Flash CS3 crashes whenever creating or opening file

Hello,
I am running on Windows XP Flash CS3 professional. I was working on a project and using the text tool to add some text to the project... when I went to paste the content into the text box, the focus went to the font face selection text box and the Flash program crashed.
Now it continues to crash whenever I try to open an existing FLA or create a new file. I restarted the PC several times and this issue continues.
Here is the Application error report from the Event Viewer under Computer Management
Faulting application flash.exe, version 9.0.0.494, faulting module flash.exe, version 9.0.0.494, fault address 0x004ee526.
My next step is to reinstall....hopefully I will not need to do that.
thank you,
Tim

  • Flash cs6 crashes upon New or Open file

    Hello
I used Flash CS6 just fine this morning. Mainly sketching of a character using the Pencil tool and an Intuos 4. Tonight, I opened my file to continue working, but Flash crashes on opening (actually it hangs). Also I try to create a new file, hangs. If I don't click anything, it responds normally.
I tried cleanup of my fonts. Nothing.
I searched for fontinfo.txt. Nothing (just a missfont.map which is created every time flash starts up)
I deleted my prefs via the CTRLALTSHIFT. Nothing.
    Reinstalled, nothing.
    So what now?

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when minimized and opening files

If I try to open a new file by double-clicking while InDesign is minimized, it "disappears" - drops off the taskbar, doesn't show up under Applications in Task Manager, but still shows under Processes. I have to End Process and restart the application... any suggestions on why this is happening? I'm running XP.

Read through the prior threads Peter posted. I see no solution offered. I
too have had this problem on two separate workstations from the day ID CS3
was installed. Intermitant, but it can be made to happen quite easily. I
have never had a problem with printing, just opening multiple files through
    explorer.
I spend hours on the phone with Adobe tech support and they also could not
resolve the issue. Tried everything under the sun, including activating only
the bare minimum fonts required by the systems, creating new XP user
accounts, reinstalling the suite, deleting prefs, washing some files through
INX, defrag, turning off all processes other than ID... nada... still
problems. They gave up. So did I. Just living with it waiting for the next
    update.
If someone has a fix for this, I'm all ears.

  • CS3 crashes, every time I open it

Flash cs3 crashes on me every time I open it. Sometimes I can open a file before it crashes and sometimes it crashes even if it's just the software that's open.
The message I get is the generic Windows "Flash has closed unexpectedly would you like to send an error report, sorry for the inconvenience"...
It makes it hard to get any work done when the software won't run properly.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

You could try re-installing the software - ...or you could try calling tech support and wait on hold for an hour or two before someone from another part of the world tries to walk you through a couple more hours of frustration before telling you they've tried everything they know - "maybe it's your computer"...
Sorry if I sound synical, but I just spent $1800 on a full e-Learning suite that won't load, and I've spent two full days back and forth and on hold with Adobe's so-called support to no avail - and now it "must be my computer causing a conflict..."
So... "I could try re-installing the Operating System and wiping the computer clean" (and re-installing ALL of my previous softwares), and that might help...
Good luck with your issue... At least they "apologize for the inconvenience" when it crashes...

  • Flash CS3 crashing after Mac 10.5.7 Update

Ever since I updated to 10.5.7 Flash CS3 crashes a lot! I could be doing anything and it just crashes. It happens every hour or so, it's weird. Has there been any reported issues of this? Can anybody assist me in maybe how to fix this?

I have been using an external CSS file simply for defining font styles
site wide. The rendering of them on screen in layout view is now just
the plain default font prior to showing the CSS altered version of it.
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. You mean it shows your text in the default and *then* renders it correctly using the CSS after a delay?
I tried torching the prefs...perhaps I did the wrong file...what file is to be deleted?
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe GoLive 9.0 Prefs
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/GoLive/Settings9 (a folder)
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.Adobe.GoLive.plist
Move them out to, say, the Desktop. If they are not the cause of the problem, put them back replacing the newly-created versions.
I cloned my os prior to the update and all was fine. Rebooting to clone
css renders normal...but in 10.5.7 its not rendering in layout view.
I'm not seeing the same thing here with GL9/OS X 10.5.7, so it may be its something specific to your particular update. You might also want to consider doing a re-import of the site to recreate the site file and see if that helps.

