Flash 8 support in Director MX (ver 9.0)

there is new support for Flash 8 SWF files in MX 2004. This is
great and has been highly anticipated by many users. Unfortunately,
I'm using Director MX (ver 9.0) and have a need for the support as
well. My only option at this point is to convince the department to
upgrade to 2004. This is unfortunate only because there are rumors
of a new version of Director to be released. Does anyone know if I
buy 2004 now if the new version will be a free upgrade? Or if there
is something I can do to get Flash 8 SWFs to play in MX (ver 9.0)
until the new version comes out which we will purchase.

Adobe has not released any information about the pricing for
the next
version of Director, upgrade or otherwise, so anything that
anyone says
on this board about it is purely speculation. But that said,
I would
very seriously doubt that it would be a free upgrade.
I have not tried this, but you can try to download the 10.1
update from
Adobe's site and pull out the Flash Asset xtra. Put that into
your
xtras folder, and it may allow you to work with newer Flash
files. Or
it may not. But it is worth a try. Be sure to back up any
files you
overwrite, since it may very well cause problems.

Flash movie in director heard but not seen... mostly not seen!

Using flash i made a flash movie to use as an intro to my
director project, I imported the flash movie into director and
placed it on the stage. When i play the director file i can hear
the audio from the flash movie but cannot see the flash movie,
untill right near the end i have an image on a motion tween in the
flash movie which i can see.
Can anybody tell me why i cannot see the rest of the flash
movie?

I'm guessing you're using Flash 8 and haven't updated
Director for Flash 8
compatibility.
Go to:
http://www.adobe.com/support/director/downloads.html
make sure you've downloaded and installed the 10.1 update.
Then install the 10.1.1
update. This will update your Flash support.

What a Shame. Flash could have been left in. Many older sites use it and will not be updated anytime soon if ever. Now we have to hack around to get it working ourselves.

Urgent, DEADLINE : Editable Flash field in Director

Following problem
we have Flash Textfields in Director
At start the are not editable, then on demand they are made
editable - .
If there is some text in the field, it becames selected.
Not when I enter some text from keyboard, the text in flash
field
disappears. It looks, like it looses focus or something like
this
But when I press left or right arrow before and then enter
some text, the
text appears in the field as desired.
What can be the cause of this?
And another question - can I simulate klick on left arrow
from director to
flash field?
Any help will be appreciated

TFTP, Protocol does not support listing directories

Hi everyone,
I am trying to install patch for PI 1.4 because of the browser problem. I have downloaded the patch.
I also have read the post https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-26972#comment-22434 and followed the steps described.
I created repository and try to make the tftp server's root directory into the repository, as u can see in the picture below. Is it correct? Because when I want to display the file contain in the repository, the error message shown "Protocol does not support listing directories", what does it mean?

Here's another way:::
1) From your PC launch a CMD Prompt
2) CD to the directory where the patch is installed
3) ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (this is the IP address of the NCS/PI server)
4) login as ftp-user
5) enter the password created during the install of NCS/PI for the ftp user account (if you don’t know it, you can change it by entering
ncs password ftpuser ftp-user password
6) type bin then press return
7) type hash then press return
8) type put
9) login to the CLI of the NCS/PI server as an admin user
10) type dir disk:ftp and you’ll see the file stored in the /localdisk/ftp directory on the disk
11) if you don’t have a repo pointing to disk:ftp then create one using
     a) config t
     b) repository localftp
     c) url disk:/ftp
     d) exit
12) type ncs stop
13) type patch install localftp
Note: if a PC firewall is enabled, you may have to disable it in order to get the file transfer to work

DownloadNetThing fails in Director MX ver.10 under Windows-XP

Hi:
DownloadNetThing and getNetText returns netError 4165 when I
execute following lingo command in Director MX authoring
environment.
netID = downLoadNetThing("

put netDone() ....... This shows 1
put netError() ........ This shows 4165
Now if I paste above http url in Internet Explorer it shows
the content of the text file!
I have installed Director MX ver 10 on Windows-XP (latest
update). There is no antivirus or filewall software installed on my
computer. I tried adding Director MX as application in the
exception list of windows firewall. Still the operation fails.
I would be very much thankful if someone let me know what is
going wrong.

y googled for 4165 an found that can be bad url or file
error.
If fails by url change downloadnetthing by getnettext (like
the help example getNetText ("
http://BigServer.com/sample.txt")),
dont use the browser to test the url, that is because netlingo and
a browser works different (the browser has cache, for example)
after netdone = 1 check nettextresult().
That is to isolate the problem, if this fails, is a net
problem, if not is a file access problem,

Flash support and the iPhone

As a web designer and recent iPhone owner, I'm wondering about flash support for the iPhone. A device that is trying to be on the cutting edge would seem to need it.
As a flash designer I've got my fingers crossed. Great phone though... I'm posting this on it right now.

