Flash and Fireworks combination

Macromedia MX: I am working on an image in Fireworks and
would like to incorporate a flash movie into this image so that I
can put it into Dreamweaver for my website. A quick example of the
image is a square inside a square (kinda like a TV set). Is there a
way to layer the Flash movie into the Fireworks image so that the
Flash movie plays inside the inner square but is not visible on the
outer square? (since it would overlap somewhat) Would I import the
image from Fireworks to Flash and work on it there, or import the
Fireworks image into Dreamweaver and insert the Flash movie there?
I am not sure how to go about this task. Thanks for any
suggestions.

P-C-Surgeonz;
You can't "layer"a flash swf into an image, but you can
"insert" the
image and flash into your html separately using
dreamweaver--but IMO
importing the png fireworks png into flash, and just
embedding the flash is
easier. -Tom Unger

  • New to flash and fireworks

I've worked with frontpage and dreamweaver on simple
websites. Now I want to publish pictures to my site. My problem is
tht I want to install a picture a a hair style. I want to display
the front and bsvk of the style. Which do I use(Flash of Fireworks)
to make it when you drag your mouse across the picture that it
turns from front to back? Thanks in advance for your help.

You could use Either. With Flash you could create a movie
    with two frames,
one for each image and create a mouseover effect.
Alternative you could use Fireworks, create the two images,
    then load them
into DW and add a swap image behaviour to them.

  • Flash and Html combined elements

I have a question, basically what I have is a flash site, and
one of those sections is a news section, when someone clicks on
that section i want it to open up html webpage within flash and
then be able to scroll up and down the page because i know it all
wont fit. I want to do this because it will be easier to update, i
do not want anything fancy perhaps a picture resized and some text
under it, when you select the picture it will open in a new window
full sized. Does anyone know how to do this?

Here's a good help article that should help to explain the process: Adobe Flash Platform * External API example: Communicating between ActionScript and JavaScript in a web browser

  • Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?

    Hello,
Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
missing it, or is this a glitch?
    Thanks,
    Dylan

Go to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
that look in the lower left corner of the flash
application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

  • Flash and Fireworks animations

So I am building a website for myself and I want to put a flash animation in. After the animation comes in, more links will appear on top of the animation after it stops moving and stays stationary. I am wondering what I need to do to get this to function correctly between flash, fireworks and dreamweaver.
Do I build the animation, layout the rest of the site in FW, and then put it altogether in DW?
If so, how would I put a SWF in front of the FW layout in DW? (Because that needs to be on top)
Thank you so very much for the help!

Import graphics from FW into FL and create your animation there. Then publish and place the SWF in a page in DW.

  • Kuler ASE and Fireworks?

One thing that I noticed with CS3 Fireworks is that there are
still some inconsistencies -- such as why there is only support for
the Adobe Swatch Exchange extension in the usual print-output
programs (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) but not for
    web-based programs (Flash and Fireworks).
If Fireworks didn't support CMYK then I'd understand however
CS3 now covers that. So why no compatibility?
Or is there a converter / tool to allow the swatch
    information to display?
    Thanks!

  • CS5 and CS5.5 64-bit (Flash, Illustrator, Fireworks) ALL Crash Out of Nowhere on Windows 7 64-bit

ATTENTION ADOBE! Your CS5 and CS55 products crash continuously on Windows 7 64-Bit. And I don't mean just when I'm saving (which they do) or when I'm importing into Flash Pro (which it does); I'm saying it just completely dissappears just as if I hadn't even opened it. No error message whatsoever. Oh, and of course, ALL WORK GONE since my last save; And I don't think that I should have to save every 5 seconds!
IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
    IF NOT...
PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE BECAUSE WE'VE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON YOUR PRODUCTS; AND NOW THEY'RE COSTING US EVEN MORE WITH POOR PRODUCTIVITY BECAUSE WE HAVE TO KEEP REDOING THINGS; NEVERMIND ALL OF THE FRUSTRATION IT IS CAUSING!!!
I thought that upgrading from CS5 to CS55 might help, but no, the problem is even worse.
FLASH, ILLUSTRATOR, and FIREWORKS ALL EXHIBIT THE SAME SYMPTOMS.

Sorry to bother you I just thought you might hit on something if other apps were not working.
Is everyone in your office having this issue with Flash, Fireworks or Illustrator crash? How many people?
Did you upgrade to 64-bit from 32-bit?
Are you using an approved OS for your hardware; i.e. Dell recommends using?
Have you scanned your memory to see if its bad?
Do you have your memory in the right slots in your motherboard?
What apps are you using when Flash, Fireworks or Illustrator crash? If you are running Photoshop, Premiere or After Affects you might have to adjust their memory useage.
When Flash, Fireworks or Illustrator crash is your system having issues?
Have you checked the event logs in Windows to see if there are any error or critical events logged at or around the time when  Flash, Fireworks or Illustrator crash?
Note you can also open a support ticket with Adobe on the issue and work that pretty far without paying $25 (which is not that much); if your business is losing money as you stated originally.

