Flash BIOS problem

Hi!
I am about to install my new processor (Athlon XP 1700+) on my K7T Turbo v3 board. Before I do this I want to upgrade my BIOS from version 2.1 to version 3.5.
The problem is I don't know how to do the flash. I have downloaded the right bios version with the flash tool AWFL789.EXE, but I need (?) to make a boot disk. Problem is, I'm running win2k so I can't make a boot disk. How do I work around this problem?  ?(
/Melkor

Ok here is the first thing DONT FLASH YOUR BIOS WITH 2000/XP bootdisks. Go to BOOTDISK and download win98/ME bootdisk and then flash your bios from HDD(not from floppy). If you are using NTFS you have to use the RAMDRIVE which you will get when you boot up with win98/ME bootdisks.(cause these system disks cant recognize NTFS). Why am I telling you everything read it yourself.BIOS FLASH

  • GE60 2OC flashing bios problem

HI and a Happy New Year to everybody !
I am presently running the following:
    BIOS: E16GCIMS.510
    EC Version: 16GCEMS1  Ver 5.05
    Windows-8 (as delivered)
    Upgraded:
    2 X 128GB Plextor m5m SSD, running Raid-0
    16GB Ram
Everything is running very fast, however Windows-8 is "after me" to upgrade to Windows-8.1, so I decided to flash the bios fra 510 to 617 and followed EXACTELY the two flashing modes described on the download page: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE60-2OC.html#download
Before flashing using 1st methodology, I changed:
    SATA-mode to AHCI from RAID
    Fast Boot to DISABLED
    Boot mode select to LEGACY
and I received this message: EFI-SECURITY-VIOLATION! Rom image version is invalid
after which I tried to rechange to Load Setup Defaults, but received the same message also after using Default Setup but changed to AHCI from Raid
Then I tried the 2nd methodology, which gave me this message:
    4-error:
Rom file ROMID is not compatible with existing Bios ROMID.
I would be happy for any help, please?
    Kurt

    Hi Svet!
I was just hoping that you would have the time to "straightening me out" of my  confusion!
Thanks a lot, it just worked using the above method nr. 1., and it gave me a slightly faster speed on the raid-0

  • Flashing bios problem

hmm, seems I get this flash rom is write-protected error when trying to flash. Funny thing is I'm using the same floppy I flashed before with going from 1.48beta back down to 1.47. Only thing I did is extract the 1.42 beta onto the floppy. Everything seems cool until its starts the flashing process.
Confusing me alittle cause I know there isn't any jumper or option in the bios that locks out flashing.
I tried setting up a new floppy with same results.
    anyone?

Thanks for the reply. I fixed it by flashing(windows flashed) back to 1.3 using live update. Then I was able to flash to 1.42. Something must of been corrupted with the 1.47 bios that I was using.

  • MSI 770T-C45 won't post after flashing BIOS with M-FLASH

After flashing AMIBIOS 8.3 to v8.7 with M-FLASH via USB stick I can't get any post.
Had I read this forum before I wouldn't have done it, but here I am.
Fan starts, LEDs are off, no beeps at all, power button does nothing. Black screen.
After force flashing (yes, I am THAT stupid) the prompt said it would reboot in 5 seconds and after that nothing.
    Here's my setup:
    Board: MSI 770T-C45
    Original Bios: v8.3
Flashed Bios:  v8.7 (flashed with M-FLASH)
VGA:   EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
    PSU:   Enermax FMAII EG465AX-VE 460W
    CPU: AMD Phenom x4 9650
    MEM: Kingston DDR2-667 4x2GB KVR667D2N5/2G
    HDD: SAMSUNG 840 SSD 250GB
    OS: Windows 8 Pro 64bit
I tried every CMOS clearing method found in previous posts and threads (including this and this.)
    1. Unplugged from power, waited 5 minutes, removed the battery (5mins), changed jumper position (5min), switched it back (5min), plugged it in (5min) and powered up with and without USB stick in the hub next to network hub with old BIOS (v8.3) inside. Pressed CTRL+HOME, anything, not a single message or beep or LED flashing.
Also I removed all RAMs and kept one in the first socket. Nothing.
I really don't know what to do next. What seems to differ from other users is LEDs non working, what does that mean?

