Flar Image

Our IT/CIS section made a .Flar backup (Image) of a SunFire V440 with OS 'Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC'
and want to port this image to a new M3000 server, but after the installation/setup and a final reboot it gives the next error:
Rebooting with command: boot
krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic – boot: exitto64 returned from client program
Program terminated
?? missing patches.
(We can't connect live to the internet)
Somebody any ideas?

This machine (your M3000) is not certified for Solaris 10 Update 3.
The minimum version is Solaris 10 Update 6.

  • Solaris 10 .flar image - ready-to-use?

    Hello, All!
    I'm looking for Solaris 10 (freferrably 10/08) .flar image for installation into zone (as described here: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/branded_zones_flash.jsp), just the same as it does exist for Solaris 8 and 9 (here: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/containers/getit.jsp)
    And yes, I do know how to create flar image of existing system - http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-5241/flash-53?l=en&a=view -- I'm just interested in "clean", not so used Solaris 10 system.
    Thanks,
    Olga.

    Hi Sid,I have tried the installation using same link.I was successful in creating the zone configuration but unable to install the zone using flarimage

  • Jumpstart installation of flar image fails

    Guru's,
    During night time I make a flar image of the local disk of a SF480. I also created a jumstart server (Solaris 10 03/05) so I would be able to restore this image on the 480. So far not very special, I think. Now comes the difficult part: the flar image of the 480 is an image of a mirrored disk (svm). For Solaris 9 I used a postinstall script to fix the svm files like mddb.tab, vfstab etc. to mount the original slices. After the installation of a Solaris 9 image everything was ok. When I try to do the same trick on Solaris 10 the whole procedure goes fine until the boot process reports:
    Hostname: rusland
    ERROR: svc:/system/filesystem/root:default failed to mount /usr (see 'svcs -x'
    for details)
    [ system/filesystem/root:default failed fatally (see 'svcs -x' for details) ]
    Requesting System Maintenance Mode
    (See /lib/svc/share/README for more information.)
    Console login service(s) cannot run
    Root password for system maintenance (control-d to bypass):
    I did check the slice with fsck from a cdrom but there were no errors.
    Even when I try to boot with ok> boot -m milestone=none the console services don't start. Does anybody have an idea what the problem is? I think I'm pretty close but I'm probably missing a (hopefully small) part. Thanks in advance.

  • Can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?

    Team,
    Please help me for a confusion that can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?
    We have very good flar image of solaris 10 and want to install same on other machine.
    this machine hosting the Oracle database on it.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Generally speaking, as long as you are in the same processor family (4u, 4m, 4c, 4v etc) you can do so.
    The caveat is that the OS has to support the particular model you are on. No worries with S10 though.

  • Cannot create solaris 10 zone with flar archive

    Hello,
    i'm trying to configure a solaris zones with a flar archive of a solaris 10 system.
    i've followed the procedure described here : http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/branded_zones_flash.jsp
    whenever i try to create a zone and use: set brand=solaris10 the commit will fail with Unknown brand Missing document.
    solaris version is Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC and i have both the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 container software installed.
    is there another way to install a zone with the native brand or solaris 10 using an archive of some sort?
    kind regards,

    Thanks,
    I've figured as much as using a whole root zone but i still struggle with the configuration of a solaris10 brand and the creation of a zone config with that brand.
    I might be bettor of installing the zone without the flar image and try to copy the needed files and applications to the zone.
    I only need the solaris10 brand zone to test the flar image so i can use it to restore the system with flar and jumpstart.

  • Flash or imaging solaris with directory server

    Hi,
    I don;t know weather it is "doable" or not and im not sure weather this question belong to directory server or solaris OS question.
    This is about OS imaging, but with directory server. Reason, i have to build 10 servers with directory server in it.
    Did anybody install directory server on a solaris machine and image that server?
    can i use the same image to create rest of the servers?
    Appriciate any thoughts / suggestions
    -S-

    Don't ask me exactly how but flash/flar/imaging is exactly that a complete system image. So you could do this but you will end up with 10 identical - i.e. hostname, IP , nodename - servers.
    If it's worth the effort I'd suggest putting the JES components that you need, with SILENT install templates etc, into a jumpstart configuration. Then jumpstart/install each server and run the silent installs with appropriate hostname configurations, I've seen this entirely automated but it takes some work
    If this is the only time you're EVER going to do this I'd say you're on the verge of the time worth it versus not stage, if you see the need to do this again in future I'd say it is worth the time investment.
    You may consider just using jumpstart with appropriate installation bits to get each server OS going and manually install the Directory.

