Flash 8 Masking

I have been using masking in Flash 8 to creating handwriting
and drawing effects. A few weeks ago I had to replace my computer
and ended up getting Vista as the OS, now the effect won't work any
more. Are there any known issues with masking and Vista? If so, is
there anything I can do to fix it, other than getting CS3?

Flash Mask on Captivate Movie

Hi
I am new to Captivate, but Advance flash user. I have bunch of captivate movie that I am embeding in my flash app with loadMovie action. Now I notice that when I load captivate movie in another swf with a mask on top it then non of the Close Caption text shows up and when I put it up over the Mask then text in close caption shows up fine. I am not sure why but I can't get rid of the mask and need know how can I put the captivate movie under the flash mask.

Flash Masks with multiple objects

hey i was wondering if anyone knows whats with flash and
masking an item to multiple graphics within a graphic
IE i have a bunch of squares. they are each individual
graphic objects. there are about 40 of these squares in another
graphic called squareContainer
im trying to mask a bitmap across squareContainer but when i
do it it will only mask against one of the 40 or so squares - how
do i get it to mask against all?

Flash Masking problems

hi
i am having problems with creating a mask in Flash 8. I have
created the mask and stoke. I want a wavy line to gradually appear.
The animation stutters and once the line has appeared it flashes up
again. Something is wrong. Can you please point me in the right
direction. Perhaps I can send / upload the .fla file for someone to
check.

it all depends on how you have your file structured. This
should be no problem, post your fla for us to look into.
you probably just need a stop() action on the last
frame.

Flash mask appears correct in Safari but not IE?

Hi,
This is weird because I cannot see how a browser can have any affect on a SWF file animation. This SWF contains masking of images. The SWF appears perfectly in Safari, and for some strange reason, one of the three masks is not applied when viewing the SWF in IE (as if the image is 'released').
Any ideas as to why this might be or what I can do to stop this from occurring?

I NEED FLASH HELP/ NOT SEEING SOME SITES

I have a dell computer with a ati2400 video card. I
have three browsers, IE7, firefox3.0, k-meleon. I had Opera,but had
to unistall it because it would play only 80% of the flash videos
yet fiefox and k-meleon played them all I installed k-meleon after
uninstalling opera. I installed flash player 10.0123 for mozilla
browsers on saturday and everything was fine. Today I found that
all my browsers would only show about 85% of flash videos. I'm
freaking out because IE7 is a different flash plugin than firefox.
This is what i found when I scanned flash players. I have the
upgrade plugin for mozilla browsers 10.0,0.12, then I have two
flash plugins 9.0.124, one flash player Helper 9.0.115, and two
NPSWF32_FLASHUTIL.
I am at a loss when it comes to flash players. I upgrade
when I get a notice, but I know your not supposed to have more than
one player for mozilla browsers and one for microsoft browsers?
Right? Is this why now i have the same problem as i did with my
opera browser? I tried a system restore to before the flash upgrade
10.012 was installed and nothing changed, i still had the same
problem. HELP, What gets uninstalled, what stays and will this take
care of my flash problems? I spent months with the Opera problem
and read on opera and firefox forums people who had flash problems
say they uninstalled and reinstalled flash and no change. Sorry
about the long post, I'm very sick and this is the best i can
do.

that I was asked to make image and text changes to. I don't know
what the repetitive aa and bb does. The clip works well except that
I can not get it to Stop after the last image, it just keep going
and going...

Adobe Flash CS5 - help needed animating a sentence so each word fades in seperately

I am attempting to make a simple music video.
My aim is to have lyrics to the piece of audio appear in synchronisation.
There does not seem to be a simple way to fade in (and out) each word singularly allowing the alignment and sentence position to remain constant.
Please help.

Put the words on the stage as you want them to show when completed. Set that layer in the timeline as a masked layer. Add a new layer on top of that layer, set it to be a mask layer. In this new layer draw a rectangle that covers just the first word of your text. Move down a few frames and add a new keyframe to the mask layer. At this keyframe make the rectangle larger, to cover two words. Repeat as needed until all of the words are covered.

Masking multiple layers to achieve some effects

Hi,
I understand (at least a little) about how masking works. As far as I see it reveals layer underneath it.
What I am wondering if there is some ways to reveals different(multiple layers) layers or masking is done only on one layer.
I have searched and some pages suggest it is possible to mask multiple layers but it doesnt actually show any examples or step by step tutorials.
Any help would be appreciated,

1) I just want to ask if there any way to make gloss mask on letters in Edge animate? and if the answer is yes, what is the way?
2) As you tells, Edage animate dosnt support in old browsers (like explorer 8) and we need to defin
fallback.....So the big question is how to that :-)?

