Flash bios and vga questions

hi
i looked on the bios update page today and could see that there was some new bios.
bios v3.6 updates vga bios.
does anyone know the difference between the vga in bios v3.3 and bios v3.6
im using bios 3.5 and it works great so i dont want to flash it if its not necessary or it would improve gfx as i use onboard gfx.
bye

Raven,
Actually 3.7 is out and it seems to have (so far so good) fixed the boot problem with my ATI Radeon card.  According to MSI it claims it is a fix for the 5900's. I had no trbl flashing as usual. If your machine is running fine and your not having any troubles why flash it, leave good enough alone. I know what you mean about not having a computer. I have a few backups because I don't want to be without one. I go on vacation, I have to bring my laptop to keep in touch.  I remember when my life was so simple.  )

How can u download an update and now ur computer is useless? Any ideas? Thx.

    I have a P105-S6024
    I downloaded the Flash Bios
    03-04-2009 BIOS
ACPI FLASH BIOS 4.70 for Satellite blah blah blah.
While it was working the install got frozen and my comp froze. So i turned it off with the button and it never came back on. Well the screen is black, the fan works, the icon that looks like a cake blinks and then turns off.

I was just playing Killing Floor everything was going great and i decided to update some stuff. I really wish i didnt do this man, this is bull. I dont have the money to fix this right now if it is a motherboard problem.

MSI seems to really discourage liveupdate on NTFS.  That was enough for me to flash from DOS.  While their instructions are detailed, they're really not that hard to implement as long as you're not being careless.  My flash to 1.2 went perfect using the DOS method on my NFTS machine...

  • Adobe Flash crashes and other questions about Flash

There have been several instances of Adobe Flash crashes whether I am using Firefox, IE or Google Chrome browsers - and simply reloading the page corrects this BUT recurs again and again.
I'm running Windows 8.1 64bit in which the Flash program apparently comes embedded in the OS as a 32/64 bit hybrid. When I inspect the Flash version add-on in Firefox, and run an update check, Adobe reports, correctly, that my system is Windows 64bit , English, Firefox. Then, when I do the same in Windows Internet Explorer by checking the embedded version, I get a message that KB2999249 is available for download to correct Flash issues in IE. Since that install, Flash hasn't crashed in IE [yet].
So, my question is: How can I be certain that when Firefox reports that Flash is "up-to-date" that it is indeed a 64bit compatible version? Note that the Adobe download site only identifies one available version for Firefox, IE and Google - the current version being 15.0.0.152 file: NPSWF32_15_0_0_152.
Does the "32" part of the file name suggest that it is a 32bit application and, if so, where can I find NPSWF64_15_o_o_152 [if it exists]?
''edited the title of this thread to reflect the questions asked''

I now understand the version nuances between the browsers and thanks for the response. Now what, if anything, can I do to address the continuum of Flash crashes since I find it difficult to believe that I'm the only user experiencing this anomaly?

  • Inserting Flash video and playback question

    Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 and I have inserted a Flash movie into a web page.  It's working fine, except that I would like it to automatically go to a different web page when the video is done playing.  Is there a setting for this within Dreamweaver itself or do I have to write an HTML script of some kind to make it do that?
Help and advice are appreciated. :)
    Thanks, ryan

I don't have any experience at all with Actionscript.  Do I have to buy Flash?   Or can I access/edit it as part of Dreamweaver?

I did't do that. I don't want to boot from the RAID. I want to boot from a single S-ATA Drive attached to ICH8. I just want to have the RAID available in Windows as second drive.
EDIT: I just tried that and moved the Bootable addon-card to the first position. But the Controller-BIOS still doesn't show.
    Regards, Pioneer.
I read about this problem earlier. Some PCIe SATA raid controller did just boot on this mobo. I know that much that in the "hdd boot priority" he didint get any hdds to see from this controller and put option "bootable addon card" to first one. No boot.
He changed to pci contoller -> ok. Maybe pcie problem, maybe not.
I have been my self having problems with SCSI hardware. I got 3 cards, all designed to work with 32bit pci (2 actually 64bit, but support 32 too).
    1) Adaptec 2100s, bad write performance unusable
    2) Mylex Acceleraid 1100 even worse read peformance, unboottable from bios.
    3) Atto U3LS works 100%, bad card :S
When I connect some scsi devices to these cards, mylex wont show any hdd in my bios.
Both adaptec and Atto shows in HDD boot priority like:
    Att168 06 : IBM IC35.....
    Ada162 02 : Maxtor Atlas 4k10_73wls
So I would guess that if you dont see any HDD's there from your card, you just cant boot from it.
Also if you get another raid contoller, i would suggest u to check somewhere someone claiming it works on this board.
For performance issues, refer to my thread, see last 2 posts some benchmark pictures.

