Flash at cut points

I'm running FCP 5.1 on a 2.0Ghz Powermac G5. I import my PAL DVCAM rushes through a sony HVR-M10P via firewire. The rushes are shot on a sony HVR-Z1P camera.
Everything is fine except that at some cut points I experience a brief flash of white. This does not happen all the time, only at certain cut points, and it is usually when the cut is from a bright shot to a darker shot. When I scroll through the frames, there is no "dirty" frame and everything seems in order. When I move between frames on the cut point, the flash always occurs on the first frame for a brief moment. It is not a full frame of white. Instead, it is just a flash on the frame, usually around the periphery, but it is really distracting.
I've tried to de-interlace, compress the fields, drop either even or odd fields, but nothing seems to work. But when I darken the lighter shot, sometimes the flash is eliminated, although this does not happen all the time.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or what I can do?

I've put the playhead on the very last frame and it's okay. When I advance to the next frame, that's where the flash occurs. The flash is not a frame in itself. It's just a momentary flash on the frame itself. Initially I thought it was field problem because I'm shooting on cineframe25 mode on the HVR-Z1P, but after playing around with the field dominance settings, I've kinda ruled that out.
The only culprit I can think of now would be the monitor itself. I just came back from a presentation and my tape played fine on the client's TV.
I'm puzzled...

There are three lights on the interface they all light up, then half way through a recording or just lisiting to music, the FW light flashes and cuts out, and now the mac is rebooting when it does that. I highly doubt it is a simple fix, or a bad wire. I have the original cable for the interface that came with it, hooked up to a sonet adapter to fit in the macbook pro because the geniuses at apple decided that they would make that port small.

Since the roll-out of AC 9.1, when I edit the timeline of a recording I see the timeline of the position of my cursor ON TOP OF the timeline point of the cut points, therefore I can't see where I'm about to cut a recoring. How to see the cut points when editing the timeline?

Hi Kevin,
There is a know bug for the black marker overlapping the time-line with a black marker.
But we have a trick to help you do your editing effectively. Follow the steps mentioned below and you will be able to edit your recording with precision:
1. Pause the recording from where you want to start your editing.
2. Double Click on the LEFT marker. It will take both the markers to that point on the recording timeline.
3. Play the recording and pause the recording again at the point till where you want to edit the recording.
4. Double Click on the RIGHT marker. It will take the right marker to the end point of your to-be-recording.
5. Cut and Save.

How delete a cut point in fcpx if it was done earlier in project?

I'm learning FCPX, but I can't find out how to simply eliminate/delete a cut/an edit point that I made earlier.
I know how to delete a cut point when it is simply my previous edit, but when I'm many edits down the line and want to go back and eliminate an earlier cut, how to do it?

Jim, Tom and Ian, Thanks for your replies. I think I miscommunicated what I'm after. In Final Cut Pro 7, one could go back to an earlier cut mark that had been inserted, but no actual cut between clips had been made.
Then one could just right click to get a list which had the option to "Join Through Edits", and eliminate that cut mark as if it never existed. This was helpful to me, as I often used it to mark potential edits as I went along. I started marking potential cuts that way in FCP X, but then couldn't find a way to erase them.
I apologize for not being clear. Jim, I will have to try your suggestion.You're right that functionally you can get to the same end. I just liked the quick ability that was there in FCP 7.

Rex file cut points are off in EXS when I reopen Logic 8

I just upgraded to Logic 8. Rex files open fine initially in the EXS until I shut down Logic. When I reopen the session, all of the cut points are randomly off. This has happened to about 15 EXS instruments I used REX files to create yesterday. I had this problem one time randomly in Logic 7, and it never happened again. Now it is happening consistently in Logic 8. Any ideas?

More information:
If I edit the cut points in the EXS and then save, the instrument saves and reopens with no problems.
If I load a .rx2 file and convert it to .exs, and then save in the EXS, the instrument reopens with the cut points off.
Any ideas? I need to be able to load recycle files and have them work.

