Flares on bottom of Display

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and having issues with the display. It seems that there are these flares of black coming up from the bottom of the display, almost like "black" spotlights. This can not be normal, and i dont know how to fix this issue other than taking my Mac in to have it checked out. Anyone know what the problem is, and how i can fix it?

  • Black strip at bottom of display (retina)

    Hi all,
Just out of curiosity, does anyone else have some "give" in the black plastic strip at the bottom the display on their Macbook Pro Retina? I only notice because as I took it out of the box (obviously whilst the MacBook was closed), I could feel it move a tiny bit. If it isnt supposed to be like that, is it just a case of Apple securing it? I dont really want to go through the hassle of having a new display or god forbid, new unit entirely.

  • Yellowish tint at the bottom of display

    Hello!
My iMac i7 is 2 weeks old and I've noticed the difference in color temperature of the top and bottom of display. The bottom is warmer, the top shows colder colors. Example: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3477/imacam.jpg
Apples support told me it's normal, but it doesn't look normal for me...

    Twols:
When iMac 7 came out, a problem that this model had was yellow coloration of the monitor. How wide spread, I don't know but enough for me not to buy it and wait which I'm still doing. There were many, many posts to that effect that are no longer here. It definitely has been a problem and it is not new with you although the yellow monitor front has been quiet for a long time and I assumed it was no longer a problem. The problem has to do with the manufacturing of the screen I think and with one manufacturer but if you are not satisfied make an appointment at an Apple store and bring it in--depending on how yellow, it may not be normal. It's up to you, any indication of yellowing may not be good enough or it's not noticeable under normal operation. There were a few folks who were quite active about this and if they have read your post, I hope they will respond because there was quite a bit of important information posted. My suggestion is to return and get your money back if Apple insists it is normal. Early customers of i7 who had the problem returned them many times and Apple seemed to be very obliging about exchanging at that time. As I said, this situation has not been reported for quite a while and I assumed everything was OK and it still may be. Also, I'm not sure but it may be too late to return the computer for your money but insist politely and tell Apple there have been many posts reported here regarding the yellow screen.
But and most important, you paid good money for the computer, don't be intimidated by self-proclaimed guardians of the flame who beef up their post numbers with prattle. As I like to say, if I'm paying Rolls Royce prices for something, I want Rolls Royce quality.

  • Dark Cloudy Area at the Bottom of Display

I have noticed a grey cloudy looking area at the bottom of my 24-inch Cinema Display. It kinda looks like an oil stain on the bottom of the screen. Does anyone have similar problems and or solutions? Thanks.

The 'cloudy looking area' you are describing is actually minor abrasions to the acrylic screen cover (the part held in by magnets). The abrasions are caused by the anti-static bag rubbing against the screen where the styrofoam blocks hold the screen in the packaging.
If you look carefully the abrasions in the bottom right and left corners are contained in a triangular area, the shape of the the pattern exactly matches the size and mold pattern of the styrofoam blocks. Some sets also show the same abrasions at the top of the screen they too match the size and shape of the styrofoam block used to hold the monitor in place in the packaging.
As the monitor shifts slightly in transit, the anti-static bag (which is sort of stiff) is rubbed against the monitor screen. The abrasions can bee seen where the anti-static bag is pushed against the screen by the styrofoam blocks.
No regular cleaning solution will remove the marks as they are wear spots on the acrylic screen protector. The only solution is to replace the screen (the part held in by magnets).

  • Button Top and Bottom - one displays other not

I created a report region and added a button to it:
Create a button in a region position
    Button name: SUBMIT
    Label: Submit
    Button Type: Image
    Image Name: #COMPANY_IMAGES#lisa.gif
Position: Top and Bottom of region
Then I viewed the page - the top image displays correctly, but the bottom one doesn't. So viewing page source I saw, that Top image src attribute is
    wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
whereas the Bottom image had src of
    /i/wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
Looks like a bug to me :-/
I'll create two buttons now (one for top and other for bottom button), no worries, but I thought you should know.

