Flash 11 and Safari 5.1.7 on Mac 10.6.8

Does anyone know how to get Flash to work on Safari? I have tried following people's suggestions from various forums but it just plain won't work. Every time I download Flash, the next time I go to a site that requires it, it tells me I don't have it installed. I also tried FireFox and Chrome and it won't work with those either. This is a problem on both my desktop and my MacBookPro (just a year old).
Advice? Solutions?

Provide the details on what you did, with what, and from where. This cryptic statement is meaningless.
Step one: open up /Library/Internet Plug-ins and post the latest Flash Player version shown.
Step two: go to http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.ht ml and download the appropriate Flash Player uninstaller.
Step three: go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and DL the latest version.
Step four: quit all browsers, run the uninstaller, and then the installer.
Step five: launch Safari->Help->Installed Plug-ins and you should see this:
and Flash Player prefPane should show: Plug-in version 11.4.402.265 is installed.

  • Flash 9 and Safari

    Safari will not show flash content on one user, but does on all other users. On the defective user, Flash will play properly on all other browsers. When Safari cannot show the Flash content, it displays a Quicktime Q with a question mark.
    Any suggestions on restoring my machine to normalcy?
    TIA...Mike
    Macbook Pro Duo Core 2   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    This may be coming in long after the fact but I just had to go through the same bit of strangleweed.
    I downloaded the newest version of Flash Player (9,0,28,0) and installed it on several different Macs. It worked fine on all but my Powerbook, and even on that one it worked fine on other browsers AND in my test account. But on the Pbook's main account, in Safari, I got the Quicktime Question-mark icon in place of any Flash content. Went through all the hoops, repaired permissions, reinstalled Flash Player, trashed Safari's plist. Nothing helped.
    Finally, at one point on the Flash website it said something about uninstalling any/all previous versions before Flash 9 would work. I downloaded the uninstaller to the desktop, ran it, reinstalled Flash Player 9, repaired permissions, and everything is fine now.

  • QuickTime 7.3 Javascript and Safari 3.0.4 on MAC OS X 10.4.11 is BROKE

    *UNBELIEVABLE lack of QA on APPLE's part!!!* I am totally embarrassed by this, guys... I've been successfully using the embedded object method of instantiating QT movies since May of 2007 on Safari first; and Firefox, et al browsers second. Safari was the clear winner when it came to movie file load times, and blew away number two(firefox); but recent releases(in the past couple of weeks) have broken their own browser by displaying a sad little 'Q' logo instead.
    To add insult to injury, I am developing a RIA(Rich Internet App) that relied on this H.264 decoder's ability to run reverse rate speeds of -2x, -4x, and -8x like a champ. Now, sadly; that TOO is broken and only reverse rates of anything > -1 and < 0 seem to work. Did I mention I delved into the Javascript code in AC_QuickTime.js and found even more embarrassing code to report. I didn't use these functions, because I chose to procedurally create DOM child nodes in JavaScript to do the work of adding in <object><embed></embed></object> structures, and APPLE uses a sophomoric technique of building up a concatenated string of literal XHTML4 code. Okay, so that's not as big a problem as them BREAKING the tool; but it might be a hint into the quality of staff they employ to provide these interfaces to us.
    Sooooo. What's next, ya'll? I need to move on, and will; but I sure hope someone will help cattle prod these guys into better QA upon subsequent releases; and please keep me advised of when the fix finally arrives. Sorry about the rant; but these type of goofs could've been avoided in my humble, but vocal opinion.