  • Blue screen with flashing folder and question mark on startup

    Hello.
I need help with my Macbook Pro.  I get a blue screen with a flashing folder and a question mark at start up.  To date I have tried the following:
Apple Hardware (Extensive) Test (Results:  "No Trouble Found")
    Safe Boot
    Reset NVRAM
Reinstall OS X via the internet (I received no discs when I purchased it).  I select the StartUp Disk to reinstall. When reinstalling via the internet I get to a point of reinstalling Mountain Lion but it asks me to choose a drive - yet there are no drive options to choose from. Then a window comes up asking me to "Select the system you want to use to start up your computer" but no options appear.  When I choose "Restart" a note pops up saying "You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk.  Startup Disk could not gather enough information on the selected disk."
The only option is "Restart" from the Apple menu.  When I choose that it goes back to the original "Blue screen with flashing folder and question mark on startup."
    I have no Time Machine
I can't access the disc utility.
Are there any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Your hard drive has likely failed and needs replaced. That would explain why the system does not display it when you attempt to reinstall the OS via Internet Recovery.

  • Mac book pro 13 inch flashing folder and question mark

when i restarted my computer last night a white screen appeared with a flashing folder and a question mark.  I'm just trying to determine what the issue is, is the hard drive shot? I've inserted my installation disc to re download the software but it will not recognize anywhere to download the software to...

Check the Disk Utility. If the drive shows up there, repair or erase it. If not, it's either become unplugged or is dead.

  • Flashing bios + ME ofZ87-G45 Gaming Mainboard from 1.5 to the latest 1.9.

I  have been reading and watching a lot of videos on the subject..including the general threads here.
So my understanding has become ...  do not use  liveupdate 6 (mine can't even tell what I have installed).  M-flash is the official way to flash bios and it works well if you choose uefi + ME.
I want to flash my bios because my USB 3 front ports have always been flaky and hoping for a bit more system stability (4 cpu hardware corrected errors since put together system in march) and in ultra rare case  system will become unresponsive. Plus, will have room to upgrade to new cpu in future.
I did not enable the overclocking in the bios, but it is enabled.  From what I have read ..is it then true that I must disable this before flashing?
I have also downloaded the 1.9 bios for my Z87-G45 Gaming Mainboard and placed it on a USB 2.0 flash drive that must be plugged into a back usb 2.0 port (though mouse and keyboard are in the legacy ports).
My understanding is that I simply have to boot into the bios ...with the usb stick plugged in ..  disable the overclocking and then choose upgrade uefi bios + ME.   choose the file  listed and wait.  When it is flashed, it will reboot and then flash ME.
My question here is .. how will it flash ME?  does the bios file also have the ME information?
And after the bios is successfully updated  and set back to how it was set before the flash ...  the last step, I understand ..is to install the ME driver package ...  I have the ME10  zip of 75 meg ready.
Do I understand this correctly ...  other than needing to know how ME gets flashed from the one bios file (which is E7821IMS.190)?
Is there anything else I need to ask to make this update foolproof?
    TIA for the help )

To make it foolproof follow the below, it will update bios and ME firmware. After flashing ME driver needs to be reinstalled in Windows too.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7817IMS_660.rar.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip

  • Flash bios via Mflash utility...

I just updated my motherboards bios, gaming 5 mobo, using Mflash utility in msi, with flash drive,,, I have read the forums that says when choosing what bios to flash, I have to choose "flash BIOS and ME",,, I forgot if I did choose that option, but what if I happen to choose the other one that says " flash single file",,, my bios update is successful.. so what did I do wrong??? Know my motherboard just keeps on blinking, then will go off fast then turn on again..

You've already been told that your board is bricked.

  • Can't flash bios on DV6000 (DV6408nr) laptop.

