page and received approaching 5,000 submissions.
We need a way to collate a list of all the mail addresses of the people who replied.
The option in Window/Previous Recipients only applies to mail you have sent and not mail you have received.
Is there a way to export a list of received mail addresses?
    Many thanks,
    Ben

I wouldn't say there is no way...
    Select all the messages;
    Choose "Save As...";
    Choose "Raw message source";
This saves a text file archiving all the selected messages. You can get the addresses from this file. One way is:
    In Terminal, type
    grep "^From " nameof_archived_messagesfile > ~/Desktop/listofsenders
(Ignore the colors in that text.) You can fill in the nameof_archived_messagesfile by dragging the file from the Finder and dropping it into the Terminal window. A text file named listofsenders should appear on your Desktop. It will contain a list of senders (along with some other junk). There are ways to refine this procedure, but I hope this will get you started.

  • Mail not downloading all e-mails from hotmail

    Hi,
I have a MacBook pro 15inch running latest updates on OSx lion. I am having a real problem with mail application and my hotmail account. I have setup the hotmail account in mail and it downloads any new mails I receive but it does not sync any of the sent mails.
I also have an iPad which I use to send and receive emails and every time I reply someone using the iPad, there is no record of it on my mac if I replied to that person or not. Whereas if I reply to anyone using the mac, iPad shows all sent mails in sent folder.
Another problem I had (which is not currently main issue) is that occasionally it asked to put your password in for iCloud and hotmail account even if i check save to keychain.
Is there any way I can get my mac to sync all folders from my hotmail to mac? iPad does it with no problem..
    Thanks in advance:)

I'm having the same issue and have tried deleting the account and adding again but I only have emails that came in yesterday after Mavericks installed. My thousands of emails from the server did not load. They are everywhere else but on the updated Mavericks computer.

  • Can the iPhone only pull inbox mail and not all unread mail?

Yahoo correctly filters my mail into inbox and spam. The iPhone pulls ALL unread mail rather than just that from the inbox. Anyway to fix this?

What is unread except for what is in your Inbox mailbox?
Are you accessing a free Yahoo account with the iPhone's Mail client, and did you use the Yahoo account preset when creating your Yahoo account?
If so, the Yahoo account preset on an iPhone creates the account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail client. With an IMAP account, the email client used to access the account keeps all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized with the server. All messages received by the account, and available in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server, will be available in the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client - which keeps the mailbox synchronized with the server. If spam is received at the server and is available in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server, the same messages will be available in the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client. This is how an IMAP account works.
With a POP account, any messages that remain in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server will be downloaded when accessing the account with a new email client, and will be shown as unread when downloaded by a new email client used to access the account. This is also normal for a POP account when accessing the account with a new email client.
The iPhone's Mail client does not included a spam filter. Even if it did, new messages received at the server and available in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server will be downloaded - spam and all - which is the same for any email client.

  • In Mac Mail 7.1 How do you stop incoming mail from showing all related mail. The link at the top doesn't do the trick.

When I receive an email every single mail that has the same subject shows up in the inbox as a separate email. It is very confusing when you see a bunch of emails and have to try to figure out the actual order. The point is that I simply do not want to see all the other emails in the same window. All I want to do is read the current email. And if that particular email has any previous emails in the email thats OK but what is happening is you see the related email twice. This was not occurring in the previous version. The botton on the top that says Hide Related Emails does not work continuously. I am using Maverick.

  • TS3899 Why do I receive e-mails but not all the mail are indicated, the rest say they have been read when they haven't

My wife & I have an Ipad each, & both of us have the same problem. When we have received our e-mails only certain ones give notice of arrival, & the rest go straight to trash. How can we stop this. I can't find any settings to alter it & this is a problem as most are wanted.Thanks.

What you have there is either a jailbroken unit with some crazy custom UI or an eastern knockoff. Give us some photos of the ipad itself, mainly the back and some experts can help.
If you plug it into iTunes does iTunes even acknowledge that an ipad is connected? If it does then try a restore.
Failing that, head down to an apple store and see what they can do for you.

  • Mail service rejecting all external mail

I am running Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 and when I began setting up the mail services I was able to get internal mail working just fine, however, any messages sent from external sources are rejected. The sender receives a permanent delivery failure message: The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 <emailaddress>: Recipient address rejected: undeliverable address: User unknown (state 14). I should note that I am using DynDNS's Mailhop Relay service, but that appears to be working normally as I can see the connections from the mailhop servers in my SMTP log.
I have tried disabling greylisting as posted in other threads to no effect. I have disabled filtering of any kind, still to no effect. At this point, I'm not sure what else to try, as at this point I'm in a little over my head.
Any assistance would be most appreciated, thanks.