    Hello Again. I'm back after referring to the web page you sent me, fellow Texian; and appreciate your time. I dug into this section of text with a fine tooth comb, and discovered this was written for IE-centric developers; which I'm guessing you might be first. I'm a SAFARI first kind of dude, just because I'm too lazy to use anything else to get started on my MACBOOK PRO. I see the explanations of what you refer to(and the documentation refers to as "external"), but it's still a function call in the AC_JavaScript.js file, which I've seen before. EMBED is STILL ALIVE and in use here, FYI.
    Nothing was different about my usage, except that I attacked the problem from a lower level.... BUT... I DID find one subtle thing that I had been getting away with since last May 2007; and Safari's JavaScript interpreter just let me do it. In the OBJECT tag, the use of PARAM was being used for the SRC argument. So, I dug into my JAVASCRIPT BIBLE(6th edition) authored by Danny Goodman et al, and in the Bonus Chapter section here is what I'd like to share:
    The PARAM is considered an ODD CASE, per the authors, and it is uniquely passed to Applets, plug-ins, and activeX controls, as one would do on the server side using JAVA NATIVE INTERFACE calls from JAVA to a compiled DLL or SHARED OBJECT file. SWIG is another example of interpretive interfaces to native code methods and variables. The authors go on to say you can't really get to them with JavaScript calls, or alter them because of this uniqueness and the fact that they are bound at load time only. So, you MUST use PARAM and not Attribute or Property because they are truly different; and it's the way that APPLE provides the interface to their decoder we know and love as QuickTime. APPLE just fixed their oversight and tightened the restrictions on this in their latest release, and my old code was made to adhere to the W3C standard all of a sudden.
    I went into my DOM node method and changed the element to be of type PARAM, and everything I knew to have worked before was suddenly reinstated. What's odd is how this misapplication of attribute allowed FIREFOX on MAC OS X to load, play, pause, and FF without error, but exhibited the reverse rate problem only -- that's too weird.
    In closing, you or the article may not have solved my problem directly, but through this conversation; it stimulated my thinking to find the root of the problem from a different
    pathway.
    Cheers and Happy Holidays and I hope I don't have to bother the forum again anytime soon -- if you know what I mean, jellybean... And sorry APPLE for my first impressions -- I brag on you guys to my boss all the time, making him wish he'd switch to MAC instead. My motto still lives, "ONCE YOU GO MAC; YOU NEVER GO BACK!"

  • Adobe Flash Player and Safari

    Hello everybody,
    I bought new MacBook Pro 13'' last July 2012.
    For the past week I can not suddenly view presentations and videos. I have installed adobe flash player (program recommended by Apple).
    My second problem is that when I try to open safari get an error "safari quit unexpectedly '
    Please ask for help. Do not know what to do.
    Thank you very much indeed
    Latertulia

    Not to polemic or anything...
    Here is a quote from another link in this forum that also lays the blame on Apple.
    Apple has publicly stated that they don't want flash "lite"
    1) Funny that the maker of Safari "lite", has an issue with Adobe making Flash "lite"
    2) Since Apple has never pointed the finger at Adobe, it's no surprise that Adobe will not develop software that would have no access to the App Store (Controlled by Apple)

  • Flash player  and safari updates

    I have Safari 5.0.4 installed my version of flash player is 10,1,102.64 the Adobe website say this is what they detect they also say I need version 10.2.152.33 do i have to uninstall the old version or just download the newer one

    well, I know everyone has their own opinion on flash player. If you need it, you need it. My understanding is that flash player "should" be uninstalled first before updating. Depending on what version you have installed, sometimes you will find and Adobe Flash Player uninstaller in your utilities folder (deposited by your last install of flash player if you downloaded the dmg file from Adobe). On rare occasions, Apple has included a flash player update (built into something else), but only on occasion.
    The benefit from using "the latest" version of flash player is that you get the security updates built into that version. Depending on your risk factor, you will have to decide to update or not. At some point, if you do not update for a long time, you will get prompted by a site that needs that latest version to run it's content properly. Note, if you are running a PPC machine, you only have archived versions available..

  • Can I put an imovie on a flash drive, and edit it on a different mac?

    So i am doing a video project for school. We used imovie on a mac desktop to make and edit most of the video. unfortunatly, we are still not done and the girl who has the imac, is leaving for out of town. we were wondering if we put the imovie on a flash drive, can we then upload it onto a different mac (in our case a macbook laptop) and then continue editing? the flash drive is a brand new 8 GB flash drive so it has pleanty of room for our 5 minute video. We also do not have time to start over, with the deadline being very soon.
    So will the flash drive trasportation work?
    Is there even a way to transport the video over to a new computer?
    Thank you everyone who will help me out!

