Flash and Silverlight

Ive got a macbook air, 15 months old, for some reason i now cant run content that requires silverlight or flash despite downloading all the required software to make it work, no idea why this has suddenly happened, but nothing will run anymore, any help appreciated.

Open Safari. Go to Safari>Preferences>Security. Is enable plug-ins checked? Also try to reset Safari by going to Safari>Reset Safari....

  • Safari - Flash and Silverlight Plug-ins NOT working

Safari does not seem to recognize my Flash and Silverlight Plug-ins so that I can watch and stream videos. I might have messed it up, but I can not fix it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There's no Auval or RA or Garritan Personal Orchestra in the Audio Units Manager in Logic Pro. Though Stylus RMX that I also use and Kontakt Player 2 are there and successfully validated. The RA and Kontakt Player component are exactly in the place you said they would be.
I've since discovered that RA does not in fact work in Logic Express. As for whether it's loading up in Rosetta or PPC version - how do I tell that?
I really appreciate your help but I'm still stuck at square 1. Any more suggestions?!!

  • Flash and silverlight causing high temps on macbook air

    Hello all,
I've had my macbook air for just over 2 weeks and I've noticed that when I play flash videos on youtube and silverlight videos via netflix my fan starts going crazy after a while. I can do other intensive tasks without the fan having to spin up.
    Any suggestions?

Your computer is doing what it is supposed to do. There are few applications that are as CPU intensive as Flash - this is why Jobs didn't want it on the iPad or iPhone. Flash makes the computer work hard, the computer gets hot, and the fans start up.

  • ADOBE FLASH and Silverlight

accidentally deleted adobe flash player and silverlight plug in. Netflix and videos on Facebook will no longer load. I reinstalled both but it's like nothing happened neither one work. what's the issue?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Flash and Silverlight freezing randomly

I have been facing this problem ever since I upgraded to Firefox 7. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to when it happens, but periodically, when a new instance of Adobe Flash or Silverlight are started, they crash. For example, every 3-5 times watching something on Youtube, watching something on Netflix, or even just the annoying flash ads in Yahoo mail. When this happens, sometimes it grays out the control and offers to send a crash report (which I do almost every time), and sometimes I have to manually kill firefox via task manager. Also, when starting a Netflix movie, it might load a little bit (status bar isn't at any particular location, could be anywhere between 0-100%) but then halts. In any of these occasions, Firefox completely freezes. I do in fact have Flash and everything up to date. Problem has been around for months now and it keeps getting more and more annoying.
I am more than familiar with computers, developer in fact. I do also have Visual Studio 2010 installed, in case that might contribute to the problem.

Silverlight is not required in Firefox. However Flash works on Mozilla Firefox. Update your Firefox Plug-ins by going here
    https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
Update the Plug-ins infront of whom "Update" button is active. Check and tell if its working.

  • Safari Flash and Silverlight problem.

I have two large problems on safari.
    1. Flash: Whenever I play flash, the CPU jumps up to 100+, and then it doesn't come down until I close down the video.
I have everything updated, and this didn't occur when I first got my macbook. Does anyone have a fix for this?
    2. Silverlight: I installed silverlight, but silverlight videos don't recognize them on any of my browsers. However, on "Help ----> Installed Plugins", it does show the silverlight plugin installed, but the videos just don't load. I've already uninstalled and then reinstalled, and tried Silverlight 2 Beta 2, and Silverlight 1, but neither of them work. Please help!

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.2, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11, and should also work with 10.5.4.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first.
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player versions (v.9.0.115.0 and 9.0.124.0) in some cases conflict with Leopard 10.5.4, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct versions for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-005. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):
    http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again.

  • Flash and Silverlight don't work at all in Beta 34.0, when Internet Explorer properly works with these; happened immediately with update to Beta 34.0.

