Flash crashing Firefox on Mac

I recently upgraded to Firefox 3.5.5 on a TiG4 running 10.4.11, and the latest version of Flash player, 10.0.32.18.  After numerous Firefox crashes, I had support at Firefox go over the crash reports, and they concluded that the problem was entirely in Flash.  I have tried unistalling and re-installing Flash.  I am using the latest Java.  While disabling Flash prevents the crashing, what do I need to do to get everything working again?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, unlike some others here, I haven't had any installation problems.
Has anyone else been able to get the latest Flash to work with Firefox on a Mac?

  • Adobe Flash crashing every time - Mac/Firefox

Every time I try to use something that runs Flash, it crashes. I'm running Firefox 5.0 on a MacBook Pro, and I just updated both Flash and Firefox following Mozilla's instructions to try both if Flash kept crashing. It still won't work. I'm trying to upload pictures to my Flickr account and when it tries to open Flash so I can select my pictures, it crashes immediately. Using the Flickr Downloadr has the same result.
I've been having problems with PSE 9 crashing lately as well, ever since I got a new camera and have been editing .NEF image files. Any chance these issues are related?
In any case, can someone help me get Flash to stop crashing?

Glad Safari is working; it is isn't it? What about FF? Did it pass the "test"?
    Let me know.

That is a Microsoft Word issue, so you will get the best results asking over on the Microsoft Office for Mac forums on Microsoft's web site.  Many people here don't use MS Word, while everyone there does.

  • Flash Plug-in crashes Firefox/Safari, Mac OS 10.7

I have had trouble with the Flash Player plug-in crashing after I upgraded to Mac OS 10.7 a few months ago.  I have the latest version of flash player (version 10.3.183.10).  I uninstalled and re-installed Flash Player.  I also brought the computer in to the Apple store for servicing.  The people at Apple believe the problem is with the Flash Player.  I have re-installed the Mac OS 10.7 operating system as well without any luck.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I know nothing about Macs, but I'll try to give you a suggestion anyway.
Does the crash also occur when you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ or http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html http://forums.adobe.com/thread/891337?
If not, can you try to disable Hardware Acceleration (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/891337) ?

  • Flash Player (Firefox) Vs. Mac Leopard and Spaces

here is a weird issue that seems to cause more than one major
    issue for me.
If I have my Flex application open in Firefox and I CMD-TAB
to another application that on on a different Virtual Screen(Space
as Apple like to call them) then CMD-TAB back to Firefox. Firefox
will show up in the foreground but the window itself does not truly
have focus, (here is where I have two different issues one crashes
the browser every time, the other causes my text object to jump off
the the bounds of my screen). The first issue of crashing the
browser seems to happen only when I have an alert box open, if I
CMD-TAB to another space and then CMD-TAB back to firefox, then
click the OK on an alert box without clicking the title bar on
firefox to gain focus, the browser crashes. not at all sure why
    this occurs.
The other issue is the I have a page editor type of
application so you can add text and drag it around where ever you
like, if you add a text object to the workspace, then CMD-TAB to
another Space then CMD-TAB back to firefox if I click and drag a
text object it will jump off the screen, and I cannot get the
object to come back without some small hacks to be able to call an
object back to the visible workspace. This one i think occurs
because say your screen resolution is 1024x768 and you jump to
another space, then jump back without focusing I think Flash Player
thinks you are still at say (-1024*Spaces to the left) or
(+1024*spaces to the right) but if I click the title bar before any
click on flash player none of these problems occur.
This does not happen with Safari(Safari Focuses as as soon as
you CMD-TAB to it, Firefox works just fine as well as long as you
do not CMD-TAB to another Space and back)

    tgeiges,
I think your best option here would be to open a support case
    with the Flex team (
    http://www.adobe.com/support).
This sounds like something they'd be interested in testing.
You can also file Flex bugs directly to Jira here:

  • Flash crashes browsers on Mac OS X

...I navigate to a website run by the BBC. If I uninstall
Flash then I can access the page OK (the page does not need Flash

page all three browsers will crash.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.11 and the latest versions of
Safari, Camino and Firefox. I have downloaded the latest Flash from

  • Flash crashes firefox. Done with firefox as of today. It has been months of this broken buggy browser. Done!

Why does firefox not work anymore. I've tried all of the suggestions to fix it, but any page that has ads (which is all of them these days) firefox slows to a near halt, and then eventually crashes. Can't be used any more. I'm using Chrome which doesn't seem to crash. What did you guys do to this browser? I've been using it for years with no issues, now it's broken.

Have you asked for help in the past on this issue?
What have you tried to do?

  • Flash crashing Firefox

    Hey everyone,
I've searched this problem to death, and I'm not finding the answer. What is happening is every time I view a myspace page with a music player, I get the color wheel that spins and spins forcing me to Force Quit of of firefox. It occasionally happens with other flash sites like Youtube. When I restart my computer, it works great for about 5 minutes, then starts doing it again. So I got a thing called Flashblock that allows me so click on the flash object I'd like to see. So when I go to a bands myspace to listen to music, I click on it the flash object, and bam, frozen with the color wheel. It seems as if I'm not the only one with this problem. I have not found any fix yet.
    Thanks,
    Henry

I had this problem on my dual-G5 and now it has reared its ugly head on my new iMac. There were no system updates, software updates, or anything which set it off, but now I can't even go to www.nytimes.com and not have firefox 3.5 produce the spinning beach ball o' death.
Just for documentation sake, here's what I've tried (and didn't work):
    1) Full deinstallation of Flash 10.0.32.18 and installation of Flash 9r246 (which also causes the freeze).
    2) Disabling Java (saw this hint from a Windows XP user who was having problems with Flash) -- no go.
    3) Full permission repairs -- nada.
    What does work is:
    1) Turning off Flash (not a good solution).
    2) Running Flashblock -- this is turning out to be my best solution right now. It doesn't appear to be ALL flash content that freezes (e.g. with youtube and flashblock I can click the flash video and it plays fine), so this way you can continue to use flash content as you need it -- this might also be a good way to identify, specifically, which flash apps are causing the freeze.
Very frustrating considering Flash is so widely used, as is Firefox.

  • Flash crashes firefox

Hi there. None too savvy pc user here who was recently asked
to get a new version of flash. Now everytime I come across a page
that uses Flash, usually a website with a You Tube video posted but
not always, my browser (Firefox v. 1.5.0.6) freezes. I'll be forced
to close Firefox, sometimes I can just start Firefox up again, but
occasionally I'll get a message telling me that Firefox is still in
operation and I'll have to close it before I can start again. My
only recourse until this point has been to reboot.
I've been through the forums, and my problem seems similar to
others, though its usually IE and an older version of Flash.
Your help is appreciated in advance.

Have you asked for help in the past on this issue?
What have you tried to do?

  • 64 bit Flash crashing Firefox - Not just Arch

    Hi everybody,
I was wondering if anybody else is having a problem with 64 bit Flash. This isn't Arch specific, as it has happened on a custom Ubuntu remaster as well.
The graphics card is on a laptop - Ati 9600 and it happens with vesa and ati/radeon drivers. I thought it was the graphics card or xorg, but this doesn't happen with a 32bit Dreamlinux with 32bit Flash.
Youtube runs fine, whereas sites like http://www.goober.com/ with flash video just shutdown Firefox. I'm wondering of there are different types of flash video, does anybody with more knowledge know about these things?
When Firefox is started from the terminal (to look for an error message) it just says segfault.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Flash Crashes Repeatedly - Mac Lion OS / Firefox 7.0.1

I am running Firefox 7.1 and have had Adobe Flash repeatedly crash when trying to view videos on comcast.net and cbs.com.  I have updated Adobe Flash to the latest version (according to the Adobe site) and yet the crashes continue.  I need help.
    I am running:
    Mac 10.7.1. (Lion)
    Firefox 7.0.1
    Adobe Flash 10.3.183.10

i haven't seen a crashlog, so let me assume everyone has the same issue.  the root cause of the crashers are with non standard fonts.  when the player enumerates through these fonts the non standard fonts causes the player to fault.  there are a few ways to get through this issue.  pick one that you feel comfortable doing.
    try something new: level easy
we release FP 11.2 beta.  install this player version will take advantage of new code that handles the non standard fonts.  the player is beta and is watermarked, so keep this in mind.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/flashplayer11-2/
i want to use FP11: level moderate
there are 2 solutions to try.  one is a quick and dirty, but is not as thorough...
    solution 1:
move all the fonts from your /Users/<yourUsername>/Library/Fonts to another location (eg. your desktop).  you have the option to delete them if you don't ever plan to use them again
quit your browser and restart your browser
    solution 2:
this was outlined in another thread supplied by the user seantrue
    http://damnedfinesoftware.blogspot.com/2011/10/fsusage-when-adobe-flash-crashes-in.html
i don't want to use FP11, but would rather downgrade: level easy/moderate
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
download the uninstaller and run it
download the previous player version prior to FP11 (10,3,183,10)
    unpack and install
give one of them a try..
Note:  the solutions outline here apply to Safari and Firefox.  Chrome uses an embedded flash player plugin...  it's not advised, but you could disable the ebmedded plugin and make use or the installed alternative.

  • Flash makes firefox crash

Topic kinda says it all; any websites which contains flash makes firefox crash. I believe the problem started 1-2 days ago. I'm clueless, I don't remember there has been any related updates.
I've tried to move ~/.mozilla somewhere else, and reinstall flashplugin, which not fixed the problem.
Oh yeah.. opera DOES NOT crash with flash.
    Thanks in advance.

Aha! That's what I do, yes. Is there anything I can do against this, except for not wrapping it with aoss? Because I quite like how software mixing worked out of the box for me on arch
    I described it here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … highlight=
    in the last post
It would be nice if someone would add a howto or smth to set firefox to use sound with dmix

  • I installed firefox beta 5 and flash crashed on every page so i reverted back to firefox 4 and now flash crashes on every page of firefox 4. how can i fix it?

Ever since i installed firefox 5 beta and the new version of flash, flash crashes on every page with flash on it no matter what version of firefox i run, and flash wont let me roll back to another version. I need flash for my work which is due by the end of the day so any help yall can offer is appreciated.

well i fixed this for a bit by reinstalling ff4 and restarting but now the firefox 4 that i re-downloaded continues to very aggressively update itself to 5 beta without asking me. it just notifies me once its done it telling me to restart and once i close firefox, boom. flash crashes every minute or so and freezes my computer. I love firefox. i have used it for years. but if no one can help with this problem or at least tell me how to stop firefox 4 from updating to firefox beta 5 im gonna go download something else because im losing money fighting with firefox to get my work done which is now taking 10 times longer to complete. i really want to keep using firefox but this is kinda ridiculous guys... I understand that betas have bugs but dont make me use it without asking me first...
