Flash 10.0 not recognized CentOS

Not sure the exact version of flash because it is the new one.  If it were working correctly
I could view the flash version on the web site.  A "strings" command on libflashplayer.so
shows what I entered below though.
Flash version: Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82
Linux Version: CentOS 4.8 (updated via YUM over the years from 4.5).  2.6.9-89.0.25.ELsmp
Firefox Version: 3.0.19-1.el4.centos / 3.0.19
Here is what happens.  I currently use LNX 9,0,48,0 flash which worked in the past and still does
for some things like youtube.  Most things requiring flash won't display though and ask me to
update.  I have updated repeatedly to 10 but one of two things always happens:
1) The flash version still shows LNX 9,0,48,0.  This I believe is because I did not have the correct location to put libflashplayer.so, or
2) I try to view something that should work with 10 and I get just a black box.  This I assume means the libflashplayer.so is in its
correct location but somehow is causing an error and not being recognized.  Trying to view the flash version tells me that I have
to update.  If I update through YUM it says it is already installed.  Similar problems with other methods.
The method I have tried is download the gz file.  The instructions then say to copy the libflashplayer.so to the plugins directory.
I have copied it to /home/chamberl/.mozilla/plugins, /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.19/plugins, and maybe other places
but I still get the same problems.
If I had to make an educated guess I would guess that flash version 10 is not compatible with CentOS4.* or maybe with the current
version of firefox or both, but I cannot find any compatibility charts.  Is this what the problem is, or is it something else?
Also please note when I go back to LNX 9,0,48,0 stuff works again as it did.  That is many flash sites work but most tell me to upgrade again.

Hi, I understand what you are saying about no notice, etc. This first appeared with the Service Pack 1 for Win7 and then carried over to the IE9. I hear an update to IE9 is coming so hopefully they will have a notice appear. I'd like to see a "new changes" when the browsers are updated, right along with the instructions to download/Install it.
I'm glad that took care of the problem for you and it wasn't anything more serious:-)
Thanks for marking your thread as answered also.

  • Flash installs but not recognized

Flash player successfully downloads and installs but websites subsequently clicked state that Flash Player is not installed. Websites are reputable such as CNN. IE states that Flash is installed and Enabled.  Windows 7, IE recent versions, Flash 15.  I have reviewed and attempted Adobe's proposed solutions.

  • Flash 8 Windows Not Recognizing Flash 5 Mac .fla file!!

I have been forced to change computers from Mac to Windows.
My Mac has .fla files created in Flash 5, and I am attempting to
transfer them to my Windows machine (XP Media), where I am using
Flash 8 Professional. My problem: some of the files I created in
Flash 5 on the Mac are transferring to the Windows environment just
fine...and others aren't recognized at all by Flash 8 (and I get an
error from Windows saying it cannot transfer the files because it
"cannot read from the source file or disk", despite their having
been created on exactly the same machine using the same program. I
have to sell this Mac, but now I am afraid to until I can figure
out how to successfully transfer these files. Any suggestions,
    anyone?

how are you transferring them? it doesnt sound like a flash
issue as many have been sharing FLA
files cross-platform for years witout issue. There's a chance
the FLAs are corrupt as well.

  • MacBook Air OS X 10.8.5 Flash problem - install not recognized?

Got notice to update flash. Downloaded & installed update this past weekend, apparently successfully. Since then, all sites that use flash have told me it's out of date and I need to download the update! (I have even re-downloaded and re-installed, no change). I use Safari browser.
    Help!

Most times, the security issues are Windows related, but there are risks for Mac users too... just not as severe or frequent. Regardless, it's best to update when needed.
The "Clean Install" isn't as tough as it looks. Those steps are written precisely in the order they need to be done, and I wrote them very specifically when it came to detail. IT takes about three minutes start to finish.

  • I Solved Can't Mount Error/Flashing Orange Light/Not recognized by iTunes!

++IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST!++
I solved all of my Ipod shuffle issues and just uploaded 5 albums worth of songs with no problems! Now I am listening to Black Eyed Peas and it might me my imagination, but I think the sound is vastly improved from before. It took me 3 flippin' days to troubleshoot this and solve the problem, probably 6 hours worth of my time. Apple: You guys need to program your hardware to handle anti-virus software, Window's security updates, etc. Too many software conflicts!
Let me first tell you what happened that caused my Ipod to "die". Simply, I built a brand new custom PC to replace my Dell Inspiron laptop. I purchased my shuffle about six months ago and it worked like a charm until I tried plugging it into my new computer's usb port. Then all **** broke loose and the Ipod would not engage. I went here for support and tried updating it with the current updater (1/10/2006 version) to no avail. I uninstalled all the drivers, wiped everything off my Ipod manually, deleted files, made back-up copies of my library, etc. I wiped everything off my system that had anything to do with an iPod. Nothing worked.
THEN, I came across this article posted on Apple. Hopefully it is still up:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article/html?artnum=93716
Follow each and every step. The steps are laid out well, and nothing was missing in terms of a hidden step. If you follow it to the T, you should be able to restore your Ipod to like-new working order.
    Some key things to remember:
    1. Make sure you empty your recycle bin after deleting all of the iTunes and iPod related files. Then restart your system. Your system caches copies of files associated with iPod. When it see's another version, the two start conflicting with one another, and that causes problems. Deleting your Temp folder is also critical, and this is outlined in one of the steps in the article above.
    2. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you exit out of any anti-virus program you have running, including the firewall while you download AND install the iTunes and iPod software. Install the iTunes software first, restart your computer, then install the iPod updater software, Restart again. Do not dismiss this. It is probably the reason why most people's iPod's won't mount and they simple fail to recognize their system even has a firewall running (even Window's firewall).
    3. Be patient and follow the instructions. There are five printed pages in this article and it takes about an hour to go through each step, uninstall software, redownload software, install it, etc. After spending 6 hours troubleshooting this, an hour of actually making progress should be easy!
I hope this helps. If you cannot mount your iPod, don't throw it away or go out and buy a new one. I am confident that you will be able to fix your problems and be listening to music on your shuffle soon!

  • Flash player is not recognized even though we have the current version

upon clicking on a youtube url we get an error message stating that we need to install the current version of flash in order to play the url. We already have that install and when cut and pasting it into IE it works just fine.

IE uses a different version of Flash (ActiveX) than other browsers use. You need the Plugin version for Firefox.
1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.

  • Flash plug-in not recognized in Firefox

I wasn't sure where to put this. I'll be putting it on the Mozilla site as well.
I've installed the Flash 10 plug-in about half a dozen times on my Macbook and I cannot get the web content to work. It appears to install properly, i restart the site and/or reboot the PC and everytime the flash content should come up, it prompts me to install Flash again. It keeps acting like i don't have it installed.
Any help? If this isn't the right discussion, let me know.

Try this one more time. Uninstall FlashPlayer. Install the newest version here.
    Repair permissions after the update.

  • Flash CS3 Debugger not recognizing keyboard input

I am trying to debug a piece of code involving a keystroke.

is pressed a second time so you can see why this is frustrating me.
I'm running Flash CS3 on an intel iMac. The program is

Is this a known issue? Are there any workarounds?