HELP! Flash header cutting off, but only on some computers

Our site has been up for approx 9 months and there's been no problem. Now all of a sudden, on SOME computers that were perfectly fine, the flash header is getting cut off.   Well, I guess magnified is a better description...
  I have not been able to recreate the issue on my screen. All the "guilty" computers have ie8, while I am stubbornly still on ie7, which is why I was thinking ie8 might be the culprit. However my bus. partner has multiple systems running and it looks perfectly fine on ie8, chrome, and firefox. Even problem computers have moments of clarity, for instance it happened on my husband’s pc then I refreshed the images and it corrected itself. Then at the customer site, I opened the url on one of the “offending” computers, it was cut off again until I logged in…then it corrected itself immediately. But when I tried that on the computer I am testing today, it did not work. Then I was checking the Compatibility View Settings within ie8, I unchecked the box regarding Intranets, and it worked. Thinking I’d found something, I went back in and re-checked it, and the problem was back, ok….now I really thought I was getting somewhere. But when I went in again and un-check the box….nothing…still wrong. Over the past 2 days, I’ve updated their Flash Players, made sure all the images were the same size, deleted and re-uploaded the pix and xml files, contacted the skin author, anything I could think of. The author also checked all the CSS and site setting, everything looked in order. Also tried using the Compatibility View feature, setting that site to only be shown in IE 7, it did not work, which makes me think maybe it’s not the browser. I just attempted to back the computer down to an earlier version of Flash Player (9 as opposed to 10.1). Also did not work.
Of course, the client is freaking thinking about the big client that is due to check them out this week. I’ve been searching every support/community forum looking for someone else with this problem…if you have any answers or know of any better places for me to look, please let me know.

Hi, I just checked your site and it looked good to me, headers changing nicely and no glitches. The header and the body of the site filled my 19" monitor which I use with my work computer. XP/SP3/IE6 with Flash Player 10.1.82.76. Yes that is IE6:-) In your screen shot, there are extra wide margins(empty space) on the left and the right side. And it blocks the text. That did not appear when I went to the site. However there was extra space on the left and right sides both, but not so much that the entire text could not be seen. On www.bing.com the site comes much closer to the scroll bar.
Your Tech experience is way above my head as I am not into what you do. However I do pretty well at researching so I'll see what I can find that might point you into the right direction.
My only observation is that this happened "all of a sudden". Some kind of change must have happened. Could a user have made a change on the computers that are having this issue? Some Anti-Virus update?
I don't really think it is Flash Player related and for this reason: It is not consistent. Most all of the time some program with certain add ons into the browser, especially Anti-Virus add ons are what affects the Flash Player ActiveX Control that is in the browser. Flash Player is a browser plugin so any add on in the browser is a negative or a positive.
You may want to use the Adobe SEARCH field or the SEARCH at the top for Forums. You would know what key words would work best. The Forum SEARCH may be better to use since it covers all Adobe Product Forums.

Flash Video Cue Points don't work

I used the template sample from Adobe named :Flash video
template: Showcase website for personal video...I followed all the
steps sugested. I used Flash Video Encoder, created the cue points,
worte down the location of those cue points, which I wrote exactly
in the Settings.XML file for each chapter....etc. I guarantee you
that I did it all as sugested...In fact several months ago, it
worked for another project and another videos that I had.
But this time, when I am testing it, the video appears in the
screen all right but when I select a chapter for the section of
that video, an error appears like this :

Flash element - change pointer from arrow to hand in Director

Hi everyone,
I build a pop-up box in flash that I want to use in Director.
It is sort of a tab, that hides in a corner of the screen and when
the user rolls over it, it slides out showing some buttons. How can
I tell director to change the pointer into a hand when the user
rolls over the buttons inside my flash element (not when it rolls
on the tab itself)? Also, can I code these buttons to open PDF
documents from Director, even thou it was made in flash... if so,
how?

Check the docs for 'hitTest' and/or 'mouseOverButton', or
alter the
Flash file so that it tells Director to change the cursor whn
appropriate.

Either use 'setCallback', or add some AS to your Flash file

In Flash, I want to make a menu.
I have created the buttons, now I want to make them point to the various pages in my iWeb site by default. What should the URL be for the Buttons?
I used "../../mysite/index.html" for the home button, and that seems to work, after I publish, but the same type of URL doesn't work with the About Me, Photo, Blog etc. pages.

