Flash 11 with Captivate 5.5

We have been running into issues with a client's configuration - buttons not behaving correctly, etc. I've learned that they are using Flash 11.
Does anyone know of problems with Flash 11?  And why doesn't Captivate 5.5 publish to it?

@Marion.  You may be a tad hasty here blaming Adobe for this issue.
Go back to your client and ask them if they are delivering the courseware from a web server or LMS over HTTP, or from a LAN drive or CD ROM.
If it turns out that the client is delivering the course from a LAN or CD ROM, then the most likely reason for this issue is that end users do not have these locations set up as Trusted Locations in Flash Global Security.
Let's eliminate that possibility first. If the client IS delivering the content via a web server or LMS over HTTP, we'll need to look a little deeper.
I'm not aware of any issue so far introduced with Flash 11 AFTER content has been published.  When Flash 11 first came out I identified an issue where Captivate 4 would not publish properly if you had installed Flash 11, however, I believe that was fixed in an update because I am now on Flash 11.1 and I can publish Captivate 4 again.

  • Integrating Flash With Captivate 4

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have searched the net and these forums but I can't seem to find any answers to my problems. I am attempting to create a quiz in Flash and put it into Captivate, (using the course builder section, I have the e-learning package). I can do this but the quiz just seems to play through and not stop. Does anyone know how to do this correctly? Is there anything I should add into the scripting? And should this be done in Flash or Captivate? Would greatly appreciate any help.
Also is Flash the best way to try to modify or enhance Captivate? The person I'm creating this for wants something like a Raptivity Quiz in a Captivate program. So far I seem unable to create anything in Flash that will work correctly in Captivate. Again I'd be greatful if anyone could shed any light.

    Hi there
Sure, lots of folks here create Flash Widgets and Gizmos and use them with Captivate. So it does actually work. Likely you just need to figure out the relationship. (I'm not a Flash savvy person, so I don't mix the two)
Question here though. Captivate has its own quizzing built into the product. Why Flash? Does it do quizzing better? Or was this just someone's requirement without having any knowledge Captivate does quizzing?

You might want to consider also posting this question over in

  • Problems with Captivate Redirects, possibly Flash Security and XML

    Hello fellow Captivarians,
First a little backstory, earlier in the year we developed a course that heavily used external image files, which were gathered and organised through an XML file, then placed into Captivate 4 through a widget. This was all developed in Actionscript 3 and was designed to be accessed locally, on the user's computer from a CD Drive.
We had a whole deal of issues with Captivate and Flash security issues, finding that we could not get the importing to work correctly in Internet Explorer as it outright refused to import the XML file (Presumably because of security issues). However, Firefox would work fine. Eventually we got it working via a bandaid solution by prepackaging the course with a firefox portable install.
Now many months later, we have discovered our previous solution still works, but it now outright denies any redirects from HTML page to HTML page, regardless if the content is on the CD or if it's on the harddrive. Buttons that link to external sources will not work, (even if it's just a local page in the same directory).Flash player simply refuses to redirect between HTML pages. We tried some older projects that were developed in AS2 - and this wasn't an issue.
The odd thing is however, on my computer it still works fine. However, on everyone elses in our office, it will not redirect at all. We are all running the same version of Flash Player, and the same version of Firefox...
Any ideas? Could it have been a recent update with the Flash Player that prevents this sort of interaction?
    Cheers.

    Hi there
Have you tried configuring the Flash Security Settings? That's my guess.
Click here for a tutorial on how to configure
If this will be on CD-ROM or DVD, you may need to consider adding a light version of a Web Server to the media and launching via that.

  • How do I control flash object with captivate play head?

    Hi All,
I am a learner to the captivate.
I am having problem with animation-audio synching with captivate paly head.  When I inserted an animation to the slid, It does not synch with the play head. So I lose the control of pause, next. I tried out synch to project option but it didn’t work out.
Can anybody help me in this. Should I write any script in animation or any widget is there…
    I am using flash6 and captivate 5.5.
    Thanks,
    Arundhati.