The problem here is that after update 8.6 the m-flash module was updated, so yes your mobo is a brick, but there is still hope for it. I had the same situation a few days ago with the exact same model and was able to recover it by following the steps on listed on the below posts:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133578.0
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=129989.0
It may seem complicated at first, but trust me its not at all.
Anyways you probably already have another mobo, send it for RMA or used it as frisbee, but it may come handy for some other doing the same noob flashing as we did

Ok, from you're answer I understand that  flashing the GPU with a compatible vBIOS is either not a solution for the problem,
yes don't think that can help for this case
and also will be high risky to brick your card
and even if its not bricked[survive flashing] don't think that can change anything
eventually you can try flashing your system notebook BIOS to the latest version for your notebook,
to check if that can helps by chance.
For it you have to ask your notebook vendor [power notebooks]
to provide you with the latest BIOS for your NB
rather than this don't think any modded stuffs can help with this.

  • MSI P35 Neo2 (MS-7345) strange BIOS problem

    Hi all,
My first post here - just wondering if someone could help me.
I recently 'accidentally' flashing my bios version from 1.8 to 1.C on my MS-7345 (P35 Neo 2) board, after deciding to install live update. While I know it's often considered a bad idea to flash the bios when everything's working, but I did it anyway. Since doing it I got many many BSODs. I'm running XP Pro 32 bit btw. I got these BSODs mostly when the computer was working hard, but not always. I'd barely be able to do anything sometimes. Occasionally Windows would even crash on start-up.
I made sure that i was running the latest drivers for all my components, peripherals, etc, including motherboard and graphics card. I even reformatted my HDD and reinstalled Windows from scratch just in case it was a virus. However, the problem has continued, and I even got a few BSODs during my reinstallation of Windows XP Pro.
Another thing I tried was reverting back to the old bios version (1.8), but this made no difference, so I eventually returned to the latest 1.C.
I've written down all the error message codes somewhere, though I've currently misplaced the sheet I wrote them on. If you need to know the exact codes I can locate it and add it to this thread. I probably got about 30 BSODs per day. Often they were IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL type ones, but definitely not just that. Each code I got I researched thoroughly to see if I could work out the problem. Some pointed to RAM Failure, some to HDD problems, some to bad Graphics card, some to corrupt drivers. Pretty much anything you can think of, the errors 'blamed'. However, I had a hunch regarding the bios / motherboard.
I eventually discovered (by chance) after re-flashing the bios (which I'm doing in DOS using the suggested AFUD after a reboot) that if I...
    1. Switch on the computer
    2. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing Del
    3. Turn of the boot sector protection (in order to flash bios) and set USB stick to be the first boot device
    4. Boot to DOS from my USB stick and flash the bios in DOS
    5. Reboot
    This is the critical bit...
    6. When when I get the 'Bad checksum, Press F1 to enter BIOS setup or F2 to use default values' PRESS F2 (it won't work if you go into bios setup as this will then require another reboot before loading windows).
    7. Let Windows XP load as normal.
If I follow all the above steps (I discovered this by mistake), the computer is 100% stable. I even tried some burnout tests and played some cpu & gpu intensive games with settings on full to give it a real workout, which previously would have ended up in a BSOD within seconds.
    However....
If I then reboot the computer (or shut down and switch it back on the next day) and let windows load, it will be unstable again, just as before!
In other words, I'm currently having to flash the bios every time I switch on my PC or reboot it in order to get a stable system.
So this problem isn't fixed - but I've found a workaround at least for now.
Incidentally I've tried installing a new CR2032 bios battery, since I thought it might be losing settings on reboot, but this didn't make any difference.
I personally don't think it's actually the BIOS Reflashing that's making it work - just something weird in the bios settings. It's as if 'erasing the checksum' (cleaning out these dodgy bios settings), which forces the PC to load the defaults the next time it boots, is helping. I have to just mention that going into bios set-up and choosing 'Load Fail-Safe Defaults' does NOT help, since the computer reboots when you 'Save Settings and Exit'. It's as if the bios settings corrupt every time on boot, which causes the crashes.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

