Flash Chart Bar Colors

We just came up on 3.0.1 from version 2.
Now I want to implement Flash charts and everything is working fine with the exception of the colors on bar charts. My customer wants colors different from the default.
How can I change the colors of the bars on the charts?
Bob

Bob,
Under the Chart Attributes, select Custom Color on Color Scheme and enter your desired color or select one via the Flashlight.

• Controlling Chart Bar Colors

Hello, I'm just beginning to add charts to my application and I'm finding it difficult to control Chart bar color dynamically. I would like Red, Yellow, Green bars based on limits on the Bar value. Example Values under 5 may be Green, 5 - 9 Yellow, and over 10 Red. The HTML chart appears to either be Random or one Specifc color, and the SVG Chart appears to only be a sinlge color. Both are chosen on the attribute screen of the chart.
Anyone done Dynamic Chart Bar coloring? - Thanks

Hi, and welcome!
Have a look at: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=44602:2]
To get this on a Flash Chart, I have:
1 - Set the chart type to: Stacked 2D Column
2 - Set the Color Scheme setting to: Custom
3 - Set the Custom Colors to: red,yellow,green
4 - Created THREE series (with a maximum of 15 rows each) with the following SQL statements:
Series 1:
SELECT NULL LINK, ENAME LABEL, CASE WHEN SAL < 1000 THEN SAL ELSE 0 END VALUE FROM EMP WHERE SAL IS NOT NULL ORDER BY ENAME
Series 2:
SELECT NULL LINK, ENAME LABEL, CASE WHEN SAL BETWEEN 1000 AND 2000 THEN SAL ELSE 0 END VALUE FROM EMP WHERE SAL IS NOT NULL ORDER BY ENAME
Series 3:
SELECT NULL LINK, ENAME LABEL, CASE WHEN SAL > 2000 THEN SAL ELSE 0 END VALUE FROM EMP WHERE SAL IS NOT NULL ORDER BY ENAME
As long as my SQL is correct and the SAL value ranges don't overlap, each ENAME entry will appear in one, and only one, series - for the other two series, the value will be reset to 0, so nothing is shown.

• CR for VS 2005 - Bar Chart - Bar colors

Hi,
I'm creating a report in Visual Studio 2005 and have a bar chart in it. I've searched the forums but can't seem to find out how to change the colors of the Series bars.
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Ron

Apparently, the version of CR that ships with Visual Studio doesn't allow much in the way of customization. I have since upgraded to CR 2008 and can now change the bar colors.

• Flash Chart Bar Width

Is there a way to limit the width of the bars on a flash bar chart?
I've found that if I have but one bar on the chart it fills the entire chart area.
Doesn't look so good.
Bob

Hello,
I did a blog post about that: http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/06/specify-same-width-of-column-chart-in.html
The only way I can think of doing it, is to calculate the number of bars and adjust some parameters depending that. You do that by using Custom XML. I already tried it to get dynamic scaling and that worked. But I didn't have the time yet to do the bar width example, but the principle should be the same.

• URGENT!!VALUES DISPLAY IN CHART BARS & COLOR THEMES !!

hi
I want the chart to be displayed with the their values but u can see the values only by rolling over each bars.
Could anyone help me out what are the solutions to be carried out???Is there any options in the EP itself to enter the values displayed automatically when execting it????
what about the color themes to be changed for each bars as per user requirement in EP???
THNX
RAJ.

hi Raj,
Few options:
1. if you are using query designer to create query and displaying it in the web analyser and choose graph there, you cant really change the colors of the graphs.
In that case you have to create the web template in the WAD for the same query in BI and make color selections in the graph control in WAD.
2.If you dont want to use WAD, you can use visual composer and try out various options of its chart control. you also have animations possible in visual composer. VC is totally in EP and you dont have to do much on BI except for the query creation.
hope it helps..

• Drill Down Flash Charts dont refresh in IE

Hi Friends,
I am facing a typical issue when I have drill down charts in IE.
To mimic the scenario that I am facing in my project I have created a sample project in my workspace ntekupal with login guest/apex_demo. Run the application project Emp Dept Dashboard.
Note : Make sure you use IE to reproduce this issue
Issue Reproduction :
1) Select 'Accounting' department from the Departments bar chart by double clicking it(this is one more issue in IE which really annoys me).
2) Navigate to Employees chart and observe that the Deptno text box shows '10' with the list of employees in the bar chart for Deptno - 10.
3) Go back to previous page using breadcrumbs.
4) Select 'Research' and it would again put you back to Employees page showing employee list for Deptno - 20.
5) Now repeat step-3 and select again 'Accounting'
6) Observe that the employees shown are not for Accounting Department. It is still showing for Research but the deptno text box would show the value 10(which is correct).
7) Refresh the page then the employee bar chart would display the actual employees in Research deptmnt.
Now run the same application in Mozilla and it works perfect.
I know this could be some caching issue in IE but not sure how to fix this.
It really freaks me out and my users do not wan to use Mozilla. In my project I am using a bunch of flash charts(bar & pie).
I appreciate if I can get some of your precious inputs on this situation.
Thanks,
Raj.

I have to, respectfully, take the opposite point of view on this topic. It is very much the applications responsibility to communicate to the browser that the page is dynamic. There are even meta tags specifically for this purpose.
That said, I concur to the true underlying concern of the above two posts that you would not want a page updating any IE global settings.
There are commonly two solutions used to solve page caching issues:
1) There are meta tags shared disparately by certain browsers to disable cacheing, set expiration dates, and similar activities. Each browser honors the settings differently, however, you can safely "stack" several versions together and there are web-sites that suggest the appropriate combination to hit the major browsers.
The tags to look for are CACHE-CONTROL, EXPIRES, REVISIT, and possibly others. Look them up under each browsers developer documentation as some variation exists in usage. The latter two are for search engines, but several of the browsers will use them in normal page hits.
That said, IE inconsistently honors these tags, even from version to version, so,
2) The end-all hack solution is to include a random value in the URL to create a unique URL on each attempt to access the page. Normally this can be achieved through a page or application item that is update on every page view and is passed on the URL line.
This solution is also commonly used because Proxy's may not honor the tag and so will continue to re-send the proxy version every time the browser requeries.
Whether this is possible in the Chart drill down I do not know as I haven't used this feature yet, but these are the two solutions you will find browsing the web against page caching.
I have invariably always had to resort to (2) to get absolutely real time data, unless I am in a corporate environment that used a standard and stable version of the browser.
Under no circumstances would I prefer to set the IE's always retrieve latest page setting, as this affects every page that IE requests.
Hope this is helpful,
Barney

• How to customize Flash Chart color scheme (Look 1 etc..)

Hi,
Is their any way I can customize the Flash Chart color schemes (Look 1, Look 2). I know there's a "Custom" option but I'd like to define what Look 1 is so that I don't need to use custom values for each chart.
Thank you,
Martin
[http://apex-smb.blogspot.com/]

Thank you Dimitri
What you suggest is what I am currently doing.
But let's say I have to change the colors in all my graphs, I would have to go through all of them and change the "Custom Colors".
I was looking for something similar to a template where I would only have to change the color definition in one place...

• Vary Chart Bar Graphs Color

Hello folks!
I am creating an Excel chart using Excel Interop (please find below code and output for the code given below). I need to vary the colors of same-series chart bar graphs (The graphs only now in orange). This line of code doesn't do the trick:
series1.Interior.ColorIndex = XlColorIndex.xlColorIndexAutomatic;
How can I achieve my goal? Any advice will be appreciated!
Excel.ChartObjects xlCharts = (Excel.ChartObjects)_sheet.ChartObjects(Type.Missing);
Excel.ChartObject myChart = (Excel.ChartObject)xlCharts.Add(236, 241, 224, 268);
Excel.Chart chartPage = myChart.Chart;
chartPage.HasLegend = false;
chartPage.ChartType = Excel.XlChartType.xlColumnClustered;
chartPage.ChartStyle = 4;
Excel.SeriesCollection seriesCollection = chartPage.SeriesCollection();
Excel.Series series1 = seriesCollection.NewSeries();
series1.Name = "My Title";
series1.XValues = xValues;
series1.Values = yValues;
series1.Interior.ColorIndex = XlColorIndex.xlColorIndexAutomatic;
Excel.Axis axis = (Excel.Axis)chartPage.Axes(
Excel.XlAxisType.xlValue,
Excel.XlAxisGroup.xlPrimary);
axis.HasTitle = true;
axis.AxisTitle.Text = "My Chart";
series1.ApplyDataLabels(
Excel.XlDataLabelsType.xlDataLabelsShowLabel,
true, true, true, false, false, true, true,
true, true);

Hi hokushin,
The series1.Interior.ColorIndex property can only set the color for the whole series. If you want to vary the color of the bar graphs in the same series, one way is to vary the color by the Point. For example:
int pointsCount = series1.Points().Count;
for (int i = 1; i <= pointsCount; i++)
series1.Points(i).Interior.Color = Color.FromArgb(0, 30*i, 0);
You can set the color as you want for every Point of the series, the series1.Points([point number]) method will return the whole Points collection or just one Point of them.

• Why Flash chart is showing only 15 bars

Hi,
I have created a flash chart, a 2d column chart, but it is showing only 15 columns, I have checked that query is returning more that 20 rows.
When I created a Pie chart with the same query, it too showing 15 pieces with one extra piece 'Other' by calculating other remaining rows.
Can anybody tell, why bar and pie chart are not showing all the rows?
Thanks
-Smith

Hi Ben,
Your tip really helped me to fix a chart problem. I have a stacked bar chart and there were more than 25 columns. Due to the limitation, the chart was showing incorrectly with wrong values. After increasing the limit, it displays correctly now.
Thanks a lot

• Flash Chart 2d line issue

I am using a flash chart - 2d line.
The purpose of the chart is to show the percentage completed by the specified date. The percentage does not go up all the time. Some times it can go down also. We are capturing the comments if the percentage goes down.
The following is the query. When there is only one entry, the line goes across on the top of the bar chart. It does not reflect what I wanted. I wanted the chart to start at 0 and progress towards 100%
SELECT NULL LINK, date, Percentage FROM tableA where id=:id ORDER BY 2
Thanks in advance

Thank you Dimitri,
I tried specifying the colors myself, but that didn't helped.
What do you mean by putting the example online ... where?
In fact to see this bug is very simple: it is enough to create a page with a standard 2dPie Flash Chart (with legend), and add a chart series with following source (series query):
select null, rownum , mod(rownum,2) from all_objects
where rownum<10
Setting the Chart type to 2d pie or doughnut will have the mentioned problems, while the 3d pie not.
For the moment we don't want to buy AnyChart 5.
Regards,
Boris

• Apex flash charts with date values on the x axis

I am playing around in Apex 4 using flash charts and having a bit of troubles playing with dates on the x axis on a 2d line chart.
What I am trying to achive is a values plotted across the chart and the date/time values are not a constent (ie not continually say 1 hour apart) hence why I want to use a datatype of date.
In the SQL below:
select null as link, sysdate -2 as value, 0 as label from dual
union
select null , sysdate -2+1/24 , 1 from dual
union
select null , sysdate -2+2/24 , 2 from dual
union
select null , sysdate -2+5/48, 1 from dual
union
select null , sysdate -2+3/24, 0 from dual;I get a 2D Line chart but each date/time value is equally space apart (ie sysdate -2, sysdate -2+1/24, sysdate -2+2/24 and sysdate -2+3/24 should be 1 unit apart and sysdate -2+5/48 should be half way between sysdate -2+2/24 and sysdate -2+3/24).
I think I have to use custom xml. Using http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/xmlReference/index.html and http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/users-guide/DateTime-Axes.html I edited the XML and changed:

Can anyone see what I am doing wrong or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

This will be a little bit lengthy answer, but I guess it will be easier to understand what I meant to say.
I created a table that contains values you used as a data source (just to make my life easier):
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
Session altered.
SQL> select * from test;
VALUE                    LABEL
12.10.2010 09:03:45          0
12.10.2010 10:03:45          1
12.10.2010 11:03:45          2
12.10.2010 11:33:45          1
12.10.2010 12:03:45          0
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'hh24:mi';
Session altered.From now on, we'll see only hours and minutes.
Step 1: current and previous values - difference in number of MINUTES
SQL> select t.value,
2         lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
3         (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
4  from test t;
VALUE PREVI MINUTES_DIFF
09:03
10:03 09:03           60
11:03 10:03           60
11:33 11:03           30
12:03 11:33           30Step 2: a little bit of calculation:
- TIME_SPAN: how many minutes are there between MIN and MAX date?
- MIN_DIFF: what is the minimum time difference (minutes)?
- SLICES: how many time slices do we want on the x-axis?
SQL> select
2    min(x.value) min_val,
3    max(x.value) max_val,
4    min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
5    (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
6    (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
7  from (select t.value,
8               lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
9               (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
10        from test t
11       ) x;
MIN_V MAX_V   MIN_DIFF  TIME_SPAN     SLICES
09:03 12:03         30        180          6There's 180 minutes between 09:03 and 12:03; minimum time difference in our TEST table is 30 minutes, so - we want to have 6 time slices on the x-axis (180 / 30).
Step 3: row generator technique: let's create time values that are missing:
SQL> select y.min_val + (level - 1) * y.min_diff / (24 * 60) val
2  from (select
3          min(x.value) min_val,
4          max(x.value) max_val,
5          min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
6          (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
7          (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
8        from (select t.value,
9                     lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
10                     (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
11              from test t
12             ) x
13       ) y
14  connect by level <= y.slices + 1;
VAL
09:03
09:33
10:03
10:33
11:03
11:33
12:03
7 rows selected.OK, now we have 30 minutes between every time value.
Step 4: join newly generated time values with the original table. Use OUTER JOIN; missing labels will be 0 (zero):
SQL> select
2    null link,
3    to_char(z.val, 'hh24:mi') new_value,
4    nvl(t1.label, 0) new_label
5  from (select y.min_val + (level - 1) * y.min_diff / (24 * 60) val
6        from (select
7                min(x.value) min_val,
8                max(x.value) max_val,
9                min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
10                (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
11                (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
12              from (select t.value,
13                           lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
14                           (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
15                    from test t
16                   ) x
17             ) y
18        connect by level <= y.slices + 1
19       ) z,
20       test t1
21  where t1.value (+) = z.val
22  order by z.val;
L NEW_V  NEW_LABEL
09:03          0
09:33          0
10:03          1
10:33          0
11:03          2
11:33          1
12:03          0
7 rows selected.Cool, so we have them all. Now, go to Apex and create a chart using a query from step #4.
I tested it - it displays something which means that it should work for you too (unfortunately, this forum doesn't accept attachments so that you could see it). Now, I can't tell whether that's what you need or not, but - if the idea itself is OK, it can be adjusted (I hope so).

