Flash buttons choosing when to work
I'm creating SIMPLE buttons using actionscript1.0/2.0 in
Macromedia Flash 8. The only thing really going on is on(release)
getURL. It works fine when I publish preview, so I uploaded the swf
to my server... works FINE on my firefox browser. it does NOT work
on IE. and it also doesn't work on other computers in my house
running the same exact version of firefox. I even downgraded the
publish settings to flash5.0 compatibility to see if that would fix
anything and it didnt. clues?
Re-install the Flash plugin for all of your browsers. See if
that clears it up.

DW8 flash button target frame not working
I'm using DW8 v8.0.2 on Windows XP Home Edition SP1. I have
created a frameset by doing the following:
- Select File>New from menu bar
- Select Framesets category
- Select Fixed Top, Nested Left in Framesets column
- Select Create
Then, I add a Flash Button in the leftFrame and target the
mainFrame by doing the following:
- Select Insert>Media>Flash Button on menu bar
- Select Blip Arrow
- Set text to Information
- Set Size to 12
- Select my information.htm file from Browse button of Link
box
- Select mainFrame from Target box drop-down list
- Enter information.swf as filename in Save as box
- Select OK
Then, I select File>Save All
When I preview in a browser, I select the button & the
content opens in a new browser window instead of the mainFrame
frame. The same happens if I select leftFrame as target. However,
_top, _self, _parent, and _blank seem to work well. I renamed
mainFrame to contentFrame & it made no difference. I tried it
in IE and Netscape, no difference, except Netscape is a lot faster.
Tried text links to do the same thing & they work fine.
Tried other flash buttons and they behave the same as Blip Arrow
button.
Saw several discussions on web & in this forum, but no
solutions. Searched Knowledgebase, no solutions.
Saw some attempts at solutions dealing with button code, but
DW8 creates .swf file & button code is not editable.
Is there a solution to this problem?I've encountered the same problem. This can't possibly be a
bug ... it's too common a function. I've noticed there has been no
reply to your posting. Have you figured out the solution from
another source? -
Flash button link will not work in CS4
Can anyone walk me through step by step to get a flash button link to work in CS4? I tries action scripts 2 and 3... I cut and pasted a bunch of code on line, watched tutorials, and no matter what i do, the link won't work in CS4. The button looks and works fine, but won't go to the web site ot web page after clicking on it.
At this point, I am so confused, i think it would be better if someone walked me through step by step. My email is [email protected] I can email the button is that would help. Thanks.

Flash button problem when scrolling
Hello.
I posted this in Dreamweaver forum as well....just in case.
I am using flash buttons for email links in my web site
rather than html email links to help with spamming.
They work great except for one thing. In my site I have a
fixed Div on the left of my pages. The content scrolls sideways
underneath the fixed div. However....the flash buttons scroll over
the TOP of the fixed div while the rest of the content goes under
as it is supposed to. I have the fixed div set at z-index of 2.
This isn't an issue in Firefox, only IE7, so far.
Any one know of an easy fix for this rather than creating a
new div for each of the buttons?
Here is the link to the problem page - its the email link in
red towards the end of the page. Watch the link go OVER the drums
as you scroll. (it should go under)
http://dev.informarch.com/wm/article3/flashBtnScrollexample.html
Thanks in advance for any help.
KenHello,
Try this and see if it works
In your HTML go to where the <object> tag is that loads
your flash button.
Add this parameter within it.
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
Then add the following inside the <embed> tag
wmode="transparent"

Why Kill of Flash Catalyst, especially when it works well?
Flash Catalyst
I skin components via an Illustrator files (also psds) received by designers. The joy of skinning and making sure the components are rasterized for performance, and having a stage to edit components and reskin them is wonderful! I adore Flash Catalyst.
Apache Flex
Now with the Flex going to Apache, the white paper states that Flash Catalyst will actually be "Removed" from future Flex releases - This baffles me!
I quote the White Paper:
Flash Catalyst CS5.5 is the last release of Flash Catalyst. At this time, it will not be updated to work with Flex SDK 4.6 (even though it does?!) or any Apache Flex releases nor will it be included in future versions of the Adobe Creative Suite software offerings.
Flash Catalyst workflows will be removed in updated 4.x versions of Flash Builder. - That is a Crime!
I would like to ask, if it is possible to stick with Flash Builder 4.6 (which works with Flash Catalyst 5.5), and continue to develop with these two tools, and no matter what Flash Player (even future ones) users have - would still render?
The idea of killing off something that works so well (if you know how/when to use it), and so enjoyable to work in, angers me!!You can find the answer. Just modify some config file.
http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2011/12/05/flash-catalyst-cs5-5-and-flash-builder-4-6/
In Applications/Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5.5/plugins/com.adobe.flexbuilder.flex_1.5.0.308731/config.xml add in a reference to 4.6. You’ll need to copy 4.6 into the sdk directory. When you publish it will publish with the 4.6 SDK. Still haven’t figured out how to add new components to the components panel or change the theme (mobile) (or add new Interactions…) You can export this project and import it into FB. Going the opposite way is a bit more trouble. You’ll get an error about the supported SDK’s. You may need to update the hidden project files to “4.5″ instead of “4.6″ which may allow you to import it again… There’s more you can update… search for plugin.xml in the plugins directory. -
Flash buttons problems when screen text set to medium in Windows 7
Anyone else have this problem that when
users have set windows 7 to Medium 125% screen size (not screen resolution), the clickable area on all buttons
in a flash menu/file are off. It's like the area to click for the button is not resized with the graphics and are no longer located over the button but stays where it is when screen size is set to 100%. With a more complicated menu, it makes it nearly impossible to click buttons at the bottom of the menu as the clickable area is located twoor more buttons up. It also seems to be happening with newer Flash files. On older versions it's not happening and the clickable area is scaled with the graphics in the Flash file. Please help!See this:

Dreamweaver Flash Buttons Paths
Hello all,
I am a novice site designer. My first challenge is to design a navigation bar once and used by all web pages. I built it using Flash buttons. The concept works fine in a flat file, but when I'm viewing a web page that sits in a different directory than the flash navigation buttons, the buttons point to a file in the current directory which doesn't exist. I want the buttons to still point to the flash files in the parent directory.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS2 to create my flash buttons. I'm using PHP include statements to include my flash navigation bar. When I create the php file in another directory, click on flash button, all heck breaks loose. I look at the URL and the link appends the PHP file that the flash button should be pointing to whatever directory my current web page is in.
It seems like, I should just create each button as a absolute path, http://rootdirectory.com/filename.php, but it still uses relative path when I'm looking at web page that sits in another directory and appends the navigation link to the current directory http://rootdirectory.com/currentdirectory/filename.php although it points to a link in the root or parent directory.
Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths? If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Adding in frames makes it even worse - you are in the deep
stuff here. Why
are you using frames?

Sleep button doesn't always work
I have the iPod touch 4th generation. The past few days the sleep button hasn't been working properly. It seems to pick and choose when it works. When it doesn't work, I have to wait a minute for the iPod to put itself to sleep.
Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it a case of it being faulty and having to send it back and have it replaced?
ThanksTry the basic troubleshooting steps. If it still does it, contact Apple and get the switch replaced.

Hi, I'm a novice to Dreamweaver/webdeveloping.
I have a simple site with a 3 frame frameset. I have flash
buttons in the leftframe openining the links in the mainframe. Well
But when I test it in a browser (Safari) The button opens the link
in a new window, not the mainframe. If I use hyperlinks they work,
they open the link in the mainframe. Any ideas why this is.
Another quick question, Has anyone had problems running under
rosetta or at all. When I'm in the "Insert Flash Button" screen
when clicking on the target drop down menu, the program gets stuck
and won't let me leave the "Insert Flash Button" screen. this has
happened twice only.Best practice methods suggest a) that you only use frames
when you have a
need to use them, and b) that you not use Flash for
navigation unless you
cannot accomplish your purpose with other methods, and unless
you also
provide plain-HTML redundant navigation.
Frames extract a penalty on you as the developer, and on your
site visitor,
that neither of you may be interested in paying. That being
the case, it is
incumbent on you as the developer to make a considered
decision to use them,
not just because they seemed easier. To find out about the
many problems
that come with deciding to use frames, go here -
http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php
http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/frames/
Using Flash for navigation without redundant navigation
methods eliminates
the use of your pages for the following classes of visitors -
1. Those who do not have the Flash plugin installed (and
there are some)
2. Those who use a screen assistive device for surfing
3. Search engine spiders - meaning that your site will not be
ranked
In addition, you create a maintenance problem for yourself if
your linked
file ever gets renamed or moved. Again "it seemed simpler" is
not a good
reason to use Flash navigation.
All of these considerations dramatically affect your
questions below. I
will not address them until we hear further from you.

Flash Button Navigation Issues

Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths?Movie1 and Movie2 should have a name in (Properties -
Instance name).
Assuming that button on Movie1 is on the movie, not inside
the movie, that both movies are on the same timeline, and that you
want to go to Movie2 frame 5, for example.
Button on Movie1
on(release){
_root.Movie2.gotoAndStop(5);
Hope this helps. -
When I first built www.tutsheaven.com, I used Dreamweaver and
Flash buttons. Everything has worked fine until IE7 came out. Now,
you need to double click on the buttons to navigate to the next
page. Is there a fix for this problem, or do I need to change all
of the buttons on this and some other sites?

GetURL isn't working when flash button is embedded into HTML
I'm making a basic HTML site with flash buttons that direct to hyperlinks.
I've made a simple flash button with the code on the button actions as:
on (release) {
getURL("http://www.google.com","_blank");
The button works great when I export it in Flash.
When i embed into the HTML using dreamweaver and preview/upload the site.... the button is there but when clicked it doesn't direct to the hyperlink.
ANy ideas? Thanks. Brendan.Use Flash to generate an html page and test that on the server. If that works, then replace whatever Dreamweaver did with the Flash-made embedding code. Beyond that, a link to the file on the server could shed some light.

I created my template in Dreamweaver and 9 other pages from
the template. Now I inserted flash buttons in the original template
and linked them to all other pages. Buttons work in the original
template but not in any of other pages, even though I updated the
pages with all the changes. What am I doing wrong??? I am losing my
mind here.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!Flash buttons don't work in any real sense of the word,
anyhow. Why are you
using them?
If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will

It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
This problem is due to the fact that you are placing the
buttons into a
Template file. In this case, and assuming you want to inherit
all the
problems, make the links to the buttons ROOT RELATIVE.