    Kaja,
Yes it's a bug. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Shadowy line and corners at bottom of display

    Hi all.
I'm on my second MBP (late 2008) now because I took the first one back for having shadowy bottom corners on the display. Unfortunately the replacement has the same issue.
The displays I've seen on in store models do not have the shadowy corners.
(although one of them had a much brighter left side...)
Is this a common thing or do I keep lucking out? It's not the worlds biggest issue, I just think the price of this machine justifies a near flawless display.
(the default leopard background does not display the dark corners obviously because its a black background but try turn it to a different colour. It's worst on grey.)
To be fair the rest of the display is the crispest, clearest laptop screen I have ever seen. maybe thats why its such a shame I'm having this shadowy problem.
(please note, restarting the machine, or having it charging does not change the issue and it even happens in windows)

It's entirely possible that some defective displays escaped detection in the manufacturing process and were installed on MBP's. I think that if they replaced your machine once for that defect, you have every right to expect it to be replaced again. I would talk to Apple about it and see what they can do for you. If the fault is not on a store machine, you can contrast that machine with yours to show up the flaw.
    Good luck!

  • Faint white line (brightened line) along bottom of display

My computer (bought in Oct. 2004) has suddenly developed a faint white band starting at the bottom left of the display and running across the bottom of the display. It looks as if the backlight is brighter in the area of the band. The band gets fainter as it goes across and is pretty much invisible by the time it hits the lower right corner. The band is about 1/4 inch wide (tall) and doesn't have sharply defined edges.
On searching the forum, I found the following locked thread that seems to address this issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=975713
On reading the thread, however, it was not clear to me whether this problem falls under the iMac G5 Repair Extension Program (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/) or indeed whether a definite solution has been found.
Has anyone had this problem and had it successfully resolved over the long-term? (Some posters in the locked thread had various components replaced but then the problem recurred.)
    Tom
    iMac G5 1.8 GHz 20" (1st Gen)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thomas this was a problem some time ago, and surfaced together with a different problem of faulty capacitors on the mid plane board. Removing the back cover look at the small silver capacitors and check that they aren't bulging or leaking. This flaw prompted the repair programme, and appears as broken or distorted images on screen. You should call Apple.
The bright line on the screen seems to be screen problem alone, a larger thread is at: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=197559&tstart=270.
My own IMac has worked perfectly (good caps) but had the bright band issue. The screen was replaced and for a few months was fine, but the bright band (as your excellent pictures) returned. I should call Applecare again, but haven't yet.

  • Shadows showing from bottom of display

This morning when I turned on my Early 2008 15" MacBook Pro (2.6 GHz, 4GB SDRAM, Mac OS 10.6.8) eleven shadows appeared eminating from the bottom of my display. It looks like a light from below the machine was shining through a picket fence. The shadows gradually fade to where they are barely discenable around the approximate vertical middle of the screen. I assume it is a backlighting issue but don't know if there's anything that can be done without a major expense.

I am prepared for a failure of what I suppose is either my graphics card or display. I'm doing frequent backups.
In addition to the occasional "picket fence" shadows across the bottom of my display, I have had a few instances where there is zero brightness when I start up and reach the log-in screen. (Using ambient light I can just barely tell that the log-in window is present; I can even log on with a best guess of where my cursor is but the screen remains dim).
In both cases, a restart corrects the issue at that time. Unfortunately, as you noted, it probably means that something is slowly going bad but, until it does, I'm able to work around it by just restarting. I haven't yet tried connecting an external monitor to see if that shows the same symtom (in which case I could be pretty sure it's the graphics card and not my display) but I'll do that if a restart stops solving the issue.
Trying to be philosophical and looking at the eventual total failure as the excuse I need to get a new computer!

  • Two small lights at bottom of display

I just got the 2.0ghz macbook alum. and after a day of using it I notice 2 sections of light "bleeding" from the bottom of the display. If I push the display back a little I can see two lights coming from the bezel at the bottom. They are about 2 inches apart and right in the middle of the bezel. Also located right between the left end of the display and the macbook logo.
Has anyone else seen this? Its dim but noticeable when viewing at an appropriate angle, but if i tilt it back just a bit, its just annoying.

