Flash 8 in iWeb?

Is it possible to embed a Flash 8 video into iWeb pages instead of QuickTime? If so, where can I learn?
Thanks!

Create your file in SWF. Upload this and the MyFlash.html file to your website folder on .Mac - Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/Website folder - or your server. Create an "external" link to this on an iWeb page and select it to open in a new window.
The .Mac URL will be...
http://web.mac.com/username/WebsiteName/MyFlash.html

  • Problem with Flash Menu in iWeb...need help please.

Ok, I designed a flash menu in iWeb and successfully placed it at the top of the site. I then used the "transparent shape" method to make the hyperlinks work properly. I made sure the flash menu was in the back and the transparent shape hyperlinks were in the front. The menu works just fine for me and anyone else using Safari or Mac computers. However, people on Windows using Firefox, IE or Chrome are unsuccessful in clicking the links. They do not work for them.
Here's my website's homepage link. Keep in mind, if you look there on Safari, it will work but it does not when on a Windows computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is clearly the problem that the flash menu is opening in front of the hyperlinked shapes but I'm not sure how to make sure they stay on front.

I don't know the answer to that one but you can use the Mouse Over and Click method I have described on this page....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Tricks/MouseOver.html
    It works in IE.
Its just a question of making up two different buttons with text for each link, taking a screenshot and cropping them and adding the JPEGs to your upload folder.
You can make up the buttons on an iWeb page and then delete them when you have taken the screenshots. I usually do this sort of thing in Keynote so that I can save them in case I need to modify them.

  • Squashed Flash Video in iWeb

This is a stumper and I could really use a freah perspective on it.
I have been trying to get a Flash movie on my iWeb site bu using the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site here...
    http://iwebunlimited.com/iweb-tips/iweb-tip-9-flash-video-in-iweb-jw-player/
The problem I have is that when I publish my changes in iWeb and point my browser to the page the movie is on, the movie plays as a litttle squashed box in the middle of the player.  Let me explain...
I followed the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site to the letter.  I have downloaded the .swf and .js files, placed them in a folder called "flash" on my iDisk as well as my .flv movie file and a screengrab of the same size.
I have changed all the parameters in the HTML code to point to my iDisk and the relavent files.
I have changed the video dimensions to that of my newly encoded .flv video  (640 x 352 - in ffmpegx)
When I go to my movie page in my browser, I see the still shot I took as a place marker in the right dimensions.  Yet when I play the movie, although the player is the size I requested - 640 x 352 - the actual movie plays inside it as a squashed box.  Take a look at the screenshot below to see what I mean.
The video should fill the black areas, but whatever I do this is the result...
Here is the info on the flash video I uploaded to my iDisk and how is should look...
And here is the HTML code with the same dimensions input in iWeb before I published.  I have changed my username back to "username" for this screenshot FYI...
The weird thing is - I uploaded a flash movie a couple of years ago to the same page and it plays ok - looks fine.  Shame I can't remember how the **** I did it!  I wondered if having 2 flash movies on the same page were causing the problem, so I deleted the old one.
    Same result.
I created a new fresh movie page and tried that - same result again.
I thought that maybe each movie needed it's own set of .swf and .js files as the 2 movies are of different dimensions, each player would need to be different dimensions also....?
So I even added another set of .swf and .js files.  I tried copying the 2 sets of movie files to individual folders, but iWeb didn't see them at all - it only seems to see them is they are in a folder called "flash" in my "Web >Sites" folders on my iDisk.
I was wondering even if it was down to the encoding of the video, which I did in ffmpegx.  I did have to do it in a roundabout way...
In Final Cut Pro I exported a full quality QT movie - ProRes422 1280 x 720 that turned out at 5.32 GB and 12 mins 5 secs in duration.
This is not recognised by ffmgegx, looks like the ProRes codec has it confused.
So I put it into Compressor and re-encoded it as a H.264 movie 1280 x 720 that turned out at 1.72 GB.
When I put this into ffmgegx it encoded just fine, but stopped after 7 mins and 7 secs.
I tried a hundred different ways but it always stopped at 7m7s...
So I eventually dropped it onto a droplet I downloaded somewhere to convert videos for Vimeo HD  - 1280 x 720.  I dropped this into ffmpegx and Hey Presto - it worked!
So I now have my full length .flv movie at my 640 x 352 on my iDisk with iWeb pointing at it and the correct dimensions input in the HTML code, and it STILL comes out squashed....
if anyone has a clus what is causing this or what I am doing wrong, I will be forever in your debt!
I know this is an epic mail, but I wanted to give all the info I can......

