Flash builder closes on opening... HELP!

Hi,
All of a sudden, with one specific workspace, when starting up, Flash Builder silently closes immediately after "Loading Workbench".
I tried starting from the command prompt and saw the following error:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)>FlashBuilderC.exe
Job found still running after platform shutdown. Jobs should be canceled by the plugin that scheduled them during shutdow

What does this mean? How can I fix it?

In the workspace, there is .metadata/.plugins directory.
Not great, though. It's essentially like starting a new workspace - you have to manually reimport each project and redo any preferences etc.
There is (must be...) a better way.

Flash Builder Won't Open

When I click on the Flash Builder application, the program brings up the loading screen. However, after a few minutes, the loading screen disappears and that's it. I checked my task manager and the program isn't open. So, what's going on? I even tried to open the program directly through the Program Files instead of my desktop, just encase that was a problem. There was no difference. So I don't know what to do. I don't have any problems with any other adobe programs. So why this one?
It's Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 Premium.

I've had the same problems but with 4.7.
My solution was/is to delete the ".metadata" folder that you'll find in C:/Users/{User Name}/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7/.metadata
It will be recreated at relaunch.
The downside is that you'll lose any projects that you have there so you'll have to re-import them.
Just in case, make a copy of the folder before you delete it.
Nowadays I always keep a copy of a working .metadata folder so that I can paste it over the faulty one when things go south.
Usually happens when I have FB open and the power cuts.
(Yup, some construction going on in the area so the power has gone several times.)

Flash builder and air app Help

Hi everyone
I am new to flash builder I have many adobe products ie master collection, and have an Idea for a small application. But need it to do a few things. I have only looked into fash builder a little but want to know a few things before getting started by getting the trial and then purchasing the real deal.
With flash builder and air can I make a app that will detect the top most window on the clients computer and return the name of the program ie photoshop etc and then give me the name of the active window, tab etc.
How much scope is there for interaction with other adobe products in the master collection.
I have written a few little script before in java. vb, applescript and actionscipt but I want to know if flash builder and air combo has the functionality I need before I bother getting into it to deep.

You can run the AIR app separately, it should still be on your system (Applications > Adobe > Adobe Help or the root of your Start menu on windows).
If for some reason the app isn't there, reinstall it from http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/. There's a preference under Edit > Preferences > General Settings for "Accessibility Mode". If you select "Open Help in browser", your Adobe applications will open a browser instead of launching CHC.

Flash Builder Standalone player opens Flash CS5

Hi I have just upgraded to Flash Builder 4, and I'm running it on MAC OSX 10.6.4. I am trying to run my projects in the standalone Flash Player, and everytime I try to run my project Flash Builder opens Flash CS5. I have previoulsy used Flex Builder 3, and never had this issue. Can somone help me out with this issue?

Hi,
Flash Builder simply tells the OS to launch the SWF when generate HTML wrapper is off.
Go to Finder, right click a swf file, choose "Get Info".
Say open with, point to a standalone Flash Player and choose "Change All".

Flash Builder 4.5 newbie help

Hey guys,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and help me out. I am currently just learning actionscript 3 and I have been using flash professional in order to program most of my first flash programs, I would like to take one of my ideas and create it to work on the blackberry playbook, so I downloaded flash builder 4.5 and have set up my whole environment.
The problem im running into is that with flash professional creating movie clips and frames was as easy as adding objects to the library and then setting up the linkage so it could be used by your AS3 coding, frames and layers were added through the UI...well with flash builder I have no idea how to do this as there is no graphical interface, I am just wondering if somebody could explain to me how to create and link movie clips and work with frames using flash builder 4.5....I know this is probably a dumb question but I simply just don;t know

Hi nateatkins, Flash Builder is a software to develop flex and/or as3 applications. Do do things with Flash Builder, you need to code it in .as or .mxml files. Flash gives you the ability to make graphical element, add them to a library, animate them using the software interface and commands, and publish them right out of the box, but it is not the purpose of Flash Builder. You can use Flash to make a library of graphical elements, configure those elements to be available as Actionscript classes, then export your library as an SWC to use them in a Flash Builder project code. Or you can choose in Flash to code your actionscript using external .as files, and use flash builder to write them. Flash Builder is intended to make life easier when you work on object oriented coded projects using as3, and let you code faster. Flash have it's limitations to assist you when it's time to code, Flash Builder is here to enhance your development workflow when needed.

Flash Builder Constantly Hangs. HELP!!

I'm running Flash Builder CS5 on a 64bit Windows 7 HP box and it constantly hangs while typing, selecting text, pasting, and other normal actions in the editor. It hangs for 5 to 10 minutes and then goes back to working normal again. However, sometimes for not more than a single character being typed and it hangs again! It's gotten so frustrating I'm wondering how I am ever going to complete my AIR app. Some days it is hung for longer than it is working and so I get virtually nothing done.
Does anyone have an idea why it might constantly hang? I am not running any versions of Eclipse or Aptana on this machine.

Well, I finally figured this out. Even though I had uninstalled Webroot Security Essentials (anti-virus software) it never really was gone. Because I didn't know that I brought my machine back to factory software state and reinstalled Adobe. Flash Builder was working great so I re-installed Webroot and FB started crashing again. This time I was able to uninstall Webroot completely and FB is working again.
I switched to XFinity security (Norton) and it is still working correctly.
Although I ranted against Adobe a bit (sorry, guys) it wasn't directly their fault. Still, for the amount of money the company makes on these products it would be nice if they tested them against the leading anti-virus packages so if there is a problem it can get resolved by the software companies. Just a thought.

Flash Files failed to open - HELP!!

Hey, can somebody please help me out, I have been getting this problem everytime i try to save my document. I am tryin to make a a flash website for a collage project.
I made the design in Photoshop and imported it into Flash. It works fine untill i save it close and try to reopen it again.
I keep getting this message.
I have tried saving it in different locations. same thing happens.
any ideas on how i can recover and also how i can stop this from happening? I tried opening on differnt computers, Im on a PC here at home but the same thing happend on the iMac in collage.

Ok thanks, Ned, that is a good suggestion and i Will change the folder names but ALL of my other Adobe stuff is in that folder and has been for years. Never cause any problems. anyway windows will prompt if you try to save an invalid charater.
I have also got other flash files in that same folder that open fine and work no problem.
It seems to only be this PSD that is causing the problems.
I my PSD I have folders within folders, do yas think this might be the problem, I have made them all Movie Clips importing them, Im graspin at straws here i know but i cant think of anything else.
I have tried saving it as a compressd (.xfl) cs5 doc and same thing happens.
a cs4 will reopen but i loose the tfl text???

CS5.5 Flash Builder will not open after unistallation and reinstallation

10.8 up to date...
I have been fighting with CS5.5 on 10.8 since august 8th! Adobe helped somewhat, by helping me assure permissions were correctly set on their files. However, when i go back into the get info window , once in a while instead of seeing one of the admin users (myself and my husband) listed, I see a "fetching" in the user name colum. it just keeps searching and never stops. I have to delete the fecting and manually add our admin accounts to the permissions list. Also, in my user home folder the applications file is empty, but I can access all the apps from the HD or doc/apps alias. Is this a new thing for 10.8?
So I am down to this..., only Flash Buidler 4.5 will not open. I think it has somethings to do with the extensions. The software is up to date. Flash reinstalled, unistalled FB 4.5 and reinstalled from disk. Deleted and re-downloaded/ installed eclipse app. Niether of the original app disks have the extensions forder on it. I went to the Adobe sight and dowloaded their version of the extras (Flex builder extension, i think .)

OS X has two Applications: one in your user folder and the other at the top of the volume. Applications are installed in /Applications, and you should use the user folder for applications that you are going to open in your account only, and not in another one.

Some one help I'm getting crazy: Flash Builder 4.6 - debugging mobile on desktop : Process terminate

Hi all, I am working with FB 4.6 on a windows 7pro 64 bit I'm working at a mobile android project. I can debug it perfectly on device but if I launch it with the desktop emulator the debugger never connects. Once I close the AIR window I got "Process terminated without establishing connection to debugger", and all the trace commands. I am just noticing that both Android and Desktop have the ***IDENTICAL**** version of adobe air 3.1.0.488 Anybody can help on this? I have a bunch of network connections to debug, and it would be extremely easier to test the app on the desktop FB environment I have tried the most common things: clear project, create a new workspace and re-import the project, run FB as an admin and also re-installing the AIR runtime. Also I have the lastest JRE Thanks Alfonso

Ok, in flash builder I simply opened the project's properties panel and clicked apply. I don't get the error anymore. It's weird, I know! but it has just worked for me. Give it a go

Flash Builder Debugging keeps trying to Debug in Flash CS5. HELP!

I have the CS5 master suit installed (OSX) and am having loads of problems using the stand alone Flash Player debugger in Flash Builder.
Previously I had an error message saying it could not find the debugger, I've obviously done something as now it keeps on opening Flash CS5 and using the Flash CS5 IDE Player and gicing me this message. Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: file:////Volumes/Macintosh%20HD/Library/WebServer/Documents/TestDebug2/bin%2Ddebug/textLa yout_1.0.0.595.swf
All I want to do is use the stand alone debug flash player and debug in Flash Builder. Am I able to point Flash Builder to use a certain Debugger?
Can anybody help me?

I figured it out.
Although Adobe should have this working out of the box in my opinion.
Running OSX 10.6.4 Master Suite CS5
By default a swf opens in Flash CS5 and not the stand alone player (as I'm sure it did before in previous versions). So when you wanted to debug using the stand alone player from Flash Builder it was opening up in Flash CS5
To fix I changed the default open with program to the Flash Player Debugger. Now Flash Builder by default uses the stand alone Flash Player Debugger.

