Flash CheckBox in Flex.
I am using a framework in my Flex project that is Sprite based so I can't use the Flex components inside of base Sprite object. So I want to use the Flash Checkbox inside of the Sprite, but trying to import fl.controls.Checkbox isn't working, as Flex doesn't like the "fl." part.
Anyone have any suggestions?
TIA, J
Maybe I am missing something, but I have a Sprite based app in Flex so what that means is I am using an AS3 framework/library that uses Sprites for everything. This means that I cannot put MX or Spark content inside the Sprites because they are to far UP the hiearchy (No FlexSprite or UIComponent).
That is why having the mx.controls and fl.controls matter, unless I am wrong in the above statements?
My point is I have and am using the following and have been given access to them via Adobe and the minute I open the framework to use it.
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.TimerEvent;
import flash.geom.Point;
import flash.text.engine.*;
import flash.utils.Timer;
So why not include fl. content like fl.content as well. Sure there would be two CheckBoxes fl.controls.checkbox and mx.controls.checkbox or rather spark.components.checkbox, but give me access to them for case such as this one. Or at least make it a checkbox or setting that I can switch on.
Am I way off base here?
Here is the library I am using:
https://graphics.stanford.edu/wikis/cs448b-09-fall/Software_Tutorial_-_Flash/Flare
It says it has SWC available but its actually a ZIP file. I think a SWC is nothing more than type of ZIP so I tried to change the name to .SWC but that didn't work.

Is this a bug in Flash Player or Flex?
Compile and run this code (it is generated when you select New MXML Application) with FlashBuilder4.5:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
<fx:Declarations>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
</s:Application>
If you are using IE, you will see a blue player control panel. But there should be nothing displayed because there is no
visual components in the code above.
If you are using FireFox, there is nothing displayed.
Same behaves for mx:Application.
I think it is a bug with Flash Player or Flex. How can Flex behave differently with different browsers?This is what I see in IE 9.0.8112.16421, but not in FF.

Too small window size in standalone flash player in FLEX
Hello,
I have unchecked the option "generate html wrapper file" so I
don't have to bother about closing the browser tab each time I make
a small change to the code and rerun the application.
This works fine as the standalone flash player closes when I
terminate the application from Flex. However, the standalone flash
player always starts in a fixed window size smaller than my
application size so that I cannot see the whole application. So I
have to enlarge the window size of the standalone flash player each
time which is annoying!
Is there a better solution?
Maybe get Flex to close the browser tab after I terminate the
application. I still prefer to use the standalone flash player
during development as my application doesn't depend on the browser
though.Adobe Newsbot hopes that the following resources helps you.

Import Flash components into Flex
Hy,
I'm trying to create an AIR application. Until now I've watched and read a lot of tutorials but none had the answer I was looking for. So I have a few animations made in Flash as MovieClip symbols. They should react depending on the user's intentions. How can I import those symbols and control them with "gotoAnd" commands (i know how to use the AS in Flex but not how to import animations)? I'm starting to think Flex can't do this because I only found about skins or images or things not even close to what I want. If you know a way I would really apreciate a nice tutorial or a code sample.
Many thanks !I think that what you're looking for is the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3.
By installing this kit you are able to export any movie clip from flash as a flex component.
Then, you have full access to the objects inside the component by writing code in your Flex application.

Does [Embed(source="assetname")] work in Flash or just Flex?
Does [Embed(source="assetname")] work in Flash or just Flex?
Thanks!Thanks for the link. But that sucks. When I import a mp3 file into the flash library there is a slight delay when it loops. But if I bring in a AIFF file into the library and let Flash encode it then there is no delay. I was hoping to not have to have Flash encode my music loops every time I test my game. Many game sites don't want external assets, everything has to be in one swf. I could load external swfs with linked music loops, but like I said, most game sites want everything in one swf. I wish Adobe would either fix this very old loop bug or allow the flash IDE to use Embed : (

