Flash archive install from local_device

I created a flash archive image from a server, now i want to install a new server using this file from a local scsi disk , but i have no idea on how to do this. I found info about network install, but i can't use network for this install. Any help will be wellcome,
thanks in advance.
Andres.

Hi,
in first place thanks for your help. I booted from CD, and gave the location of my flash image, then started the installation, but, about 60 % of execution, i got an error message like this:
fopen: No such file or directory
ERROR: Unable to unconfigure the extracted system
Unable to unconfigure the extracted system
And the system hanged. After that i have to make Stop + A to recover control on the system.
so, do you have any idea about this message?

When you boot off a CD, the hard drive root file system normally is mounted under /a, assuming the image is on the system that you want to install the image on..

  • Flash Archive Install Question

Recently I flashed a box to create a flash archive. That archive was served out via NFS and "seen" by the client server I built. Used image to sucessfully build the client server, but the disk is not sliced up like my source box. Is there something I missed in doing this? Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

You specify the partitions in your profies.

  • Errors when attempting to Jumpstart install a flash archive: Solaris10_u8

I pretty familiar with Jumpstart. I am attempting to use the new feature in Solaris10_u8 (10/2009) where you can do a flash archive install for zfs root systems.
I first built a machine the way I wanted it, and applied all patches. Then I ran flarcreate to get my new image. Copied the new image to an HTTP server.
Then I changed my rules/profile file to this time install the flash archive. Here is what my new profile looks like:
    install_type flash_install
    archive_location http://nas02.clark-communications.com/solaris/solaris10_u8/flash/sol101009flar
    partitioning explicit
pool rpool auto auto auto mirror c0d0s0 c1d0s0
    The jumpstart install begins fine.
At some point in the install, I see this:
         Extracted 1632.03 MB ( 90% of 1797.45 MB archive)
cannot receive new filesystem stream: invalid stream (checksum mismatch)
         Extracted 1633.03 MB ( 90% of 1797.45 MB archive)
The extraction continues. Later on, I see this:
ERROR: Could not stop the extraction
ERROR: Could not extract Flash archive
    ERROR: Flash installation failed
    Solaris installation program exited.
    And the installation fails/stops.
What am I doing wrong, how do I fix this?

I've tried this both ways- using Solairs 10 update 6 at least, installing a fash archive created on a zfs-root system to a ufs filesystem AND ainstalling a flash archive from a ufs based root onto a zfs filesystem both failed with odd errors similar to what you experienced. I have not tried this again with either update 7 or update 8, but I believe you will encounter the same problem.
As far as I've seen so far- if the flash was created on a zfs root- you have to extract it to a zfs root filesystem, and if the original was ufs, you can only extract it to a ufs filesystem.

  • Can you do an archive and install from a download update?

I upgraded to Tiger and 10.4.4 came on the disc I bought. I'm running into some problems w/ utilities that I have and would like to do an archive and install from the 10.4.10 download. The only option is an easy install though.

    Welcome to the forums!
You cannot Archive & Install from a downloaded update. You need to do an Archive & Install from your 10.4.4 DVD, then download and run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater.

  • Archive Install Takes Forever

It is taking forever to archive install from my 10.4.9 install DVDs on to the latest 15" MBP. AHT Version 3A124 - MBP Model Z0EC.
When it gets to the point to installing iLife it found more recent version was installed. It then hanged for over 10 minutes with the text "extracting files" on the screen.
Now the time bar remaining text information claims "32 minutes left"
    Rediculous.

    HI Noah,
Can you back up your files and do a complete Erase and Reinstall??? And... make sure you have a minimum of 15% available hard drive space. That will hang up any kind of installation whether Archive or Erase ......

  • Where are my apps after archive & install?

I was having some problems with some apps on my iMac 400 DV such as Mail and Address Book would not run, they would immediately shut down.
I did an archive & install from Retail os 10.2 discs and now, my HP Director ALL-In-One is gone. It seems that the actual folder is still there but now the dock icon is gone and the director does not start up automatically like before.
    Thanks.

I suspect the User account info is missing rather than the applications.
Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > and run the application you're missing in the Dock. Once the icon is on the right hand edge of the dock hold down the Ctrl key and click the icon. Choose "Keep In Dock".
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Choose your name on the left hand pane and then click Login Items Click on the + towards the bottom, navigate to and select the applications you wish to load automatically.

  • Solaris 8 container install problem using Ultra 60 flash archive

    Hi
I have an M4000 configured with a Solaris 8 container.
I am using a flash archive from an Ultra 60.
Below is the problem when I install.
    # zoneadm -z f714clone install -u -a /var/flar/fid714_20090515.flar
    Log File: /var/tmp/f714clone.install.26921.log

Last entry in the logfile is...
[Fri May 15 12:21:22 BST 2009] Postprocess: Performing zone sys-unconfig
It just sits at the WARNING doing nothing.
I connected to the container console using "zlogin -C f714clone" but this just gives me a blank screen with no output and unable to do anything.
I used a different archive from a V120 and had no problems.
Is there something I need to configure for a Ultra 60.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve.

