Flash CS 4 to Quicktime frame issues

I'm rendering short (3 min.) Flash movies to Quicktime. The
movies are H.264, 1280 x 720, 15 fps, and I'm working on the
fastest machine Apple currently makes. Flash can't seem to complete
the task, as it leaves artifacts from earlier frames in subsequent
frames. It's very annoying.
Is there a setting I can tweak that will make this program do
what I bought it for?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You appear to be discussing features built-in to Dreamweaver that involve Flash content, so you may get better information from the Dreamweaver forum in regards to using these feaures.
It is unlikely that Dreamweaver 2004 would be compatible with Flash CS4, though compatibility is not really an issue since Flash has little use for Dreamweaver to do nything it needs to, and Dreamweaver is pretty much just a fancified text editor, where if you needed to incorporate Flash CS4 content you could have Flash publish the html code and then paste that code into the html file in Dreamweaver.

  • Quicktime Frames Play in iMovie but Not Exported File

I recently imported a quicktime movie clip (.mov) into imovie to use in a new project. I added the quicktime frames to the project and when I viewed the project in imovie everything displayed as expected. When I exported the project to itunes and tried to play, only the still images that were included in the project were displayed, none of the quicktime movie frames were include. I figured maybe itunes didn't like the quicktime frames so I exported the project as a quicktime movie and the original quicktime frames still did not display.
I'm new to mac so I really stumped as to what I could be doing wrong. I was simply trying to create a screencast so I used snapz to create the original quicktime movie, could that be it?
    Please help!

Yes. There are many posts here on this issue, but it is not always obvious how to search for them. Snapz by default uses the Animation codec, which in iMovie exports as a black screen. The solution is to 1) convert your clip to a supported codec, and 2) for future clips created in SnapzProZ, use a supported codec like h.264, AIC, etc.
For posts by the experts on this topic, do a search on "Animation Codec" in this forum.

  • Quicktime – quality issue with uncompressed export

    Hi
Not sure if anyone can help with this one.
I'm trying to export a Quicktime video in uncompressed 4.2.2 format from Flash. In quality terms this works perfectly from Flash 8 as I just select the uncompressed option, put the quality slider to best and the result is super sharp. Problem is I have movie clips placed in my movie and they don't render. I upgrade to Flash CS4 which solves the latter issue but it won't let me set quality to best when exporting for Quicktime in uncompressed 4.2.2 format. It defaults to medium quality and the resulting video is slightly blurred. How do I get back control of the quality when exporting uncompressed?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I too have been using the code supplied on the apple quicktime forums, and the same results have occured video is converted but no audio. I also have a mac mini running quicktime 7 and have used the exact java code and it works with audio.
If you try to convert the audio portion of a movie on windows to say AAC audio only, you'll get another error saying that the track is invalid. Yet on mac mini same files and code produces the file perfectly.
My Windows Platform is WindowsXP running Quicktime 6.5.2 and JDK 1.4.2
Mac Mini is Mac OSX Tiger, Quicktime 7.0.1 and JDK 1.4.2
I eagerly await Quicktime 7 for Windows, maybe it will work then.

  • Dropped frames issue on a G5 2.7DP w/DV footage

Let me first tell you my setup:
    G5 2.7 DP
    8 GB RAM
WiebeTech TrayDock eSATA 4-bay drive enclosure w/Sonnet 4+4 eSATA PCI Card
    (2) 400 GB Seagate Barracudas in the enclosure RAIDed in a striped config using Apple's Disk Utility
    10.4
    FCP 5
At seemingly random times, playback from the timeline will stutter and stop, thus throwing up the dropped frames dialog box. If I re-play from the same point, it will normally play. This has happened on several current projects in which I'm working in DV. I've also worked on a project in 8bit uncompressed using my Kona LS card with the same drives, and had the same error.
I've had this issue ever since I setup this system--from the first install of FCP5 to the most recent update of 5.0.3, as well as from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3. I've tried turning off the internal Airport card in the G5, and quitting all other programs.
There is a little utility that came with the Kona card to test data rate of your drives. I'm getting well over 100 MB/s Read, and slightly less write rates, so it seems like drive speed isn't an issue.
What is the weak link here? WiebeTech was nice enough to send me a replacement eSATA PCI card, and the issue hasn't gone away, so it wasn't a bad card, although I guess there could be some flaw inherent in all of the cards.
What other steps should I take to try and isolate/solve this problem? This is kind of embarrasing that I can't play DV footage on the timeline without the possibility of dropping frames--even when working with only one layer of video.
I'm capturing video to the eSATA RAID, and my project files/graphics reside on an internal SATA drive in G5 (not the boot drive--I added another seagate 250 gb). Seems like there should be enough throughput in this thing to handle basic edits, but I'm beginning to have my doubts....
    Your ideas?????