    Hello,
Nothing to do with button becoming inactive, really, but with the way the Effects are scripted. Will try to answer your question about the buttons however.
I'll try to explain the functionality of a button.  A button typically has a pausing point that is visible on the timeline, right? The portion before the pausing point is the 'active' portion, which will mean that the user can click on the button and this will have results. When you click on a button, the action attached as Success action is triggered, in this example the Text Caption is set to visible. But at the same time the playhead is released and moves beyond the pausing point into the Inactive portion, which means that it cannot be clicked again.
    Two possible solutions:
use a rollover caption instead of your click/text captions work flow.
Create a small advanced action BtShow1 and BtShow2 for each of the buttons, again I have screenshots ready but they are not accepted, bummer.... Will try to write the statements:
Show Text_1      for the first button, shows the correct Caption
Hide Text_2       hides the other caption that could have been shown by the other button
Assign rdcmndGotoFrame with rdinfoCurrentFrame            this expression puts back the playhead directly before the pausing point so that button remains active
You can duplicate this action to create Btn2, and you only have to reverse the ID's of the Text Captions
When you attach those actions to the buttons, you can click as many times as you want. You tell that you have searched the forums? Bit strange because I have been explaining this so many times, and blogged about this kind of micro-navigation (frame by frame):
    Micro-navigation in Adobe Captivate

PS: when updating, I can insert one image, will try to add the other one, in a second update perhaps

  • Adobe programs dont work with Captivate to capture/record

    Hi there.
I've had problems with Captivate capturing screen recording from Adobe Premier cs5, where it would not show any of the video which was being edited.  I figured this was just the video issue and worked around it by just not showing the video preview for the small thing i was demonstrating, it wasnt a big deal if it was just isolated to this.
Next I was using Adobe Photoshop and setting up a little demo on how to fill objects.  Captivate did not pick up the cursor, it shows a ugly black box.
I also want it to pick up the full motion of my mouse cursor in photoshop, but it doesnt come close, so as im narrating how to do something, my actual mouse is not showing at the same time as im saying it which is essential when you are trying to show a way to FILL a certain area of a shape.
I had plans to do many things with captivate, now it seems i am going to have to switch back and forth with Camtasia, convert to AVI the parts that Captivate does not handle, and then import them into Captivate to make my demonstrations look seemless???
I have a lot planned for Adove CS5 Flash, is this also going to give me the same problem?
I have already searched for a solution tot his, and everyone has said that captivate does not capture things where there is overlayed content etc etc...
This strikes me slightly insane when Camtasia does it so well, and Im using an Adobe program to provide training on Adobe programs...
If anyone knows any delevopers for captivate on here, can they PLEASE look at this right now as im slapping myself wondering why this is the case and how im going to plan to do all the simulations half with camtasia and half with captivate on Adobe products we use at my work.....
Oh see the below link around slide 42 to get an example of what im saying here..
    http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/col-fill/colour-fill.htm
    or you can check out
http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/wp/?page_id=35 its at the bottom of the page.
Anyway im worried about what to be doing at this point, I got captivate for adobe products, not for other products and programs out there.
    Cheers for any help,
    Ben.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to modify the mouse cursor AFTER doing the captures once you're back in Captivate editing them?
For example, are you able to select the mouse for the slides where it added this wierd square cursor, then choose the normal arrow cursor from the Properties tabl > Options accordion?
Or are you able to delete the mouse from these same slides, and add it back again, and then select the cursor you want?
Have you found that there is nothing you can do to change this particular cursor on these slides?

  • Is it possible to combine JQuery with Captivate?

    Hi there,
I'm using Captivate version 6 on a Mac OSX 10. I am creating an elearning resource for a client and most of their staff will be accessing it via iPads and iPhones, so I want to publish it using HTML5. They'd like to add a couple of drag and drop tasks (they don't need to be assessed) but the only way I can see to do this is via the Infosemantics widget. I've bought this and used it for previous projects, and it works well as a drag and drop, but obviously doesn't work on an iPad with it being Flash based.
I've seen that I can create a drag and drop exercise using JQuery, but then I don't know how I can combine this with Captivate to make one seamless presentation. Once the HTML5 has been published is there a way of bringing other HTML pages into it? Or could javascript be used within Captivate?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a website, whose name escapes me ( I am at work ) which people submit to in a variety of languages and various formats such as Extended Cut, Directors Cut etc so that you have no need to mess about with them, just add them. Also, as I said above, some are just for non-English parts so don't show subtitles if the dialogue is in English.
Edit: found it. I use http://subscene.com/