If you are using a SWF or FLV you don't need to use the JW player assets. Just reference the file in an iFrame code....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Flash-SWF-FLV.html
Adjust the dimensions of the frame to fit the movie and control bar if necessary.
This page shows the JW using the embed code and the javascript version...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
If you want to us the JW player using the javascript shown on the iWeb unlimited site, you need to adjust the player frame dimensions to suit the control bar position that you specified. I notice that this website doesn't mention the fact that the control bar position can be changed - normally "bottom" or "over". If you set the control bar to "bottom", the frame height needs to be increased. Also the javascript shown is not the latest one where you can specify all the custom options.
If you use the javascript that I employed for the second example on the iWeb for Musicians site, you can do a lot of customizing and specify flash with fallback to HTML5 or vice versa.

  • Flash files in iWeb - Thanks

While it's been possible to place flash files in iWeb with workarounds in the past it's now easy with the new version. The HTML snippet feature has saved the day, Thanks Apple! I can hardly imagine the net without Flash.
To see an example go here:
    http://web.mac.com/catucker/InsideOutside/Alternatives.html

Like ive said in this topic, i need to know where Altartifact put his files in his iDisk, too.
Ive tried all that i know, location in the Web folder, site folder, "my website" folder... Link with "../", with .//"... xD
theres is my code, any idea ?

    </object>
Maybe there is an error in this... because ive tried to use it with a FTP server, and the ".swf" animation is "not charged"... and its in the main page files folder !
I cant understand... this code was working with iWeb Enhancer... :/

  • Flash 8 to iWeb

Hi people, I got kinda confused with using flash 8 and iWeb. My question is, if I have done a flash using Flash 8, how do I bring it over to iWeb? And which format should I use .fla or .swf ?
    Thanks...
    :>

Create your file in SWF. Upload this and the MyFlash.html file to your website folder on .Mac - Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/Website folder - or your server. Create an "external" link to this on an iWeb page and select it to open in a new window.
    The .Mac URL will be...

  • CAN YOU USE A FLASH TEMPLATE IN IWEB?

I have recently created my website using iWeb....albeit with much help from this forum...and am very pleased with the results.
I would like to, however, have my site open with a Flash introduction. I have seen many affordable Flash Templates for sale on the web and am wondering it any of these would successfully work with iWeb. If so:
    1. What specs would I need to look for?
    2. Does anyone know of a site that sells iWeb compatible Flash intros?
Thanks for all of your answers to my previous posts and hopefully this one as well.

    Sandie,
Yes I have used Keynote as an intro and I once used it in swf format. I ended up liking the QT better.
    Here is the intro:
    http://web.mac.com/abenningfield/iWeb/CameraObscura/Camera%20Obscura%20Intro.htm l
As an example...here is another I created in Keynote:
    http://web.mac.com/abenningfield/iWeb/ArchivalGenealogyVault/Archival%20Genealog y%20Vault%20Intro.html
But as far as Adobe Flash goes.....I don't have the pro version (I have Basic) and I got a fully functional demo for 30days. Yeah it did cost about 400 bucks after the 30 day trial. Yikes.
On the right side of this page is a third party flash file that I bought for a dollar. I used the free demo of Flash and put it on my site. After you format the flash file you want.....you don't need to keep Flash unless you want it (I did).
    http://web.mac.com/abenningfield/iWeb/CameraObscura/Links.html
But Keynote is great...and yes Kirk is right....wait for the new version.
Also here is another app that converts video to swf:

  • Flash files in iWeb site hosted by Godaddy?

Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
I'm trying to see how to use a few .swf files (flash) in my site which I built and maintain with iWeb.
I had set them up back in the .mac days and they were able to work. When .mac ended, I switched the hosting to Dropbox which worked fine (though a little slow) but I guess I hadn't checked those .swf animations. When I was preparing to move the site to GoDaddy recently, the animations weren't working.
My site is now up and running on GoDaddy and I'd like to get those animations working. I've googled/searched for information, but all the info seems to be about using idisk or .mac. Since those no longer exist, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
    Thanks!