    Clay,
Regarding your statement "My thinking initially about my workflow was to not keep them on the same drive as the footage because my feeling is that the RAID isn't as "safe" as the single 250 GB drive I have inside the G5".
I store all of my media, GFX and project files on whatever FW drive I happen to be using for a project. I NEVER have media for a specific project on two or more drives. For safety's sake, I ALWAYS have my Autosave Vault set to my internal drive, with a relatively high save rate (every 10 min). That way if the FW drive ever failed completely, I'd at least have a recent copy of the project file to work with (even if I have to redigitize the footage or redo the GFX). All I can say is keep all of your media (per project) on one drive - it's been kind of the Bible in this industry for years, and as far as I know it hasn't changed.
As far as RAID's go, I'm no expert. But if I remember correctly, back in my old Avid days we also used to avoid having the media on different striped partitions - something else you may want to try if you're media is spread across a few stripes.
It seems like I've run across more than a few posts here regarding the same problem happening on Dual 2.7's. You may want to do a more thorough search here to see what you come up with. All I can say is I'm running FCP 5.0.3 on a G5 Dual 2.0 with only 2.5 meg of RAM and have had no dropped frame issues.
Try Matt's suggestion of playing some footage off of your boot drive (NOT recommended for everyday use!). If it works then it's got to be a problem with your RAID and not FCP.
    Good Luck!

  • How to overcome "dropped frame" issues on my project

    Hey reader,
I have a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz with 250GB hd (85GB free just now) running 10.4.11, FCE HD 3.5 (and QT 7.5.5) and using a Sony Handycam DCR-HC96 (which is works BEAUTIFULLY with iMovie 08 and 6 and is always used with Sony tapes) and I am not able to "capture" the tape content to my MacBook Pro because of the "dropped frame" issue.
The camera is connected to the external hard drive chain via Firewire cable to the MacBook Pro and I was trying to capture to the internal hard drive. I am in the UK and am still struggling to get my head around the different frame rates but initially I got the dreaded "dropped frames were encountered during the last capture attempt" and it just wouldn't work, so I unselected the report dropped frames tab and abort capture in User Preferences as was suggested on here.
Now I get "Capture encountered a problem reading data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved" but the tape is fine (heads are also clean) as I had to (under time pressure, me) use iMovieHD 6 instead and it worked like a CHARM.
What can I do to use this software?
I KNOW I can import the iMovie footage but the disadvantage is the eternal rendering, I guess. I only ever used it once (because of its difficulties) and that was for pre-existing footage from iMovie and it was OK if not perfect. Just had to have a few hours extra for the constant rendering in preview...
Should I try to capture to one of the external hard drives? I read that the internal might be a problem as it is busy with the operating system jobs.
    Please and thank you.

I got some dropped frames last night and posted this before noticing your post:
There can be a number of reasons for getting dropped frames during capture.
Yesterday I videoed a relative's wedding (in HDV) and on getting home late I captured the footage into FCP 6.0.3 only to find in a couple of places I got an abort on dropped frames.
This morning I decided to recapture and did so without a single dropped frame.
Why ? ......... there are several possibilities.
It could be that there was some physical problem with the tape or camera heads but I believe it was most likely caused by my camera's power supply.
Last night I used the battery whilst this morning I plugged in the power connector.
I feel that this provided a more constant supply of full power and helped prevent frames from being dropped. (The fact I was using FCP is immaterial as the dropped frames would almost certainly have also occurred in FCE).
From now on I will always use the power connector during transfer to and from the camera.