  • Collaboration with captivate

    Hi,
We have just set up a team of 5 using Elearning suite 2 and other Cs5 projects
Previously we all went our own seperate ways and each person did everything for their project
Now we want different people to get images, sound video and put them together.
So how do people work collaboratively with Captivate
    1. What do people use to assign tasks/track bugs to people ?
    2. What do people use to book in assets/control versions ?
    from adobe help
From Bridge, you can place selected assets in Adobe Captivate by dragging them into Adobe Captivate or using the In Captivate option from the Place menu
Select File > Place > In Captivate.
    thank-you
    Nymicat

    Hello Nymicat,
Some of the workflows which might help with this kinds of situation is Roundtripping with Photoshop, Soundbooth and Flash. For Ex, if Graphic Designer creates a PSD image and shares with the person working with Captivate and he imports the PSD, next time when the PSD is changed, Captivate can alert the user who is using captivate that the PSD has changed and whether he wants to re-import. Same thing happens with Flash Roundtripping also.
Also, reviewing is very easy with Captivate's features like SWF Commenting and Collaborating with Acrobat.com.
Currently Captivate cannot do version control and there are many softwares available for the same.
    Thanks,
    Vish

  • With all of the applications available, what other applications recommended to use along with Captivate 8.

With all of the applications available, what other applications recommended to use along with Captivate 8.  I do not heed to install all of them, just what I need.

Personally I use both Photoshop and Audition (both in CC) a lot when using Captivate 8. There is roundtripping possible with those two Adobe applications. If you have a CC subscription try it out! And when needing HTML5 output, you can insert published Edge Animate files, to replace former Flash animations. As you can see in CP8, Edge Inspect can be used to test the output on mobile devices without having to publish or to deploy on a webserver.

  • This is a ditto... but Inserting Camtasia movies (MP4-Flash) into Captivate (a path or JS challenge)

    I’m using Captivate v. 6 and Camtasia v. 8
I’ve created Camtasia movies as MP4 – Flash.
My Captivate project is a SCORM housed on an LMS (SyberWorks) for the company’s internal intranet.
In Captivate I’ve inserted/imported movies as Event Videos, Progressive Download with a playbar/skin.
Movies are housed on same directory level as the .html and .swf zipped files.
Path to video files are relative (ie)
    Z:\Orgs\ogslp\Courses\2012DfltPrvnt\Test 6 Flash with controller2.mp4
I did find the following note on Adobe’s site:
Note: If your Adobe Captivate project contains FLV/F4V files, ensure that the files contain metadata for the video player to function correctly. FLV/F4V files created with Flash Communication Server 1.5.2, FLV Exporter version 1.2, and Sorenson Squeeze® 4.0 automatically contain metadata. Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 is included with the Flash Video Kit. If you import an FLV file that does not have any metadata, the file will not play correctly in your project.
and am waiting for the IT department to get a copy of Adobe Media Encoder so I can embed javascript into my mp4/Flash Movies.
The movies of course play very well off my hard drive, but not off the LMS, a deja vu from the link below.
So… is my issue a path issue or do I simply need to embed javascript into my video(s), or perhaps both?
These Adobe forum links have been the most helpful

And PS, why are no videos showing up in the video manager? I can see them in the author slides, but not in the manager.
    Thnx - wjf