    Hello!
Immediately upon updating to Beta 34.0, Silverlight and Flash, completely stopped working in Firefox. I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.
They work fine in Internet Explorer.
This happens in any website I go to.
For example, I can go to Youtube, and the page will show a black box where the video should be, but there are no play controls, or any way to enable the video. Clicking within the black box does nothing.
On the music play site, Grooveshark, the site does not recognize Flash as being installed at all. (If you don't have Flash installed, this site pops up a message every time. Grooveshark correctly recognizes that Internet Explorer has Flash installed.)
I updated the Flash plugin to the current version, which also did nothing.
I have not reinstalled Firefox, or done a System Restore, yet.
I just bought a new computer that I was going to migrate to, and retire this computer, so I was not going to do heroic efforts to fix this. I was reporting this more on the order of a bug report.
    Thanks.
    Karl

This happened to me as well with Windows 7 32 bit (which I did as as upgrade from Vista Home Premium - if that might foul things up a bit) and affects Firefox 34.1 and IE. I did a system restore which took me back to Firefox 33 and Flash was fine. Later in the day Firefox updated back to 34.1 and I lost Flash again.

  • Why am I getting a "QT PLAYER" logo on media files I used to be able to play with Flash and Silverlight?

When I try to download a video file I am getting a "QT PLAYER" logo and it wont allow me to open in Quicktime mor any other media player. Why is this happening? I think it happened after I tried to download plug-ins for Elmedia player? thanks

I dont need you to respond but I found out the answer and I thought I might share it so that if anyone else has the same problem you will know the answer. This what I did before the problem started:
    1. I am running MAC OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)
    2. I down/loaded (d/l)  ADOBE FLASH player
    3. I d/l Adobe AIR SKX including SHOCKWAVE (thought that MORE is better!)
    4. Saw that SAFARI had some NEW EXTENSIONS so D/L a few including:
        -Adware Blocker
        -Facebook Ad blocker
       - Facebook page cleanup
       - "CLICK-TO- FLASH blocker (this is the culprit!)
"ClickToFlash prevents the Flash plug-in from running. It replaces any Flash element on a webpage with a placeholder; simply click the placeholder to load the Flash content. ClickToFlash also lets you replace Flash videos from select websites (such as YouTube) with H.264 video. Other optional features include advanced whitelisting". Quote from Safari extensions page.
and a few other unimportant ones in my opinion.
    REMEDY:
    1. I checked everything about SILVERLIGHT as was suggested and UNINSTALLED SILVERLIGHT.
WENT TO UTILITIES IN APPLICATIONS AND IN SPOTLIGHT WROTE "SILVERLIGHT" and then "MOVED TO TRASH" anything to do with
        Silverlight
    2. did the same for ADOBE FLASHPLAYER and Went to UTILITIES and removed anything to do with Adobe, including the LOCKED ADOBE FILES
        AIR, SHOCKWAVE, AND A PLUG-IN CALLED "DIRECTOR.SHOCKWAVE"
    3. THEN UNINSTALLED ALL THE SAFARI EXTENSIONS - especially the "CLICK To FLASH extension.
    4. Went to  SAFARI PREFERENCES, and under the SECURITY TAB made sure "enable plug-ins" was checked.
    THEN:
    1. RE-INSTALL SILVERLIGHT
    RESTART
    2.RE-INSTALL ADOBE FLASH PLAYER (LATEST) 11.2.502.146 here;
      http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    RE-START
AND THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. NOW WORKING PERFECTLY
    MANY THANKS
    ED

  • Flash and Silverlight suddenly not working?!

    Hi,
This evening I went to check the football on skygo. Where the stream would usually load, I was presented with this...
Silverlight on grey background and no video.
I then went to the BBC website and clicked on the football latest and it showed me this...
Flash on grey background and no video
I 'right clicked' the main video window and it gave me the option to 'restore flash'. I clicked this and was then confronted with this...
HTML5 text across video window. I could still click play and it refreshed itself and then played normally, but upon re-entering the page the same happened again.
Does anyone know why I am suddenly having problems with various video formats? I've done nothing different to normal whatsoever and although flash seems to be working (albeit a bit strangely), silverlight it not, so nogo-skygo!
I'm hoping this will be riculously obvious to someone and they will call me an idiot and tell me what needs installing/uninstalling/reinstalling/molesting/fingering to get me back to the smooth operation i've enjoyed for the last 5 years.
    I'm running:
    Macbook Pro
    Mountain lion 10.8.4
    Gracias amigos...

    Try this for Flash ...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Back to Safari. Press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, please post a link in your Reply.

  • Can't watch videos or see apps that use flash, or silverlight

I just got this iPod Touch today, why can't i watch or see anything that uses flash, or silverlight
Is there anyway to watch or see flash, and silverlight using iPod Touch?
    Thanks!