  • Flash CS3 Crashes with Dual Monitors

Flash CS3 crashes when I have the actions panel open on my
secondary monitor and I close Flash. I have to actual move the
action script panel to the primary monitor or close it completely.
The same thing happens if I try to save my project space with the
    actions panel open.
The other issue I have found is that when I open Flash up
again, despite the fact that I have saved my work space profile,
the pallets all appear on my primary monitor and not the secondary
one. Didn't re amend this issue back in Flash 5 or 6?

OK the problem isn't the DUAL Monitors, but rather having a
custom workspace open while trying to close Flash. I have to change
the workspace back to Default or it will not close at all. Any
    ideas.

  • Flash CS3 Crashes on New File

Adobe's Flash CS3 installs fine with no problems, and the
program runs (ie: It opens up without any visible problems.) But
when I go to try and create a new file to begin a project the
program crashes. The error window reads:
Flash.exe Application Error -- The instruction at
"0x042c6b6d" referenced memory at "0x0000000d". The memory could
    not be "read".
I've tried uninstalling the application and reinstalling it,
but that didn't help either. I'm quite stumped and don't know what
else to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I also just tried to see if I could get by with using
Macromedia Flash 8; and the same thing happens when I try to open a
    new file.
Tips? Tricks? ... This is irritating. I need to get a working
Flash program going for my Flash class ASAP.
    Thanks!

    In other news, all other Adobe products I use work just fine;
but that's only Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator.
It just seems to be Flash that is having problems. Does anyone know
of any other programs that work like Flash and do pretty much the
same thing? Make the same kind of files that Flash can open/edit?
Has anyone else had the same issue I'm having? (In the first
    post.)

  • InDesign CS3 crashes without error when opening any 2nd InDesign file

Issue: InDesign CS3 crashes without error and remains resident in memory if we have an InDesign file open and attempt to open a second InDesign file.
    OS: Win XP SP2
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Hardware: Dell Precision WorkStation T3400, 4 gigabytes of memory, Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600
Details: No messages in the event viewer about the problem. We renamed the InDesign Defaults and the InDesign Saved Data file. We removed Creative Suite, restarted and then reinstalled Creative Suite (I could not remove and reinstall InDesign individually). We have created a new Windows profile for this user. I have one computer having the trouble. Other InDesign installations are working fine. This computer has 559 files in C:\windows\fonts. Other people that are not having the problem have a larger number of fonts installed.
The issue is not file specific. We are not running out of memory as I checked the task manager after the first InDesign document is open.
Why is opening a second document different than opening the first document?

    Hello Peter and Josh,
I'd just like to assert that I am having the exact same problem as Josh. I've spent the time to go through the steps listed above and have found the same results.
The issue as we see it multiple times daily is as follows:
    (1) User opens File1 (everything works fine)
    (2) User goes to open File2 (via explorer or via file->open) or print File1
    (3) The User Interface for ID disappears (InDesign.exe still appears in Task Manager and is NOT listed as "Not Responding", ID does not appear in the Task Bar)
    (4) The only way to continue work is to End Task/End Process InDesign.exe and relaunch.
No error messages appear, no error logs are created(that I can find). Non-related concerns caused us to upgrade this users PC. With a completely new install we are still having the problems. The systems are listed as follows:
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Newest Hardware: Custom Built Computer, 4GB RAM installed (3.24 recognized by windows), Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Older Hardware: Custom Built Computer, Intel D945GTP Motherboard, 2GB RAM installed, Intel Pentium D processor @ 2.8Ghz
    Troubleshooting:
    (1) Alt+Space and M then using arrow keys moves every other window the user had opened other than In-Design. The user has two monitors. (a) 1280x1024 and (b) 1200x1600 (yes she uses the monitor rotated 90 degrees
    (2) Log files - Non exist in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 folder. I've also done a search across the entire hard drive for any "*.log" files, none of which were adobe related.
    (3) Default Printer - Changing the default printer to Adobe PDF is not really an option. I was able to convince the user to temporarily switch to a different networked printer and await the results (most likely today or tomorrow it should recreate)
    (4) /3GB switch - Getting that last 700 something MB of memory isn't an issue. I've run MemTest.exe on all the available system memory overnight in a "burn in" test. The system ran fine the sticks were nice and warm when I got in from all the hard work :)
    (5) Order of Opening - The problem repeates regardless of order. The trick seems to be opening File2 or printing File1 (I had the user only work on one file at a time (required her to close any open files before opening the next, that wasn't fun for my user but the system didn't crash on opening in this scenario, just on printing. Obviously not a permanent work around)
Any help here would be much appreciated as this has been plaguing us for months now.

