Flash CS3/ Dreamweaver 8 integration

I bought CS2 right before it was packaged with Dreamweaver.
So I bought Dreamweaver 8 right before CS3 was announced. (yes,
there's a pattern here, I bought a new computer as a student right
before USB was announced, and a new Mac soon before the Intel chip
model was announced- I just don't have time to research!) I am
being laid off in September, but just picked up a one-class
teaching job at a community college, and they just installed CS3 in
the labs yesterday. My question is- if I buy Flash CS3 for my home
computer, will it work as seamlessly with Dreamweaver 8 as it would
with Dreamweaver CS3? TIA

You'll be fine. :) The only time the two applications ever
meet is
when you embed a SWF into an HTML page. That one pinpoint
hasn't especially
changed, so far as I can see -- though of course each
application on its own
has gained all sorts of new functionality.

  • Flash CS3 Issues ..?

    Hi - General question ii hope some cna help me with.
    Recently downed Flash CS3 - Dreamweaver and PS
    No issue on install - things i thought were going fine
    Comps got a fresh OS and updated drivers new - 2 gig of
    memory.
    i've been noticing little things like - when i save my fla -
    i updates other .fla's in the same folder - (not with the same
    name)
    I just built a CF and now - with no change to the swf - when
    i saved the .fla after a minor update - it changed all the other
    versions of .fla and the .swfs - all were empty - 1k swf and 1k
    .fla's after saving.
    when attempting to preview the fla's i had been using and is
    working fine on my site. Flash stated it had preformed and illigal
    something? and crashed and keeps crashing upon attempting a preview
    whethr browser or flash.
    I checked all code and code in the xml's js nad action
    scripts html etc etc - it was fine
    Now here is the kicker - my flash player ? seems to be
    missing over and over - i go to the adobe site - it shows it's not
    installed - i've installed it at least 8 damn times today. I dont'
    know if this is realated - but - it seems to be happening
    after deleting the 1k .swf's and fla files it produced
    I coped and pasted a back up copies of the .swfs and .fla's -
    which worked fine while in the back up folder - worked perfectly -
    till i opened it up the .fla in flash ( rechecking code to be sure
    i didn't miss something.
    Flash did it again, emptied or changed the back-up copy of
    the .swf and .fla down to .1k - empty nothing there. all i did was
    open it up?
    did a virus scan - a spy ware scan - nothing - didnt' think
    there would be - but better safe than sorry.
    These issues just really kicked in today - while i was
    working on a final .fla and considering some changes additions -
    going to experiment and get deeper into what i wanted to create.
    Till around 4pm today my .fla's and .swf Previewed fine and
    played fine - then just quit - and though it won't preview - i
    tested a export movie - the new .swf worked???
    any thoughts on the cause?
    Possible software conflict - maybe?
    but that wouldn't explain the Flash player not showing as
    installed on the adobe site or would it.
    I need to finish this fla soon, so i could use some help with
    this if any one has some suggestions as to what may be causing the
    issues.
    tia
    - c -

    thanx for the reply jdmajor -
    as mentioned - i scanned yesterday - first thing was a boot
    scan - memory scan - file scan - took 3 hrs to scan everything so
    many times - nothing popped up - well.....
    a Avast stated a cab file was corrupted on the boot scan -
    reinstalled Avast - re-updated signatures and Re-Boot scanned,
    memory scanned.
    Nothing showing as corrupted as far as viruses trojans worms
    etc
    did the usual maintanence - defrag - etc etc which
    maintanance is done nightly anyway.
    checked all updates for wares - nothing.
    drivers - nothing new.
    The flash player needing to be re-installed has been from the
    begining - lasts usually a couple days - then it shows as not being
    installed and i have to re-install it - now it's worse - yet
    thoughit shows not installed via the Flash Player page - it plays
    flash fine so i know it's installed.
    there are no hacked warz on the comp.
    Tried again last night - with some other back-up copies of
    the fla. -
    it keeps bring the 12k file to 1k and it refuses to work -
    now claiming it can't load the .xml file which is ...
    aaaarrggh! frustrating to say the least... lol up till 2:30am
    trying to fix it
    rebilt another mini file - worked fine - maybe there is
    something conflicting with paper vision.
    though there shouldn't be - i'm not re-writting the files.
    Just opening an existing previously working .fla file.
    I downed flash again last night - thought maybe a re-install
    of flash cs3
    - but...??? haven't done it yet
    tried debugging the script - nothing other than it keeps
    staing now that it can't load the .xml file
    checked pathways - a hundred times - they're correct.
    issue is somewhere... that's for sure.
    thanx for the suggestion
    i'll try a safemode scan - maybe it will reviel somthing
    though to be honest i hope not - not wishing for virus or worm I'd
    rather it be something else to be honest.
    Doesn't anyone come up with viruses and hacks that do good
    things ?
    lol theres a thought