This is a reply to my own message. A work around that will allow our team to move forward is to make a screen capture of a screen capture. We have content experts who are equipped with Camtasia. These folks will make their narrated movies. I'll then capture their movies with Captivate's screen capture by following: Insert > Recording Slide. Google Chrome of course has the Flash player installed by default so I open the mp4 (M4V) or FLV movie via Chrome and use Captivate's Recording Slide, choose Video Demo option. This gets me a Camtasia screen capture into Captivate. Import audio on its own and it matches up with my test of a movie 1 minute long (longer videos might slip out of sync - will test this).
However, the movie does not have the convenient playbar attached, so video navigation/control can be gained via a Captivate playbar for the slide itself. This offers a double set of navigation options b/c I also created my own set of navigation controls with Flash, but with a simple set of instructions users will know to use bottom playbar for video control and my flash buttons for slide navigation. Its a bit clunky, but this is what I have for now until the engineers have time to target the following:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1090685?tstart=0
PS I'm sure a simple javascript code could fix this, but for me javascript isn't so easy;)

  • Flash CS3, Captivate 4 Single File SWF output- playback problems

    Hello,
I am trying to upload a swf file that I created to a website.  I am doing this because that it the only format the site editor will allow me to do.
I tried following the steps in the tutorial on how to embed a swf into a pdf. (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/captivate/articles/movieclip_to_pdf.html)
-The File started as a flv, I opened that it Flash Pro CS3, then exported the file to a SWF (Actionscript3).
-I then created a new Captivate project, and inserted a "Animation" to put in the SWF video.
(I did this because when I tried inserting the flv it only showed it as 3 seconds, when the video is                                     about 40, and it had no audio)
-I chose the option to not show the borders, but show the player skin (Play, pause, etc.) in Captivate.
-I then exported it to a SWF file (It also created the html, etc.)
There was a standalone SWF file created, that when I played with Flash Player, played not a problem, all of the player controls on the skin worked just fine.
However, when I uploaded the swf to the site, only the player conrols showed, and when I tried clicking on the buttons, nothing happened.   When I clicked on the slider,  it just showed where the video was supposed to be "2/1"
Any help would be appreciated a lot, as I am not a flash or captivate expert.  (I just started using a couple of days ago)
    Thank you,

Uhhh, if you want the SWF on the web site, why are you following information for inserting SWF into PDF?
-The File started as a flv, I opened that it Flash Pro CS3, then exported the file to a SWF (Actionscript3).

What you don't realize is that if you insert a 40 second video into a 3 second slide, there is no need to adjust the slide play time. There is an option that is automatically set that keeps the slide from moving on until the video completes playing.
-I then exported it to a SWF file (It also created the html, etc.)
That's normal Captivate behavior. You get a few different files. The intent is to upload them all and point the user to the HTML file. It then loads and plays the SWF.
There was a standalone SWF file created, that when I played with Flash Player, played not a problem, all of the player controls on the skin worked just fine.
However, when I uploaded the swf to the site, only the player conrols showed, and when I tried clicking on the buttons, nothing happened.   When I clicked on the slider,  it just showed where the video was supposed to be "2/1"
    Thank you,
    Chev
When you insert FLV you also have to upload the FLV. Captivate plays it by referencing it externally. It is not embedded into the SWF and remains as a separate file to deal with.

  • Creating learning games with Captivate

Hello all, I am new to Captivate.
I want to create a learning game with Captivate, using an "Adventure" genre and using branched presentations. Possibly using conditional actions and widgets.
The idea is the player would make a series of decisions, and the process would lend itself to learning the subject.
Is it reasonable to expect a game like this could be made in Captivate? Are there any examples of this type of game (developed with Captivate)?
I would like to use the advanced actions power of questions slides in the game, so the decisions the player makes is recorded and informs the evolution of the game, but I am not sure if I can incorporate artwork/animations with question slides. I would like to accumulate data about the player response to drive the game. I would like to drape the question slides in art and animations- making the question slides more graphic and game-like than they are as a default.
As you can see, I have an idea, but do not know enough to know if Captivate is a program that well lends itself to this type of thing.
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Shawn,
As Rick suggested, Flash might be a better alternative to create the flash card. You could then import the animation in Captivate. The drawback will be that you will only be able to see it running when you publish the presentation and manually copy the XML file to the publication folder.
However, you could instead create a static widget and use a "Linked Widget" to deploy your XML file along with the Widget. This way, you should be able to see the Flash cards running in Preview and Publish mode without having to copy the file. I know it works but I never tried to deploy an XML file, only swf files but I don't see why it would not work.