Try restarting the computer, If that doesn’t help, try restarting the Dock.
    Restarting the Dock
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    Launch Terminal.
Wait until the $ sign shows up.
    Enter the command     killall Dock
Press the enter key on the keyboard. Wait until the prompt shows up.
    Quit Terminal.

  • Horizontal lines at bottom of display/monitor

    I have a HP All-in-one TouchSmart 610-1280qd ( QB912AV#ABA) it's 2yrs old an out of blue, horizontal lines at bottom of monitor/display.
I tried chatting with the support desk, NO help, I was told to start up in BOIS, NO help. I was ask to try to connect another monitor to the PC and check if I was facing the same issue on that monitor as well or not ? Oh yea this is a ALL-IN-ONE PC!
    NO help.
I need to know if there's a FIX to remove these horizontal lines at bottom of monitor/display?

    Hi zenalas,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Since you have already restarted and reset your iPhone, the next step in troubleshooting this issue where you are seeing lines on your screen is to restore the iPhone to its factory settings.

  • Iphone 5 has white squares along bottom? Display issue (haven't dropped it)

I haven't dropped my phone and I woke up the other morning and my phone was in my charger and it now has these white squares along the bottom... Like, honestly I would have rather broken the screen because then I could use the keyboard  but now I cannot even use the keyboard. But I have read up and I'm on my family account and they say I can get it replaced at the verizon store since I have insurance and I have only had it for 2 months.... However am I allowed to go into verizon with my phone and ask them whats wrong and have them replace it even if I'm with my brother and not my dad????

        Hi there tylerhobbie2163!
I completely understand how important it is to have your entire touch screen functioning properly! I'm very sorry to learn you're having this experience. Let's make sure we review all possible options together.
As long as there's no physical or liquid damage we should be able to replace your phone under your warranty. We will need to have the account verified prior to doing so. The account owner can add you as an Account Manager as long as you're 18 years of age or older. Here's how: http://vz.to/12WfcTA
Additionally, we can complete some troubleshooting to see if we can fix it first! Have you tried powering down the device and powering it back on? How about resetting it? Ensure your information is backed up and follow the steps here: http://vz.to/1cfZDog
If you're still having the concerns after the reset please let us know here, by visiting a store: http://bit.ly/3SdsA or by calling 800-922-0204 and we can review your warranty options.

  • Red line on sides and bottom of display

appeared yesterday for about 15 minutes. This is not the classic red line down the middle.
    Is this a known problem?

I've never heard of this issue before but if it has gone away then I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot unless it comes back again. If you have the Apple Care Protection Plan I would call Apple and at least let them know so they can document the issue.

  • Bottom of Log display

If the log display 'show log' is long and I need to jump to the bottom of display rather than scrolling down, is that possible ?

    3850#sh log | inc May  2

There really needs to be a better command to go to the bottom of the output.
As seen above, I had to put two spaces between May and 2 for the command to work properly.
I'm hoping for something more Linux-y, Cisco!
like the tail command, which shows the last 10 entries in the file (by default).

I listed the cat command because it is roughly equivalent
Here's what I would like to see as a command option from Cisco:
    sh log | tail
interesting.... I tried the tail command on a 3850 switch and got this output:
    3850#tail ?
The command you have entered is available in the IOS.sh.
However, the shell is currently disabled. You can enable
it on this terminal by typing
       'term shell'
You can also enable it for all terminals by configuring the
       'shell processing full'
command. There is additional information in the man command.
For more information, enable shell, and then enter:
    'man IOS.sh'
aha!  this worked !! (see below)

  • NWDS doesn't display "Window Preferences" Options

    Hi Experts,
I used to work in Netweaver Developer Studio (NWDS) without any problem, but now when I open "Window >> Preferences" Options, it doesn't display anything. It shows no options on the left side (white navigation panel) and no options on the right side (gray window), but the buttons on the bottom are displayed ok. It is very strange; I can't remember any configuration I have done that could cause this behavior.
Also, when  I hit "File >> New >> Project", it doesn’t show any portal options (Portal Application, etc.).
Does anyone have been through this before?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Raphael Barboza

I'm not sure why this would be happening however since its such a simple task I would first I would re-install to you current patch level. Also, perhaps check your plugins against another NWDS installation.
    Cheers
    Dan