  • Flash CS3 versus Dreamweaver CS3! Or Other??

    Dreamweaver and Flash are different, but complimentary, tools. They do different things.
    I would say that if you're not not familiar enough with Flash to judge how well it might work for you, then you're better off putting Flash to the side and worry about a tool like Dreamweaver for now.
    Dreamweaver has many competitors, but you're unlikely to find any to match it for production work. However, for iTunes U, the tough part is getting your transfer CGI working -- that is your biggest concern -- and neither Flash nor Dreamweaver is going to help you much in that department. Best to concentrate on getting the transfer CGI working, in my humble opinion. 'Course no harm in learning Dreamweaver while doing so.

  • Flash CS3 versus Dreamweaver CS3??

    I don't really think that learning Dreamweaver is easier then
    Flash. In the end, it's all up the everyone's personal abilities.
    Before you start building your web page, you should have a clear
    plan about what you are trying to create. Depending on that data,
    you will be able to choose between Flash or Dreamweaver. If you
    want an interactive web page with animations or simply with a more
    complex user interaction, then you'll be going for Flash ; on the
    other hand, if you just want something up an running, then you
    should go for Dreamweaver.
    PS: reagarding the "Flash is harder to learn then
    Dreamweaver", not really true. Why ? Because once you understand
    Flash and you start creating web pages, you won't have to worry
    about cross-platform compatibility. On the other hand, learning
    Dreamweaver will also imply learning, Javascript, CSS, PHP ( maybe
    not all three, but CSS is for sure ), and getting your site to look
    good on different browsers could easily end up in a huge waste of
    time and neurons... Both Flash and Dreamweaver have advantages and
    disadvantages, you must choose the one that suits your project the
    best. ;)

  • Integrating a little Flash in Dreamweaver

    Hello All,
    I am a newbie and just finished a Flash class. However we
    didn't hardly talk at all about integrating Flash with Dreamweaver.
    What I want to do is create an intro page that has Flash and
    then you have to click on a Button to go into the main site. I
    understand a little of Behaviors and Actionscripting so thought
    that I would do the GetURL Behavior (going off memory here) to get
    me from the Intro page to the main Dreamweaver site.
    Question is... do I export an SWF file, put that in a
    index.html page for the Intro page and then link to the main
    Dreamweaver site but have the main site not an "Index" file but
    another name...maybe main.html.
    Is this what people do? Or do they take the generated .html
    file from Flash (its published) and just use that as their intro.
    Naming it index.html. And then linking to another *.html created
    with Dreamweaver but that is not saved as index.html.
    Also, how often are people doing a PURE Flash website and not
    mixing the Flash and Dreamweaver together? Just curious.
    Thanks for clarifying.