Not sure I understand completely your interesting Flash masking technique, but it seems that the layer you use as a mask is a free-form shape (deriving from the object you make shine).
The problem in Edge is that masking is limited to rectangular masks (you can trim with overlay = hidden and with the four clip values).
A workaround is to make the freeform masking in your graphics editor and export it as a PNG32 file that you'll import into Edge :

Advanced Masking Question

Hey everybody.
I'm currently working a project where you can do the tired
old "dress up a virtual character" in Flash. Of course everything
else was easy about it, drag and drop clothing articles on the
character, etc. However, this particular project had a bit of a
twist. The end-user will be allowed to upload their photo, and then
super-impose their head onto the top of the character they are
dressing up.
Originally I figured we'd just use a pre-sized oval mask, and
have the user resize the photo into the oval mask so that their
head fits in it. But the client is inquiring as to whether it would
be possible to allow the user to perhaps draw an outline around the
portion of the photo they want to extract, and then have Flash mask
it that way.
Do any of you know if this is possible? I presume it's going
to be a mixture of the drawing API and various other actionscript
voodoo, but since I'll be dealing with basically dynamically
masking a dynamically-loaded image, I figured I'd do some research
on the feasability of this before wasting time, since I have one
week left to completion.

you might be able to achieve this with the BitmapData class
draw method, drawn to a MC and then use setMask();

I need Flash help

Hello. I am new at Flash so action scripting is not so
simple. I have an action script that is not stopping my clip at the
last image and when it starts the clip, it starts with the last
image. Please let me know where I should place STOP() or can you
refer me to someone or someplace where I can get immediate help.
Please see the attached coding and let me know how I should
fix it or what I should add, I tried placing STOP at the bottom of
the coding but it didn't work. Thank you for your help.

How to create a semi circle swipe?

Hi,
I am quite experienced in Photshop and other elements however I am an absolute novice when it comes to flash.
What I am trying to create is an effect for a logo in which the motif in a semi circle shape which i want to appear in a wipe fashion starting left to right so that in wipe across and the shape appears in full at the end.
The shape in a rainbow....this would also have the company name below the logo which would be visible from start to finish. I have attached the picture of the logo. I would like the gold pot to also appear in the swipe of the rainbow.
Is it possible to be able to create this affect and also could you help me through this as much as possible.

Look into using a mask over the rainbow. A mask will only display what is beneath it. Make the mask a rectangular movieclip with its registration point top center and rotate it so that it gradually covers the rainbow. If you make it large enough and center it under the rainbow and then gradually rotate it clockwise it should give the wipe effect you are looking for. As for the pot of gold, I'd also do that separately with a mask being moved down over it.
If you have no experience using masks in Flash, you should hopefully be able to find a tutorial via Googling "Flash mask tutorial".

How can I mask on flv file in flash cs4?

I am new to Flash CS4. I saw one video on how to use flv file in flash and mask it. It is working fine when I am using the following option while importing a video file to flash:
Load external video with playback component
But when I tried with the following option it doesn't show the background, it shows only movie which is playing nicely. But not the background which has a bill board.
Embed FLV in SWF and play in timeline
It seems the mask is not working with this option.
How to solve this problem? Please help.

I Tried with CS4 by creating mask layer and importing video , layers created were same as you have created and it is working for me .

Mask Layer not working in cropping to stage Flash

I've read through umpteen Flash threads of frustrated users who export SWF and anything visible outside the stage appears in the SWF when opened in a browser. None of the solutions have worked for me. My file is called statement_onlineheader.fla. It can be seen here http://www.mediafire.com/?yrmgnoynihw. Anyone know why this does not work for me?
I have my mask layer above a folder containing all other layers. I have also tried moving the mask layer above individual layers. Same result. Stuff outside the stage appears in the exported SWF.

Very true. So what do you think is wrong with my file? The top layer is marked "Mask" when I control-click it, and it doesn't matter if I put it over an individual layer or not. The top layer is a rectangle the size of the stage, yet this layer (which is checked as a mask) does not mask what is below it.

On the stage, you do it the same as in previous version of
Flash. Right click the layer your mask is on and select the 'mask'
option. It will mask any layers grouped under it.
In ActionScript you would do it like this:

Flash 10 3D + Masking?

In Flash 10 Player with Flex 3.2 and Flex4.0 SDK I'm seeing
an issue where, whenever I set an object's z, scaleZ, rotateX, or
rotateY properties, any masking is ignored.
Anyone else aware of this issue?

To refine this a bit:
It seems that if object A is a 2D sprite with a mask, and
then objects B & C are 3D children of A, objects B & C will
be correctly masked by A's mask.
However, if A is positioned in 3D, the mask suddenly stops
working.
