Flash Asset Xtra

HELP!
Since Adobe goes out of its way to hide things I can never
locate the Flash Asset Xtra which allows the latest Flash to play
within Director.
I found that link on here once but also can not seem to find
it now.
Thanks

Thank you Mike,
That is the newest and helped me a bunch. Took me all day to
find this solution but it fixed all the problems I was having
playing .swf files in D11

  • Flash asset xtra 9

    Hi,
I want to integrate Flash 9 (ActionScript 3) compiled files
into a director project. To integrate flash files I need the flash
asset xtra. But with the current version of the flash asset xtra, I
can only integrate Flash 8 compiled files. Is there any update of
the flash asset xtra? Or any other way to import flash 9 compiled
    files?

For the Flash IDE 8 is current, although there is the Flash 9
    public beta.
For the player however, 9 is the current version and has been
    around for a
while now. This is needed for compatibility with all the Flex
    apps starting
to appear, and Flash 9 once it's finally ready. I think they
    need a better
(shorter) cycle between when a new player comes out and when
    an update to
    the Xtra appears.

  • Flash Asset Xtra update (10.1.1) : authoring becomes sluggish with   Flash buttons

    Hi,
I'm using DMX2004 to update an old project (version 10.1)
I wanted to replace old ugly buttons with Flash components
    ones, which I
did (I've got around 20 buttons on the scene, all duplicated
    from one
castmember). Everything was working fine and speedy, apart
    from some
    script errors.
Then I discovered there was a Flash 8 Asset Xtra update which
    I decided
to install as I was in a quite early button integration
    stage.
From then on, authoring became sluggish, Director hangs for
    about 30
    seconds on each script error.
I did a test from scratch (putting buttons on the scene) and
    it seems
having a cast member for each button on stage helps but it
    will crawl
    anyway with 20 buttons.
Do I need to switch back to old Flash Asset version ? Is
    there something
    to do ?
    Thanks in advance.
    PJ

I too get very sluggish behaviour in authoring when I put a
Flash component sprite on stage.Even with a 3.5Ghz machine with 3G
    ram!
I also have this issue, posted here:

  • Flash Asset Options xtra

I have just downloaded and installed the Flash Asset Xtra for
windows. I think I'm missing the Flash Asset Options xtra because I
get a warning message now when Director loads the movie with flash
files in it that says " Use of the Flash Asset Xtra in authoring
mode is restricted unless the Flash Asset Options Xtra is present
in your Xtras folder". The is a Flash Asset Options Xtra in the
right folder up it belongs to the previous version of the Flash
Asset xtra. My resent download of the xtra didn't include it. Any
clue on what I'm doing wrong or where I can download the new
version of the flash asset options extra? Thanks

You need to open that configurations folder and then the
    folders inside.
You have to manually move the new files in each of the
    folders to the
corresponding folders in the Director folder.
Its very tedious. There are a lot of files to move. Don't
    just move
folders, you will actually remove files that were in the old
    folders.

  • Problems after last update of Director+Flash Assets

    Hi All
I posted a question a week or so back about major problems
with an existing project after I updgraded with the last update.
Aftre the update Flash buttons no longer fired events and runtime
errors ocurred when you created 2 sprites from the same cast member
    etc etc.
I took this up with Support and to my great surprise they
didn't seem to know anything about it. After a few days I I
    recieved the following reply:
You have basically updated to the new Flash Asset Xtra and
all Flash component V2 will not work any longer. I can confirm the
Flash asset Xtra for Flash 8 doesn't currently support Flash
components.Unfortunately I don't have any info if this will be
changed in the future as it looks it has been done on purpose.
I believe its best option is to replace all components with
standard buttons or if he has Flash he can create his own buttons
or movie clips in there and bring them into Director
This seems to suggest that they no longer support the Flash
components that are shipped with Director. Great huh?
I'd be interested to hear what you all think. I think it
stinks - well that's the polite version!
    David

    reformated and all fine

  • Flash 8 asset Xtra update - component event workaround

Sorry to post so much about this. Lots of us are having major
headaches because after the Flash 8 asset Xtra update Flash
component events in Director don't behave as they once did.
BUT I've discovered you can use a combination of
addEventListener() and setCallback() to respond to events, at least
with the button component. Fortunately this works with the new
Shockwave player too. It’s a little convoluted, but at least
clicking a button makes stuff happen now.
It’s easier to let you look at it yourself than try to
explain it, I’m getting brain dead from experimenting with
    this all evening. Click
    HERE
    to download the zip file.
Please look through the code and see if you can come up with
anything else to add. Hopefully smarter folks than me will be able
to work more of this out. It doesn’t seem like we’re
getting any help from Adobe on this. I posted a question on Tom
Higgins’ blog today and got an auto response saying
he’s on vacation until April 24 and won’t be checking
email. He’s usually good about communicating with developers
about Director, so with luck he’ll be able to help out.
Optimally they’ll fix the durn thing. If you have time please
post anything you discover regarding components after installing
    the new asset Xtra.

