Flash content 'on top'

I have a site with a css generated drop down menu, this drop
down menu goes 'over' any content below it. When I insert a Flash
file though the drop down menu appears behind it. Anyone got any
ideas how to make the menu on top please? See URL:

Except for Active Content. ;) This is due to the way Flash
and other
Active Content works. Such content is not actually *in* the
page, but the
browser collaborates with the Flash Player (or the Java
Virtual Machine, or
Windows Media Player, etc.) to make it seem that it is.
Here's a brief article on how to get around it.

  • Forms appear on top of flash content in IE

    Hello.
These 2 should be common problems, I saw it on many sites, if
somone has a solution please let me know.
I use a drop down flash menu that lays over html content,
flash menu is made transparent by WMODE.
    1. In IE (but not in Mozilla) the flash menu is always
    displayed behind html form items.
    2. In Mozilla (but not in IE) if I have html links behind
that flash content then the links are visible but not clickable in
    Mozilla.
Any solutions? If I wasn't clear please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Flash content distorts when scrolling and switching tabs.. since FF 13.0.1..

    Before describing the issue
Please note from the System Details pane to this post that I have the latest flash, etc.
And Windows updates, are up to date.
    ==================================================
Issue: Scrolling distorts flash player window (Youtube, hulu, etc.)
Since: FF 13.0.1 update in June. (I posted on the issue under "badly scrambled images".)
Problem is still there with FF 14.0.1
    This distortion happens:
    # even with just starting the browser (so no bloated cache)
    # even with just only one or two tabs open.
And since last week's update to FF 14.01, I have also detected:
Switching to the the tab with flash content will "imprint" the image from the my previous tab on to the flash player. I have to scroll or refresh to get the flash player to show its content.
FYI, none of these flash player problems occur with IE9.
The advise from a regular contributor was to turn off hardware acceleration, but these did not solve this issue.:(
Solutions suggesting disabling all the plugins etc. have not solved the problem either.
So if you can tell me some other way to solve this, I will appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Sorry, it took me a while to give feedback for the suggestions you have given here.
(Please refer to sidebar on the original post for system details.)
I have reset the profile and updated the Nvidia driver. The version of FF is 14.0.1. But it still scrambles the pictures.
On top of scrambling the flash content when scrolling, it has additional problems:
As you can see from the attached image, another tab's content is showing on the youtube flash player. This happens when I have paused the video even for a short time.
I have a suspicion that the combination of Flash and Firefox does some weird things to graphic processing and memory.
(I realize that IE implements Flash differently, but they seem to have this right.)
I might just have to say goodbye to Firefox for a while.
    Thanks.

  • How to centre Flash content in browser window?

    Hi there
I'm relatively new to Flash, so maybe there's a simple answer to this one.
How do I centre my Flash content horizontally in the browser window? In the Publish Settings I see there are options to align the HTML to Default, Left, Right, Top and Bottom, but no Center. Is there a setting somewhere else? Do I need to write some ActionScript to do this? (If so, what?)
    I'd appreciate any suggestions.
    (I'm using CS3 on a Mac.)

OK, I'm fumbling around a bit here. I see now that the Flash content does resize to fit the window. So, back to my original question: how can I get it to keep its original size but stay centered horizontally in the window?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Flash content renders above everything else

This is something that has been happening since even way before I upgraded to Safari 5. Every page that has any flash content renders the flash on top of everything else.
Example: a site with a dropdown menu and a large content slider made with flash, the flash covers the dropdown menu making it impossible to click the links. Or heres an example that I have a screenshot of:
    http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/5820/flashk.png
Here the flash covers only part of the content but its annoying especially on sites built with large flash areas. Is there a fix for this? This has been happening for as long as I can remember.

Honestly I cannot find any other sites, I know there are many out there I just cant remember the name. Regardless this happens no matter what, for some reason my Safari renders Flash the top layer in ANY instance. I can try to explain another site I remember distinctly: The site had a header much like the Apple site here except that the menu was a CSS dropdown menu. Right below the menu was a sort of "headlines/highlights" section which spanned the full width of the webpage design and it was build purely with flash. Now, every time you hover over one of the menu items they drop down, right below the flash so I couldn't read the links or even click them because Flash was stacked on top.
Another example I can think of is sites that use a javascript/jquery image viewer where you'd click a thumbnail and it would pop it up full size (like Gizmodo does with their galleries). Now if there is a banner ad on the side and I click an image it will come up full size but it doesn't cover the whole page like it should, it covers everything but the flash.

  • Flash content disappears - HELP

I have just gotten back to working on my XP machine and flash
content disappears after about 1 to 2 seconds. Even on the
Macromedia home page, the entire top of their page shows up and
goes away. I have read about the xp sp2 problems and I did recently
upgrade. I have read the fixes about there (i.e. pop up blocking
level, puting <!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet --> in
the htm file...none of this works. Firefox works fine, IE doesn't.
When I publish with preview in the Flash IDE - no luck either.
Do my problems sound like they are related to XP sp2? If any
one out there has seen this type of behavior and has
    suggests...many thanks in advance.
    - Richard

I found the problem...it was my firewall software...it was
    blocking popup ads...
    Thanks....

  • Flash Content in HTMLLoader ignores DisplayList

When using an HTMLLoader to load a page that includes Flash
content, the Flash content always appears at the top of the
applications displayList. Even if a DisplayObject is given a higher
index than the HTMLLoader object, the Flash content always appears
    on top.
Can anyone offer any help on this?

HI Shift_nis - you need to set the index on adobe display objects so example
    window.htmlLoader.stage.setChildIndex(displayObject,1)
will set the index to 1.
    Example:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/display/DisplayObjectConta iner.html
    Hope this helps

  • Flash content won't hide properly

I have four DW layers on top of each other, two of which
contain flash content - I have had to set wmode to 'window' in
order to make the movies work in Firefox.
This means however that when I load the page the movies flash
up on screen whilst they are loading before disappearing even
through they layers in which they are contained are set to hide
onLoad (z index has no effect)
I hope this makes sense - does anyone have any ideas ?
    http://www.drawbox.co.uk/knoll/design3/page1.html

What exactly do you mean "won't install properly"?

  • Layout page with flash movie on top

I want to have the index page for my site open with a flash
movie on top of the rest of the content of the page at a set pixel
distance from the top of the page and centered horizontally in
relation to the browser. I have been able to make this work with an
absolute location using CSS elements in Dreamweaver and the
equivalent of what used to be layers. It all works as long as the
position of the layer is absolute, and your monitor settings are
pretty standard. Otherwise the flash plays on the left:
    http://www.iconoclastic.net/metaphordogs/index.html
When I try to make it a relative location, it moves to the
top of the browser. When I try to make it relative to a table, it
displaces the table content rather than playing over it.
    Any assistance would be appreciated
    Alec

The standard solution is to set wmode="transparent" and <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> in your embed/object html, but that only helps to fix the problem in win/IE. The problem has been there on Adobe's own home page for years. If you're unlucky enough to use a Mac there's no effective solution for this problem.

  • Can't View Flash Content in Opera 9

    Hello,
I'm having viewing Flash content with Opera 9. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Flash (9.0.18), and my other browsers have no problem showing the Flash content.
Am I missing something here with getting Opera 9 to display Flash movies, etc.? I can't figure out how to instruct the browser to display it.
    Many thanks,
    sarah

    Sheeesh, fixed it.
    Open Opera 9 Preferences
Click the Advanced Tab at the top
Select Downloads in the left column, you will get a Mime type window
Scroll and find .swf extension then click Edit
At the bottom of the window that opens it should be checked "Use plug-in" and show Shockwave Flash
Select Shockwave Flash and you will see another one listed as well, swap to it and restart Opera.
Somehow, even though I did uninstall all older components, it's found and used the wrong one.
Now Flash works fine in Opera 9, Safari and Firefox.

  • My website navigation bar falls behind the flash content

    Hello All,
    i have the website, http://www.retailtechnologyexperts.com
and am using safari 4 and to be precise..it is safari 4(530.17)
i have made almost all the changes,,but the navigation bar falls behind the flash content on the homepage..i have checked this in all the other browsers like,,ie8, ie7, firefox, chrome,,they are responding positively,,by displaying the flash behind the nav bar...
i was initially having a problem with various browsers...but one by one,,i was able to clear off...but am not able to clear the problem with safari 4
safari being widely used browser..i dont want to mess up my site here...
any help will be greatly appreciated..
    thank u,,

    It works here but...
The pitfall of Flash and movie/video media is they tent to be on top of everything on a web page. No matter what the z space is set for the Flash media in the html code. Use to be called, "rising to the top."
So, that being said...just because it works on my computer doesn't mean it will work on another computer. There a big chance that the menu will fall behind the Flash media for other viewers. Move the Flash or redesign the menu.
You might not like this answer but that is the way it is with media on a web page.

  • Can't interact with any open windows, can't interact with flash content

I've already tried reinstalling, resetting and deleting my profile, nothing's changed.
I can't close any Firefox window by pressing "x", or by pressing Alt+F4, I can only close it through the task manager or task bar. Minimising or going into windowed mode is also impossible.
If a new window opens itself (e.g. A download) I can't interact with it at all - It's visible on top of the main window, but nothing I do affects it.
I also can't interact with flash content (like pausing a youtube video)
There is absolutely no feedback when I try. The icon doesn't change.
I recently reset firefox, there are no add-ons, themes etc. installed, the problem persists.
I am running Windows 7 64bit, everything else (including other browsers) appears to be working fine and a virus scan (Avast! free version) turned up nothing.
    I'd really appreciate any help!

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Flash content appears then disappears

I am having problems with Flash Player. On a website it will briefly show what is there and then revert to the page backgroung color. If I point at the content the arrow changes to a hand and I can click and proceed. However that is because I know what is on the page (Hp.com - support and downloads - drivers). I also went to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/  and clicked the link to test the Flash Player and I see the version info and a broief flash across the top but I do not see the swirling F. Then I see a Get a Free PC Health Check box come up. I downloaded and tested FireFox and had no problems there. I am using IE9 32-bit on Windows 7 Pro SP1 32-bit. My Flash version is 11.1.102.55. In Internet Options - Programs - Manage Addons I have Shockwave Flash Object version 11.1.102.55 enabled. I also have Shockwave ActiveX Control version 11.6.3 enabled.

Windows: how do I update the device driver for my video/display adapter?
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

  • Same issue for a year now with watching Flash content, nothing has changed

One of my main gripes about Safari, is that while I am watching a flash movie in one safari window and have another safari window open typing, doing work etc., the flash video stutters in the first window (looks like it is evenly dropping frames incrementally) . Sound is fine, no prob there.
It doesn't matter what flash video it is, from whatever site, it will always do this... and it is very annoying. When using Safari, do I really have to be using one open window, while watching the Falsh content so it is smooth like it was designed to be?
Now on the other hand i do not have this problem in Firefox. I can have two windows open, one playing flash content and I will have it sized down in the left hand corner of my screen, and have another window open which I am typing in, and have no reduciton in quality...whatsoever.
I have tried everything possible, I am not a new mac user , and I am familiar with every suggestion one would suggest here as a starting point. Regarding, Permissions, trashing folders, resarting, re-installing combo updates, un-installing flash, re-installing flash; etc, etc.
    Thanks

Thanks for the the speedy reply. And thank you for all your suggestions about standard plugins and the current plugins now available to the user. I am familiar with them, etc. i have also restarted,
"repaired premissions" etc. Yes, I am current in OS, Flash, all plugins you speak of, etc. Combo update has been re-applied, flash un-installed, then re-installed...etc, etc..
I have attemped everything you speak of, and everything I can come up with, but there is no change in my problem.
Can you do something for me? I want you to go onto the youtube website, pick a video to watch and and with only one safari window open, I want you to leave some room on top of browser window so you can see your desktop. Now move your cursor over your desktop, and click on the desktop - which will activate the finder, and Safari will no longer be the chosen app. Do you see the difference in picture quality in the safari window hosting the flash video?
Try it again. Click on the Safari window, then back to the desktop. Vice versa. Everyone I know I have showed this too , sees the obvious difference. My mother says, well I can see what you are talking about, but it doesn't bother me...well, my mother is pretty old, so she doesn't count.
Well, for me The picture quality starts to drop frames evenly through the whole entire video.
    Firefox does not do this.
    Can anybody else try this,
my system cannot be the casue,
for I have recently re-installed this OS,
and the problem still exists. I am very familiar with updates,
and the like. All the usual suggestions have been applied.
And, If this is just the way it is in Safari, I can live with that...I mean, i live with the memory leaks that it has, and other quirks about it. But, If this is a unique problem , then ..well, I have a problem

  • I can not get any sound while playing Flash content in IE, FireFox, or Chrome

I have Windows 7, 64 bit.  I have ie 8, I think it is 32 bit, ("About ie" does not indicate 64bit).
I have unistalled Adobe Flash and re-installed, I have verified that I have the REG files under System32/ and SysWOW64/ (or whatever)...
I installed Chrome after I have having this problem.  I have plugged my speakers into both the AudioJack in the back of machine, as well as in the headphone Jack.  I have tried just using headphones...
I have gone to the 'configuration site' I have deleted Windows temporary files, I have deleted i.e. and FireFox files.
I have checked multimedia setting in ie advanced tabs.
I have checked the sound volume in the 'Mixer'
Sound works in my broser for Quicktime applications (like video on apples website).  Sound works everywhere else...playing music, Windows startup, speaker test, etc...
I have worked on this for hours!!!  Please help.
    Thanks!

    Below are the Steps from:
    http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm
    And my results:
Flash stores its files in a temporary files folder. A corrupt download can cause the sound problems.
    Delete the following folders:
    C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Adobe\Flash Player
    C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player
    Actually…Note that point 1 sould be %APPDATA%\Adobe\Flash Player%APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player
    (Thanks willener)
I completed this – No help
    Empty your temporary internet files.
Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options
Firefox: Tools -> Clear Private Data
Opera: Tools -> Delete Private Data
I completed this – No help
    Empty your temporary files folder.
Use this command to empty your temporary files folder:
    Start -> Run -> RMDIR /S /Q "%TEMP%"
I completed this – No help
Install the latest version of the Flash plugin. You can download it HERE. If you have problems upgrading the plugin, then uninstall your existing version first with this tool. Close your browser(s) before you run the uninstall tool.
I completed this – No help
Run the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool. Near the top you should see an option to fix the sound (Midi, WaveOut). Select that and press Next. If the option is grayed out, then that particular registry fix is not needed. This fix will restore a missing "wavemapper" registry key.
I completed this – No help
Go to the Flash Player Settings Manager website. Click HERE.
Check the box called "Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer."
I completed this – No help
Go to the Flash Player Settings Manager website. Click HERE.
Click on the button to remove the data that the Flash plugins has stored for websites that you have visited.
I completed this – No help
Check if your sound device settings are correct:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Audio
This is not correct instructions for Windows 7.
Obviously I have checked sound settings in RealTek Audio manger several times. As well as in the mixer, and in the Internet Option Settings (Advanced Multimedia).  I checked setting under “Hardware and Sound” there is nothing there that has any effect.
If you have QuickTime installed, then go to the QuickTime control panel. On the Audio tab, set "Default Music Synthesizer" to "General MIDI".
On the Advanced tab, disable "Enable playback of Adobe Flash tracks".
On the browser tab, click on "MIME Settings". Under "Miscellaneous", make sure "Flash media" is unchecked.
These are not accurate options on my computer (Quicktime 7.6.9).
Under Default Music Synthesizer.  There is no “general MIDI” only option is “Quicktime Music Synthesizer”
Advanced Tab: “Enable playback of Adobe Flash tracks".is not an option
Browser Tab: "Flash media" is not listed under MIME Settings (There is no Miscellaneous)
Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. If not, copy it from another PC (that has the same version of Windows) and place the file in the system32 folder. If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, then the file should be present in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.
    Verified these files are here.
If you are also having sound problems with other applications, then re-installing your audio drivers might solve the problem.
I am not having problems with other audio applications, but I still completed this – No help
