Flash causes very high CPU load (including high Xorg load)

Hello everybody,
this is my first message. I'm an Arch user since a few months, and I'm pretty sure this is the distribution I'll stick to - I pratically love everything about it, especially its simpleness. It's the first Linux that doesn't scare me away with tons of configuration files scattered around dozens of different locations. I've already gotten quite a number of things fixed by myself without even looking at the forum or wiki.
Well, it seems most of these statements can be found in most first forum posts, so I'll stop to bore you...
The problem: Playing flash videos or animations causes incredible processor load: Even youtube takes a whole CPU core (or even a little more), top shows around 80% for Xorg and around 20-30% for Firefox (a little less with Opera). I'm on Arch64 with XFCE, Athlon X2 4600+, NVidia 8200 chipset (which has severe driver problems anyway; I'm using the latest NVidia beta driver). I'd try the open source nvidia driver, but (it seems that) there's no support for my chipset yet.
Currently I'm using Adobe's Flash64 alpha, before that I used various versions fo the nspluginwrapper. 32-bit Flash also caused high CPU load, but it wasn't that much and it may have been related to nspluginwrapper rather than anything else; however I have got the impression that things became even worse with the switch to the x64 alpha (performance-wise; on the other hand, it at least loads faster and doesn't crash anymore). Like said before, youtube takes one core, but it mostly works ok then, but videos with higher resolutions that youtube's are practically impossible to watch (except when there is very little movement in the film). Neither Flash hardware acceleration on nor off makes any difference.
I've already read half of the web, searched in forums, wikis, etc., but didn't find anybody with the same problem. When Flash64 was released and people were reporting good improvements, I was hoping it would be the same for me...
What I'm looking for is suggestions of things to try... I'm out of ideas what to try and where to look. It just seems strange that I seem to have problems that others don't...

High CPU Usage with Flash Player 11

I am not sure what the problem is but ever since I had those issues I went back to flash archive and installed a previous version that did not come with the flash plug in and I never had any problem with it since I am currently using the Adobe flash version 10 plug in with an adobe flash player active X. and I find out it was the new flash plug in that is the issue it suck all your ram. If you get some people who is having the same issues where flash player is duplicating and eating all their ram then ask them to try the version 10 plug in with the flash 11 active x it will work fine. I tried to run the version 10 flash as a complete set but some dynamic site that plays videos require a later version of flash active x to work and will be asking for an update however by keeping the flash 10 plug in there won't be any other issues. Adobe need to find out what is wrong with the new flash plug in and run a comparison with the flash 10 plug in. I hope this will help some user to get over the issues that made my online experience a nightmare for a while too.

High CPU on router

I have got an issue with one of my routers having high CPU. Could someone please guide me in troubleshooting high CPU. What I should be checking on the router and what could be the cause of high CPU.

Hi,
There could be many reasons for high CPU. For high CPU on the router it could be process causing the high CPU or traffic (interrupts). Therefore first thing is to check if the CPU is being caused by some process or it is interrupts.
Few checks that you could quickly do on the router.
1. Show proc cpu sorted 5sec | ex 0.00 << This will confirm if there is process involved or interrupt.
2. Show stacks >> Any recent crash happened
3. Show ip traffic >> Any high amount of traffic which you think causing the issues.
4. Check if there is any debug running on the router.
5. Show interface switching >> Check if the how packets are being process.

MACFLAPS seen only on 1 vlan and also has HIGH CPU HULC LED PROCESS

Hi All,
Their is a weird problem we are having with MAC-FLAPS and HIGH CPU uses. The odd think is when we change the VLAN on the port to a different one then the flapping stops but when we turn it back it starts again. I removed the Vlan from a switch (3750) and the CPU usage returned back to normal even though it was only using it for a printer only (was 50%/30% cpu!).
However the problem now exists with TWO 2960 PCS and 1 2960 POE and they have HULC LED PROCESS at 65%/40% plus CPU usage. There are no STP or HSRP issues on that VLAN however I think it's related to that VLAN. I even backdated the IOS version and reloaded but problem still persists.
What else can I do or is the switch gone (memory leak?). I don't to change all 3 switches so how do I know which switch is the cause as the CPU to be High and only caused due to 1 vlan? ALso when we put something on that VLAN sometimes we get MACFLAPS; although if we change the VLAN the MACFLAPS stop. But the Macflaps are intermittent so I really am not sure what the problem is.

Regarding "Hulc led" process - it's a bug; please provide the IOS version you are running.
It's not clear waht issue do you have with MAC flap; could you please provide command/log outputs?

CPU spikes are higher since last month

SInce a last month the CPU spikes are relatively higher than 30% on one of my SQL environment,
Please advise where can i start looking from to get to the bottom of the issue.

I do not totally understand your question, Is your CPU utilization 30 % or did it increased by 30 %. On a busy system, which I look over, CPU utilization is always close to 50-60 % sometimes CPU spikes to 80-85 % as well but at that time complex queries
are running.Anyways I often refer to below article for high CPU utilization

High CPU load with Flash on Mac Leopard

Dear Adobe,
I am always running the latest version of the Flash plugin on my Macbook. Ever since even with the simplest Flash movies running in a browser (no matter whether Safari, Firefox, Camino, Opera, ...) the CPU load jumps oh so high the fans will spin at full speed and the CPU starts to create subtropic temperatures. Years ago I was running a Windows PC where the CPU load wasn't even close to such high CPU loads. Oh so many Apple users would very very much appreciate Flash Player being at least close to as efficient as the Windows version.

Adobe need to realize that once their great product with a lot of penetration into the web ad + ria market is starting loose its ground as they simply can't address ongoing issue on their poor flash plug-in performance other than on windows platform. There are a lot of flash enthusiast out there but this poor support from the Adobe doesn't help this much further. One of the reasons why other software vendors pushing for more open standard RIA platforms other than Flash based...
Only suggestion that I have with Adobe is that if you can not get it right then, it may help to open up flash player source to the community. I am pretty sure that there are a lot of developers out there who can help out to drive better code base for the player and in turn make flash more adopted by non non ms windows user base. At the moment, I have installed "Click2Flash" and "FlashBlock" to save majority of CPU cycle on my MacBook Pro. Imagine the impact on this for future Adobe product. All online ad will slowly move away from flash based and in turn loosing entire market share it has successfully built over the years... Well must note that MS isn't much better either... MS RDP client is permanently turned off from my system, now I'm using CoRD instead..
I sincerely hope to see some major performance improvements in near future.

Browser's javascript engine causing high CPU load and lost swipe events

I'm having performance issues on some websites. I think that my the javascript engine in the Playbook's javascript engine is causing high CPU usage, which means the device misses swipe gestures.

Once the page is loaded swipe to scroll up and down. On my device (and my friend's) it is incredibly slow. Sometimes it refuses to register any swipe events.
Now turn off javascript and reload the page. Swipe to scroll up and down. Smooth as silk!

I'm having the same problem on a number of websites with my 32gb Playbook. On the same sites that I notice slow, sometimes barely responsive swipes for scrolling my wife's iPad 2 handles them with ease. Disabling javascript fixes the problem however a lot of websites including gmail requires javascript to be enabled on your browser to load. I notice the problem quite a bit when using webmail to check my gmail account which is rather frustrating because it is my only option until PB gets a native email client. My PB is running software 1.0.8.4295, but the problem was also occurring when it was running 1.0.7.

VI causes high CPU load after several days of running

I have a strange problem. I have craeted a test bench control VI and it runs on five PCs, controling five test benches. All PCs have almost the same hardware, same motherboard, same CPU, etc.
Normaly the CPU load is around 50% when I run the VI, but at one PC the CPU load climbs up to 85% after several days (maybe one week) of continuous running and the PC is almost tied up - the VI execution becomes very slow (10 times slower) and the mouse only moves very slowly.
First I thought that the PC has a problem but the problem dissapears as soon as I stop and restart the VI!
I don't even have to terminate LabVIEW - only my VI and then everything is okay again.
The problem does not seem to occur at the other four PCs, but I can not tell for sure.
The task manager says only LabVIEW causes the CPU load - swap file utilisation is little.
Is there a way to analyze what causes the high CPU load?
I Use LabVIEW 7.1 professional
Operating System: Win XP (SP 2 or 3 I don't remember)
P.S. I have no loops without wait-functions.

Do all PCs have the same amount of RAM?
What is the memory use over time as seen by the windows taks manager. Does it increase gradually?
An increase in resource usage if often cause by sloppy programming.
Do you grow arrays forever or constantly resize arrays in memory? (built array, insert into array, delete from array)
Do you often create new references and never close them?
What does the program actually do? In my opinion, a constant 50% CPU load seems too high for my taste. It means it would not even be able to keep up on slightly older hardware.

High CPU load after firefox 18.0 update, causing periodical hang

Hi, I am basically getting crazy here after the update to firefox 18.0 yesterday.
Firefox periodically causes very high CPU load, which makes it impossible to use.

The problem does not occur immediately after restart, but you can already see the spikes of CPU load in the taskmanager with a peak of ~4%. After a couple of minutes this will go up to almost 50% utilizing a whole core and causing the hangs.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Flash player mac - high cpu load

why does flash player produce such a high cpu load under Mac OS X? I have a MacBook 2,1 w/ an Intel Core 2 Duo cpu. When I watch a tiny youtube movie in any browser, the fan gets really loud, and activity monitor shows 50% cpu load.

Hi ... I use admin account only to install new software or games ... for all other uses I log in as an ordinary account
But even when logged in with admin account the same prb persists ... cause of this flash player prb I have even stopped playing games on FB & Zynga ...
For this flash player problem I even took it to acer service center and since I have extended service warranty the engineers there ran acomplete check on ram, hdd, graphic card and they also did a complete fresh install of win 7 home premium 64 bit edition. They even completely serviced it, cleaned it and applied new thermal paste ... but even they were baffled that my system can stand up to high intensity graphic games running from HDD or DVD rom or USB pen drive but if I try to run graphic flash player games for long ie castleville or watch a long movie on you tube then flash player can single handedly cause CPU usage to be constantly high leading to system getting heated up.
Guess will just have to be content without flash ... but some sites require flash player to be enabled and therein lies the problem

I think xml schema is created already...and its progressing as you stated above. Please correct if i am wrong.
I found all these sql from AWR report and all of these are very high resource consuming queries.
And i am really sorry if i am irritating you by asking all stupid questions related to xml.

I have some piano that I wanted to loop. I had no problem using the convert track to sampler instrument. My question is about CPU performance. Which will cause a higher cpu load, the sampler instrument or the original audio tracks?

Ableton.com recommends disabling Energy Saver, fullscreen mode, and Exposé. I would recommend putting the 1Gb of RAM, you will find a better result. I suggest going to the Ableton.com website and looking for more troubleshooting issues.

Xorg causes extrem high cpu load

from time to time xorg causes a extrem high cpu load on my system.

High load and high CPU caused by perl process

Using: Oracle 10.2.0.1.0
OS: Red Hat ES 4
Since this morning I have high load on one of my prod database server, this server has 3 databases of similar size.
High load is caused by perl process, one process has been running for over 75 min’s. process info

Any idea why this is running and cuasing this issue now (for last 8 months, I had not simlar perl issue), can I stop it without kill –9, maybe with emctl stop dbconsole.

You say this is a core router, but as people use this terms to mean different things, are there any directly connected hosts? If there are one thing to check for is hosts sending multicast traffic with TTL=1. If you run the command show ip traffic | in bad hop and look at the rate the "bad hop count" is increasing. If I had a £ for every time I've seen that problem.... I couldn't retire just yet, but at least I could go buy myself a beer or two.
If you're seeing the hop count increasing at a rapid rate there are a couple of options:
Take a read of Troubleshooting high CPU on a 6500 with sup720 starting from the section Tools used to determine the source of the traffic and identify the hosts sending multicast with TTL=1.
If the Catalyst 6500 use PFC 3B add the command mls rate-limit all ttl-failure 100 10 to drop the multicast traffic in hardware.
The first option will take you longer, but at least you identify the cause and can advise the application owner why they should change their applications behaviour.