  • Dreamweaver 8 | Flash 8 | Fireworks 8

    Are the combinations of Dreamweaver 8 | Flash 8 | Fireworks 8
good for producing high end web pages. If not, what do you all
    recommend?
Also, should Dreamweaver be the ending program to peice all
of the different graphical and text elements together?
Or can you just build multi web pages through Flash alone?
I just finished reading Dreamweaver training book so I'm
hoping it wasn't a waste of time. I spent almost 1 week reading and
    doing all the exercises.
I did find that uploading all your files through dreamweaver
FTP was pretty easy so I would think formating all your pages using
Dreamweaver can probably be good but what do I know, im just a nOOb
    developer.

Hey, no offence taken. I too am more of an art tart than a

"With every book I read or CD rom I watch I get more and more

Yup, that'll happen. It just means you are not getting
    complacent and you
want to find out more. There is nothing worse that someone
    who reads a book
then thinks they know it all. In World Of Web you just never
    stop learning -
especially as standards change and CSS develops. Keeps your
    brain working.
"cause my questions must be answered to I get the BIG
    PICTURE."
Might be a good plan. Once you get a few basic principles in
    place in your
head a lot more will become clear. I honestly wish I had had
    some proper
training and I may have advanced quicker. You can't beat
    having an expert
right there, so you can go "Sorry, just dont understand that
    bit"
Mind you, things were a bit simpler 8 years ago. I wouldn't
    want to be
    starting out now!

  • Help with CS4 and fireworks

Hey all, running out of time I am trying to set up a website for my sons baseball team this spring and I am in a little bit of a pickle. I am using DW CS4 and I have set up a slide show in fireworks CS4 as well, when I create the slideshow and test in a browser it works with no problem. Here is where the issue comes in to play, I create a sideshow using the the (player-black flash and when I import it into dreamweaver and set it up on my page I save the page and when I test I have no pictures show up. (I have included a screen shot) of  what happens. I have tried different type of players and they all do the same thing. I have watched videos on how to import the slide show into dw and as far as I know that is not the problem. I have downloaded the most current version of adobe flash player but still no luck. And this is the one thing that everybody wants more than anything the pictures of games. Can anyone give me some help or suggestions, I have downloaded a software called visual sideshow, but I like the way fireworks looks and I plan on adding more slides as the year goes on. For what it is worth I have the copy of Adobe master collection CS4, but being new to web design and watching videos on fireworks it seem to be the easiest to learn. Can anyone give me some feed back on what I may be doing wrong. By the way I am using Win7 if that matters any
    Thanks,

Fireworks is not the ideal solution for slideshows. Creating images, yes.

  • Posing a question for those well versed in flash and flex

I would like to start an off-line communication chat with those of you who are well versed in Flash and Flex.
I've worked with Cold Fusion but I am not up to date on all the technologies available.  This seems like the perfect forum for this question.
I simply want to build an application (web or desktop is unknown) in which a person can learn a foreign language, in this case English.
I need some technical advice as to whether Flash, Flex, or a combination of technologies (Cold Fusion for server side functionality) is the best choice for this application.  I do not understand the technical aspects of Flash or Flex in building applications so I need the advice of you experts.
As with most foreign language textbooks, audio, or foreign language video training, the material is not interesting, not pertinent to daily life, and is great for late night insomnia.  I've never seen any type of foreign language training that is interesting, fun, or uses current events as part of the curriculum.
I would like to illustrate my idea with an example.  I want to use an existing English beginners textbook (for kids), scan the images in the textbook, store the content (rules of grammar) in a database and store example sentences in a database.
I would like to record basic audio sentences from the textbook (Do you know tomorrow's weather), incorporate some animation (baseball player hitting a home run), incorporate some basic video (purchasing an item at the grocery store), add a quiz, test question or puzzles, etc..
In addition, since this is a classroom setting and the kids are split into groups, I would like to store a seating chart with the kids names and pictures in a database.  After the first segment is finished (e.g. purchasing a toy at the store) the kids next perform an activty.  I want to use a combination of audio, video, and animation to explain the activity, give instructions, split the class into groups, and perform the activity.
As I mentioned before, I would like to start an off-line discusion for those of you who are willing to share some of you knowledge and experience with both Flash and Flex.  Since you are extremely busy, maybe you might be able to point me in the right direction.
Hopefully, some of you can provide some sound technical advice.
    Thanks in advance
    Michael Poplawski

This is an abitious project even for some-one well versed in flex/flash, i have to give you points for outstanding courage on this .
You need to cover quite a few areas in a project like this both for the client and the back end, you need a strong understanding of animation(either through code or the flash timeline), data parsing, logic trees for the quiz/test elements and a lot more before the first line of code would be written.
In Australia there are already a few companies using flex for online educational applications and at least 1 state educational Authority. A search on the internet will find several sites pertaining to flash/flex based online education software and this would be a starting point to give you an idea of the strength flex has in this area.
Beyond this it is not the sort of project that 'help' would be readily available for unless it was relating to very specific issues you could readily define. Also this is not the best forum to request this type of help as the forum is more about testing a beta product. I am sure that if you start learning about flex and have trouble understanding different aspects of how things work there will be plenty of support from the flex community.