Because no iDevices support Flash or Silverlight,  There is the SkyFire browser that displays/converts Flash on a special site.  For more info on Flash look at the previous posts on the right under the hading "More Like This"  Also see:

  • Adobe flash Player 12 and Silverlight update

    Hi:
I recently updated to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (12) and Silverlight. Adobe is still saying it needs to be updated and won't let me run anything that needs it. My school e-mail uses the silverlight portion of this and crashes Safari.
    How do I fix this?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 7. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 6
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 7
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 8
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

trying to veiw videos from a website that requires me to download firefox and silverlight. My imac osx 10.5.8 will now download firefox. firfx tells me my mac is not compatible with ffox Please help me ?  Thank you

There is a version of Firefox 4 available for PPC Macs:
TenFourFox 4.0.1 Firefox 4 For PowerPC Browser Released
Version 4.0.1 of TenFour Fox, FloodGap's port of Firefox 4 for Power PC
Macs that supports both Mac oS X 10.4 and 10.5. has been released.
Mozilla.org dropped support for OS 10.5 after Firefox 3.6 and for Power
PC with the fourth beta of Firefox 4.
TenFourFox uses almost all the same code as Firefox 4 and has nearly all
the same features, including faster JavaScript, WebM video, and HTML 5
and CSS 3 support, as well as new and emerging Web features, but with
the code needed to keep your Power Mac functional and fast. Out of beta
and it's ready for action, versiob 4.0.1 is a performance, security and
stability update incorporating Mozilla's Firefox 4.0.1 plus AltiVec acceler
-ation for WebM and browser graphics, and G5 JavaScript acceleration.
    For more information, visit:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    Source: from http://www.applelinks.com - posted April 25, 2011)
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:

  • JAVA Applets from Adobe Flash/MS Silverlight?

SAP has recently announced that it will no longer support
invocation of JAVA applets directly from its "WebDynproABAP" or
"WebDynproJava" applications. (Until recently, SAP supported an
"iframe" UI element that could be used to run JAVA applets from
within WebDynpro applications - soon this will be only doable in
frames within SAP's portal via "client-side eventing".)
However, SAP will be supporting invocation of Adobe Flash and
MS Silverlight from within its WebDynpro Applications.
    So here's my question.
From an SAP WebDynpro application, I want to pass parameters
to the JAVA applet "JMol" and have it run in a separate frame.
Since I will no longer be able to call this applet directly from
the SAP WebDynpro application, I'm wondering if I could pass
parameters to Adobe Flash or MS Silverlight and have Flash or
Silverlight invoke the applet for me with the correct parameters.
(I would still only want two frames - the one that the SAP app is
running in and the one that the JAVA applet winds up running in.)
Relevant links for this question are:

Thanks for any time anyone can afford to spend considering
this question, and for any answer(s) anyone can provide.
    David Halitsky

    This link:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/external_interface.html
says that javascript can be called from Flash
So is it as simple as invoking the Java applet from the
    javascript ?

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Adobe 'fixes' for Flash and Dreamweaver

According to what I've been reading, Adobe added fixes to
Dreamweaver 8.02 to deal with the Active Content problem created by
Microsoft when Flash animations are embedded in web pages. Since I
have an earlier version of Dreamweaver and Flash and am having
problems like everyone else with that issue, would some 8.02 user
kindly inform me if this is indeed the case, and what does one do
in the new version to ensure Flash active content runs as intended?
Is it something that one must still manually add to the code in an
.html file, is the correction added automatically, is there an icon
to press....just how is the new feature/fix used and incorporated?
I'd like to know before considering an update. Thank
    you..............frank

    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html#dw8
Basically after you update if you add a flash file you get
this code added to the html file:
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
and that folder (Scripts) and (fileAC_RunActiveContent.js)
are automatically created with your project. When you import a swf
file the code that is automatically generated is also updated with
a snippet of code to fix the AC issue:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0','wid th','404','height','368','src','~movies','quality','high','pluginspage','http://www.macrom edia.com/go/getflashplayer','movie','~movies'
    ); //end AC code
    </script><noscript>
You dont really have to do anything other then remember to
upload the scripts folder to your server when you publish.