  • How to export a flash project with a changing frame rate to a video

I have a Flash project that is a series of roughly 1000 images.  The result of the images is a simple animation, and there is music imported on a separate layer.
There are moments in the music that I wanted to line up with certain frame changes, and there are sections of the music that I wanted to match up with a faster (double-time) frame rate.
I used this code in several places in the a code layer:
    stage.frameRate = x;
The result is exactly what I want in SWF -- the animation speeds up and slows down at the exact right moments to match up with the music track, but it seems like it's just not possible to export this variable frame rate project to a video file?
According to the accepted answer on this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4019538, it seems that:
The export function in Flash Pro doesn't transcribe *frames*, rather it plays the Flash animation and records it like a camcorder
If that's true, then I would think there is a way to record a variable frame rate project into a video -- does anybody know if this is possible?

That or Premiere would both get the job done. After Effects might be more desirable as it has a feature called Time Remapping (right-click on the video layer, Time->Enable Time Remapping). You can add keyframes to any point in a video and then drag them around to speed up or slow down the video. That'll allow for very precise tweaks.
Finally all I'd suggest is when you jump into your next project, make a quick dummy test project to see if the software you're using is easily capable of producing what you want. It'll solve the headache of completing the project only to land where you are now. Now you know Flash won't play nicely with scripts and Export Movie. If your desired end result was always a video I'd probably use video editing software to make the video. There's some free stuff out there if you really look, but no, it won't be as nice as After Effects or Premiere by any stretch. Although when you see how amazing After Effects is, you'll probably want to buy it .

  • Flash 7 vs 10 - hang/unload issue in IE6

    Hi-
First off, thanks for taking a look at this. Any information you may have is appreciated.
The situation I'm running into could probably be a problem with any of several different variables. I'll try to explain as simply as I can.
Basically, our company makes tests. The tests are loaded locally onto a computer, but the test program runs through Internet Explorer 6. Each question has an swf that goes along with it. Some have one or more still pictures (.psd's), some have one or more video clips (.flv's), some have a mix of both. The media is imported and embedded into fla's we keep and use as templates to process the other media. All have some zoom and drag functionality as well as playback options built in using ActionScript, which is why we're not just using jpg's and wmv's.
The issue we're running into it that all our material works fine when it's published in Flash 7 and the computer has Flash Player 7 installed. Navigating between questions goes smoothly and there has never been a problem. We've been running quality control (QC) on using Flash Player 10 with both Flash 7 content and Flash 10 content to make sure that it transitions smoothly, but we've been running into problems with IE lagging between questions, occasionally freezing, and occasionally seeming like it has not unloaded the swf from the previous question. Changing the browser cache setting "check for newer versions of stored pages:" from "Automatically" to to "Every visit to the page" seems to fix the problem, however, changing that setting is not an option at the test centers where the tests are given.
So, the questions I have are:
    1. Is anyone aware of problems with Flash Player 10 that would cause issues like this?
    2. Is there a way to work around these problems either through Publish Settings or ActionScript?
If anyone has any ideas, we'd be happy to hear them. Thanks so much for your help!
    -Geoff

Sorry but your problem can't solve in this forum. I have no idea how ARALOC viewer implmented to recognize Flash Player as browser plugin at all.
ARALOC viewer is not browser that Adobe support directly and officially. So If you have a problem with that viewer, you have to solve with the compnay who own that viewer. If there is a problem in Flash Player side, we can listen to the author of that software.

  • Flash Pro CC to CS6 fla issue - Bad library items and new library items with unicode names

I've noticed a strange issue when opening fla files in Flash Pro CS6 that have been edited in Flash Pro CC. If there are library items in the fla with names that include symbols such as ">" or ".", unicode named symbols are created and the original symobls are unuseable. There are many symbols that cause the issue and the symbols just have to be a part of the name.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Create an fla file in Flash Pro CC.
    2) Add a single movieclip to the library with a symbol name of ">".
    3) Save the file.
    4) Open the file in Flash Pro CS6.
    Results:
Library contains 2 symbols, one named ">" and one named "&#062".
    Expected:
There's one library symbol named ">".
After that double clicking the symbol named ">" will do nothing and instances of the symbol will have all their content removed.
This issue is breaking a JSFL script I wrote that loops the library items. When the script attempts to access item.layerCount the script errors out. My team is blocked from using Flash Pro CC in combination with Flash Pro CS6 because of this issue. The only good solution I can think of is to all switch to CC at the same time to avoid converting our fla files to CS6 from CC.
Any info on a fix for this issue would be appreciated.

The dialog you get when you open the FLA in CS6 is that new features may not be available in CS6 so you should save it to a new file to avoid corruption. There's no "save down" from CC to CS6 (yet). So opening the file in CS6 isn't advisable in the first place.
That said, library items are supported between them both so to your point, yes, I get the same exact behavior. A single symbol named ">" in CC produces 2 library items in CS6 named ">" and "&#062", and the original item is lost. Although I'm not sure where I'd classify this issue being you shouldn't be opening a newer version file from an older version of the application. I did also try XFL, same issue. If they decide to create a save-down to CS6 and this still exists, I'd consider it a bug.
As for a fix, I think about the only thing that comes to mind is identify the characters causing issues and run a JSFL in CC to rename the library item temporarily to something you know will work fine. Then once back in CS6, run the JSFL opposite to convert them back to what you want. e.g. "this > that" to "this XYZ that" in CC, then "this XYZ that" to "this > that" in CS6. Shouldn't be too hard to map as long as the replacement is unique.

  • Official comment from Apple about the drop frame issue?

Is Apple going to firmware fix the skipping drop frame issue on the Apple tv?
    Or is it hardware related?
Too many of us seem to have experienced this issue for it not to be addressed.
It shouldn't be difficult to fix.
My 1st gen atv was fine.
    I should have kept it.

Hopefully it can be fixed. Seeing as Apple has not even acknowledged it I returned mine yesterday since I was coming up on my 30 day return deadline. At least this way I'm not stuck with a device that has a hardware issue.
As of yesterday I have seen this issue on 10 different New Apple TV units, all on different HD sets, different network setups etc. Half of the owners had never noticed it. Two of those were adamant they did not have the problem and one of those still insisted they didn't after I spotted it multiple times. So while the issue has been present on 100% of the units I have seen, its not necessarily noticeable to everyone. I have noticed its much easier to spot on larger displays and when the display quality itself is higher, for example easier to spot on a higher quality 61" 1080p set than a lower quality 720p 26".
If you have the option I would return the unit. Worse case is your don't have the unit, which is not functioning 1005 anyway, for a short period and then grab it again if the issues get addressed.

  • Potential workaround for green frame issue

    Hi,
We are sorry for the the inconvenience caused by green frame issue on some laptop models.
To work around the issue that some users are experiencing in the 1.6 version on specific machines, current suggestions is to add 3 more lines above the last two lines of shared.xml that is located in the C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.SkypeApp_kzf8qxf38zg5c\LocalState
Note: Make sure Skype is closed (press ALT+F4 with the Skype app open) while you are modifying shared.xml file and make sure you save the changes in the file before starting Skype again.
Also if you don't see AppData folder in C:\Users\your_username go to View tab and check Hidden items checkbox.
    </Lib>
    </config>
    should be replaced with
    <Video>
    <EnableWideSupport>0</EnableWideSupport>
    </Video>
    </Lib>
    </config>
Please try this and post if it solved your issue.
    Thank you in advance

In addition to the above fix, we would be grateful if you were experiencing green video that you help us by doing this:
Please go to Search, type dxdiag and run dxdiag.exe, go to Save All information and send generated DxDiag.txt file to kmudrovcic at hotmail.com.