Simple Flash Video Cue Point Problem (I assume)

Hello everyone. Quick question. After I have added a cue
point to an end of a video, how can I have the cue point trigger an
action such as "gotoAndPlay" or "fscommand("quit");" etc.?
I thought this would be an easy thing to find by checking on
the various websties for other posts or tutorials but nothing I

You don't even need a cuepoint to do this.
Using the FLVComponent or the VideoPlayer object, use the
"complete" event to execute code. You set up an event listener
object to listen to the video object (using
videoobject.addEventListener(listenerObject) ), and create a
function for the listener object to do when the "complete" event
occurs (such as listenerObject.complete = function() { do whatever

USB flash disk mount points not created [SOLVED]

I am having a problem where my USB flash disk is not always being mounted after being detected by KDE. I have just installed Arch 2007.05, updated it and installed KDEmod. Here's what happens when I plug in a device.
1. I insert the device, KDE detects the device and shows the KDE Mount Daemon dialog. "Open in New Window" or "Do Nothing" are the two available options.
2. At this point, my device shows up in system:/media (in Konqueror), but it is not mounted. When I place the cursor over the device in Konqueror a popup with the device's label and the text "Unmounted Removable Medium" appears. There is no corresponding directory in the /media directory in my file system.
3. In the KDE Daemon window I select "Do Nothing" by either double-clicking it or selecting it and clicking OK.
4, My device does not get mounted. This is annoying since most of the time I just want it mounted so I can do some command-line work.
If in the KDE Daemon window if I select "Open in New Window" the device is mounted and the corresponding directory appears in my /media directory. Also, if I select "Do Nothing" but then later navigate into the contents of the device in Konqueror, at that point the device is mounted and the corresponding directory appears in my /media directory. When my device is plugged in, but not mounted there is a "Mount" option in the right-click context menu, but I want it to automatically mount.
On my other machine with openSUSE, the drive is mounted even if you choose "Do Nothing" in the KDE Daemon window. That way seems more correct, because if I plug a device in, I most likely want it mounted. (I know there are some cases where this might not be true, but those cases are certainly not the normal use casese.) Now I have to open Konqueror just to get the drive to mount. It seems that the drive should be mounted no matter what you choose in the KDE Daemon window.
Now, is this normal KDE or Arch behavior or is it something that can be adjusted or fixed?

Turing - imagine that! For some reason it never occurred to me to check the properties of the unmounted volume. Well, you learn something every day.
In the meantime, I decided that maybe "Do Nothing" should do just that and I should perhaps add a service to mount the drive, but not bring up any windows. Here's what I did.
1. Create a mount_vol.sh shell script with the following contents.

dcop kded mediamanager mount "$udi" >/dev/null 2>&1
fi
2. chmod +x mount_vol.sh.
3. Move the script somewhere like /usr/local/bin.
4. Plug in some removable device, in the KDE Daemon window click "Configure..."
5. In the KDE Control Module dialog that appears click "Add"
6. Give the service a name like "Mount Removable Medium", click the X icon to select a service icon, select "Unmounted Removable Medium" under "Available medium types" and click the right arrow. For the command use "/usr/local/bin/mount_vol.sh %u.
7. Click OK.
Now when the KDE Daemon action dialog appears, there will be the option to just mount it. You can of course use this same script for other medium types.

Flash 8 - zero point for x, y changes in slide screens

When I begin building a slide presentation in Flash 8, the x
and y zero point for the stage is at the top left where I would
expect it to be. So I place a few things on the stage, add a slide
or two and suddenly the zero point is in the center of the stage. I
am not sure when exactly it happens or why. How do I stop this from
happening? How do I correct or set the point back to the top
left?

Actually our users are complaining that the Flash 10 grayscale antialiasing on device fonts does not look as good
as the Flash 8 style antialiasing.Virtually everyone uses LCD monitors now, and it seems like the Flash 8 color
dithering produce better results on these displays.
It is demonstrated that the Flash 10 player will render device fonts with
different algorithms when it is using AVM1 or AVM2, so what I would like to know is if there is any way to have programmatic control over this
choice in my Flash 10 application, so I can get the Flash 8 style antialiasing, or control other parameters on a device font, like sharpness, etc.

Handling Flash video cue points in Javascript

Can any kind person give me any pointers on how to get Javascript in an HTML page containing an FLV video to listen for cue points in the video? I understand how to get the cue points in, but most people only seem to want to handle the cue point events within Flash. I want to use Javascript to display a different text in a page element at each point. Does the method vary depending on what player you're using? How about when it's the standard Flash playback component? Does there need to be any special Actionscript in the SWF containing the FLV?

For anyone else looking into this issue there are some links to the ActionScript documentation on this StackOverflow post and an explanation of how to use ExternalInterface halfway down the page in this Adobe Devnet tutorial.
Presumably you'd first import the ExtenalInterface class into your Flash with
import flash.external.*;
And then add an ActionScript event listener which sends the ID of each cue point out to the Javascript using the ExternalInterface.call() method:
