Flash content freezing my system!

Hey there,
I've been having an issue with Flash content for the past three weeks now, I've tried just about anything and I'm becoming desperate. I've conducted a wide variety of tests on the various components in my build, but I'm still no closer to discovering what the issue may be.
The Issue
Occasionally, when watching Flash content, my computer will freeze and I'll lose all control over the mouse and keyboard. It sounds like the computer is about to blue screen (looping audio), but it doesn't - it just hangs on the same image for anywhere between 15 seconds to 2 minutes. Sometimes, I need to hard restart my system in order to use the computer again.
This will typically happen when Flash content is played full-screen on websites like YouTube and Twitch.tv, and on resolutions higher than 480p - but I have experienced (less frequent) crashes when the content is not full-screen, at 360p. It just seems to be video that causes the problem, as I've yet to have any issues with websites that present an alternative form of Flash content.
Hardware:
Processor: Intel i5-2500K @ 3.30GHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 1280MB
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
Memory: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W
Nothing is overclocked.
I’ve uploaded my DxDiag here.
What have I done to try and diagnose the problem?
Enabled and disabled hardware acceleration.
Updated to latest graphics card drivers, also rolled back to previous versions I’ve known to work previously with my system.
Monitored system usage/temperatures when watching HD Flash content. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Ran Memtestx86 for 24 hours. No errors.
Ran Prime95 Blend for 24 hours. No errors.
FurMark for 2 hours to test graphics card stability, things seemed fine. I have been playing Far Cry 3 continuously on high settings for the past few days with zero instability.
I’ve tried downloading older versions of Flash, and using different browsers.  No change.
When did it start?
The issue started when I updated the BIOS for my motherboard (ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3) from v1.20 to v2.20, since then I've updated to v2.30. I would roll back to v1.20, but it’s simply not possible according to various sources I’ve read online.
Thoughts
I’m pretty sure my hardware is fine. All the tests I’ve done indicate my system is stable when I’m not running Flash content. I’ve been playing games, writing documents for university and browsing the internet with absolutely no issues (as long as I don’t watch any Flash content). Therefore, I suspect there are compatibility issues with Flash, my hardware setup and the latest BIOS updates from ASRock, but maybe I’ve missed something. If you’ve got any ideas PLEASE leave a reply. I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure out what’s going on here, some help would be great.
Cheers!

What is your display adapter, and what device driver version do you have installed?

  • Flash Content Freezes Temporarily in IE

After moving the mouse on to Flash content on a web page in
IE6 and IE7, it freezes for a few seconds, and then becomes
responsive again. It seems that when this happens, everything on
the page including links and rollover images become unresponsive as
    well.
I tried reinstalling IE7 (during which time I tested the
problem in IE6) with no luck in either browser. There was still a
slight duration of unresponsiveness. I also uninstalled flash
player and installed the standalone version of 9,0,28.
Firefox and Opera are both fine and do not present this
    issue.
I know this is confined to my PC only as I tested it on my
flat mate's PCs. But I was wondering if anyone else has had this
problem or might be able to help or suggest something to try.
It might be worth noting that when the Flash content is
playing audio, the audio does not stop when the mouse and visual
frames halt for that short period.

    Solved!
It was a problem with FlashGet 1.80. This version of FlashGet
introduced a Flash download button which annoyingly popped up right
under the mouse cursor when you moused over a Flash object on a web
page and must have been causing any Flash content to pause for a
    short time.
The latest version of FlashGet v1.82 does not present this
    problem :)

  • Flash content freezes website

    Hello guys,
I'm a webmaster at techgyo.com I don't have a heavy content, just few flash ads displayed by Google adsense or embedded youtube videos. users complain when ever they load a page with flash content, the whole pc starts freezing. I have the same issue with the other site aswell so its not just an issue with one site.
The other site hosted on the same server has the issue also 3rd one on a different server too has this issue. The other sites are howtosection and gadgetnote
It happens on firefox and chrome
    WIndows 8 OS
    very few tabs opened.

Did you allow the plugin-container process in the firewall?
Does it still happen if you disable OOPP for Flash?

  • Clicking on any flash content "freezes" my broswer window.

Hello, so my issue is this: Whenever I try to click on something that uses flash, for this example youtube videos, it "freezes" my browser window.  By freezes I mean the mouse icon freezes as the little clicking hand icon and I can no longer click on anything on that browser.  The only way to stop this is to click on the icon of my browser in my taskbar.  This minimizes the browser.  When I click it again, everything is back in working order.  Until, of course, I try to click on the video again.  I know the browser is not truley frozen, because the video continues to play, and if my click was on the video itself, I can still use the space bar to pause and play the video.  This happens for games using flash as well (and I assume anything else that uses flash).  I tried youtube using the HTML5 trial and experienced no problems.
I am currently running the latest version of flash, and I'm experiencing these problems on Firefox and Crome.  I have followed all of the steps listed here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html
I have also tried uninstalling flash, restarting the computer, and reinstalling flash.  This did nothing.
    Help?

An update.  I just tried watching a youtube video someone put on my facebook wall.  I was able to watch the video, click play/pause, full screen, etc. without any problems.  As soon as I clicked the youtube button to go to the actual page, I encountered the same problem as before.  I don't know much about computers, so I can only assume embeded videos work differently somehow so that I can watch it?

  • Flash Player freezes my system with Windows XP.  Won't play videos.

When I download the player and install it, then try to pay a video either on youtube or any other site, my mouse freezes, 1o seconds later my screen goes blank and the blue light behind the power button on the monitor starts to flash like it is hybernation mode.  I then have to push the power button on the computer to shut it off and then restart.  I have to unistall the Flash in order to just go to some websites, much less watch video.  ANy ideas???

  • Windows 8 freezes while I try to watch online Flash content and running Audition CS6

I recently bought a online introduction course to Auditon CS6 on Vimeo.com
While I have a setup where I put the lecture on one screen and the program on the other I like to follow tutorials and learn how to use software.
However this proves to be impossible for me in Audition, because for some reason my computer gets completely unresponsive after a little while of watching the lectures with Audition running.
It never happens when Audition hasn't been launched, and I'm kind of suspecting a driver conflict, but I don't have a fancy audio card in my computer, (just built in Realtek,) and find it a bit
odd that it wouldn't be supported as it is some of the most common audio setups around. As far as I know the system runs stable with Audition running and no Flash content started as well.
This has happened for the last couple of months and I've updated Flash and drivers as they roll out. Audition CS6 is downloaded with the Creative Cloud application Manager.
Here is some general info on my computer:
OS: Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.
Motherboard: eVGA x58 Classified (Tried with stock BIOS and also updated to new BIOS)
    Audio Card: Realtek (on motherboard)
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti
The system storage device is a SSD (Firmware recently updated due to BSODs apearing, and seems to be resolved.)
I do believe that this might not be a Audition issue, but rather a issue with Flash. However Audition + Flash reproduces this problem faster than anything else I can remember this happening while
using other 3rd party software while playing Flash. (Not exactly the type of software.) I have a suspicion that it is something that occurs if Flash and other programs is paging/wiring/reading the SSD...
I can't remember this happening with Photoshop or other Adobe software, and so I'm also curious to how different Audition runs "under the hood" so to speak. What is it constantly checking
that could lead to a hardware conflict.

A month ago I uninstalled AVG Internet security from my computer making it a lot less potent to BSODs in general, (can't reacall having any.) So today I thought I'd try to learn some more Audition. I could Sit with it for a good while just playing around with recordings and settings and my system didn't react weirdly at all. So the next step was of course to try and load some of the Udemy lectures I had waiting.
As the video was buffering I turned away from the computer for a while, but when I came back it had completely froze up again... I don't think I've ever had a BSOD in this context either, instead of going into BSOD the computer just stops responding completely.
(I'm using the latest version of Flash, tried with both Firefox and Chrome.)
I'm thinking this is a very niche bug and I can't seem to se that it can be anything but a conflict with Flash. Weither it's a memory leek or what ever it is.
I can use Audition fine on my computer it seems, as long as I never start a browser in risk of loading a Flash application, (which would be fine if I was avid, but I need some lectures to get started.)
Nothing really seems to be overloaded (RAM/CPU) before the freeze ocurs either.
I  don't really know where or how to adress this to the Flash Player forum/community, (or if there is one.)
    Thanks.

  • Flash content makes Firefox to freeze/crash

    Hi Team,
I have posted my problem a few days ago as a comment (an answer) to the "flash plugin" post from "cj_gadget". But I have got no answer, probably because the "flash plugin" post was labelled as "solved".
So I now post my problem as a new question, and since I have a Macintosh configuration while "cj_gadget" (and many others) was using a Windows PC, the solution may be different!
After a long period without using it, my iMac (running with Mac OS X 10.6.8) has been recently updated with the most recent versions of Firefox (25.0) and Flash Player & Plugin (11.9.900.117). The result is that Firefox crashes (freezes) on every page with Flash content. For other reasons, I have to stay with Mac OS 10.6.8 without upgrading to more recent OS versions. I have looked through Firefox and Adobe Flash Player help pages, as well as through many posts on this forum without finding an effective solution.
Following some of these posts, I have unchecked (in Firefox > Preferences > Advanced) the use of hardware graphic accelerator. Many posts advise to do the same for Flash Player with a right click on the video frame, but this is NOT possible since Firefox freezes immediately as all Flash video start automatically when the page is loaded.
I have also checked that a HTML5 video displays correctly as for : "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2w&html5=True" while "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2w" stucks Firefox. This Firefox freezing problem is general for all pages with Flash content (that is for a large fraction of the Web!) and NOT limited to Youtube which was just used here as an example.
Some more information : RealPlayer was not present on this computer when the problem appeared. If I disable the Flash pluging in Firefox, it does nor freeze, but of course does not display the video. Safari (version 5.1.10 - ok for Apple software update) works fine with Flash content.
I have sent many hours on this problem without progress and would strongly appreciate any help or even better a solution !

Hi, jpdemers , and thanks for your advices.
I have been travelling for some time and was not in position to make any new test for about two weeks (the affected machine is an iMac at home).
Today I have uninstalled Firefox using AppCleaner, as well as Flash Player using Adobe uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg ; and I have then installed both of them from scratch.
Unfortunately the problem is still there :-(
I just notice that I forgot to reboot the iMac (twice) as you said. I believe it may not be so important, but I will repeat the cycle with the reboots included (early next year now !).
I will keep you updated on the issue, and I hope I will not have to reinstall the system. I have the install discs, but this may be an heavy burden...
In the meanwhile, I wish you an happy new year !

  • Safari 4.0.4/Firefox 3.5.2 Freeze on Flash Content in Tiger 10.4.11

Sorry for any cross postings. I can't seem to find a thread where this issue is started by someone who is using Tiger as opposed to either Leopard.
Both Firefox and Safari get the spinning beach ball of death when they encounter Flash programming. I first encountered it with the Huffington Post website on Wednesday night, and then noticed it when trying to access some pages in Facebook with video, and ditto with Youtube. All Flash content.
My first attempt to deal with this was to just uninstall Flash. That worked, in the sense that pages no longer hung. However, I do need some of that Flash content and having uninstalled Flash, I couldn't access that content.
So yesterday I installed SafariStand so I might try to access some of the content that I need and that has partially worked. I set the Stand prefs to not auto load Flash and to ask me if I want to load Flash content in each instance. The pages load and are not hanging and I get a little box that tells me to click if I want to load Flash content. HuffPo, Youtube, even Facebook seems to work fine, I can click on Flash content and it plays without the spinning beach ball/freeze.
However, there is Flash content that I want to run and still can't because when I tell the Flash Plug In to load some content, it freezes the program and I get the spinning ball. Same happens to the same pages and sites in Firefox. I just updated Firefox 10 minutes ago and it didn't help. I've got Safari 4.0.4. I've been trying to load the BBC Listen Again iPlayer and it keeps freezing Safari and Firefox.
I've got OS X 10.4.11. I just checked again and there are no new OS updates for Tiger.
So any ideas? I have been dumping cache, removing the history and all that mumbo jumbo, which does not a lick of good for this issue. Like many others, since Safari 4 came out I've experienced more freezes than in all my prior years of being a Mac user. If it is an issue with Flash, will Apple deal with this? This is insane!

You have tried a lot of things, all correct, but have you repaired permissions since reinstalling Flash?
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.
Also, how much RAM do you have? Some older G4's can struggle with today's streamed flash content.

  • Firefox freezes many times when I'm playing Flash Contents (Youtube)

Hello. I have upgraded to Firefox 2.6.8 a while ago. The problem occurred recently. Whenever I play Flash Content usually on Youtube, Firefox freezes for many times and it makes my computer runs slower. It's not normal because I have a fast computer

YouTube videos use the Flash plugin. You can test your Flash plugin and see what version is installed by going to [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Adobe's Flash Player test page]. To update Flash to the latest version, see [[Managing the Flash plugin]].
Starting in Firefox 3.6.4, Flash is loaded in a separate plugin-container process. For the background, see the articles [[What is plugin-container]] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins (MozillaZine KB)].
If Firefox hangs when playing Flash videos at YouTube, it could be a video driver issue, Try turning off hardware acceleration in your [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player display settings] (visit any page that uses Flash, such as [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Adobe's test page], then right-click the Flash animation, select Settings, and uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration" on the Display panel). ...More information here:

  • Firefox crashes or freezes unexpected while watching/using flash contents

Firefox crashes or freezes unexpected while watching/using flash contents. Particularly, when I need any flash content. It freezes up so that the only option will be to force quit the firefox.

I've noticed the crashing increasing with the newer versions. The worst thing is when I'm writing a long email and then go to a page with flash and ff locks up and then crashes. I use IE now for most flash content or mission critical emailing but IE's interface is poorly laid out so I don't like it. I've tried FF with the plugin container and without it and it crashes either way (more often without the container). I use adblock and firebug. I wonder if ppl experiencing this prob are using those plugins too.

  • Flash Player freezes in every browser for the past 4 months

    I'm running Windows 7 on a 64-bit system Dell
I have this problem on Firefox, IE, and also Chrome
I have the latest Flash player 11
I'm not one to post in forums, but this problem has been particularly driving me crazy for almost half a year. Each week, on a random day, my flash player decides to freeze wherever video is played. I have tried all browsers I can. I then proceed to uninstall flash, reinstall flash, restart my computer, update my drivers, and then it works. Some 5 days later..... it freezes on me AGAIN. Each time I get a popup saying "Flash is not responding" It freezes my whole browser and makes it shut down. Two of my classmates are having this same issue -- one with a Mac and one with an HP 32 bit.
Please Please Help me. I don't know what to do anymore.... this is getting disruptive and irritating.
    Thank you

It's flash.  Not your computer.  I have 16 computers at my office and flash is getting worse and worse with every patch.  The older computers can barely play flash anymore (EVEN videos that worked PERFECTLY before saved on the hard drives) and the videos are stuttering because lack of horsepower to play with the newer degraded flash software.  I say degraded because these SAME videos played perfectly on older versions of flash.
FLASH is becoming completely unusable.  I have machines ranging from Dos, Win 95, 98, many Win XP machines, Ubuntu, some vista machines, and a few Win 7 machines of all different makes on a high speed dual internet network.  I wish I had refused to update flash but sadly you can only refuse so long before the video won't play.
    VERY dissapointed in ADOBE products.
I hope HTML 5 kills flash in the future.   Having 1 company with all this control over content is bad when the product becomes so flakey it crashes browsers (Chrome, Chromium, IE, Firefox).
The slowdowns are across the board affecting Ubuntu, Windows machines.
I have a feeling they are trying to implement copy protection in the streams due to the increase of popularity of VEVO, youtube, and website content using more advanced flash content than ever.
All in all - if something else comes along I'm removing all adobe products from all company computers and our thousands of customers.  Can't wait for open source HTML 5.
Only my highest end computers play flash without slowdowns now.

  • Flash content flashing and crashing mac

    Hello,
Since the latest FF and Flash update (37 and 17) I can't watch any videos or flash content - like (annoying ad) banners. Everything literally FLASHES. Like a strobe light. Then videos get stuck, the cursor jumps/freezes, sound stutters and eventually mac crashes (panic). The fans are constantly hyperventilating but nothing weird is running in activity monitor.
    I have:
    * Uninstalled and reinstalled flash; same for Firefox; cleaned flash cache - nothing
    * I only have flash, java and QuickTime plugins installed
    * Downgraded flash to previous version (16) - better, no flashes, but still stutters and crashes after watching video for 10-15 minutes most (sometimes not even that)
    * Tried to watch using VPN but after a while graphics and sound go crazy
    * Decided to upgrade again to flash 17. Now it flashes again and I can't watch videos for even 1 minute.
    * Tried the about:config media.mediasource.enabled (change to true); dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode (change to false); Firefox "get info" open with 32-bit mode; - nothing worked
What can I do? Any idea?
    Thanks

    mms.cfg = Flash Player
Go to your plugins page. Set everything video to '''Ask.'''
You could try disabling Flash plugin's protected mode. The protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. There is a new hidden setting for this:
    (A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (B) In the search box above the list, type or paste flash and pause while the list is filtered
    (C) Double-click the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode preference to switch its value from false to true.
This might not take effect until all Flash has been unloaded for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.
    1) Enter the config by typing about:config in the address bar.
    2) Enter media.mediasource.webm.enabled and press enter.
    3) Right click on it and change to true, for some reason it is set as "false" which makes MSE & WebM VP9 not work properly.
    4) Visit: https://www.youtube.com/html5 and check that everything is OK.
    5) Try to watch a video. It should work now.