  • 720p60 P2/HD Dropped Frame Issue

I'm having a dropped frame issue in FCP with some P2 720-60p footage. I can't get it to play through a sequence without freezing and giving me a warning. We've narrowed it down to an apparent processor issue. There are two tracks of audio (a stereo pair), and two tracks of music (again, a stereo pair). When we turn off the music, the sequence plays fine. But when the music goes back on, the sequence chokes. The funny thing is, I just did an HD project shot in 24p/n with several tracks of audio and several tracks of video and, aside from needing to render certain things, it played fine.
    Any ideas?
    Here are the specs:
    P2 footage originated in 720/60p
    AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS:
    Sequence Preset: DVCPro HD 720p60
Video Playback: None (there isn't an output card for this computer).
    SEQUENCE SETINGS:

Then it's pointing at a throughput problem between the RAID and the server I'll guess. Trouble shooting that could be interesting. Can you move the media to a local drive?
I'd also be interested to see what AJA's read/write speeds are on that RAID from your station...
Post the gear between your mac and the server etc.. whose RAID is it, How is it formatted? Got a model number of each of the devices involved? Mac Server?
    Jerry
You've selected the "Easy setup" for the format you're editing too, right?

  • Rotated image/frame issue

I'm using Frame 8 and Acrobat 3D 8 and having issues with rotated images or frames. When printing to paper, the graphics are fine, but if I print to PDF, the top of the image is cropped. Text lines are visible but the top inch of the imported graphic is not. I wonder if this is a setting in Acrobat or a Frame issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    > I have tried using jpg
Jpeg is a particularly bad format for screen captures. Tiff would be
better; I don't know enough about png. Ages ago, in a much earlier
version, I had trouble with large bitmaps printing properly in Frame
(not exactly the same problem - they were printing fine for about 3/4 of
the page and then it printed all "bunched up" and the bottom 1/4 didn't
print). I started using EPS (bitmap eps, saved from Photoshop). This not
only solved the problem, it had the added benefit of displaying much
faster (because the eps files had only a low-res preview, so Frame
didn't hesitate on each graphic to read in the whole file).
I'd be happy to look at one of your pngs, see if it works here, but I'm
on Frame 7 (just ordered Frame 9), so I'm not sure if my results would
be relevant. Zip and send to kbenson at pegtype dot com

  • Flash and Quicktime - Flutter Issue

I have some animated flash buttons in a little Flash swf
movie I imported in one scene. I link to a quicktime movie which is
in another scene. If they overlap in coordinates, even though in
different scenes, I intermitantly get a flutter while playing the
    quicktime movie.
The flash sprite is no longer on the stage - what do I need
to do to stop the flutter?

    Thanks for the input.
I used member.unLoad() and that seemed to help quite a bit
but after trying for a while going back and forth between scenes to
see the flickering/fluttering intermitantly - then it would go away
again - and I could not duplicate it.
Anything else you can think of to try? Or is there a good
detailed reference/description of how some of the renderings get
generated with flash - about all I know is it happens 'off stage'.
I greatly prefer the Quicktime DTS as it runs much better -
no flutter/flicker when not DTS but not acceptible quality.
Does the flash player try to optimize the screen updates
somehow by marking areas as dirty and remembering/bufering
larger/previous areas? There are some flash controls on the same
page as the video I am runing so I can't completely unLoad() flash
    - not that I know how to force that anyway.
    Thanks again.

  • Flash MX, Publish as Quicktime error.

Some one please help me, I wanna cry so much!
I have Flash MX and Quicktime 7. All I want to do is publish my movie as quicktime. But when I do I get the error message, "The installed version of QuickTime does not have a handler for this type of Macromedia Flash movie". So... after a little digging I found out its a issue with flash 6, and changed the flash version to 5! But It still wont work! What on earth am i doing wrong?
    Thanks.

Grr everyone else has been telling me Flash 5 for that!  Thanks!
Although ive just tried it, and I keep getting the error:
"Scene=Sc1, Layer=Script, Frame=207: Line 1: You must export your movie as Flash 5 to use this action.
    _root.gotoAndPlay("LL2");"
Im guessing my actionscript isnt valid for flash 4. Any thoughts on what the correct script would be?
    Thanks!