I had a look at your file, and I noticed:
    function buttonClick(me,passedObj)
    // unfortunately this don't work
    for (var objProps in passedObj)
    ember("infoText").text += objProps;
    two things:
First, I think what you're trying (getting info on the object
properties) might only work in lingo.
    on buttonClick(me,passedObj,eventObj)
--put a break point in here, and inspect the objects
    member("infoText").text = "label property: " &
    eventObj.target.label
    member("infoText").text = member("infoText").text &
    RETURN & "toggle property: " & eventObj.target.toggle
    end
Second, I was playing with this, and discovered through the
function's (undocumented) arguments array that the third argument
is the event object which is another place to test for variables.
An event object has a 'type' property (in this case "click"), and a
'target' property which is the button. Hope this helps!

  • Flash Asset Upgrade via Director

    Hi All,
I have been using Authorware for over 10 year to make user CD's. I have been fighting Flash support issues for a few years now.
I have Director 11.5 too. Now Directors Flash Asset has been updated to support Flash CS5 and AS3 (Actionscript 3)
I took the Xtra and renamed it to the Authorware version's name. I now have support for Flash CS5. It might work on your projects. My projects required some minor tweaking. I had to clean up the code to do away with global variables and use of things like the _root object reference. Some of the Flash file's code were developed with Flash 7 on up and Actionscript 1.
I haven't checked out all of the features Flash CS5 support and the level of the Flash Asset support usable in Authorware (I have tested Flash 6 SWF's with video and text with variables).
I am amazed that the this product still works in Vista and Win7. Just another tribute to the old Macromedia team.

  • How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?

Now that there's no DL between Premiere CC and Encore CS6 how do I get Flash assets into Encore without them being retranscoded?
I can get Encore to not transcode DVD and Blu-ray assets that I've created and exported from Premiere, but not Flash ones.
Obviously I don't want to recompress a compressed F4V file.
If there's no way of telling Encore not to transcode it, what's the best format for exporting 1280 x 720 assets from Premiere CC that originated in a 1920x1080i sequence?
    Thanks!
    Mark

    Hi Stan,
I've tried my best to see if I can get Encore not to transcode a flash file, but I think that, since there's no flash preset (unlike the DVD and Blu-ray presets), I just can't fool it.
However, here's my workaround: I output the flash file any old way: using the DVD or Blu-ray assets, whatever. And then in the output directory it creates I can replace its created assets (in the sources folder) with my own simply by renaming and replacing my own encoded assets with the ones Encore created for me. There's a visible quality improvement doing it this way, and no unnecessary re-encoding.
Of course this is all a bit old-hat anyhow as we'll be doing it the HTML5 way with some Edge program or another any minute now! But for the moment....
Thanks for your help and suggestions!
    Cheers

  • Director Flash 8 xtra breaks shared object and onSync

This one has driven me insane for days, but at least now I
know what the problem is. It's really a Director-Flash8 xtra-FMS
problem, but I figure the best chance for a solution is posting it
    here.
The problem is this: The Director Flash 8 xtra update messes
up remote shared object connections to FMS applications. The
Management Console debugger does not show any SO properties ("no
data"), and only the "clear" onSync event fires. The old Flash 7
xtra worked/works fine. To illustrate, I've tested the following
code in the Director message window with both the v8 and v7 xtra
(if you know Actionscript and not Lingo, it's still easy to figure
out what happens here). It basically creates and connects a remote
    shared object on FMS:
    rrr = newObject("SharedObject")
    nnn = newObject("NetConnection")
sss = "rtmp:/apptest01" -- app on locally running FMS
    er = nnn.connect(sss)
    put er
    -- 1
    fff = rrr.getRemote("tester", nnn.uri, true)
    put fff
    -- <flash object>
    er = fff.connect(nnn)
    put er
    --1
-- so it's all good until here. onSync callback works with
    "clear", etc, but...
    fff.data.foo = 55.5
    put fff.data.foo
-- 55.5... but only shows in Mgmt Console when using the v7
    xtra...
-- when using the old flash7 xtra,
-- debugging the FMS app and onSync events works correctly,
-- but when using flash8 xtra,
-- debugging the FMS app shows "no data" for this shared
object. foo = 55.5 should be there.
-- also, onSync events no longer fire after the initial
    "clear".
If I translated this into actionscript and ran it in Flash 8
vs Flash 7, etc, would I get the same problem? I'll try that next,
but it took me a while to get this far. Is it simply a matter of
permission or firewall setting? Or is it something just broken with
    the Director flash 8 xtra?
    Thanks

As of just last week, Adobe can replicate the problem and is
    "working on it". I don't anticipate a shockwave-flash-xtra update
to come out of this, but perhaps they can identify some other
work-around. If you can avoid using "success" onSync events and
don't need shared object debugging, then FMS works with
Director/Flash 8 xtra... but this may be a symptom of yet more bugs
    that I haven't seen.
I'm stopping development on my FMS/Director project until
this is resolved... I may need to crack open the old Multi User
    xtra.