  • Flash CS3 crashing with copy/paste between 2 files

    Hi.
I am a flash games developer, and I am currently working on a game that is truly massive.
The main file size is over 250MB.
It's been a work in progress for about 4 months of solid work.
Due to the size of the file, I prefer to create things like characters and objects in another file. I then need to import it over, replacing old movieclips.
When copying and pasting now, it always crashes, or tells me that its run out of virtual memory.
It appears to be impossible to get it all over, even bit by bit.
I've saved and compacted, I've saved as, I've moved it onto another disk drive.
All of the above seemed to help temporarily, but I'm now at a stage where nothing is working.
I don't think the file is corrupted in anyway. I've had no problems with any other component of flash. Just the copying.
I just don't understand what's so intensive about moving over an object of about 10-20 mb.
My computer is quite high performance, 5.6ghz, 4gb of ram.
I've asked for help on so many forums now, and all i get is criticism at my file size. Well it can't be helped. It's a massive game.
I've tried using a runtime shared library, but unfortunately it doesn't allow attachmovie to get it from the library. It seems the identifier is only being used to connect the 2 libraries when you set up a runtime shared library.
attachmovie is very important to the code and it can't be done any other way.
    Please please help.
I'm at a point where I need those movieclips in the main file...

    Hello Michelle,
Ok, So I was getting frustrated so I copied the file I was
working on onto a thumb drive. Just for the heck of it I tried
opening and running it from the thumb drive and for some reason it
works! I really can't figure out why though. Same computer and
everything but if I just read straight from the USB key it works
completely fine. I'm really confused with this problem now. I also
am getting the same crashing error when I open certain files from a
    certain folder.
I'm running XP. I refuse to update to Vista :)
but it seems that we are having the same problem despite the
different Operating systems. So this is a very interesting
    problem...
Any one else have any help tips for us?

  • CS3 crashes whenever opening old docs where it can't find font

Illustrator CS3 crashes every time I try to open a document that has fonts in it that are no longer on my computer. I need to work on those files. What could be the solution?

You might try cleaning your font caches. Linotype's Font Explorer is free and will do that for you (as well as manage your fonts, if you choose to let it. I'm sure there are other apps that just clean font caches if that's what you prefer) Shut down all Adobe stuff and from the "tools" menu in FontExplorer, "clean application font caches" and "clean system font caches"

  • Photoshop cs3 crashes when trying to open any file

When I purchased CS3 Web Premium it took several months of tooling around to get it to install on Vista HP. Photoshop cs3 worked fine for a few months after installation. It now refuses to open any files - just goes to an eternal spinning icon. When I try to shut it down, it just says not responding. I reinstalled once (takes hours) and it worked for an afternoon. Next morning back to not opening files.
Macine is dell xps M1210, 2Gb Ram, Core 2 T5600 processor, NVIDIA Go 7400 64Mb card.
    Help.

    Problem (hopefully) solved!
file>open has always been available, but when i select a file and open it is when it hangs. Hitting esc then has no effect.
Tried the reset preferences - still no change.
A friend suggested delete all network printers and voila - it worked! Still keeping fingers and toes crossed every time I use pshop, a little annoying that I have to send files to another machine to print (fortunately I rarely need to print files), and input devices hard to use with everything crossed.
    Thanks for suggestions Dave.