• Flash chart and multiple Y-Axis

Hi,
I have to create a flash chart with a bar and a line graphic in 1 graphic output
The left Y-axis should show the values of the bar (i.e. 0 - 20.000) and the right Y-axis should show the percetage value of the line graphic (0 - 100).
How can I scale the different values and order it th left or right like EXCEL (APEX 4.1)
Please help me
Regards,
Siegwin

Hi Siegwin,
thanks for providing access to your workspace. The reason that that second line is not behaving as you expect is because that series of the chart is not associated with the extra Y-Axis. As I mentioned in my previous posting, the extra Y-axis only gets associated with the second series of your chart. In your case, you're actually looking to associate series 2 and 4 with the extra Y-axis. In order to achieve that behaviour you could do one of the following:
*1*. Hard-code the data in your custom XML region, ensuring you update the XML tags for the 4th series to look as follows:
<series name="BX old failurre" type="Line" color="0xDBDC25" y_axis="extra_y_axis_1">instead of how it is currently generated for your chart on Page 1:
<series name="BX old failurre" type="Line" color="0xDBDC25" >
NOTE: the extra Y-axis will only be associated with the series where the attribute y_axis="extra_y_axis_1" is included.
This option is not ideal, because you are hard-coding data in the chart, which won't be updated to reflect any changes to the underlying data.
*2*. Split your chart out in to two separate charts instead of attempting to represent them on one, as done on Page 2 of your application. NOTE: the first chart is using some custom XML to set the maximum value of the extra series to 100.
*3*. Generate your own <data> tags, to ensure that the extra Y-axis is associated with your selected series. This would require doing something similar to the Thresholds example here: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:35 - where you are basically overriding the #DATA# substitution string for your chart and replacing it with your own <data> tags.
In a future release, we'll look at exposing options on the Chart Attributes page to allow for the setting of attributes specifically for the extra Y-Axis, and also allow for the specification of which series the extra Y-axis should be associated with. In the meantime, I think Option 2 above is your easiest option.

Hilary

• Tip: Flash Chart without values displayed

Hi people,
I have no question but a Tip.
Some weeks ago I was lokking for a possibility to get a Stacked Bar Flash Chart.
At first I have choosen the 2D-Chart. But in this Chart the values are always be displayed and by using the XML-settings and the CSS-Settings it wasn't possible to hide the displayed values. The values are always displaed in a way like this: value 2.123243. In every bar and in every different area of the bars.
So I was playing around some days to hide the values and I was almost was getting mad and my boß was getzting angry about it...
But the next day I tried the 3D-Charts to see what will happen... and that's it! The Charts will be displayed in exactly that wayI need.
So my Tip: If you need nice Charts good to use, please take the 3D-Charts. Thats works.
And if you want to see whats going on with Flash Charts in APEX 4.0 take a look an [http://www.anychart.com]
Thats really nice! I'm really impatiently waiting for it!!!!
Have a nice eve!
René
P.S.: Thanx for all Bernhard and Maik! :D

This is not a question! :-)

I have someone that was able to remove the value from showing on the 2d stacked bar graphs but they don't remember how they did it. Ever since they they found out they just copy the same graph. I tried the same in another schema and could not get the same result. I compared the xml, the chart template and could not find out how they hid the values. I don't like the 3d as the colors look much nicer to 2d. any suggestions.

• Flash chart and names

Hello everybody,
I'm using an stacked 2D colum flash chart in my application in order to show all errors occuring through a week. Everything works fine, the data is showing up, but there's still one little problem:
The bars of the chart are shown with their names and values on them. But I want to hide this information and just show the bars.
If I use a stacked 3D column, the names aren't displayed. I guessed, that I could fix this, by using a custom XML and change some settings, but I can't figure out, which is the correct one.
Here's the XML, I use, it's the standard presented to my by Apex. I'm using Apex version 3.1.1.00.09, with the standard anychart, delievered with it. And I can't update it with the anychart integration kit...

Hi Dird,
sorry for my late response, but my lovely company denies the access to image hosting sites. So I had to do this at home during the weekend and there I couldn't have a look once more at my app, so it took until today :-)
I've seen, that you're not using anychart in the "standard" version that comes along with Apex, right? So it's good to know, that my XML works fine with a newer version, but I'ver got to use the version, deployed with the Apex package.
So, is there any chance, to get rid of the names on the bars with the standard version? Or do I have to wait for the next Apex version, or buy me the new anychart license?! Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Holger