  • WebStart Flash and Veritas Volume Manager

I would like to use WebStart Flash for backup of the system
disk. The goal is to be able to recover the system disk rapidly.
It works perfectly for systems without Veritas Volume
    Manager on the system disk.
However, if Veritas Volume Manager is installed and used
for mirroring the root disk, the system is not able to boot using
WebStart Flash. This is probably because the "private region"
of the disk is not included in the flash archive.
Does anybody have a solution for this, or does any of
you successfully combine WebStart Flash and Veritas
    Volume Manager?
I use Jumpstart and the install_type is configured to
    flash_install.
The question was also asked in the newsgroup
    comp.unix.solaris.
    Rgds,
    Henrik

For many reasons, today you cannot save the VxVM
private region information as an implicit part of a
flash archive. The procedure would likely be to
unencapsulate the root drive, create the flash archive,
then re-encapsulate the root drive. This is an ugly
procedure and may cause more pain than it is worth.
When a root disk is encapsulated, an entry is put
into the /etc/system file which says to use the VxVM
or SVM logical volume for the rootdev rather than
the actual device from which the system was originally
booted. When you create a flash archive, this modification
to the /etc/system is carried along. But, when you install
it on a new system which doesn't have VxVM properly
    installed already (a chicken-and-the-egg problem)
then the change of the rootdev to the logical volume
will fail. The result is an unbootable system (without
using 'boot -a' and pointing to a different /etc/system
    file like /dev/null).
The current recommended process is to use a prototype
system which does not have an encapsulated root
    to create the flash archive.
VxVM also uses the ELM license manager which will
tie the VxVM runtime license to the hostid. This makes
moving flash archives with VxVM to other machines
    impractical or difficult.
The long term solution would be to add logical volume
management support to the JumpStart infrastructure.
I'm not counting on this anytime soon :-(

  • Advice on integrating Flash and HTML

I have googled and researched this topic on the web.
Integrating Flash and HTML seems like a popular topic but much of
the information is dated (using FS commands or solutions based on
2000-2004 coding and/or hacks) I am using Flash CS3 and Dreamweaver
CS3. I can use Actionscript 2 or Actionscript 3. Here is my goal
I want to use a Flash navigation in the top third of my page
and have it control and load new HTML pages in the bottom two
thirds of the page. Some of these html pages use SPRY code but most
are simple HTML pages. I prefer Flash over CSS because I have more
control and predictability. What I have found so far is three
    different solutions.
1.HTML Framesets. This seems like a really good idea but I
thought using framesets was a fading technique and should be
    avoided. Is this true?
    2. Using the ExternalInterface class to communicate between
Javascript and Actionscript. This also seemed like a good idea but
it is not clear to me how to implement. Do I combine this with
innerHTML or some type of AJAX technique.
    3. Keep everything in Flash and load different swfs into main
Flash page. I like this idea the best and it would work for most
pages but I still like html pages when there is alot of text or I
    want to use SPRY techniques.
When I have posted elsewhere I get references to articles
telling me why Flash is bad or framesets are bad or innerHTML is
not standard HTML. The only thing I am sure about is that most
people are pretty passionate about defending their own way of doing
things. I am hoping someone can provide some solid information
about what is possible and how to implement a solution.

It works when you put it online... :)1

  • Importing into Flash a Fireworks image - advice please!

Importing into Flash using a Fireworks image - advice please!
New'ish to Flash so hope I'm in the right forum ;-)
I have made and image using gradients in Fireworks and have been using FW for ages (please see example below).
I am importing into Flash CS4 this image and want to use it with a Flash component however the image quality is really bad in Flash and I cant figure out why. I have increased the image to 300dpi in Fireworks to see if that helps and it doesn't.
I'm hoping this is a simple thing I am missing due to not knowing Flash as well as I do Fireworks.
Really grateful for any advise. P.

    Hi there,
No not trying to adjust size of the image in Flash, do that all before hand.
In Fireworks I can adjust resolution but don't seem to be able to in Flash, is this def the case?

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Adobe 'fixes' for Flash and Dreamweaver

According to what I've been reading, Adobe added fixes to
Dreamweaver 8.02 to deal with the Active Content problem created by
Microsoft when Flash animations are embedded in web pages. Since I
have an earlier version of Dreamweaver and Flash and am having
problems like everyone else with that issue, would some 8.02 user
kindly inform me if this is indeed the case, and what does one do
in the new version to ensure Flash active content runs as intended?
Is it something that one must still manually add to the code in an
.html file, is the correction added automatically, is there an icon
to press....just how is the new feature/fix used and incorporated?
I'd like to know before considering an update. Thank
    you..............frank

    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html#dw8
Basically after you update if you add a flash file you get
this code added to the html file:
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
and that folder (Scripts) and (fileAC_RunActiveContent.js)
are automatically created with your project. When you import a swf
file the code that is automatically generated is also updated with
a snippet of code to fix the AC issue:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0','wid th','404','height','368','src','~movies','quality','high','pluginspage','http://www.macrom edia.com/go/getflashplayer','movie','~movies'
    ); //end AC code
    </script><noscript>
You dont really have to do anything other then remember to
upload the scripts folder to your server when you publish.