    It's the new IE functionality (introduced in the April 2006
    patch update for
    IE6 and made compulsory by the June 2006 patch update) to
    comply with a
    ruling against Microsoft's patent infringement.
    It's triggered by the <object>, <embed> and
    <applet> tags on a page. Flash
    is normally imported into a page via the <embed> tag
    hence it's affected by
    the change. Content imported into a webpage by these methods
    is known as
    Active Content and now requires an extra click to activate it
    and interact
    with it.
    The workaround ultimately rests with website designers who
    are now advised
    by Microsoft and Adobe etc to implement the controls for
    Active Content in
    their sites indirectly via Javascript rather than direct HTML
    tags.
    If you have DW8, the 8.0.2 updater will insert Flash with
    Adobe's
    recommended Active Content fix already included in the code.
    With any other
    version of DW, you'll have to do it manually.

  • Inserting FLASH into Dreamweaver cs3

    I am trying to build a VERY basic website in Dreamweaver. Using their single fixed column, centered,template, i would like to ad 2 flash items, a menu and small movie, in to he top of the column. (Both flash items are larger than the column with, if that matters,i was going to resizxe them  nce  i  got  this part of the  cose  correct)
    For some reason the flash movie shows in my Dreamweaver preview, but not when i load it live online  @ www.srg-buffalo.com.
    The address i have used for the flash movie is: http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
    The website is hosted at www.swq-buffalo.com, if you want to check out the source code.
    I have no idea what I am doing wrong, i thought it was pretty simple, there is no flash block via my go daddy host.
    How i  inserted it  via dreamweaver  cs3:
    Insert> Media> Flash.
    URL= http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
    What am  i doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

    Thank you,
    That rung a  bell.
    I uploaded  both  saved .SWF documents to  the Scripts directory.
    There was also  a  Scripts dirrectory saved  with index.html,  in this directory was the  AC_RunActiveContent.js  file,any thoughts on that?
    i  uploaded it to  scripts,along witht he  others, and the space  dedicatd to the flash events is there, but they are not  showing.

    When you insert the SWF, you shouldn't have to actual type anything - it's a browse and select process and will automatically enter the correct path to the SWF. Then you have to upload the page and the SWF file. This next part I think has changed in later versions of DW, but in CS3 I'm pretty sure the process will also create a folder named Scripts. This folder along with it's contents also need to be uploaded.

  • Flash CS3 trial version - Dreamweaver 8 won't work anymore

    I recently installed the trial version of Flash CS3. It
    worked fine, but after the 30 day evaluation period, Dreamweaver 8,
    an app I've had installed for a few years now ceases to work. It
    loads up, then immediately crashes. Prior to that, both apps worked
    fine concurrently.
    I uninstalled the Flash CS3 trial version. Still, Dreamweaver
    8 crashes.
    I found the CS3Clean Script, ran that, and Dreamweaver 8
    still crashes.
    I'm positive this has something to do with the 30 day
    evaluation period, because I was using Dreamweaver fine yesterday.
    Any ideas on how I can fix this?
    I've tried re-installing Dreamweaver along with the 8.0.2
    update and still get the same results.
    I have Flash 8 installed already, if that helps.
    Thanks.

    This really depends on what exactly you want to do.
    To export Photos from iPhoto to the Finder just use the Export command: file -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
    has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    But this will not save you any disk space unless you also delete the photos from iPhoto.
    If you want to move the Library to a flash drive: first make sure it's big enough.
    Then make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the Flash Drive.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Integrating Flash CS3 with XML

    Hello, I done a tutorial from learnflash.com on Integrating
    Flash CS3 with XML, and I can't figure out why when the file is
    published the scrollbar component doesn't work.

    Yep, big difference. Flash CS3 is the earlier version of
    Flash, so you can't open CS4 files in CS3. You are probably
    confusing CS3 with AS3, which is supported by both versions of
    Flash CS#.

    Hmm... looks ok to me. You should be able to place it in a
    folder without
    problem. I'd try using SWFObject to put the Flash on the page
    though - that
    _might_ fix your problem. Odd one.