    Troubleshooting
is often like a detective story: the more clues one has to
    work with, the
more confidently one can begin the chase.
Well, my problem is that the cs3 starting to crash doesn't
really have an explanation for me. but I will put details here.
    > I run vista business 32 bit
    > I didn't have problems until today,using flash cs3 for
    the last
    > month
    I don't have CS3 installed on Vista, so I'm afraid I can't
    provide any
offhand suggestions. Since you haven't seen problems until
    today, the first
thing that strikes me is: what happened with today's FLA that
    was different
from your previous efforts? Did you import an unusual
    external asset (even
if only unsual for you)? Maybe you imported a corrupted JPG
    or PNG. Maybe
    a bad font?
I did nothing with the fla that started the crash, I imported
some bitmaps and when trying to publish it, it crashed. Also, I
created another fla, imported some random jpgs 2 I believe, tried
to export it to the same folder, and cs3 crashed, saved the fla
with another name garbage.fla No fonts were used
    > Hint:
    > If I save the same .fla in another folder, flash cs3
    doesn't crash
    > when publishing. why? this looks that is happening in
    the root
    > of the folder
Believe me, I'd be asking these "why" questions myself in
    your shoes.
What you're describing doesn't sound like a well known issue,
    so my hunch is
that something is awry with this particular FLA file --
    something not likely
to be easily reproduced. Since you can publish when saving to
    another
folder, I would run with that workaround for the time being.
    After saving
to a different folder, try using File > Save and Compact,
    then move the FLA
back to your original folder and try again. Or ... try File
    > Save As from
the new folder, and save the copy into your original folder.
In your duplicate post, you mentioned starting a thread of
    your own
(this one) but not hearing any responses. Obviously, I can
    only speak for
myself in this reply, but it may be that you didn't get
    responses because
your question is on the vague side. It doesn't describe a
    common issue
(like, for example, "Why can't I mask dynamic text?" [answer,
    "Make sure to
    embed your font outlines"]).
When I read these forums, I tend to skim the subject lines
    looking for
descriptive summaries. Many people post questions like "How
    did they do
this?" or "Help!" or "Flash question" ... none of which
    describe meaningful
topics. In my opinion, your subject line is useful, because
    it briefly
summarizes your question. That's a good thing. When I read
    the actual body
of your post, though, I quickly realized there wasn't enough
    (for me, at
least) to give you a solid answer. In this case, I've tried
    to give you a
few pointers anyway, but I'm only hazarding a few "try this"
    type
    suggestions.
It may be that others who read your post felt equally unable
    to answer
your questions with confidence -- at least, as stated.
Well, I did some research on the internet and there is a
quite more few people having the same problem, here is the other
    forum I found:
    cs3
    flash crash when publishing
I am sorry that I didn't post any more specifications of what
I was doing, but what I was doing was not something different or
unusual of what I have been doing for the last week at least. I was
just working with dw and flash together importing the .swf into an
html and launching the html from dw.

  • Any version of Flash (cs3-cs5) will not publish my file..

    Hi all,
this is the first time i encounter this problem.. I had the problem where a file would not open correctly which was also addressed at this forum. But this one is different. this file was created (from what i remember) in Flash 8, then opened/saved in all possible flash versions for updates in time.
While it will open just fine, it will not publish. The publish window with the percentage will open up for a split second, then it will close with no messages whatsoever, no actionscript errors, nothing. F12, the same thing again. No possible settings could solve this. I am willing to send the file for testing of course, have tried to publish using Flash cs4 and Flash cs5. I thought of going back to Flash 8 by opening the file and saving to a previous version but as soon as i open the file in Flash cs3 (while the file has been saved as cs3) it will not open the file with an error message that i cannot remember right now.
So the problem might lie in how Flash cs3 saved the file, but it will open just fine in cs4 and cs5 so the file is not corrupt in any means..
    any ideas?
    George
p.s. I tried deleting EVERYTHING off the stage and the library and yet it wont publish.. tried copying all frames on another empty file, couldnt publish either...

  • Flash CS3 Crashes on Publish

Anyone else getting crashes with their Adobe apps in OS X
10.5.6? Illustrator CS3 just crashed on me when trying to open a
PDF and Flash is crashing on me, inconsistently, when I try to
publish. I can open the same file and publish sometimes, sometimes
    it crashes on publish.
    Anyone? Bueller? Thanks

You realize, of course, that the "you" referred to in your
post is not Adobe. This is a user-to-user forum. If you're unhappy
with Adobe policy, write to them directly. The likelihood of anyone
from Adobe with any influence reading this forum or this post is
    next to null.
That said, as a Flash user since 2000, I'm flabbergasted at
the attitude that Flash is somehow "perfect" upon release and no
bugs exist. I was hoping this policy would change when Adobe bought
Macromedia, since Adobe tends to release a few patches for each of
its major apps as bugs are uncovered.
But alas, no hope. I once cornered one of the leaders of the
Flash development team at an official Macromedia event a couple
years ago and brought this up. He replied that they "need to focus
all their resources on developing the next release." I had to
withhold myself from being really rude in response.