    Hi
    My thoughts
    A. Free Space on Start-Up (Boot, Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - must be 25Gb or more to let iDVD run OK
    B. If DVD-burner doesn't work - then Save as a DiskImage - in DVD - to e.g. Desktop so it's easy to find
    C. Format an USB-Memory stick (WILL ERASE IT to 100%) - AS - Mac OS Extended (hfs) ! ! !
    ( UNIX / DOS / FAT32 / Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT WORK FOR THIS ! )
    D, This .img file You just created can now be moved over to another Mac. Save it onto this Hard Disk
    E. Burn the DVD - by using Disk Util tool - and burn the .img file onto a DVD
    F. SET DOWN BURN SPEED to x2 or x4 MAX !
    G. I only use Verbatim SL-DVD-R disks
    Good Luck

  • Flash problems in Safari 2.0.1 - freezes with spinning wheel

    Safari is freezing up on many sites which have flash content on them. One of the sites I am having the most problems with is MySpace.com
    I have the most up to date Flash player and Safari. Running 10.4.2

    Hello Pady
    You use the cd only when you need to repair the Disk also known as Disc repair. Please read the Directives in the posts carefully , so that you understand them & then apply.
    To run Repair Disk permissions you go.> Utilites>Disk Utility pick your Hard Drive & pick Repair Disk Permissions, you can get info after @ the tool bar at the Info button there will be messages when it runs in the window on the Utility. Really though reread the links so that you understand. Also read as much as you can hear at Discussion, that is what I do.
    Also make sure that when you post you go to the most pertinent, place to post, where you will get the most attention.
    I need to get to sleep.

  • Has any one heard if apple will start to support Flash player for Safari

    There are a few web sites I like to visit but they require flash player and Safari does not support it on my iTouch.  does anybody know a work around or have you heard if Apple will start supporting it?

    Considering Apple owns about 75% of the "pad" space I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to disappear.
    To further illustrate your ignorance, it is Adobe who has given up on Flash, not Apple.  If you did any sort of research you would quickly find out why there is no Flash in iDevices.
    If there's any pride swallowing called for, I believe it would be yours.

  • Manually sync Notes and Safari bookmarks via USB cable for iOS device and an iMac with MacOS 10.7 Lion and iTunes 11

    "I'm aware that with MacOS 10.8 Mountain Lion there is no support for USB cable sync of iOS devices." Notes and Safari Bookmarks cannot longer be sync via USB cable with iTunes. For owners of iPhone 3G that cannot upgraded the device to a version higher than iOS 4.2, syncing Notes and Safari Bookmarks via usb cable with iTunes is the only option we have. There is no iCloud integration for Notes and Safari Bookmarks under iOS 4.2. I'm not updating to MacOS 10.8, because there is no way to sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via cable. So I won't be able to sync those anymore unless I upgrade to a newer model of iPhone. I'm not into a new hardware investment, at least not for now. I just want to know if iTunes 11 running in MacOS 10.7 Lion still have the functionality of sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via USB cable.

    Mac OS 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.0.4.
    jlbr wrote:
    I want to confirm if "other" still appears with iTunes 11 and MacOS 10.7 for sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks:
    Yes.
    If you are sincing Notes via iCloud, iTunes will tell you so.
    If you change the iDevice - Settings> iCloud > Notes - Off, they sync (or not sync) thru iTunes (either wifi or cable).
    So my question now would be:
    Is "Notes" manual sync checkbox option provided under "Others" in iTunes 11.0.1 with MacOS 10.7 Lion?
    If you change the iDevice - Settings> iCloud > Notes - Off, then yes.

  • Firefox crashes as soon as Flash video tries to load and Safari shows the error "Plug-in Failure"

    I am unable to use Youtube or view Flash video on any sites.
    Firefox crashes/quits as soon as a video tries to load and Safari shows the error "Plug-in Failure".
    I have uninstalled Flash, downloaded a fresh version and installed, but no joy.
    I am using OS X 10.6.6.
    This is what I have tried so far;
    1. Repaired Permissions.
    2. Restarted with external drive and run Disk repair.
    3. Restarted with external drive and run DiskWarrior.
    4. Completely uninstalled Flash plugin. Robooted. Reinstalled Flash plugin. Rebooted.
    5. I even installed an earlier version of the plugin to see if there was some incompatibility with the latest version.
    6. Created a new user login and tried from there. Same problem.
    Any ideas?

    You have what is necessary for Flash Player to be working. Firefox had some issues last year but it was after loading a video or the website. I had not heard of it lately and even last year don't recall it happening on the Macs.
    What is happening with yours sounds like a direct conflict with some addon/extension.
    Here is the link from Firefox describing what happened last year. You might want to see if there is anything more current.

    I'll get the Mac troubleshooting guide in a minute and post it also.
    Any adblock or popup blocker software would cause this also.

  • Can't make Flash button work in firefox and safari

    I'm creating an Entry Page slideshow here with Flash Cs3 and AS2:
    http://vaforestwild.com/
    I'd like to be able to click on the whole slideshow (or the "Enter Site" text) to go to another page on the site, which I'm calling "vaforestwild.com/home.html."  I've read various tutorials all day and tried many things, but couldn't seem to apply any "on release" action to the "Enter Site" text that would work.  I even created an invisible button (putting a keyframe on just the HIT state and deleting it from the UP state), named the instance "invbutton3", and then typed in this action on the first frame and inserted a keyframe at the end of the show:
    invbutton3.onRelease=function(){
    getURL("http://vaforestwild.com/home.html");
    The cursor changes to a hand, but nothing happens when clicking on the show.  So I was experimenting with modifying the Object text in the head section of the index file where the slideshow is located and I stumbled on something that made the clickable link work in Internet Explorer, but not in Safari and Firefox.  I modified the object text to read like this:
    onfocus="MM_goToURL('parent','http://vaforestwild.com/home.html');return document.MM_returnValue"
    (Previously, it had http://vaforestwild.com/index.html and would just start the slideshow over if you clicked on it)
    Here is the entire <object> text:
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0" name="slideshow" width="945" height="400" id="slideshow" title="vfwg-slideshow" onfocus="MM_goToURL('parent','http://vaforestwild.com/home.html');return document.MM_returnValue">
                     <param name="movie" value="vfwg-entryshow2.swf" />
                     <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <embed src="vfwg-entryshow2.swf" width="945" height="400" name="slideshow" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
          type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
         </embed>
         </object>
    Can you help me do one of two things, either 1) modify the object text so the clickable link will go to that "home" page in all 3 browsers or 2) fix the slideshow action itself so the action script will work on the invisible button.
    I hope this isn't too confusing.  Thanks in advance for any help!

    </html>
    Since the html page didn't work, I tried dragging the swf file into my index page and Dreamweaver automatically produced the "embed object" text that I pasted in my previous email.  Incidentally, I was mistaken when I said that text was in the head section.  It wasn't, it was in the body. Here's the script code in the head section:
    <script type="text/JavaScript">
    <!--
    function MM_goToURL() { //v3.0
      var i, args=MM_goToURL.arguments; document.MM_returnValue = false;
      for (i=0; i<(args.length-1); i+=2) eval(args[i]+".location='"+args[i+1]+"'");
    //-->
        </script>
    Okay, so now I have produced a test page to work on here:
    http://vaforestwild.com/slideshowtest.html
    I started over by letting Dreamweaver create the object text again, and here's what I have (script in the head is the same as above) The only change I made is in the size of the width and height, which Dreamweaver thought was 32x32 :
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0" width="945" height="400">
      <param name="movie" value="vfwg-entryshow2.swf" />
      <param name="quality" value="high" />
      <embed src="vfwg-entryshow2.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="945" height="400"></embed>
    </object>
    I believe my problem is most likely related to how I'm applying action to my button in Flash. I find the tutorials somewhat confusing and I am unable to do exactly what the tutorials say, even though the writers specify they are using AS2.  I'm going to be continuing to try different things and I'll report back if I am successful.  In the meantime, if you have any suggestions based on the information I've provided, I would love to hear them.  Thank you!