How to display rich content with URL in adobe flash builder and flex for mobile apps?
Hi,
In Apple IOS SDK, I used the WebView control to display the rich text with Bullets, different font style, images within the text and the URLs also within the text as HTML content.
Clicking on the URLs automatically opens the respective webpage in Safari.
In Adobe Flash Builder, I don't see any control straight away equivalent to Apple WebView control.
How to implement the same using adobe and flex?Thanks for your reply, its nice to know its not just me.
the error i got when submitting to the App store where due to native support for IPHONE 5 which is now mandatory (from May 1st), looking around the internet the common soloution seemed to be upgrading to Air 3.7.
The strange erorrs on 3.7 revolve around compiling a standard / production build (fast build works fine)
the error is always the same (snippet shown below):
Error occurred while packaging the application:
Undefined symbols for architecture armv7:
"__ZN7avmplus8Debugger9debugLineEi", referenced from:
__ZN7avmplus9MethodEnv9debugExitEPNS_13CallStackNodeE in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
__ZN7avmplus11BaseExecMgr22debugEnterExitWrapperNEPNS_9MethodEnvEiPj in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
I have completly failed to work out why, but my gut feeling is its something to do with how the mac is compiling the code in standard build and unable to find a library it needs.

Loading purchased swf into Flash Builder 4 Flex app
I have purchased a Flash "fundraising thermometer" from an online Flash components site. It takes input from an xml file and displays a thermometer with the goal at the top and the current amount raised indicated. It came with the following files:
thermometer.swf
thermometer01.fla
thermometer01.html (A sample that works.)
xml/thermometer.xml (The source file: goal amount, current amount, mark interval, etc.)
caurina/transitions (Mostly .as files.)
Since the test html (thermometer01.html) works fine, I thought this would be a no-brainer.
I first unzipped the files into a "thermometer" folder in my current project. I then went into Flash Builder and created a SWFLoader object as follows:
<mx:SWFLoader
id="myLoader" source="../thermometer/thermometer.swf" complete="initThermometer();" autoLoad="true" scaleContent="false"/>\
private function initThermometer():void {
Alert.show('Thermometer loaded');
The Design view looks fine. I can see the thermometer default image (see below).
When I run the app, I get no errors, just a broken image link in a box (see below). The alert box also never shows up.
I'm new to Flex, so I may be doing something stupid that keeps this from working. I contacted the author of the thermometer widget but he doesn't know anything about Flex.
Any help figuring out how to get this to work in a flex app would be appreciated.You should probably add more event handlers to see what's going on. Especially "ioError". The complete list is below. For coverage, add a handler for each event. You can also use in MXML
complete="initThermometer(event)
and add an argument to your Actionscript method, to find out details about the event.
private function initThermometer(event:Event):void {
Alert.show('Thermometer loaded ' + event.type);}
Events
complete="No default"
httpStatus="No default"
init="No default"
ioError="No default"
open="No default"
progress="No default"
securityError="No default"
unload="No default
General info here:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/mx/controls/SWFLoader.html
I did not test my code suggestions, but it's probably close. -
Can I use Flash classes in Flex?
Hello,
I need to know if all the flash classes can work in Flex,
since some Actionscript which use flash classes works as expected
in flash but NOT in Flex, so I need to understand or know which do
works and which does not?
..and thanks for any response :)
Regards,
Jamalit is possible to import any UIComponent made in FLASH CS3 or
even previous versions into Actionscript and use them. The process
is more complex though.
I'll try to explain:
First make sure that when you created the UIComponent it
actually exists as a class with in the flash movie, this is give it
a LINKAGE NAME.
Second compile this SWF or SWC and put it in the path of your
flex Proyect.
Third use de [EMBED] compiler command to include this class
into your AS class, the way to do it is this:
[Embed (source="/assets/UICOMPONENT.swf")]
[Binddable]
private var UI:Class;
Once you do that you can use the class each time you want:
var tmp:MopvieClip= new UI();
if You don't want to load the hole movie, you can add
elements of it, just read the documentation on the EMBED Command.
One thing I've used though is to clone child element's of the movie
and use them in my class later.
Some tips I've found out:
1.- The object created is a MovieClip whith one Child Element
that's a Loader class.
2.- You have to implement a Listener to make sure the Embed
element is loaded before use it or you'll get an error.
3.- You'll then be able to access all the elements in the
movieclip created with Flash CS 3 or 2.
4.- I've noticed that there are some compiling isues when
using filters in button frames, I've only used the CS2 Actionscript
preview and not CS3 so I don't know if this was solved. -
I want to create a swc file to use it in an other project. I can't use the Flash 4 Library Project to do this, because in a Library Project I
haven't the possibility to use data/services, which I need for my library. After click on "data / services" I get the message "This view is only for Flex-Projects available".
Has anyone a solution for my problem?
Thanks for your help.Connect to PHP in FB4 is used when you have a PHP Class and you want to use that in FB, for example Employee.php and it has a Employee class and various methods in that like create, update, get, delete.
However, if you have exposed your functionality in PHP as a HTTP URL (i.e. it is not a class), then you should be using HTTPService from the data menu.
So if your file is login.php and is accessible as a URL, then using the HTTPService and enter the URL.
Does this help?