  • [FP 11.4 & FF 14.0.1] Firefox hang on every page with flash-content

    Hi at all
I have a problem with the new Flash Player, let me explain it:
We have a windows-domain with software distribution via GPO.
Since update to 11.4 via the msi package (11.3 was previously installed) we have in the meanwhile 3 PCs (all Win7 x32 with FF 14.0.1 and Flash 11.4) with this problem:
    - While loading a page with Flash content, the Firefox simply freezes and have to be killed together with plugin-container in order to work again.
If this happens, ff and plugin-container have 0% cpu-usage. It freezes and does nothing...
If I remove Flash: Web-pages are working, but without flash.
    What I've tried:
    reinstall using flash-uninstaller
    Using "normal" end-user web-installer
Uninstall via Uninstaller and tried 11.3 again
reinstall Firefox, both 14 and 13
Nothing helped to bring Flash-support back.
This happens only on FF, Internet Explorer is working fine...
Can someone give me a hint?

    Chris Campbell wrote:
The key here will be to determine what is different between the machines that work and those that hang.  Of all the systems that fail, they are all Windows 7 32bit?
Yep, this issue only happens on Windows 7 32-bit machines, currently 6.
Do you have any 32bit systems that don't fail?
Yep, the most Windows 7 32-bit machines wont fail.
What about hardware, are there similarities here?  Attached devices/drivers?  Software that is running at the time?
These machines are all from DELL. They all have normal hardware, nothing special. Other machines from same type does not affected. Software: All have standard software distributed via Software-distribution (GPO). Only some PCs have special software, but it is not running. No special drives, too.
Maybe try booting Windows in safe mode to see if it still hangs?
Good idea, indeed - I will try this.
We're definitely interested in what's going on.  I'll ask our security and Mozilla folks to see if they have additional clues.
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
Safe mode: Flash is working! (without disabled Protected Mode!)
I've set msconfig now to: Custom system start and deselected the boxes to load systemservices and system start elements.
So, now windows does a non-safe mode boot but no service or element was loaded except the drivers (right?). Flash is not working with this config!
So, whats the difference between safe mode and normal boot with minimal configuration (see attached picture).
Only drivers will be loaded, right? If so, I can exclude the network and graphics driver as source: graphics driver are updated right now and network was working in safe-mode.
    Any new ideas?

  • Flash games freeze for some seconds every some minutes

I just had a stupid moment and upgraded from Firefox 22 to 30 yesterday. I know every version adds problems and removes features, but I wanted check what is the current status.
Now, Firefox 30 freezes flash games for some seconds every some minutes. Of course, with the 22 this never happened.
The computer is identical, only Firefox is changed.
Considering the level of the answers here, I in advance say:
    * no there are no viruses or malwares - I said only Firefox is changed
    * yes I cleared cache cookies and other stuff people say when they do not know what else to say
    * yes flash is the same version
    * I have no theme and the addons are the same of the old version
    * I could care less about safe mode. The old version never saw safe mode and it worked fine
Maybe there is some stupid about config setting for which Firefox want an useless disk access? something new in the version 30 I mean.
Maybe version 30 is become so inefficient that when it updates the cache it freezes totally?
I have last faint hope for some real practical suggestion, for which I thank in advance.
With FF 22 I could play flash games for hours without problems, with v 30 I need to close it every hour otherwise it takes so much RAM (up to 2 GB) it totally hangs. But hey they removed the download window, they say "use an addon". When the RAM is totally out, they say "you have too many addons". Wonder why. Next time we will need an addon for supporting images?

    Hi zzzz1,
This is a really good question. It has been a while since I have tried version 22, but you have mentioned most of the recommended troubleshooting steps including: malware, clearing cache(offline), updating flash, safe mode and no new add ons.
I wonder if the new version has different system requirements.
    [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/22.0/system-requirements/ version 22][https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/30.0/system-requirements/ version 30]- No.
There are add ons that optimize cache size and block flash content, as well as Ad block plus which blocks some scripts running in the browser. These could minimize the 2GB of Ram.
In all practicality, have you tried reinstalling Flash or clearing the actual flash cache. This may mess with online game storage though, so maybe not.
