Have to click on flash movie to activate it
I have a flash movie that when loads on a webpage, does not
respond to mouse clicks until the user has clicked anywhere on the
movie at least once. When you mouseover the flash movie in the
browser, a grey border appears around the movie and a tooltip with
the following test appears "Click to activate and use this control"
Is there a way to avoid the initial click before the user can
navigate using the buttons in the flash movie?
Thank you in advance,
Armoplease search forum first - google is also your friend here -
this is front page news on hundreds of
blogs and news sites - just search anywhere for "active
content" - there are large number of
on-going discussions here for the past few weeks - too much
info for use to re-type so searching
will provide you with a wealth of information almost
immediately.
hope this helps.

Need to click to activate Flash...
Does anyone have a work around so you don't have to click the
flash to start. Like on my Captivate I have a click box on the
first screen. You need to click that box to advance to the next
screen, but you need to click it first to 'activate it' then again
to run it. Because I'm linking to several movies each time a new
movie starts you have to click to activate, then click again to
actually get the function to work.
ideas?

I am using Mozilla Firefox and it is now bugging me. After updating it, it is now asking me to always click to activate and use plug-ins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Youtube videosand other plug-ins. I click on activiate all plug-ins but it still asks me to do it each time that I try to use Flash, Adobe Reader, watch a You Tube Video or anything. Why won't Mozilla Firefox automatically actaivate the plug-ins like it used to do. I tried to follow directions on our website for fixing this but it did not work. I am running
Windows XP. Please let me know how to fix this. Thank you.In the past, to protect you from [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-plugins-play-audio-video-games plugins] that have stability or security issues, Firefox could only turn off the problematic plugin. Now Firefox can prevent the plugin from running automatically (which prevents many issues) and then let you choose to run or update the plugin. See [[Why do I have to click to activate plugins?]] for more info.
If you'd like to Disable Firefox's Click-to-Play feature,
# Type ''about:config'' in the address bar and press Enter.
# Press the big button to bypass the warning.
# In the search box, paste ''plugins.click_to_play''
# In the search results, double-click ''plugins.click_to_play'' to set its value to '''false''' -

How to disable "Click to activate this control" in IE
Hi,
When I open a flash component in IE, first of all I need to click on the flash component to activate it. Why it's happening like that? When the mouse is over the flash component, it will show a tool tip "Click to activate this control" and dotted lines around the flash component. Can I know a solution for this. When I searched, I got some javascript code, but they are not working. How can I avoid this problem? I have attached the javascript code with thread. Please make a look on it also.
Regards,
Sreelash.S.Hi,
This issue is avoided in IE6 using the javascript tha i have attached. Like this, is there any javascript available to avoid this in IE6. Actually we are embedding the swf with object tag. At that time there is no problem. There is no issues with ActiveX control. The problem comes when we use the widget.
<script type='text/javascript' language='javascript'>

Problem; "Click to Activate" message
Hi,
I created a map in Flash and it loads great, works great when
you're on a mac (it was created on a mac too). Though the problem
is that when the page is viewed on a PC and you rollover the map
there is a boundry that appears around the map and a text notice
that reads "click to activate and use this control". Once you click
it it goes away and the map interacts fine, but its not good as it
stands. I wonder if it's in the publishing preferences that this
can be resolved. If anyone has ideas please let me know!
Peace for 2007!
joeThat only happens when using Internet Explorer actually, and
it's because of
the lame eolas suit. You can fix by going here:
http://blog.deconcept.com
and an article about it here:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/swfobject.html
I find it best to just always use it as you get version
detection as well as
very easy embedding of your movie.

Dotted box, Click to activate this control
Hey all, I am not positive this is a shockwave problem but
thats my guess. Whenever I put my cursor over a Shockwave or
macromedia thing a dotted box will now appear and i will have to
click on the item to activate it. Its not a problem just really,
really annoying. I am sure its an easy fix but I cant figure it
out. Anyone have an idea??Stubbed Toe wrote:

Click to Activate and Use this Control... WOW... my
upgrade to
Studio 8 has been rendered anemic by the requirements of
"more security" by
Microsoft and others. Now Flash has an error message and you
have to click
the
little sucker to get it to work. Someone dropped the ball BIG
TIME on this
one. Surely there is a fix for this for a non-programmer such
as myself.

Removing the "Click to activate"
I've noticed that on my movies, when in an internet browser
window, you put the cursor over them you have to "click to
activate" them. How do you set up the movie so you don't have to do
this? I know its not my computers settings because other flash
movies on other sites (eg xbox.com) you don't have to click on
there movies.
I know this isnt essential but its somewhat annoying when
passing the cursor over the movie and a border appears round the
movie until u click on it.
Any help?This occurs only with Microsoft Internet Explorer, starting
over a year ago, as a result of a legal dispute with the original
creators of ActiveX controls.
Flash 8 and Dreamweaver 8 issued updates offering new code to
adjust for this. When you encounter a Web site that doesn't have
the new code, that little white dotted line will show up until you
press the space bar (or whatever). It also happens on QuickTime and
other ActiveX controlled plugins.
There are all sorts of articles on the Adobe and Microsoft
Web sites about it.
Some folks will suggest that you used FireFox instead of IE,
but if you're developing content for the world to see, you can't
control what everyone else is using. It's worth learning to
implement the fixes that were introduced in Flash 8 and Dreamweaver
8. The JavaScript code that they use is not much more difficult to
install than the code created by the original publish settings. -
Turning off "Click to activate control" protection feature
I'd like to know how to turn off the "Click to activate
control" protection feature, and possibly have it not running for
everyone else on any of the Flash stuff, since it confuses
people.No .. the whole point is that the changed forced upon MS so
as not to
violate the EOLAS patent means that an interactive activex
control cannot
come solely from the HTML file (that's what the patent
covers) .. so that's
why some external JavaScript is required. It's nasty, but
blame EOLAS.

How to prevent people asking how to prevent "click to activate and use this control"
When I visit the fourms, I keep seeing these questions about
how to disable
"click to activate and use this control". Its really annoying
and
disrupting my web experience. I do know this really this is a
blatant
attack on Adobe and Flash by Microsoft and is obviously
related to the Adobe
takeover of Macromedia, and probably also related to the fact
that it is now
impossible for anyone to install Flash Player (which Adobe is
ignoring
because their support is so useless since the takeover). Is
there something
I can do to prevent these questions being posted? I've
searched all the
forums and cannot find any information. Surely someone else
has had this
problem.
JeckylSome people don't like to search...
Some people don't know what to search...
Some people don't even know there is a search...
Just ask them to search for "click to activate and use this

Content Pane: Help getting rid of "Click to activate this control"
I know this came up a long time ago when IE
changed--Flash/swf content needs to be clicked to be activated
first. I thought Robohelp 6 would address it, but not.
The challenge: Cannot use the fixes publised because the html
pages created by Robohelp, like the Content pane, are generated
with Javascript. Ironically posted solutions use Javascript to
change the Embed, object, etc. tags! And I don't know Javascript!
The entire Content pane needs to be clicked first so you can
click an item in the contents. Its html file seems to be
wf_master.htm and when you look at the code, the tags are fed in
like this:
// Build tag to document.write
strObject = "<OBJECT
classid='clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000' codebase='
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0'";
strObject += "WIDTH='100%' HEIGHT='100%' id='masterSWF'
ALIGN='' VIEWASTEXT>";
strObject += "<PARAM NAME='movie'
VALUE='wf_master.swf'>";
strObject += "<PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>";
strObject += "<PARAM NAME='menu' value='false'>";
// FlashVars for Object tag:
strObject += "<PARAM NAME=FlashVars VALUE='" +
strFlashVars + "'>";
strObject += "<EMBED src='wf_master.swf' quality=high
WIDTH='100%' menu='false' HEIGHT='100%' NAME='masterSWF'
swliveconnect=true ALIGN='' ";
// FlashVars for Embed tag:
strObject += "FlashVars='" + strFlashVars + "' ";
strObject += "TYPE='application/x-shockwave-flash'
PLUGINSPAGE='
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'>";
strObject += "</EMBED>";
strObject += "</OBJECT>";
Adobe's solutions 1 or 2
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/activecontent/
assume you have regular html files.
*Question/request:
1) Has/can someone come up with a way or code (or function?)
that can be added somewhere centrally (in a key file) so when
robohelp renders the above html tags are replaced therefore
eliminating the need of clicking the swf content to activate it?
I don't know how Robohelp renders to help me find the file
where a change like this can be made.
2) Or can the output Javascript file be modified?
Robohelp seems to ride on Javascript and the 'solutions' are
in Javascript. I can't believe RObohelp developers have not
addressed this with the Robohelp 6.
I upgraded to Robohelp 6, use Robohelp HTML, publish using
FlashHelp, and my users use IE,just search forum - this has been discussed almost everyday
since the issue surfaced a few
weeks/months ago - in fact somebody actually posted a link to
an article explaining it 11 minutes
before you posted your question
Subject: IE Changes Due: What you can Expect.
It's not a flash issue - it is an Eolas/Microsoft issue. Also
google around - tons of articles on
news sites about this and also on adobe and macromedia that
explains it all.