  • Solaris 8, 9 and 10 Security Files

    Good Morning:
    I am hoping that someone out there can confirm the following scenario:
    I want to use a standardized set of security files for all my operating systems Solaris 8, 9, and 10. The files from Solaris 10 and are listed below:
    /etc/default/passwd
    /etc/default/login
    /etc/security/policy.conf
    The questions I have are as follows:
    1. With the understanding that some of the security features may not work in Solaris 8 or Solaris 9, is there a problem in using these files across the all Operating systems?
    2. Are there any known issues with this approach?
    Mark K.

    Lars,
    Use ldmp2v to convert existing physical server to VM  and
    Convert Solaris 8 and 9 physical servers to container in Solaris 10 VM?
    Is that what you are saying?
    Major constraint I have is, applications running in the current physical servers have no vendor support, vendor doesn't exist any more. Application has been locked to run only on the same OS version. What I am worried is, while running ldmp2v should not prevent the application coming up in the new virtualized environment. Keeping that in mind, I gave a thought like
    1. Install and configure the CDOM (control domain)
    2. configure and Install LDOMs with Solaris 10 OS
    3. Run flar on the existing Solaris 10 physical server
    4. Transfer the flar created to Solaris 10 LDOM and configure it as a zone
    5. For Solaris 8 and 9, create LDOMs with Solaris 10 OS
    6. Install additional patches and packages needed for supporting Solaris 8 and 9 zones
    6. create flar images on the existing Solaris 8 and 9 physical servers
    7. transfer the images to newly created LDOM and configure the zone.
    8. Current servers sun4u which has to be converted to sun4v.

  • Solaris 8, 9, and 10 zones in logical domains

    We are planning to migrate our current environment to T5-2.
    Current application environment is running with Solaris 8, 9 and 10 OS versions in V8* series and M5000.
    Our plan is to install multiple logical domains in T5-2 with Solaris 10 or 11 and migrate the current running Solaris 8, 9 and 10 servers as zones. Plan is to create the flash using flar and restore in the target T5-2.
    Will there be any issue with the said OS versions on migration?
    Please suggest.

  • Reinstall zones (solaris 8 container)

    Hi
    I have to restore 2 zones, because originally the zones are stored on a ZFS filesystem i've did the backup with the zfsdump scripts.
    I'm able to restore the ZFS filesystems but that leaves me with the problem of reconfiguring the zones.
    how do i configure and reinstall these zones?, the original flash archive used to setup these zones is missing.
    would it be possible to use the following procedure
    1) restore the zfs filesystemen
    2) clone the latest snapshot and mount it.
    3) create an archive from the mounted snapshot to use as the install media for the zone
    the second option i can think of is
    1 ) create a standard solaris 8 zone with the solaris 8 image you can download from Sun
    2) Copy the files from the mounted clone to the new zone
    3) boot the zone
    I'm hoping someone could guide me in the right direction
    Regards,

    I just managed to restore a zfs filesystem with a solaris 8 container on it using the steps below.
    I'm curious if i got it right or if there is another more obvious way as i have only a little experience and hands on time with the zfs filesystem.

  • Solaris 8 on a v440 where do I get drivers for older solaris version?

    I have a db cluster of v880s on Solaris 8. I need to temporarily move the database to a v440. I created a flash archive on the v880s and, of course, it didn't work after installing (got tod error and couldn't boot). I know this is because it is too old a version of Solaris. My question is, can I apply the new drivers to the v880 and then create a new flar image? If so, where do I get the drivers? Also, is there any way to apply the drivers to a system that has been imaged already with a flar from a v880? Can I apply them as a post-install script under jumpstart? Can I somehow boot from cdrom and then apply them? Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is a fairly urgent matter as we have a firm date with movers that can't be changed.

    Hmm, the V440 is a quite old box as well, so it should work with Solaris 8 7/03 or older.
    There are three alternatives as far as i can see:
    1: What version of Solaris 8 are you using? If you are using 7/03 or later it should be sufficent if you booted the V440 into singleuser mode (from cd/dvd or network) mounted the disk and ran devfsadm -R on it.
    2: If the Solaris 8 would be older than 7/03, you should, as far as i can see, be able to install the flar archives from your jumpstart, and then boot of a Solaris 8 7/03 (or later) cd and run an upgrade from it.
    3: Apply the following patches, either to your 880 before you create the image, or to your V440 after installing the flar (you would have to apply the patches from single-user as mentioned inn step 1, it should be possible to add the patches from a jumpstart image using the patchadd -R command).

