Flash 8 Pro V. Sorenson Squeeze.

Hi guys,
I have searched on previous forums for exporting a 4 minute film for the web (.flv) I am a bit confused as some rcommend Sorenson and others Flash 8 Pro. Can anyone tell me what will produce the best quality output?
Like others - I have seen some superb looking results on the web, and want to achieve the same quality.
Thanks
Stephen

Flash 8 offers the On2 VP6 Codec which is there latest for compressing video, it even allows the use of alpha channels. If you have Flash 8 you can export to an .flv file out of Final Cut using the Quicktime conversion. You will see a flv option. You can also export from Quicktime itself. The only draw back to this way is that it is a single pass and although you can customize your compressions I don't think you can save them (or at least I haven't figured out how to yet) to use again with having to re-enter the set-up every time.
Sorenson Squeeze is a great compression program but if you wish to use the On2 VP6 codec you will have to buy it as a separate plug-in. Otherwise you will have to use the Spark Pro codec. Now the nice thing about Squeeze is that it does 2 pass for better looking compression and can save your custom settings.
Mostly I use the Flash 8 to make the On2 VP6 files for a quick client review if they are not here in the edit. I use Flash because it is in just about every browser in use today, this way clients don't have to download anything to be able to view the work.
To tell you the truth I have gotten some nice looking web video playing around with the On2 VP6 settings, but the best looking compressions I have done have come using the h.264 codec, it may be a bit bigger file size but sometimes it is worth the extra bandwidth.
Good Luck

  • Quicktime Pro VS Sorenson Squeeze which is better for uploading to YouTube?

I'm thinking of buying Quicktime Pro or Sorenson Squeeze - which is better for uploading to YouTube? Which would give my video better quality?
Also, with regard to Sorenson Squeeze: The website says these are its requirements - could someone explain what each of them means in logical terms?
    Mac OS X system requires:
Power PC with G5 processor or greater or Intel processor - (I'll be using this program with a MacBook Pro - will this work?)
Mac OS X 10.4 or later - (Again, will this work with a MacBook Pro?)
    512 MB of RAM
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
DirectX 9.0b or later (What is this and how will I get it? Is it free?)
    * Mac users must have the Flip4Mac plugin from Telestream (Is this plugin free?) ** Windows only feature * Plugin sold separately
Please be as specific as possible.
Thank you so much in advance for answering my questions! It is really helpful!

    First.
You have no control over the conversion to Flash video (done during the YouTube upload) if you use QuickTime .mov format.
    Second.
YouTube does allow H.264 Video for its "high quality" display so you would want a QuickTime .mov container.
Now you are even more confused than when you started.
Flip4Mac allows export from QuickTime (and apps like iMovie that use it) to Windows Media Player (.wmv) formats. They will also be converted to Flash Video by YouTube so you gain nothing by using it.
You don't need Squeeze, QuickTime Pro or the Flip4Mac upgrades. Just use iMovie 7 (part of iLife '08).

  • Firefox will not play WebM video encoded by Sorenson Squeeze Pro 8

A short video encoded to WebM using Sorenson Squeeze Pro 8.0.48. Chrome and Opera play the HTML5 webm video with a problem. Firefox 10.0.1 and 11 just display a dimmed window with and "X" in the middle and will not load or play anything. Sorenson is a commercially proven product as confirmed by Chrome and Opera, so what gives with Firefox?

We have just completed our webm testing with Telestream's Episode Pro 6.2.1.1 and not surprisingly, the same results as Sorenson Squeeze Pro 8.
Chrome, Opera and Safari browsers play HTML5 webm video as expected.
Firefox rigidly enforces the server .htaccess configuration to specifically state Mime Types, then it will/does work.

  • Pro CS4 Media Encoder vs Sorenson Squeeze Quality?