  • Skinning Components using Flash assets?

I'm trying to learn how to skin components using assets that I designed and laid out in Flash. I was quite comfortable with the Flex 3 / MX method of skinning but I'm now trying to push myself into the new Flash Builder / Spark way of doing things. I'm lacking info on the best way to go about things though.
Most tutorials I see are based on Illustrator or Photoshop design integration. I've tried to use Flash Catalyst but it seems that I can't utilize specific assets built within Catalyst and inject them into my existing Flash Builder application (unless I'm wrong?).
Ultimately, what I'd like to be able to do is to design my elements in Flash, import it into Flash Catalyst, set up specific buttons and components and then import them into Flash Builder as individual SparkSkin elements and then assign those elements to components within my application. I don't want to use Flash Catalyst to build and lay out the entire project. I just want it for building out individual components. I'd rather lay out the Flash Builder project on my own.
    So here are my questions...
Is it possible to set up individual components within Flash Catalyst and import them into Flash Builder as SparkSkins? If so, how?
How can I design an asset within Flash (for example, a big graphic that is a background element) and then apply it as a SparkSkin?
How can I keep the Slice 9 properties of an element that I designed in Flash?
If I'm just not "getting it" feel free to let me know!
Any tutorials or resources would be greatly appreciated!

I got the a 'round-about' answer that I was looking for in this link: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashbuilder/using/WS6f97d7caa66ef6eb1e63e3d11b6c4d0d21-7fc7.h tml

Please don't cross-post in a bunch of forums. Also when
adding code to a post, please use the attach code button. That
keeps the formatting and makes it easier to read. Your code is far
too long and way to unformatted to really understand quickly.
I don't know why you would need a CDATA node to get the
registered symbol. If the XML file you are working with is saved as
unicode (UTF-8) the symbol should come across just fine. Just
putting the UTF-8 at the beginning doesn't tell whatever program
you are using to save as UTF-8!
Do you know how to make the registered symbol? On windows it
is ALT -0174 (use the keypad for those numbers).
Once you've got the symbol in your XML the next step is to
check if Flash is loading it correctly. When you are in the testing
environment go to the Debug menu and select List Variables. The
trace window will show all the variables -- and there are probably
a lot! Search/Find something close to the symbol and see if the
trace window shows the symbol correctly. If it does then Flash is
readying it correctly and if it isn't showing you have problems
with your textfield. If it isn't showing correctly then your XML
    file isn't UTF-8.
If it is textfield problems I wouldn't know what to do since
it is inside a component. Post back with your findings.

  • Flash asset in DW html looks weird

I´m doing a site and in Dreamweaver and I noticed that
the flash animations had a weird grey line below them and when the
mouse is over them a weird grey border appears, after that I went
to visit other sites with flash animations and the same happened.
Apparently this is only happening on internet explorer on the PC,
    not on mac, please help...
Here´s a link to how it look.....

And this is the actual page...
    http://www.recycleflyers.com/

It's due to the latest upgrade of IE in response to the EOLAS
    suit
settlement. There are many ways to fix this, including that
    built in to
    DW8.0.2.

  • Preventing standalone Flash projector apps from trying to open Flash assets?

Is there a way I can exclude apps from the "Open With…" menu?
Finder mistakenly lists all standalone Flash apps I've built as possible choices when opening a SWF.

Does anyone else have this issue?

  • QuickTime 7.2 - problems with QuickTime Asset Xtra?

Ever since this new version of QuickTime 7.2 was released,
some of our customers are having a problem with viewing QT videos
inside of the Director Projector. (I am not able to reproduce the
same error, but I have received about 10 emails in the the past 2
days). Here's the type of error they are getting when attempting to
view the video, and then the application crashes:
    AppName: start_here.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName:
    quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.2.0.240 Offset: 008469a6
Has anyone come across this? Any ideas on what could be
    wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Now got it to work with latest version of VLC, it reports that the video codec is MJPG and the audio is ARAW. Another problems is that if I view in finder with preview on or (even get info), finder crashes or at least closes window I had open.