  • Problem with luactivate procedure in Solaris 10 Update 5

    We are having some issues with Live Upgrade procedures with Solaris 10 Update 5 on SUN Enterprise T5240 servers.
    We have successfully performed those procedures earlier on SUN Fire v240 using Solaris 10 Update 3.
    Here is the problem statement:
    1. Created a Flar image successfully
    2. Installed on a 5240 machine from InstallServer and using jumpstart profile using a sysidcfg and flash_prof
    3. The first installation is successful and system picks up configuration information from sysidcfg file on the install server.
    4. Now we use lucreate to create another BE (Boot Environment) BE_2.
    5. BE_2 is upgraded with luupgrade using the same flar as used in step 2.
    6. Issuing command:
    luactivate -s BE_2
    7. After a init 6, system tries to boot from BE_2. This time instead of copying system files from BE_1 due to -s options specified, it instead runs the sysconfig command that asks for all the configuration options again.
    8. When we were using these steps in Solaris 10 update 3 on Sun Fire v240, everything was working fine. The system config was available in BE_2 without any issue.

    The resolution is set by that of the first video clip put in a project timeline.  To change your project to 1080p do the following:
    Create a new project
    Put any known 1080p video clip in the project (it can be removed later)
    Select the old project and then Edit - Select All then Edit - Copy
    Select the new project and then Edit - Copy
    The new project should now be 1080p.  You can remove the first clip if you want.

  • Jumpstart flash_install profile doesn't work

    I have created a jumpstart server using flar images (flash) as source to install/clone servers as solution for backup of solaris install data from rootdg (using VxVM). All configs was done:
    * sysidcfg
    * rules.ok (after execution of ./check script)
    * profile
    * add_install_server

The first part of Identification of installed server semmes to be ok (in this case sysidcfg). I want to do a restore of server completely unnatended so this situation doesn't help me.

  • NLS:4: Cannot open message catalog TMADMIN_CAT,  Solaris Container

    Hello,
    Can someone please help me ?
    I have used Tuxedo 8 for many years on Solaris 8 servers, however we have now ported our installation to a Solaris 8 container on a Solaris 10 server. The server was ported using a flar image from the source server onto the new zone (or container). Tuxedo works absolutely fine in the container and the application appears to run as expected until I try using tmadmin or qmadmin on the command line and run a command in the shell and the following message appears for tmadmin, qmadmin message is similar.
    NLS:4: Cannot open message catalog TMADMIN_CAT, set 1, num 111; check TUXDIR=/opt/apps/tuxedo/8.0, LANG=C
    tmadmin/qmadmin performs the function but appears to be unable to open it's message catalog in $TUXDIR/locale/C
    The mesasage catalog exists in $TUXDIR/locale/C and chksum's identical to source server.
    I have manually re-installed the Tuxedo software in the container with no effect
    I have tried installing Tuxedo in a different directory
    I have tried setting NLSPATH=$TUXDIR/locale/C in the environent with no effect
    The tuxedo application works fine with no similar messages in the ULOG from the running application, it is just tmadmin and qmadmin on the command line, using the same user as runs the application
    localel settings are identical to original source server and :
    localeLANG=
    LC_CTYPE="C"
    LC_NUMERIC="C"
    LC_TIME="C"
    LC_COLLATE="C"
    LC_MONETARY="C"
    LC_MESSAGES="C"
    LC_ALL=
    If i set $LANG = C and run tmadmin and run a command I get the following message instead
    NLS:6: Message not found, catalog TMADMIN_CAT, set 1, num 1136
    Which implies it can see the catalog but cannot open it
    Tuxedo version is 8.0 Rolling patch 222
    Can anyone help? i would be very grateful
    Thanks
    Adam

    I have now worked arround this by re-generating the message catalogs from the catalog text files
    cd $TUXDIR/locale/C
    gencat TMADMIN_CAT TMADMIN.text
    gencat Q_CAT Q.text
    tmadmin and qmadmin now display the output ok, It kind of makes sense since the catalogs are generated in the new environment, but a full install still did not work.
    The new catalogs are identical to the old catalogs and cksum identically, but they work. Still scratching my head over this one, but at least we can move forward now.