    OK, I have wiped the larger drive and done a complete reinstall of OSX (and updates) and reinstalled all applications on it, so I now have:
    Main Drive (OS and apps.): 465GB, with 430GB of free space
    2nd Drive (scratch disk): 149GB, with 66GB of free space
    RAM (I've added 2 more GBs): 5GB
    But the problem with Flash pausing when I go back to it from another application is exactly as it was before I upgraded anything.
    Is it possible this is a Finder problem? - as I also have a problem bringing up Finder by clicking on the desktop background if I am in another application - it just won't work, and I am forced to select Finder from the dock.
    Thanks.

  • Flash CS3 and Photoshop CS Integration

    Hello,
    I have a situation in my company were I may need to use
    Photoshop CS with Flash CS3. My question is can you import older CS
    photoshop document into the New Flash CS3 with similar results as
    Photoshop CS3. If so please let me know the pro's and con's of
    doing this.
    Thank You, Jacob

    No, PSE 3 and PS CS3 are totally different programs. Elements is a reduced version of photoshop for consumer use, with many of the pro features from photoshop simplified or left out.
    PSE 3 is quite an old version (it's up to PSE 8 now). You might want to check your local library for books on it. It's highly unlikely that you would find books on PSE 3 in stock in any bookstore, even in a large city, since it's five years old. You can still get a few books from amazon, I think.

  • Insert Flash with Dreamweaver CS3 Question

    So I have been building websites for awhile and have always relied on the built in insert flash object that came with dreamweaver as I have never had issues with it.
    However as I finished a site recently the client had a friend look at it and brought up the red flag that the site was not w3 compliant.  So I go and look at the little tool they have and the only error that comes up is related to the insertion of flash on the page.
    I googled it a bit and found a number of people saying that the insert flash through dreamweaver will no show up as compliant.  A couple solutions to fix the problem.
    But before I go down that road, I want to ask. ...Does it really matter here?  Seems like Dreamweaver insertion would be compliant? I mean come on the link that the w3 give to fix the problem is a link from a fix created in 2002.
    I have never heard of anyone saying no the flash does not show up so right off I am not terribly concerned but it would be nice to know..
    Also if it is important and suggestions as to a nice fix to the issue would be great.
    Thanks for your time,
    Chris

    Right you are!
    I tend to spot check pages and haven't done a W3C check on a flash embed in my websites (apparently). Just did one pursuant to your question. The page is 100% compliant without the Flash video. has 51 errors, 35 warnings with it. Lots of those errors are Adobe-generated Javascript that handles the flash video insert, skins it and so on.
    Here is where Adobe may not be compliant with the W3C.

  • AIR Intrinsic Classes-Tried and Proven Approach to building AIR applications   in the Flash CS3 IDE