I finally figured it out. My SMTP security settings were being mis-reported by Server Admin. The server was requiring authentication from approved mail servers when it wasn't supposed to.

  • Not getting all my mail on the iphone

Last week my iphone stopped receiving my email. There are some messages there, but not all. All of them are from yesterday and I can tell you that I have about 20 unread messages in my account, but only 6 are there (all from yesterday). I can send email - I sent myself a test message and it went out, but I haven't received it yet. Any ideas?

    Hi Carolyn,
I did to that first before posting the forum. The issue is that I get some mail, but not all my mail, and there are no errors. The pattern I see is that all my mail seems to come to my phone when I am on the job site. But not in all parts of my job site. And I only get some messages at my home as well.
Receiving all my messages has worked since I set the phone up (several months ago) and then about two weeks ago i only get some messages not all my mail. There is no rhyme or reason.
I will probably blow away my mail account and set up fresh, but wanted to check with the forum users to see if there might be someone else who has experienced and what the solution might be.

  • Apple Mail won't retrieve new mail from Yahoo IMAP

I've been using Apple Mail with my Yahoo/Rogers account via IMAP for months with no problems.
Starting a few weeks ago, new mail in the Yahoo Inbox does not get delivered to Apple Mail.
I know there's lots of new mail - I logged into mail.yahoo.com with Safari, and see lots of unread messages in the inbox.
It's not a password problem.  The Connection Doctor shows 'green':  access to both the IMAP and SMTP servers is successful.
I have many other IMAP folders configured, and they all sync fine between Yahoo and the Mac.
Apple Mail is configured to use imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993 with SSL.
    I've tried:
    - rebooting the iMac.
    - quitting/restarting Apple Mail
    - taking account offline, then back on-line.
    - Ctrl-clicking on the Inbox and forcing it to Synchronize "Yahoo Mail".
    - calling Apple. I spent an hour on the phone with a pleasant tech there. He concluded it's a Yahoo problem.
I found one thing that fixed it temporarily: last week I deleted my e-mail account from Apple Mail. Of course, this deleted all my mailboxes in Apple Mail. Years of messages vanished.  Then I quit Mail, restarted it, and configured it anew with my Yahoo account credentials.  Mail then proceeded to log on to the Yahoo server and sync everything over IMAP. It took quite a while (over an hour), but eventually everything in my Inbox, Sent folder, and a couple dozen folders ('mailboxes') of saved messages reappeared. Including all the unread mail that had been waiting on the Yahoo mail server.
That was a week ago, and my Apple Mail inbox had receiving new e-mail with no problems until two days ago. Once again, new incoming messages are not getting synced. This 'fix' (delete all messages and resync from scratch) is not a practical solution.
    Any ideas?
(iMac has 10.8.5. Mail is 6.6)

    @riiich,
As I last reported, I temporarily 'fixed' it by deleting the account from Apple Mail and creating it again. Thanks to IMAP, Mail then synced all the mail folders (took a couple of hours - I have a lot of mail folders), and then it was working again.  For a few days.  Then the problem returned - new mail arriving in my Yahoo Inbox would not sync to the Inbox in Apple Mail.
I spent hours trying to resolve it. Changed password. Rebuilt Mail's index. Ran Disk Utility on my hard drive. Etc. Etc. I have a lot of server-side folders (>30), and thought that maybe Apple+Yahoo were screwing up due the large number of folders (a.k.a. mailboxes) to sync.  So I migrated a lot of the folders off the server (setting up new mailboxes On The Mac) in which to file my messages.  That didn't help. Meanwhile, I started using Yahoo's webmail interface so I could get my new mail.  Then one morning (perhaps a week later), the inbox spontaneously started syncing again. I had done nothing the day before - it just started working overnight.
Based on this experience, I concluded that the F***-up is entirely on the Yahoo side and has nothing to do with my Mac nor Apple's software. My ultimate fix has been to abandon Yahoo Mail.  Prior to Christmas, I moved my mail account to another service provider who provides IMAP. Then configured my Yahoo account to forward all incoming mail to the new server (which has a new e-mail address). Since doing so, I've had zero problems. All messages sent to my old Yahoo address get immediately forwarded to the new mail server, which has been syncing to Apple Mail with no problems at all.