To return to the previous bios, just download the one you want and use the forums tool.
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P35-Neo2-FR---FIR.html#/?div=BIOS
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Before you do that, try to boot and enter bios. Hit f6 for optimized defaults save and exit see if the problem persists.

  • N500 won't boot windows xp after flashing BIOS

Hi, I purchased an N500 a couple weeks ago, it's been running fine on xp, except occassionally I'd get disconnected from the internet (a line problem, not the computer, happens here in egypt) but the wireless would not automatically reconnect to my line once the line was back up.  The log file for the wireless card said something like "unable to set proper band" when this happened.  Anyway my driver version was the latest version, so I thought maybe I needed to update bios.  So I flashed bios using the flashbios utility that is listed on the lenovo website in the download section dedicated to my laptop model.  The laptop then restarted itself, and then I got the black screen that says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start correctly...." blah blah blah.with options to start up in safe mode, last known configuration that worked etc.  However when I choose ANY of these options about 3 seconds later I get the blue screen of death, and the computer restarts!  So how do I get myself out of this mess!  Thanks Lenovo for that great Flash utility by the way!!

Try reinstall the OS. I hope it works. My opinion is when you update BIOS, The OS detected as a new computer (for some pcs). Try repair The OS with boot from CD.
    Good Luck,....

  • What we need - a guide on how to flash bios, setup bios, and raid

Ok, a topic I see very often on many forums, and several times here, is the following; How to flash bios, how to setup the bios settings, and how to setup the raid array, and then setup the bios to boot from the raid array. Could we perhaps pull our heads togheter and write a detailed guide on these three topics, taking into account how to do it on the most used (commonly written about) MSI boards? and perhaps put as a sticky?
It would help many novice users trying to deal with these problems. I am willing to write on the subject of flashing bios on the MSI K8N SLI Platinum and how to install a Bios Saviour.

  • MSI GT70 (0NE-452) Refuses to Boot/random shut downs - BIOS problem?

    Hello,
I recently purchased a MSI GT70 0NE-452 laptop from Xotic PC. It came with Windows 8, but since Windows 8 broke most of Adobe Premiere, Vegas, and After Effects, I wiped the RAID0 SSDs and installed Windows 7. I've reinstalled all the drivers and have been comfortably setup for about a week or 2. Unfortunately now, the laptop has been behaving strangely.
    1) Random shutdowns, regardless of whether I'm connected to power or not. And I know it isn't because the battery died. (This might be fixed now since I downloaded another driver for the CPU Thermal  Control)
    2) Laptop won't turn on first-try. I press the power button and the power button flashes orange but nothing happens. It will only turn on once I've removed the battery and put it back in.
I have a feeling this could be a BIOS problem, and possibly attributable to the Windows 7 reformat, but I'm not sure. My BIOS is currently: American Megatrends Inc E1762MS.50U, 11/23/12.
The MSI website for my model has a Bios update:
    Release Date: 2012-12-14
Description: Fix HDMI/DP hot plug no function after S3 resume
    Non-Win8
    E1762IMS.30R
Can someone please advise? Should I try my hand at flashing the BIOS with this update and hope it solves the problem, or should I just call MSI and get it fixed by them?
Any help is much appreciated, thank you very much!

I'll take your advice but can you clarify a bit? Is it something beyond a BIOS repair?