    Hi all,
I downloaded the current bios update from the HP site. When i try to flash the bios, the utility finishes all the steps then just sits on the last item > Flashing Bios and never really updates the bios. I waited almost 20 minutes then I just pulled the power plug and luckly, the computer rebooted.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

    As a note, I'm running Windows 7 x64.
I'm trying to update to bios F.42 from F.3D.

  • FX5900Nu: msi x gainward x Bios and why ppl flash their cards.

I have a gainward fx5900 1100 400/700 2.8ns 128 and I cut off some board tracks testing water cooling fittings (more like drunk friend nests board on top of cutting tools).
Anyway, it's the simplest fx5900Nu model from gainward.
I had to finish the tests with the cooler, so I went out and bought a "MSI SUPERIOR PRODUCT fx5900sp vdt256".
I also have an old MSIti4600 4x and its a totally awsome board, so I though the SP would be great too. It's also has similar clock/mem specs 2.8 as the gainward, exept for the memory size. Before bothering to dismantle the huge cooler from the Msi I ran tests so I could compare both boards "stock cooled".
I tested both with 56.55 and these are my "results":
With the gainward I was able to IN AN EASY WAY to find ZILLIONS OF BIOS FILES, and they are nice ppl too, they write a little bat file so all u have to do to flash the bios is SIMPLY type : flash -> enter and it's done . If you try to flash to a diferent model they prompt you to confirm..DoNe...u dont have to D.O.S. your way into Nvflash wich is also a dread to less experienced users. (I wont even mention my feelings about Msi's "live update" feature)
Boot a floppy, type "flash", Boot.
30 seconds later I'm back into windows with the new bios.
I flashed 2 5950U , 2 5900U and FIVE 5900Nu bios files thus finding the best set for my card (one of the 5 5900nu testeds) increasing the card's performance at least 20~30% default AND overclocked.
    Getting scores like 55k Aniso off/50k Aniso on  Aquamark, 6,8k Fm2k3 , 19k 3dm2001se...etc just from changing bios was great, that stock cooled with Agp4x on a 533 p4 3.06 @ 3.6 512 + rambus 1250mhz almost 2 year old setup.
Similar performance with temperature drops were obtained using both 5950 roms, but overall 2 of the bios writen for Nu's were absolutely perfect.
I could EASILY take it from the original 400/700 to 510/970 benching @ 507/960 without artifacts and rock solid, even with the crappy stock aluminum cooler (wich is the reason for the watercooler, that board DESERVES a Watercooling kit.).
    Msi Superior Product:
Now I just finished "testing" the Msi's SP :
    - Could not raise the memory past 820 without artifacts and didn't even test that for too long.
    - The core would quit @ 470~480, even with the bios flashed @ 5950 and now i can't even use that bios becose the memory (go back to default bug) resets to 950 and doesn't even hold long enough to be downed.
    - The scores (@480/850) were ludicrous like 49k in aquamark no Aniso and 42k aniso on...and no, it wasn't performance-drop-for-being-too-overclocked.
I didn't even bothered runing other tests, doom3alpha had terrible locks and bugs (runs fine on the gainward @ maxfps 1024 going to 30 on the heaviest parts against 17 on the Msi)
    - Why is it SO HARD to find Bios for Msi's Vga's????...my guess being becose they (Msi) simply don't make them...they do one or 2 (most likelly 1),  and that's it. No further work is done to improve boards performance even though EVERY Nvidia enthusiast aways expect driver AND bios optimizations and improvements FREQUENTLY, and I think it's a real shame...Msi is falling behind while other companies are employing more resources into fine tunning and improving their current range of cards.
The reason of this post is that, as it never crossed my mind it would be hard to find Msi bios files, I never backed the original one and I need it urgently so I can flash the right bios for the Fx5900VTD256 and return the card with it's original features.
After reading about 20 posts begging for various bios (the ones asking for my model had no answers) and pll saying flat out " Why you wanna change your bios?? It's meaningless, not needed etc.." I decided to post these words on my experience on flashing bios, especially after the Dx9 paranoia and I mean..we all flash mobo's bios frequently...
Good bios files and good drivers are a card's soul, I do not care for extra Cd's and stuff I won't even take out off the box.
I care about good performance and hard working on tunning/feedback/updating and I aways thought since Msi had resources to give heaps of cd freebies (and I apreciate that too) it was becose it had the "tunning/updating" part covered.
I also would like to sugest that the all Bios files avaiable for all boards should be made publically avaiable, even if it hurts Msi's image for having less files than other manufactures. As consumers/enthusiasts we deserve to have easy access to all that can be used to improve our cards.
I apologise for my bad english, I'm from Brazil and I hope my post is constructive and sparks an effort on Msi towards improvement on the issues mentioned.
Other interesting fact I'd like to mention is thar Msi's SP has a HUGE cooling solution, on both sides, 1 fan each side for the aditional memory while Gainward's collers and sinks are basically aluminium "full cheapo mode" on, so I find it amazing that the Gainward card is so superior in performance.
So if some kind soul could post the Bios file for the FX5900SP VTD256 I'd aprecciate very much, I couldn't find it anywere in the web and tried the forum search too, but requests for the file haven't been answered and I really need this file so I can return the card as soon as possible or if there is more than one bios for this board I'd like to see if there is significant improvement. Both ones I tested (original and 5950) are plain very slow.
    regards
    Dn-Rio, Brasil