    Hi everyone,
    For all of you out there who would like to develop AIR
    applications
    from the Flash CS3 IDE but aren't sure how to get those pesky
    intrinsic
    classes working, I have a technique that you can work with to
    create
    your classes and make fully functional AIR applications.
    First of all, those solutions out there that list
    "intrinsic" functions
    in their class definitions won't work. That keyword has been
    taken out
    and simply won't work. The "native" keyword also doesn't work
    because
    Flash will reject it. The solution is to do dynamic name
    resolution at
    runtime to get all the classes you need.
    Here's a sample class that returns references to the "File",
    "FileStream", and "FileMode" classes:
    package com.adobe{
    import flash.utils.*;
    import flash.display.*;
    public class AIR extends MovieClip {
    public static function get File():Class {
    try {
    var classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.File');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get File
    public static function get FileMode():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileMode');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileMode
    public static function get FileStream():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileStream');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileStream
    }//AIR class
    }//com.adobe package
    I've defined the package as com.adobe but you can call it
    whatever you
    like. You do, however, need to import "flash.utils.*" because
    this
    package contains the "getDefinitionByName" method. Here I'm
    also
    extending the MovieClip class so that I can use the extending
    class
    (shown next) as the main Document class in the Flash IDE.
    Again, this is
    entirely up to you. If you have another type of class that
    will extend
    this one, you can have this one extend Sprite, Math, or
    whatever else
    you need (or nothing if it's all the same to you).
    Now, in the extending class, the Document class of the FLA,
    here's the
    class that extends and uses it:
    package {
    import com.adobe.AIR;
    public class airtest extends AIR{
    public function airtest() {
    var field:TextField=new TextField();
    field.autoSize='left';
    this.addChild(field);
    field.text="Fileobject="+File;
    }//constructor
    }//airtest class
    }//package
    Here I'm just showing that the class actually exists but not
    doing much
    with it.
    If you run this in the Flash IDE, the text field will show
    "File
    object=null". This is because in the IDE, there really is no
    File
    object, it only exists when the SWF is running within the
    Integrated
    Runtime. However, when you run the SWF as an AIR application
    (using the
    adl.exe utility that comes with the SDK, for example), the
    text field
    will now show: "File object=[object File]". Using this
    reference, you
    can use all of the File methods directly (have a look here
    for all of
    them:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html).
    For example, you can call:
    var appResource:File=File.applicationResourceDirectory;
    This particular method is static so you don't need an
    instance. If you
    do (such as when Flash tells you the property isn't static),
    simply
    create an instance like this:
    var fileInstace:File=new File();
    fileInstance.someMethod('abc'); //just an example...read the
    reference
    for actual function calls
    Because the getter function in the AIR class returns a Class
    reference,
    it allows you to perform all of these actions directly as
    though the
    File class is part of the built in class structure (which in
    the
    runtime, it is!).
    Using this technique, you can create references to literally
    *ALL* of
    the AIR classes and use them to build your AIR application.
    The beauty
    of this technique is its brevity. When you define the class
    reference,
    all of the methods and properties are automatically
    associated with it
    so you don't need reams of code to define each and every
    item.
    There's a bit more that can be done with this AIR class to
    make it
    friendlier and I'll be extending mine until all the AIR
    classes are
    available. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a
    line or drop
    by my site at
    http://www.baynewmedia.com
    where I'll be posting the
    completed class. I may also make it into a component if
    there's enough
    interest. To all of you who knew all this already, I hope I
    didn't waste
    your time.
    Happy coding,
    Patrick

    Wow, you're right. The content simply doesn't show up at all.
    No
    JavaScript or HTML parsing errors, apparently. But no IE7
    content.
    I'll definitely have to look into that. In the meantime, try
    FireFox :)
    I'm trying to develop a panel to output AIR applications from
    within the
    Flash IDE. GSkinner has one but I haven't been able to get it
    to work
    successfully. Mine has exported an AIR app already so that's
    a step in
    the right direction but JSFL is a tricky beast, especially
    when trying
    to integrate it using MMExecute strings.
    But, if you can, create AIR applications by hand. I haven't
    yet seen an
    application that allows you to change every single option
    like you can
    when you update the application.xml file yourself. Also, it's
    a great
    fallback skill to have.
    Let me know if you need some assistance with AIR exports.
    Once you've
    done it a couple of times, it becomes pretty straightforward.

    Faster, easier, better...ActionScript development taken to
    new heights.
    Download the BNMAPI today. You'll wonder how you ever did
    without it!
    Available for ActionScript 2.0/3.0.

  • Flash CS3 bringing tears to my eyes...

    Hi there,
    Please check this screen cap of a "corrupted" Flash CS3 swf :
    http://www.fairtraderugs.com/corrupted_swf.png
    Can anyone tell me why I'm getting these horrible white
    "gaps" appearing in the published SWF(image on the right), but NOT
    in the original FLA (image on the left). And perhaps more
    importantly is there anything I can do about this corruption?
    I had assumed it was something to do with cubic to quadratic
    bezier conversion during the import from AI CS3, but I assume as
    the Flash IDE can render it correctly this cannot be the cause of
    the problem?
    Many thanks for your thoughts,
    Rich

    How is the AI file setup (layers)?
    I have seen this before in very rare situations and I know
    there's a way to fix it - I am betting
    the original image is very small right? If so - scale it up
    large - really large - before importing
    into Flash. Feel free to send me your Ai file:
