Flash Builder 4.7 slows to the point of being unusable

I've read a few similar forum posts but haven't found any solutions that fix the problem.  I've ramped up the mem usage in the ini file as discussed in this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/5237664#5237664, but this allows the mem to balloon way to high IMHO for this application.  Instead of repeating what other posts are saying pleas refer to http://forums.adobe.com/message/5338632#5338632, and http://forums.adobe.com/message/5131645#5131645 for a similar description of what I am experiencing.  Is this a known issue that is going to be addressed in an update?  Or, is this something I can fix on my own?  I haven't used FB much today but have had it opened and it is currently using close to 2gb of memory.  That seems a bit high.

  • Adjustment brush (retouch) slow to the point of being unsusable

    First, system and config info:
    Mac Pro (2 x 2.66Ghz)
    6 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon 4870 w/512MB VRAM
    OS X 10.6.2
    Aperture 3.0.1
    Aperture library is on a separate disk from the referenced images. Neither the library nor the images are on the boot drive.
    My test image is a raw NEF file of a waterfall with some graffiti on nearby rocks. If I send the image to Photoshop CS3 as an external editor I can stamp/clone a layer to brush out the graffiti and the response is, for all practical purposes, instantaneous. If I use the "retouch" adjustment within Aperture 3 in "clone" mode, I get a the dreaded spinning beachball and a "loading" pop-up. The response is so slow that it is very difficult to make any sort of fine adjustment.
    FWIW, I have been using Adobe Lightroom for the past couple of years but decided to take another shot at Aperture (I had tried v 1.1 but did not like it) because of the new features, especially Places and the new targeted adjustment tools. However, the adjustment tools are just dog slow even on a pretty well configured system. If I have to continue to do a round trip to PS CS3 for adjustments because of the dreadful performance in Aperture, then I may as well stick with Lightroom. (I can't imagine what Aperture would be like on my MacBook Pro....).
    Anyone else having performance issues with the adjustments tools? Any ideas to improve matters?
    Thanks

    I have tried a number of the suggestions in other threads.
    The Aperture libraries are on their own separate disk. They were created from scratch, no import of older libraries. The images were imported and left in place (referenced). After a couple of weeks of use, iDefrag shows almost no fragmentation in the libraries (0.02%).
    I have done nothing to specifically start OS/X in 64bit mode. I don't see the point. The only thing that is likely to happen by forcing this is to break things. The OS is "as installed", as is Aperture 3.
    The GPU is the fastest that I can get to work on my generation Mac Pro (ATI 4870).
    Suggestions to clear cache and prefs, given that this is a clean install of Aperture and the libraries have been created new, from scratch, seem pointless but have been done anyway in the interest of completeness.
    Energy saver has been tweaked to disable spinning down the disks. In fact, since I use Final Cut Express occasionally, I have implemented the config steps suggested by Tom Wolsky in his excellent book on that application.
    At this point, I have no more spare cycles to spend troubleshooting Aperture. I am falling back to Lightroom/Photoshop. I'll circle back later, if/when Apple gets this version of Aperture sorted out. I really want to use Aperture. I like its interface and DAM model. The native targeted adjustments are a compelling feature as is Places. And the integration with the rest of Apple's application ecosystem is a big plus. However, it is hard to get past the dog-slow performance on pretty powerful hardware.

  • The spot removal tool in Lightroom 5 has suddenly started running REALLY slowly, to the point of being unusable.  What should I do?!

    My spot removal tool was working absolutely fine and then suddenly started running really slowly.  I now can't adjust easily as there's a lag of about 5 seconds between moving the mouse and the icon moving on screen. I've tried splitting my catalog (which is not actually that big - less than 3000 photos) but that doesn't work.  Help!  I really need to do some photo editing and I'm running really far behind work-wise!

    This has nothing to do with catalog size. Splitting the catalog won't help.
    This is a common issue with the spot removal tool, if you remove LOTS of spots in a single photo, it will begin to run slowly; the more spots you remove, the slower it will get. If you have a photo which requires huge amounts of spot removal, it would be better to do this in a "desctructive editor" like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

  • It seems that there is a problem with my nvidia GPU + optimus, if Firefox uses the nvidia gpu the whole GUI is messed up to the point of being unusable, if I force to use the integrated (intel) gpu runs ok

    I have a laptop with an Nvidia card (335GT) with optimus support, when I run firefox with the Nvidia GPU the buttons flicker around, sometimes they disappear. the menus doesn't show, some text in the screen doesn't show, etc.
    at first I trough it was an extension so I disabled every extension but no luck.
    Once I noticed that Firefox was using the nvidia gpu I trough on forcing it to use the integrated card (intel HD) to save battery, to my surprise the problem corrected once I did it.

  • MacBook has slowed to the point of crashing everytime?

    So, my MacBook Air (Mid 2011, 2GB Ram) has become so slow to the point of it crashing in every app. It's fairly understandable as it's old and the memory is only 2GB. I will be buying the new MacBook on its release, but is there anything I can do to keep this one going until then?
    The apps I use that cause it to crash:
    Spotify
    Skype
    iTunes
    Photoshop Elements 11 (Photoshop CC will not run anymore)
    Safari
    Minecraft
    I am running on Yosemite and I am about 16GB free of 60 (I am unable to find what all these files are, I am sure that I have not used that much space; I have used multiple applications to try and get rid of the files, but no luck)
    I ran EtreCheck and these are the stats:

    Hello BetseyH,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your MacBook Air. Given the amount of RAM that this machine has, you may have to be particularly frugal memory-wise regarding which programs you run, especially when running them at the same time (you may need to close unnecessary apps whenever possible). For more detailed information about overall memory pressure and individual application memory loads, as well as other potential system resource issues, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Flash Builder 4 super slow when Workspace and Project is on Network Drive

    Hi I was wondering if maybe it is not common practice to create a workspace and project in a Network Drive? When I do this Flash Builder runs extremely slow ( build workspace slow, saving slow, code hinting slow, undo slow, etc, etc, etc). Very painful!
    When I place the same project locally on my C drive everything runs fine. So should I not be running things off the network? I would really like to since all my files are on the network with backup system. Can anyone offer some advice? Or maybe I need to optimize something? Thanks
    - D

    Hi.
    Having your workspace and project on a network drive is not recommended as Flash Builder writes and reads a lot from the workspace and that will be slow.
    A version control system such as svn or git with a repository hosted on your network drive should be perfectly fine. (You only take the hit when you check in and check out)

  • Are Flash Builder 4 and Flex 4 the same ?

    Hi Everyone,

    1. Are Flash Builder 4 and Flex 4 the same ?
    Yes, flash builder 4 was the name given to what is effectively flex 4.
    This answer is, essentially wrong.
    Flex 4 is a Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes a compiler, a user interface framework, and a few other items.
    Flash Builder 4 is an IDE that can be used to develop Flex applications.  Flash Builder 4 can also be used to code ActionScript w/o any dependencies to the Flex Framework.
    Grizzzzzzzzzz wrote: 2. Are Flash Builder 4 and Flash CS4 the same ?
    No, Creative suite 4 is a software library consisting of many different programs
    This answer is much more correct; but for additional clarification:
    Flash Builder 4 is an IDE that programmers can use to develop applications for the Flash Platform.
    Flash Professional CS4 is an IDE that Designers can use to create time-line based animations for the Flash Platform.
    One is geared for designers; and another for programmers.  In theory they can be used to reach the same end point although I wouldn't want to do application programming in Flash Professional; nor would I Want to do design stuff in Flash Builder.

  • Flash Builder 4.7, eGit and the 'Label Decorations'

    Used 4.6 along with eGit and there were little arrows if you were pushes or pulls behing your remote tracking branch.
    Now with 4.7 they are gone. Looked it up under Preferences->Team->Git->Label Decorations->Text Decorations and the { branch_status} decoration was gone. Also it didn´t show anymore in "Add Variables". So I added it back in manually, but to no avail. Problem persists.
    Checked whether eGit was the problem with a clean install of Eclipse and eGit and there the little arrow decorations show. Thus it must be Flash Builder. Anyone had/has the same problem and a fix for it??? I´ve been looking and trying for hours to fix this.

    Figured it out. Don´t know where the egit installation came from but it was incompatible with fb 4.7.
    Added http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates
    to update sites, installed an update, now it works properly.

  • Do I need flash builder 4 to work with the flex sdk?

    Is it necessary to use flash builder 4 to work with the flex sdk?
    Can you build apps just using the open source flex sdk. If so are there tutorials and books on how to do so?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    No, you don't need Flash Builder to use the Flex SDK. If you download the SDK and unzip it, you'll find a 'bin' directory that has the mxmlc compiler in it. You can compile Actionscript or MXML files using that.
    ./mxmlc MyFlexApp.mxml
    If you are building an AIR application, you will use amxmlc
    ./amxmlc MyAIRFlexApp.mxml
    Then, launch your AIR application using adl
    ./adl.exe MyAIRFlexApp-app.xml
    Hope this helps,
    Joan

  • Is there anyway to change Info.plist settings and use Flash Builder 4.6 to package the iOS app?