  • Can't receive yahoo mail on iPhone6 using Apple mail client.

I stopped receiving yahoo mail on my Apple iPhone6 using Apple's mail client.  All other mail works ok.  I have deleted the account and re-added it, as well as rebooted my phone several times.  Any suggestions?

  • Mail - recovery - and the e-mails are gone

well - it is a bit of a story. had set up several e-mail accounts but unfortunately one double (i.e. all e-mails to this account twice in mail). have move all e-mails from one inbox to the other of this account. In addition I have moved older e-mails from folder "imported" into the inbox of the e-mail account and/or into Inbox. Looked all good but whilst trying to open some of the moved e-mails I could not get the content (i.e. e-mail topic was there but couldn't open/read the content in the e-mail body).
Let the recovery/restore option run in mail for a while and the result is.....
    - only 940 e-mails left (used to be roughly 9500)
    - most of the e-mails in the e-mail account folder have disappeared
    - however - I can now read and open all remaining e-mails even if they are from the older ones and moved
Can someone explain to me what happened using this recovery/restore function ?
Where are the e-mails gone - have they been deleted completely without any warning?
    Thanks for any insight :-)))
    Robert

If you haven't done so yet, set up Mail to access your gmail account via IMAP, not POP. With an IMAP set up, deleting messages from your gmail web site is a two step process. First, delete any messages you no longer want in Mail.app. Then pull down the "mailbox" menu and use the "erase deleted messages" and select your gmail.com account.

  • I cannot receive email properly now. When I open mail, it says that is downloading about 1,700 emails. At the very end, it gives me my newest ones. But this takes a long time. I've contacted the Internet service provider and verified all the right setting

I cannot receive email properly on either my IPad or my IPhone. I have had them for over a year and they have always worked fine. Until three days ago, when they both started acting up. On the IPad, when I open mail, it says it is downloading about 1,700 emails. At the very end, which takes quite a while to get to, I finally get the most recent ones. The IPad is sending emails just fine.
On my IPhone, when I open mail, it says it is downloading 100 emails, but it doesn't do that. And it gives me no new emails at all. The IPhone is sending email just fine.
I have already deleted the email accounts on both devices and reinstalled them. I've contacted the Internet service provider and verified all the right settings. The Outlook email on my desktop is working perfectly.

WMV is a heavily-compressed format/CODEC, and the processing time will depend on several factors:
Your CPU, which is not that powerful in your case
Your I/O sub-system, which is likely a single HDD on your laptop
The source footage. What is your source footage?
Any Effects added to that footage. Do you have any Effects?
Each of those will have an impact on the time required.
The trial has only one main limitation - the watermark. Now, there are some components, that have to be activated, but are not with the trial, but they would be evident with Import of your source footage, if it's an issue.
    Good luck,

  • IOS 8.1 Does Not Download All iCloud Mail/ Keeps Cache?

    Hello,
I have setup and enabled an iCloud e-mail account on all of my devices and was successfully able to use the Mail app in Mac OS X Yosemite to copy mail from my Yahoo! inbox to my iCloud inbox.  All e-mail copied from Yahoo! Mail appears in the OS X Yosemite Mail app as well as in the iCloud.com site, however, my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5 both running iOS 8.1 does not download all of the mail from iCloud.  I have tried the following on both iOS 8.1 devices with no success.
    - Disable iCloud mail and re-enable
    - Sign completely out of iCloud and sign in again, then reconfigure all iCloud services including mail
The result of both steps is that the incomplete list of e-mail in the iCloud inbox just reappears in the Mail app instead of downloading from iCloud again.  It looks like the incomplete list of e-mail is stored on the iOS device and signing out of or disabling iCloud mail just hides it; re-enabling or signing in merely shows it again.  This appears to work differently than my Yahoo! Mail configuration where if I sign out of or delete the Yahoo! account and reconfigure, iOS downloads a fresh copy of all e-mail in the inbox and all other folders.  Here are my two questions:
    - How do I get my iPhone and iPad Air 2 to download ALL e-mail from my iCloud mail account?
    - Are my suspicions true? Does iOS actually store a cached copy of iCloud mail on the device when the service is disabled and just "redisplays" it when re-enabled?
    Thanks!

I had the same problem. My iCloud it's a mess since the iOS 8.1 update.
Probably your iCloud isn't working too.