  • Random Flashing Color Bars within Quicktime Files during RAM Preview Only

I have been getting random color bar flashes within quicktime files in AE CC during RAM previews using Multi Processor rendering. Files other than .mov seem to not have this issue (although I have seen it twice...though it may be due to quicktimes in the comp). The rendered output using MP rendering is completely fine. If I turn off MP rendering the ram preview is fine. The source material is coming off a RAID 5 at 600-800MBs, I have moved the footage to a local SSD and a standard spindle drive with the same results. I have tried everything.....disabling GPUS in preview, disabling Fast Adaptive Preview, Disabling Disk Cache, Adjusting MP settings and RAM usage per core, disabling hardware accelleration of interface, adjusting gpu memory useage, every codec under the quicktime wrapper including uncompressed codecs, updating Blackmagic drivers, updating quicktime, limiting how many processors Windows 7 64bit can see, resetting AE preferences. I even installed After Effects clean on my second boot drive for gaming with no plugins or other apps, same issues. Have discussed this heavily with tech support at Adobe and they are working on it for a few days before getting back to me. When I got off the phone the tech was of the mind that I have too many cores for the Quicktime codec to handle.
    My system :
    Windows 7 64bit
Dual Xeon E5-2687W: 16 Physical cores and 32 cores with Hyperthreading
    32GB 1866 DDR3
    3xNvidia GTX 680 4GB cards
SSD boot and seperate SSD media cache drives
8TB internal SAS RAID 5 using a ATTO card
    Blackmagic Deckline Extreme 3D+ card
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as this is a huge boon to my workflow. Having purchased a $12K system for grading and rendering....not being able to use the ram preview in AE with multiple cores is a huge inconvenience.

Here is the requested taskmanager screenshot. As my test comp only has a single duplicated quicktime in it, it renders too fast to really catch the AE instances doing anything. So this is from a heavier comp. Settings are as pictured above with 3GB per core using 8 total cores of the 32. It did flash the bars.
Here is what I tried tonight:
    - Followed the link on Quicktime having trouble with too many processors. Using MSCONFIG I dropped the recognized Processors to 21, 16, and 8 and tested all three settings. Each had the flashing bars issue. Again as usual, at random, sometimes 3 previews before showing up, sometimes the first preview run. I have noticed that the ram previews that take a little longer seem to be clean. Then sometimes it seems to fly through the preview, grabbing large chunks on the green progres bar above the timeline, or many little chunks very quickly....these are usually the preview runs that will show the flashing bars. I make a point of purging the cach between each one so it doesn't remember, plus I have disk media cache off, but sometimes I get the feeling it's remembering bits.
    - I removed all the Quicktime Components from the QTComponents folder and tested it. Flashed the very first run without any quicktime components.
    - Followed the Firewall or TCP instructions and made sure everything was allowed through ZoneAlarm. However I could not find the QT32 Server listed anywhere or figure out how to add it. No matter because I closed and force quit all of the firewall processes as well to make sure. Still flashed.
    - I followed all the advice on the landing page for Quicktime-related problems
    - I also tested out ram previews again thourougly with the same clip but converted to a Tiff sequence. No matter what I tried there was never any flashing in the ram preview with tiffs.
    - I also re-tested the clean render output. Made a ram preview with the flashing bars, then without purging rendered it out to a quicktime file and there were no bars at all in the rendered output. I even tried duplicating this render output 6 times in the render queue and rendered them all at once. Not a single one had a flashing bar frame. I even played all 6 1080P uncompressed 4.2.2 YUV 10bit pieces off the RAID with no dropped frames or hichups.
    - Killed every process in the taskmanager but for essential windows processes and the flashing bars were still present
    - Set the priority to Real-time for every AE process including Adobe QT32 Server, Dynamiclinkmanager, and all the AE processes. Still flashed.
I am now considering disabling two of my GPUs in the device manager. However I'm a bit worried about disabling the wrong one and being locked out. Any thoughts? Is the computer to powerful for some process somewhere? Why only in RAM preview? Thanks again.