    Hi there,
    I've tried to package my app with the latest Xcode 4.5 (version 19 Sep 2012) iOS 6 SDK, Flash Builder 4.6, Flex SDK 4.6 with Air 3.5 Beta overlay.
    and unzip the .ipa file and i found the following automated settings on the Info.plist file was wrong:
    <key>DTPlatformVersion</key>
            <string>5.1</string>
            <key>DTSDKBuild</key>
            <string>9B176</string>
            <key>DTSDKName</key>
            <string>iphoneos5.1</string>
    According to the Adobe specs, these settinsg are unchangeble, is there anyway to change these values to produce .ipa file that with iOS 6.0 settings with Flash Builder 4.6?
    I believe this cause the following appstore submission issue with the iPhone 5 4-inch display splash screen image [email protected]:
    Invalid Launch Image - You app contains a launch image with a size modifier that is only supported for apps built with the iOS 6.0 SDK or later.
    Many thanks,
    A

    Not everyone here was involved in the conversations that led up to this file, so here are some extra clues:
    In your AIR3.5 folder (or whatever you named the folder) is a lib folder. Inside that is the current adt.jar file. Rename that in case you have to go back to it, and drag the supplied adt.jar file into the lib folder. Now publish your app.
    You won't even need to quit Flash or Flash Builder.
    Once you have the new IPA, go through the usual upload steps to the App Store, using Application Loader, and the file should process ok in iTunes Connect. Note, you will be asked to provide iPhone 5 screenshots.

    I was working for a long time already with the Flex Builder Plug-in 3. Compilation time was always a headache, true, but it still was affordable. But with the Flash Builder 4 production that became so bad that I can't simply use it event to test.
    When started form the "clean" workspace, bundled Eclipse and only one project (Flex) is created - everything looks fine. Even if you add a "hello world" pop-up to your application (that's sarcasm, yeah =)
    The situation changes dramatically when you have any number (greater than zero of course) of Java projects in your workspace.
    Compilation time skyrockets to about 1 - 2 minutes - first (on an empty project created with wizard). Second - it starts crashing with or without reason.
    When I'm trying to create a new Flex project (having several Java projects in the workspace) - the moment the wizard is complete and it's going to show me the contents of the newly created MXML (yes, a few lines with no logic at all) it crashes. When I'm trying to open existing project - well, it opens, but compilation times are greater than 2 minutes (that's a tiny project with a few screens with primitive design, three AS classes and two CSS files and one image included) whenever I just put an empty string to even the main MXML.
    When I'm trying to switch to design view - it crashes 80% of time. The rest 20% it show "gray field" and bugs UI completely.
    When building starts - the only way to avoid it ... well ... go drink a tea. It's impossible to cancel and if I try to cancel it - it hangs forever. Only killing the eclipse process helps.
    And, really, 2 minutes of compilation time? Are you serious? It's like, change the line of code, save, wait 2 minutes with 50% chance of observing never-ending activity?
    Btw, I've tested the Flash Builder Beta - there were no such problems. Everything was really cool and smooth. Compilation time was even faster than Flex Builder 3. And such a surprise with the production version.
    It's all with the JDK 6u14 (yes, I've tested it with the most recent one - 6u18 - the same picture).
    So, is there anyone experiencing the same behavior and any hints on how to fix it? It's really annoying especially knowing and waiting to get hands on all those great SDK 4 features.
    Thanks!

    I think the longer compile times when embedding fonts are sort of to be expected. You're embedding an awful lot of glyphs into your SWF (versus using device fonts or setting an explicit unicode range).
    For example, I tried with the following simple example in Flex 4.0:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
            xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
            xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
            applicationComplete="lbl.text = (loaderInfo.bytesTotal / 1024).toFixed(2) + ' KB';">
        <fx:Style>
            @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
            @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
            @font-face {
                fontFamily: Calibri;
                fontWeight: normal;
                fontStyle: normal;
                src: url("c:/windows/fonts/calibri.ttf");
            @font-face {
                fontFamily: Calibri;
                fontWeight: bold;
                fontStyle: normal;
                src: url("c:/windows/fonts/calibrib.ttf");
            @font-face {
                fontFamily: Calibri;
                fontWeight: normal;
                fontStyle: italic;
                src: url("c:/windows/fonts/calibrii.ttf");
            @font-face {
                fontFamily: Calibri;
                fontWeight: bold;
                fontStyle: italic;
                src: url("c:/windows/fonts/calibriz.ttf");
            global {
                 fontFamily: Calibri;
                 fontSize: 24;
        </fx:Style>
        <s:controlBarContent>
            <s:Label id="lbl" color="red" fontWeight="bold" />
        </s:controlBarContent>
        <s:VGroup horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0">
            <s:Label text="Calibri regular" />
            <s:Label text="Calibri bold" fontWeight="bold" />
            <s:Label text="Calibri italic" fontStyle="italic" />
            <s:Label text="Calibri bold+italic" fontWeight="bold" fontStyle="italic" />
        </s:VGroup>
    </s:Application>
    Now, the .SWF file in my /bin-debug/ folder was pretty large (~1440 KB -- or about 1.4 MB). When I exported a release version of the .SWF using Builder that number dropped down to ~970 KB (or 0.9 MB). Still rather large.
    Typically when embedding fonts you'll want to specify a unicode range so you only embed the characters you care about (English uppercase/lowercase, punctuation, numbers, etc). Or you could embed Thai ranges or whatever else you want.
    So if I specify the following unicode range for each of the four embed statements, the SWF sizes drop considerably:
    unicode-range
    : U+0020-002F,U+0030-0039,U+003A-0040,U+0041-005A,U+005B-0060,U+0061-007A,U+007B-007E;
    /bin-debug/: ~970 KB (67%)
    /bin-release/: ~520 KB (53%)
    You can find some examples of unicode ranges in the /frameworks/flash-unicode-table.xml file in the Flex SDK. Also, you can specify custom named unicode ranges in your /frameworks/flex-config.xml file:
    <!-- Defines ranges that can be used across multiple font-face declarations. -->
    <!-- See flash-unicode-table.xml for more examples. -->
    <!-- not set -->
    <!--
    <languages>
      <language-range>
        <lang>englishRange</lang>
        <range>U+0020-007E</range>
      </language-range>
    </languages>
    -->
    And this way you could just specify a unicode-range of "englishRange" instead of having to do U+0020-002F, etc.
    Hope that helps,
    Peter