I got this to work. It seems, for whatever reason, that it doesn't like the '-u' flag for an Ultra 60. I installed using '-p' instead and it was fine, it even came up with the new IP I had assinged.
    zoneadm -z QeSun01b install -p -a qesun01.flar

  • My android tablet won't play videos in a PDF after downloading from flash archive

I downloaded an interactive PDF and there is a video on the last page that won't play on my tablet, but plays on my computer. I downloaded the latest version of Flash from the adobe archives, as well as an updated reader. Any ideas on what I can do to make the video play?

You cannot use Flash content in PDFs on Android, even if you manage to install the obsolete Flash for Android from somewhere. It just isn't supposed to work.

  • Flash install from wanboot corrupting package database?

    Hi,
I am installing a number of Sun Sparc systems. Specifically V490s and V210s. I have been having a problem using wan booted flash archives and creating continers. I think this is a flash archive issue, not an OS issue.
Summary: packages not installed by zoneadm -z zoneid install because ALL packages have been marked partially installed or have been marked as needing to run a script.
    Chain of events:
    V490 : install from DVD
    smpatch analyze
    smpatch download
    init s
    smpatch update
    reboot
    init s
install other patches not installed by smpatch
    init 6
    register through command line sconadm
    smpatch analyze
    smpatch download
    smpatch update

    system comes up clean.
    flarcreate -c -n solaris.flar /export/home/solaris.flar
move solaris.flar to wan boot server
    ok boot net - install
wan boot installs and mirrors drives.
system appears to come up with a couple of errors, that I did not capture.
    zonecfg -z zone1
    zoneadm -z install
Installs ONE package the log file says that all the packages are marked partially installed.
Check packages using pkgchk -n a couple of errors that appear to be timestamp related.

  • Can't find older mail from archived install

I recently upgraded the OS on my iBook G4 to Tiger - and performed an archived install just to be safe. After installation was successful, most of my preferences transferred with the upgrade seamlessly (Calendar, Address Book items, bookmarks etc.)
But, when I opened Mail, although my mail server preferences transferred okay, I discovered that most of my earlier mail from the the last year or so is missing. And for most of the messages that are actually apearring in my inbox, Mail is saying "X Message has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." But, I am online and I can retrieve and send mail just fine.
Anyone have any idea how imight be able to recover my older mail? (I checked in the "Previous System" archived folder and sadly, there is no Library/Mail folder in there.) If worse comes to worse, I did back up all of my files on another drive before I upgraded, but I'm curious if maybe I'm just doing something wrong and my old Mail is currently buried somewhere on my laptop. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks.

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • How to take flash archive zoned system and how to deployee from jumpstart s

    Hi All
How to take flash archive zoned system and that flash archive how to deployee from Jumpstart server
please help me in this,it is very urgent for me
    Thanks
    Murali

when you've created the flar image just setup the jumpstart server accordingly
    1) create a profile for a flash installation
    install_type flash_install
    archive_location nfs js1:/data/server.flar
    partitioning explicit
    filesys c0t0d0s0 2000 /
    filesys c0t0d0s3 6000 /usr
    filesys c0t0d0s4 2000 /var
    filesys c0t0d0s5 2000 /export/home
    filesys c0t0d0s6 520000 /export/zones
    2) create the jumpstart client just as you would normally
    3) jumpstart the server
As far as i know this should work

  • Flash archive from a T2000 to V240

    Hi,
I am attempting to install a flash archive created on a sun T2000 and install it on a Sun V240. Its reporting errors that say the flash archive is not valid. I have tried many times. I don't quite understand this sun4u vs sun4v stuff. Is the T2000 sun4v and the v240 sun4u? and if so, is it possible to flash archive between them?
Any help on this would be great!
    Thanks,
    Darren

Sorry. Thank you for answering my question.
I have formated my flash drive to a Fat 32, and there is no difference.
I save file on my flash drive and when i try to re-open it it says : File Error: Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize. Sometimes the same file will save and open perfectly, and other times the error message comes up.
    Thanks.

  • Can I Archive and Install From Leopard Up-To-Date Disc?

I'm a Mac newbie, so I apologize if this is an obvious question.
I purchased my iMac this month, so I received a Leopard Up-To-Date disc for $10. The CD says Upgrade on it, and I can't find any options for what type of install I want to run. I've seen things like Erase And Install, Archive and Install, and Upgrade posted here on the forums, but the only options I have are whether or not to install things like Core Services, X11, etc. Can I not perform an Archive and Install with this disc, and if I can't, is there any chance I could request a full CD from Apple?
    Message was edited by: AceDew

You should be able to -- when you get to the screen that asks you to choose your installation destination, highlight the drive, then you will see in the lower-left an options buttion. CLick it and you will find three choices: upgrade, archive/install and upgrade install. Choose the one you want and enjoy!
Keep in mind that when you put the disk in, the system will verify that the DVD is OK -- it takes a few minutes, but it is worth knowing that the disk is not corrupt before you start. Also, repairing permissions seems to take awhile -- just let it happen.