    Guys,
When outputting a video to Flash (for this discussion, let's assume Flash V8, medium size.....with the Web as the target audience), does anyone have experience using both PProCS4 Media Encoder and Sorenson Squeeze---being able to comment of the quality of each?   Is CS4 Media Encoder doing as good a job (apples to apples) as Sorenson Squeeze would do?    For general info, they want SD video in 4:3 ratio.
I've want to provide the best quality video I can to a client who is selling web training for a professional methodology.  They are using video to provide additional visual support to their audio segments.
    TIA,
    jd

I purchased Squeeze after the release of CS4, the Adobe Media Encoder was fine in CS3.  I noticed after installing CS4 that the end product (usually Quicktime, AVI, Mpeg-2 DVD and BluRay for me) was soft and fuzzy.  I dug around various forums and found that many had this issue with the AME in CS4 and saw Sorenson Squeeze highly recommended.  It should be noted that I use a Matrox RT.X2 card with my CS3 and now CS4 environment.  I now export out an uncompressed i-Frame Matrox AVI and bring it into Squeeze and it works great.
I am finding the same issue in a non-Matrox project.  We are doing a spot now that was shot in DVCPRO-HD.  The image is gorgeous in PP, however when I use the AME, the resulting file is soft and dull.
Question to anyone who can help.  In a non-Matrox project, what can I use to get it into Squeeze?  With my Matrox projects, the uncompressed Matrox export bypassed the AME and gave me a clean image to bring into Squeeze.  In my current non-Matrox DVCPRO-HD project I tried uncompressed AVI but it reduced my size to 720x480, and it reduced the quality.  How do I get my footage out of Premiere and into Squeeze without using the AME?
    Thanks,
    Marty

  • Compressor vs Sorenson Squeeze Pro

This is most likely a rather stupid question but can somebody please tell me the difference between Compressor and Sorenson Squeeze Pro?  I have been using Compressor for a couple of years with my FCP X output files but was just wondering whether Sorenson Squeeze holds any benefits and is worth the extra financial outlay?
    Thanking you

    Take a look at this.
Sorenson Squeeze is designed to support production companies  with higher volume compression needs, and those that need a more extensive selection of output formats.
Is it worth the extra money? For me, yes, but you need to form your own opinion.
I believe there is a trial here.

For Squeeze I have version 4.5 installed, is that not ok?
What I did do: I activeded the On2 VP6 for MacroMedia Flash plug-in as my boss told me that this would give a better video resolution (see www.parleys.com).
Then I selected the FLV : VP6_384K for squeezing... which does not work at all..
If I knew what my previous settings were I'd be sure this is not my problem?!
You have to have 4.5.6 for it to work. Unfortunately this is a paid upgrade.

  • Sorenson Squeeze 5 questions

    Hi all
My office owns a copy of Sorenson Squeeze 5 bought by an ex-employee for some reason so now I using it and trying to figure it out. I know this is the Adobe forum but it seems that the SOrenson forums gets basically no help so I know all of you are smart cookies.
First, everything I create in After Effects is usually self-contained.....no imported video, just motion graphics. I am looking for the best way to export files from AE to Sorenson (which render/export settings and format(avi, Mov.)
Second, in Sorenson I have no options to encode in Windows Media or Quicktime. I have Quicktime Pro and have the "use Legacy cedecs checked" I really need AVI files or Mov files out of Sorenson or its worthless to me. I assume I need a plug-in or a Codec but I can not figure it out and I have searched extensively. I usually create graphics in AE and then import to Premeire to add sound and lay everything out. Obviously this wont work as right now, I only can get MP4 out of Sorenson and no workie in Premeire.
My ideal would be to get from AE to Sorenson, encode, import to Premiere, export final project to Sorenson for final render/burn.
Any ideas or is this confusing as all heck??
Any help is much appriciated and thanks in advance.

Seems like you have Sorenson Squeeze for Flash. They have several versions, and apparently you have the one tailored just for Flash encoding.
Of course, as of CS4, the Adobe Media Encoder can now also be used as a standalone application and it features more advanced Flash encoding options, like 2 pass VBR, etc.  I mean more advanced options that the ones you get in the AME dialog when you invoke it from AE.
If you have Production Premium or Master Collection, you can encode from Adobe Media Encoder without having to render an intermediate file from AE - this is, AME can open the AE Comp through Dynamic Link.