  • Flashing the Bios and UEFI

    Hello,
Should i flash my bios before switching to UEFI?
My bios is out of date by about a year. However, it seems like 'flashing your
bios' affects more then just your initial bootup and thus affects your system
regardless if you use a bios or uefi boot.
Second, the reason i'm interested in switching to UEFI is because i just ran
dmidecode and it said my motherboard supports UEFI. So does that mean that acer
(the vendor of my motherboard/laptop) has some instructions hardcoded somewhere on my
motherboard that will run for a UEFI startup like a BIOS startup?
I sound confused because i am confused...
    Thank you!

IMHO, the prevalent use of the term "BIOS" to refer to all motherboard firmware is a source of confusion.
When IBM introduced its first PCs, the motherboard's firmware was called the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). Clones used reverse-engineered BIOSes, and over the years the basic structure of the BIOS has not changed, although it's grown to support new hardware and features. Still, it's remained very much a basic system.
Most PCs sold in the last two years, by contrast, use an entirely different type of firmware, the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) or its newer version, the Unified EFI (UEFI). The Wikipedia article sums it up:
Wikipedia wrote:UEFI is meant to replace the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) firmware interface, present in all IBM PC-compatible personal computers. In practice, most UEFI images provide legacy support for BIOS services.
In other words, EFI/UEFI is not a BIOS. It does provide a BIOS compatibility layer (known as the Compatibility Support Module, or CSM), but this is to the EFI as WINE or dosemu is to Linux -- it provides an emulation layer that enables it to run software intended for another environment. CSM doesn't make EFI a BIOS any more than WINE makes Linux Windows. There is one notable exception: Some very early EFI implementations are built atop BIOS; the EFI runs as, essentially, a BIOS-level program. Such computers have both a BIOS and an EFI. Most recent EFIs, though, are just that, and the only sense in which they have a BIOS is that the EFI has a CSM.
IMHO, much of the confusion over EFI is due to a misunderstanding of this relationship. People think that EFI is an advancement of BIOS technology and so they expect it to work like a BIOS, but this is fundamentally incorrect. EFI is very different from BIOS. To be sure, software developers try to make EFI seem familiar, as in a setup utility that's likely to be structured in the same way or boot loaders that look identical on both systems. Underneath the user interfaces, though, BIOS and EFI work very differently. (Many EFIs also sport flashier user interfaces than do most BIOSes, but this is just window dressing.)
Moving on to the question, if your vendor offers an update to your EFI, it's probably a good idea to use it. One of the problems with EFI is that it's both big and buggy. This has led to a lot of system-specific problems, because System X has bugs A, B, and C, whereas System Y has bugs C, D, and E, and System Z has bugs A, C, F, and G. An update might fix one or two of those bugs. OTOH, any firmware update is at least a little bit risky -- a power failure at an inopportune time or some other problem with flashing the firmware can brick the computer. You might therefore want to research your specific computer to learn if it has significant EFI problems. As a general rule, though, I tend to tentatively favor upgrading the firmware before attempting to install Linux in EFI mode.
The firmware (whether BIOS or EFI) is most important in the boot process. Assuming it boots correctly, upgrading the firmware is unlikely to affect the computer once it's running. (In the case of EFI, one possible exception is in how the efibootmgr tool works -- but that tool is used to control the boot process.)

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.