  • Flash in Captivate

Can I import flash animations, i.e., material (motions, media players, simple animations) I created in flash into Captivate?  I want more than flash videos, nothing fancy, but maybe a little more than what Captivate has.
    Thanks

    Hi there
To a certain extent you can. Actually Captivate ships with 175 different Flash Animations to use with it.
If your animation is a looping animation, you will need to create it as a Movie Clip in Flash and drag it to the main Flash stage. Another issue is something called the _root issue. You can read more about that at the link below.

  • Flash and captivate question

    Dear All,
Just a general query (I have tried looking for a solution on the forums to avoid repitition as one user informed me in the past...)
I am using captivate to build an e-learning module for a project and I would like to insert a flash movie on one of the slides in Captivate,
    for example slide 3.
Now, I know that this is perfectly possible and normally ther flash swf etc exists a separate entity in the overall captivate movie and
you can set certain parameters within captivate as you are importing it to the required page.
    BUT...
Is it in ANY way possible to code the original flash movie so that when it is inserted into the captivate file and the overall project is
    published, it interacts with captivate.
If this is confusing, I will give an example.
Let's say this flash movie as stated before is on slide 3 of the captivate file, when the user clicks a button that is contained within the flash
movie 3 times, we go from slide 3 of the captivate file to slide 4?
This would work in a simiar way in flash itself, when I take a movie from out of the library in flash, put it on the timeline in scene 1
and when ity is published a button that it has will enable the user to go from scene 1 to scene 2.
Or, are these 2 applications uncompatible in the aspect that this cannot be done?
    Does this make any sense?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance.
    Keith

The scenario you describe is one of the reasons why Captivate widgets were introduced with Captivate 4.  Many Flash-savvy developers had been adding SWFs to Captivate in previous versions but were finding it difficult to know how to hook into Cp published content at runtime and manipulate what happened.
Widgets were AS2 or AS3 applications (now only AS3 since Cp5) that introduced a whole new world of possibilities.
But to leverage their power you really have to be an AS3 programmer...or know someone who is.
Adobe provided templates to build your own widgets, and there are now at least two other class-based APIs created by widget programmers that can be used to build widgets for Cp4 or Cp5.
Look in the Captivate help files for information about the templates
Look here for information about WidgetFactory API: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/
Look here for information about CpGears API: http://blog.flash-factor.com/category/captivate/cpgears/
Is this what you were wanting?

  • PowerBuilder freezing with Captivate 3

I had the same problem when I bought Captivate 2 and followed
    this advice:
    Quit Adobe Captivate 2.
    Choose Start > Run.
Type regedit and then press OK.
    Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\2
    Double click the string ExesToIgnoreClickEvent.
Change the value from AcroRd32.exe|Acrobat.exe|PB105.EXE to
AcroRd32.exe|Acrobat.exe|{my pb executable} and then press OK.
    Double click the string ExesToIgnoreShowFocusLocChangeEvents.
Change the value from PB105.EXE to {my pb executable} and
    press OK.
Captivate 2 works fine after having made these changes. I
downloaded the trial version of Captivate 3 last week to see if
it's worth upgrading and my PowerBuilder app locks up with the very
first click (with Captivate 3 recording) even though I've changed
the file info as described above.

Next, what "animation" are you referring to that works, then

are you publishing? SWF? EXE? Word output?
What does "off" mean, as in the statement "

  • Issues with Captivate 3 and LMS enrollments to transcript completion

We have issues with courses developed with Captivate 3, that sometimes do not work properly in the LMS.  Some users when they have completed the captivate training, their completion is not moved from in progress/enrollments to completed.  Others have no issues.  What is causing this?  Scorm, Flash, Java??  Any assistance is really appreciated!

In one client where we had a similar issue, I placed an SWF animation on the final slide that ran for the duration of the slide.
The animation looked like a progress bar sending information with text that said it was updating their score and to wait for the window to close:
People would see the animation and then (believe it or not) do as it suggested and wait for the animation to finish, which allowed the Captivate module to close naturally, and stopped our reported issues with the LMS not picking up their score.
Sometimes a simple dummy fix is all you need.