Upload the files in a folder to the root folder on the server using an FTP app. This page is about audio files but it's the same method for flash...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/AudioFiles/Upload.html
Then reference each file in an iframe code. See this page for more info...

  • Video quality of Flash animation in iWeb

I'm inserting a flash movie (html snippet) into my iweb 08 site, but the resolution of the video is not as high as the original .swf file. This is my workflow:
-Go to LiveType and create a scrolling banner.
-Export the movie, then open it in Compressor and encode it with a different format. I do this because I've noticed that some of my LiveType animations don't play in my website if I don't encode them properly. I don't have to do this for any of my regular video files.
-Once I have the video file created, I use Visual Hub to create the .swf (flash) file.
-When I open the .swf file, the quality of the video animation is perfect.
-Then I create the html snippet in iweb 08 by copying and pasting the necessary code to make Flash work.
When I upload my site I can see some degradation in the quality of the video animation. Is not much but it is there... Has anyone seen this before? Is there a workaround for this?

I don't know that much about PC's, but you need to open the browser and click on the preferences, I think in the same way as you would do with a Mac and click on select javascript.
Rather than Firefox, get them to download a copy of Safari for PC from the Apple site.
Other than this I am not really sure of a solution, other than telling them to buy a Mac instead!!

  • Flash Banner in iWeb

I have a flash banner that I want to put on my web page and I don't know how to do it in iWeb.
It doesn't show up in my media browser so I can't just drop it in like a movie or photo.
When I click and drag it onto the page, I just get a rectangle shape outline with the name of the file on it, but I don't see the actual file.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

    Hi There,
I have a flash movie .swf playing on a site I am working on www.systematic-uk.com
    Insert html snippet
    Insert the following code;
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0, 0" width="334" height="194" align="middle"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.ckis.co.uk/flash/systematiccgi.swf"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" width="334" height="194" align="middle" src="http://www.ckis.co.uk/flash/systematiccgi.swf" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object>
Of course, change the location of my movie for your one and resize accordingly.
    Works a treat.

  • Importing Flash Animations Into iWeb...

I noticed that in the few days I have had the privilege of using iWeb, I have noticed that Flash animations that I have created only show up as links on the page, and not actual Flash animations (meaning, when wanting to show the Flash animations on a website, they only show up as a small link, and don't automatically run on the website....
So, my question is this: Does iWeb support Flash animations? If so, how do you import them into iWeb without them simply showing up as links? Thanks in advance for your swift response....

Just any theme download from a site is not enough. The 3rd party themes must be designed specifically for iWeb and, as such, should have an installer included.
Otherwise, start with either the white, black, or formal themes and use graphic files from those themes to create a custom design.

  • ATTN iweb geniuses: flash controller in iweb?

Hi, I embeded a flash movie onto my iweb page. I used the code found here http://web.mac.com/catucker/InsideOutside/iWeb.html
So i made my movie in flash and put the swf, flv, html page and swf controller that flash published in a folder on the server for the code to reference. The movie works fine but the contoller is not there. All the files are in the same folder on the server.
When i view the html page that flash made it works but not when published in iweb.
The site is www.legsdontwork.com there are flash movies on the main page and the links at the bottom lead to flash movies. All show up fine but no swf controller.
    Any ideas?

Hello , I visited both the sides you mentioned . www.legsdontwork.com does not work but http://legsdontwork.com/docs/11_4.html does !
web.mac.com.catucker does work . I created a folder (let`s say folderX) and placed the swf and flv files in that folder . That folder then in Idisk/web/sites. . But strange enough I write http://web.mac.com/username/folderX/file.swf in the html snippet . So without mentioning the WEB and the SITES folder . If you see what I mean . But it works ... ! I only found after a few days trying and trying ....
Could you please help me by telling me where I can find the swf skin you use at
http://legsdontwork.com/docs/11_4.html . I like a skin without edges so all background stays black and especially your play/mute bar . Is it possible you send me one so I can use it with my files ? I work with FLIX PRO and have severe problems finding the right swf skin ...( please visit www.emilejansen.nl to see what I mean . I want my movies projected on black in a way that you only see the movie and not the player/skin)