I have built an interface in Flash CS3 and now have the need
to port it over to Flex. I am trying to do it with as little
re-build as possible, so I need to port the Flash components over
with it. I exported a SWC with all of the components I am using,
and added it to the Library Path of an AS project.
The build gives me no errors, but I do get a #2007 at
runtime. The error seems to be stemming from a Yahoo ASTRA Flash
component, which was included in the SWC.
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.

at fl.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher()
I have been searching around the net, and the majority of
people are saying that this happens when the skins aren't included
(so you need to set them before the component is added to the
stage). I am using customized programmatic skins, for which the
source files are included in the build, and the styles get set
before the component is added to the stage (I actually replaced the
default ones in the class).
Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I could fix this?
PS - It is an ASTRA TabBar component that is giving me
issues. I know that Flex has a TabBar and TabNavigator, but I can't
find any documentation on how to use these from an AS project (no
MXML). I will simply rebuild using the native Flex controls if
necessary, and if possible, but would prefer to fix the issue as it
currently stands. (I might go back to Flash at some point, and
don't want to tie myself to a particular solution, considering I
can't use Flex components in Flash).
PPS - If you are wondering why I am porting to Flex right
now, especially if I am considering taking it back to Flash in the
future, it is because I have the need to begin building in
FlashPlayer 10 functionality, and the only way you can build to
FP10 right now (as its in beta) is with a nightly build of

Can I import a custom component from Flash 8 into Flex?
'm creating a custom Flash Video Playback component in Flash
8 using AS2. I understand that I cannot import this to Flex as
stated in Livedocs: "You can use SWC files created in Flash 8 only
for skinning, not as components. Until the next version of Flash is
released, you can only use SWC files created in Flex 2 as
components."
But now that Flash 8 supports AS3 with the new Adobe Labs
add-on, if I create the custom component using AS3 in Flash 8, can
I then import it and use it in Flex 2.0.1?
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!I was going through my libraries trying to find the quick test I did when I was dabbling with the kit and I can't find it anywhere at all.
If I recall this was the pdf that I read to get it to work properly with CS3 and Flex 3 I don't know if you have read it already or if it will help, but it is the only thing I know for sure helped with the process.

Embeded Flash movies in Flex app
Hi,
Flex noob with no real Flash experience. I have successfully
loaded a Flash analogue clock swf file into an app I'm
experimenting with in Flex. I used the image tag and is works well.
I would like to also embed a Flash movie which is a news scroller.
This movie calls in an external XML file as it's text source (who's
content I change dynamically with php) and the original movie was
wrapped in some html which passed in some 'param' parameters. Can
anyone explain how Flex handles Flash movies like this?,
many thanks,
MikeI found a solution to my problem so I thought I'd answer my
own question here for the good of others who may experience the
same issue. When using Flex on your local machine (localhost),
security precautions inherent in Flash prevent the movies from
showing up in Flex. Once I tested on the production server the
movies showed up fine. The problem was nothing to do with the
param's being passed in and Flex did not need any of the info from
the html wrapper as far as I can make out,
Hope that saves another newbie from some hair pulling,
cheers,

Hey there,
Is there anyway to migrate existing applications built in Flash to Flex without having to rewrite everything over again? I've heard something about the Flex Component Kit that says it allows you to build Flex components in Flash but that doesn't sound like what I am looking for.
Thanks!If you build a pure as3 project you can migrate it easily. But if you
don't you can embed the compiled flash app within a Flex app using
SWFLoader for instance.
Sincerely,
Michael