This is probably the most anticipated feature. I have no doubt that Apple and Adobe are working together to "secure" a version of flash to work with the iPhone.
I'm sure the update will be upon us soon enough

Flash support for Safari on the iPhone

Anyone know/heard anything about Flash support? I'm amazed how limiting browsing the web with iPhone is w/out it.

I think the main problem with flash is the input issue. Right now the iphone knows when to display a keyboard and when not to. Flash can use a non-standard method of accepting keyboard input other than a input box. (Flash can just capture keystrokes).
So if a flash application is requiring a keyboard, the iphone will have no way to know. Currently there is no method of manually bringing up the keyboard on the iphone(I'm sure it was a decision to keep the u.i. clean).
Also with flash, the have other mouse input methods (such as drag, onMouseUp, onMouseDown, etc...) which the iphone cannot support. Dragging events are captured by the iphone and produce the coll move around functionality we all love. I also read somewhere that the mouseUp and mouseDown events are both fired at the same time when a user touches the screen, which would break quite a few Flash created u.i.'s.
So the reason there is no flash support? Currently the is no way to make it elegantly work.

Problems with panoramic flash files in Director

i have some problems trying to put panoramic photo flash files into director.
I get this software Pano2VR to create 360 and sperical photos in flash format. So finaly i have the swf file.. but when i try put this file in director, does work.

This is one type of swf pano that not work good (flash 9).... but i did what you say... and works fine.
So in the app pano2vr... i export the .swf in flash 8 with no controls layer...
Next, i put this file in my web server and import from director using linking file (internet path)... WORKS FINE.
I still have to make some controls buts but that's fine by me. I'm mac user

Playing Flash SWF in Director 11

I created a simple navigation slide type show in Flash CS3
and tried to use it in a portfolio that I'm creating in Director
11. I imported the Flash SWF into Director and when I go to the
file it plays automatically and keeps looping; my navigation
buttons and actionscript 3.0 that I applied in Flash do not work
(they do work in the SWF file played with Flash Player 9). I assume
that I need a sprite script for my SWF cast member in Director, but
I haven't got a clue as to what to script. I learned Director about
12 yrs. ago, but haven't used it much since then . . . and I've
just learned Flash CS3.
PLEASE HELP . . .

Well, to be clear, the DataGrid component did not come with
Director 2004. A developer can copy the SWC file over and have it
available within Director.
I can tell you that any of the Flash components which were
not included in the release of Director 2004, were left out on
purpose. The reason was because there was some degree of
incompatibility at release. Specific what that is? I don't know the
specific details.
This does not mean that the DataGrid will not function in
your project. It could simply mean that data binding doesn't work.
Test Test Test is my main suggestion.
As for using the DataGrid... You have access to all the
exposed methods and properties to any component you add to
Director. Thus you should be able to uses anything found here....

Dynamic Flash text in Director MX

I have a presentation which needs to display user-changable
messages. I have a flash file that reads from a .txt file. Every
time the flash file opens, it reads the new text, updates, and
everything is great. I'm using
loadVariablesNum("/dynamic.txt", 0);
to read the text from the file.
But, when i put that flash file in Director, the text stops
updating. I made sure the file was linked externally. I'm sure it's
a simple code fix in director, but can't figure it out.
Any help is appreciated.

No Flash support in Safari3

There appears to be no Flash support in Safari. I've reinstalled the latest available plugin, but no joy. Anyone have any ideas?

I trashed my safari and was going to download it again and re-install it now when I go to re-install it it's telling me that beta 3.0.3 can not be installed to the hard drive and version 2 says there is a newer version. I trashed everything that says Safari is there something missing that I am missing. I cannot instalyy Safari. Can someone help me.

Your problem is off-topic. Better you post to a new thread so as to not add confusion to this thread.
In short, the only safe way to uninstall Safari 3 Beta is by using the Uninstaller in the Beta Installation Package. To do otherwise, adversely affects webkit files leading to quite a bit of havoc in your system.
To remedy, I believe you are going to have to reinstall your Operating System. If you require assistance or guidance, make an appointment at a Genius Bar if you live near an Apple Store. Otherwise, post a new topic in the forum.

Dear All,
Adobe announce that No more flash support for android and they are going to drop flash player development for further, which mean flash will slowly die. it may not be tomorrow but in a year.. right ?
If it is true, What will happen to a flash designer or a developer? and their experience in flash !!!

mentioned roadmap in short: Before that Flash could do anything. From now one Flash will do only two things - games and video on demand. That's all folks. In the world where technology is worth as much as number of platforms on which it is deployable I can say, Flash is walking its Green Mile.