  • Can't import movie created in Sorenson Squeeze

I work with AVID and Windows at work... don't hold it against me. I'm a total Mac guy at home.
I have created some QuickTime movies with Sorenson Squeeze using the standard DV/DVCPro codec. People with Final Cut Pro tell me they cannot import my movies which seems strange. I think they are getting an "unsupported format" error message. Oddly enough when I export directly out of the AVID using the same DV/DVCPro codec they can import my movies. It is very frustrating because I want to use Sorenson to make all my movies (quicktime, windows media, mpeg2, etc) because it can do it all at the same time.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I have created a simple 6 minute movie in Photo Booth and have been completely unable to import the movie into iMovie. I would like to be able to add music to my movie via iMovie and I'm currently at a loss. Any help?
Not sure why MPEG Streamclip would have problems with the file but it is not uncommon for iMovie '08 to balk at the import of clips under certain conditions. For instance, what kind of tracks are included in your File? Any "Tween" tracks. As I am running an old G5 PPC model, my use of Photo Booth is very limited in terms of effect compatibility and he files I am able to create are limited to simple MPEG4/AAC and, as such do import. Can you post a copy for examination or can you check the "Properties" window and report what you find? Also, as a possible workaround, have you tried importing the file into GarageBand (which doesn't have all of iMovie '08's import limitations) and add your audio track there?

  • .flv files Exported from Sorenson Squeeze

    Hi There,
I'm trying to convert a QuickTime file to a .flv file using
Sorenson Squeeze (MAC platform) and my audio is popping when I
preview the squeezed file in SorensonFLVPlayer.
The audio does not pop in my QT file.
My settings for the compression are as follows:
    Codec: Fraunhofer MP3
    Data Rate: 64 Kbps
    Sample Size: 16
    Sample Rate: 44100
    Channels: Mono
I've tried changing them around and I get the same result.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix or work around this? I've
tried using no compression for the audio and it just outputs crazy
    static.
Is there a way in Flash that I can sync separate video and
audio files? Maybe I could export video only from Sorenson and
export audio from elsewhere and re-sync in Flash.
    Any help would be wonderful!
    Thanks!

I've had similar problems with Sorenson and I reverted to
    using the Flash 8
    encoder, which worked fine.

  • Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 Settings

    Hi,
I've been using Compressor 2 in the past to encode my FCP projects into MPEG2 for DVD.
I purchased Sorenson Squeeze recently for some Flash work but wanted to give it a try for encoding my MPEG2 instead of Compressor.
How do I get my FCP project into Sorenson?
Any advice on settings for Sorenson?
In Compressor I used 2 Pass VBR 4.5-6 bit rate. I know Sorenson only has a 1 pass VBR, but Im not sure how there bitrate settings work.
    Any tips much appreciated.
    Mike

Michael, to get your project into Sorenson just export out of FCP as a quicktime file (no need to make it self-contained) and drag the .mov onto the Sorenson window. Then choose a setting from the menu (or create a new one) and just drag this onto the project that appears in the main window - then 'squeeze' it.
Settings are very dependant on the length of your media. For projects under 60 minutes, I always use a CBR of 8.2 and make sure my PCM audio file is compressed to 128-192kbps ac3 (I use a droplet created in Compressor 2 for this so it's really easy). I must say that Sorenson's output is a lot nicer than the equivalent Compressor version - sometimes it's really obvious! You haven't wasted your money there.

  • Sorenson Squeeze question

I just got squeeze and love it for encoding to Flash. One question, and I ask it here because the Sorenson forums are totally dry. I have been asked to create an flv with the size 15-30MB (or Medium setting)
Right now the ones I create end up being around 200MB.

I'm really having a hard time with this and I need to deliver this file. If I change the max file size to 30MB, the picture looks terrible! Somehow the previous editor was able to do this http://www.berdonllp.com/ecast/
I'm using Sorenson Squeeze 6 to create the flv.
The one on their site which I downloaded, is 15MB and 560kbps Data Rate. And the quality is decent.