Adobe Flash Editor by default opens with Flash Professional CS4 when I have CS5 Installed ?

How can I change with which Flash Professional to open the fla files in Flash Builder? My Fla files are saved as CS5 version, they open by default with CS5 when I double click them, but still Flash Builder tries to open them with CS4 ??? I couldn't find any simple switch setting for that, anyone ?
Also is there a quick way to publish a specific fla file in Flash Builder which I want published just once not every time I save, or I have to open it in Flash Professional and publish it from there ?

To perform testing or debugging in Flash Pro with a file you are editing in Flash Builder 4:
From the Flash Builder development perspective, choose Run > Test Movie or Run > Debug Movie. Note that each menu item has a Flash Pro icon next to it. Once the SWF window or debug session is closed, focus will return to Flash Builder unless there are compiler errors in frame scripts inside the FLA file associated with the project. Information about all errors is sent to the Errors panel in Flash Builder.
To publish the FLA file associated with the current project in Flash Builder:
From the Flash Builder development perspective, choose Project > Publish Movie. Note the Flash Pro icon next to the menu command.

Flash Builder 64 on Windows 8 64

I am trying developing on vmware player 6.0 with Windows 8.1 64 and FB 4.7 64.
I am using my workspace from the host system, but Flex SDks and other FB stuff are installed on a guest system. It basically works except I am getting a very poor FB performance. Specifically, after code is modified it would take a very long time to get thru "building workspace" at 41 percent. Then it will take much longer to get thru "Launching ...". I have plenty of memory allocated for guest system and I have configured FB to use 2 G of memory. I have also configured VM to use 4 processors. Is there anything that could improve FB performance?

Yes - I have had those problems. I have just posted elsewhere about the runtime error issue - where you have to close down Flash Builder and then open and clean before you can go on debugging. I will repeat it again below - in case anyone has a solution....
We cannot delete the swf while debugging after a runtime error in Flash Builder 4.7. This is happening to our whole class and me at home. I have put up with it before because I do not make many runtime errors - but the class does almost every other time they run it. Attached is a screen shot clearly showing that the line the debugger is stuck on is commented out. It seems to be because the swf file cannot be deleted. I am on Windows 8, they are on Windows 7. I spent a day trying to find a solution - I know I can close and clean but obviously, this is not practical. And certainly not practical for beginner Flash Builder coders - especially during an exam.
I will continue to look for solutions. I have tried running as both administrator and not - I have tried reinstalling, it does not matter which version of AIR, it does not matter if it is a trial version or not.

I just installed only flash builder 4.5 and want to update 4.6 ??
what are the steps ?
Is there i have to new buy adobe flash builder 4.6 ??
or i updated my flash 4.5 so that it converts into flash builder 4.6

Conflicting or prerelease version of Adobe Flash Builder 4.6

I am installing CS6 Master Collection. However, Flash Builder 4.6 can't be installed due to "A conflicting or prerelease version of Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 exists on this computer. The conflicting version must be removed before installing from the current media."
First, I tried to uninstall, but Flash Builder was not listed. Then I deleted all flash builder related files, no help.
Then I deleted all Flash Builder related registry entries, no success.
Finally I downloaded and ran the cleaner tool (it does not have any Flash Builder related selection) and restarted, but nothing seems to help.

I too have this problem. I have always installed a complete master collection without discarding the previous version as a 'fail-safe' incase some old files do not upgrade/translate properly. I currently have the full CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 on my computer. I have had to install CS6 but without Flash Builder 4.6 due to the error "A conflicting or prerelease version of Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 exists on this computer. The conflicting version must be removed before installing from the current media.”
I do not really want to have to uninstall past versions. I have never had to do this in the past? I have also done a search and can't find anything that says Flash Builder 4.6 It seems that Flash Builder 4.5 is the most recent version on my computer that was installed with CS5.5. The only trial (or prerelease) software I have installed is Muse. This was installed months after installing Master Collection CS5.5.
Going through the troubleshooting info at post 6. It seems like it Flash Builder 4.5 (ie the previous CS5.5 install) that is causing the conflict. See text as copied from the log "WARNING: DW020: {2FC6B122-6F1F-409C-8FF0-8F8369D7F30B} Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 4.6.1.0 conflicts with: {9D0088AD-BBB1-470B-B7B8-520EDEFAE5F3} Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 4.5.0.0 Please uninstall these products, restart your computer and then run this installer again."
After uninstalling Flash Builder 4.5 (part of CS5.5 collection), I was then able to install Flash Builder 4.6. I then tried to reinstall the Flash Builder 4.5 using my CS5.5 installer but this came up as already installed; so it appears that you cannot have both Flash Builder 4.5 and Flash Builder 4.6 installed on the same computer. Is this what Adobe intended ? What is the reason for this?