  • Flash builder 4 and "Burrito" is the same app?

    Hello!
    I recently bought CS5 Master, and im now digging into android development.
    I was about to start this tutorial: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/employee-directory-android-flex.html
    But I don't have "Flex Mobile Project" in my "Flash builder 4" program!!?
    So I do some research on burrito and thinking to myself that it might be something else than flash builder 4, kind of like photoshop and lightrom.
    But when I download "burrito" it says installing "Flash builder".
    What is going on?
    Why can't I just create a "Flex Mobile Project" from my Flash Builder 4?
    Do I have to install something into my Flash builder 4 maybe? perhaps a Android SDK extension? How do I do that?
    I hope someone can help me on this subject, as I find the documentation somewhat unclear.

    Hi Martin,
    Flex Mobile project is only available with Flash Builder Burrito (which is a preview release of the version after Flash Builder 4) available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder_burrito/
    Flash Builder 4 does not support mobile projects.
    Thanks,
    Anirudh

  • Skype broken to the point of being completely useless

    Windows 8.1Skype 7.5.85.102IE 11.0.9600.17631  I have been frustrated with Skype since I upgraded to Windows 8.  I installed the desktop version and when someone called both versions would ring and after I answered one, the other would keep ringing.  I uninstalled the metro version and that's when things really started to go south. I have never answered calls from someone else.  Not once on this computer has that worked.  I click on the answer button and it just keeps ringing and ringing.  Both versions till ring despite every last trace of the tiled version being removed.  I have to call someone twice before it rings at their end, if it rings at all.  I frequently get no answer even when I know the other person is sitting at their computer waiting for my call.  Maybe 1 in 10 calls go through.  It crashes repeatedly.  It stops responding and I have to kill the process.  In short, every single time it takes about 10 minutes of fiddling with it to make a call happen.  I'd have ditched it long ago but my parents know how to use it and they are not that technically savvy.  I've done the usual things, uninstalled, reinstalled, latest versions, older versions etc. etc.  If anyone here can help me I'd much appreciate it.

    Additionally ringing can come from any Oultook client.  So if you have your mail open in a browser you would either close it or disable the audio via the speaker icon on the lower right corner of the browser page.  Your audio drivers were/are crashing/becoming non-responsive which is probably assisting in causing the unresponsiveness as a whole.  I would suggest you update your outdated audio drivers to possibly even newer ones. The latest generic Realtek audio drivers (High Definition Audio Codecs - 64 bit Windows 8.1)http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ Other thing you can do: You can also run msconfig (Windows Key +R) "msconfig" and do a selective startup  (unchecking a least startup items) vs. a normal startup and see if anything changes (you can switch it back after a reboot).  If your current Firewall/AntiVirus solution is causing huge delays in your system you can try temporarily disabling/uninstalling them to see if it stops.   There is also an issue with one of the USB-based device on your system that is causing huge delays in the User-Mode Driver Framework causing it to crash.  A crash occurs when the device does not respond within the requested time which is a rather large chunk of time.  I'm not sure what this device is as nothing came up in a web search:  USB\VID_2672&PID_000E&REV_0001It could be a USB controller, MTP/Media. or storage device and updating its drivers, removing or disabling it may resolve some system-wide issues as well.  Something like a cell phone/MP3 player not drawing enough power from USB causing the device detection to go up and down partially freezing the system could be a possiblity as well.