  • Sorenson Squeeze Necessary?

I am purchasing Final Cut Studio 2, should I also buy Sorenson Squeeze to put videos online.
(I know that final cut has a compressor built in)
    Enjoy your day!

Probably, but Sorenson's pro versions of their own codec you'll not have. (Sorenson 3 pro) and you will not have the ability to make WMF's...without Squeeze or Episode...
However... the makers of Episode are coming up with a plug in for Compressor 3 that will add these features. Don't think it's out yet though.

  • Sorenson Squeeze in CS5

I am about to move up to CS5 from CS3. With it I have been using Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 for my compression utility. Right now (or until next Thursday) sorenson is offering version 6.5 for a $200 upgrade fee, for me a savings of about $400.
Question is, tho, whether Squeeze is really necessary with CS5? Does the AME and other presets, etc, render Squeeze useless, or is it still worthwhile to use that package?
    Thanks,
    Bill Zens

Take this for what it's worth (heh--not much ), but here's my experience:
I purchased Squeeze 4.5 (or maybe it was 4.8?) for Flash back when I was running CS3. I was regularly delivering Flash video files, and wanted to use the VP6 codec--which CS3 had, but only with single-pass encoding. The quality was pretty iffy, so Squeeze was worth the money to get good looking Flash video encodes.
Around the release of CS4, Squeeze 5 came out; I paid to play. However, in CS4, we had multi-pass Flash encoding and the quality was pretty much on par with what Squeeze was outputting, so Squeeze started collecting dust.
Somewhere along the line, Sorenson launched Sorenson 360, their online video distribution and playback system, which integrated with Squeeze. There was also the ability to do client reviews, so I started using Squeeze again. There was the extra step of encoding an intermediate file, but the review system made up for that.
Then came CS5 and 64-bit goodness (plus a new computer ). Encoding to whatever was and is a lot faster than CS4 and Squeeze, but I still liked the review system. About that time, I got a great upgrade price (same deal that I think you're looking at) to go from the "Flash" version of Squeeze to the full version of the new Squeeze 6 with all supported encoding formats. Some of the new filters and options were nice, but I was finding Squeeze to be pretty slow (it's only 32-bit) and I had a lot of problems with stability with some formats and the inability to import others. One thing I have always HATE HATE HATED about Squeeze is that they included ffdshow in the install which is supposed to increase the format support. However, installing that is a big no-no on an edit system with Premiere...
That said, I still liked the 360 review service (I don't really use it for "hosting"), even if it wasn't perfect. I wasn't crazy about still having to export an intermediate file from Premiere to use in Squeeze--especially since I was having to resort to uncompressed AVIs and MOVs because anything else would bring Squeeze to a screeching halt--and there were a number of bugs that I'd discovered and submitted to the Sorenson folks. Surprisingly, many of these were addressed in Squeeze 6.5 (the current version).
But then things changed. Right about then, Adobe released CS Review for Premiere, and with that, the circle was (more or less) complete. No more intermediate files. No more slow encodes (from Squeeze, that is). No more crashing (with Squeeze, that is). Much better and more integrated review system. With some changes to the CS Review service (one of my requests has already come to life!), it will be the perfect solution and I will never have to use Squeeze again.
I really wanted to like Squeeze--as you can tell, I've given it more than a fair shake. However, I think it's turned into a big ball of bloat that is not very stable and really doesn't produce significantly better output than what I'm able to achieve with Premiere and AME. It's far slower, and the fact that I need to feed it a huge space-and-time-consuming intermediate file makes it not very user friendly. There is no communication between Premiere and Squeeze, so those intermediates will be a necessity until an exporter module is in place (which I'd say is never going to happen). And for me, the 360 review system is nowhere near as robust, well-designed, flexible, and integrated as CS Review is with Premiere.
Suffice to say, I will be giving no more of my money to Sorenson for what I feel is a subpar one-trick-pony. Do with that what you will
