Flash CS3 hard crash on Debug Movie

I've logged this bug but wanted to post it to the boards in
case anyone else is having this same problem. It's been going on
since I purchased Flash CS3 pro and has been really crippling my
development workflow because I can only get the debugger to work
maybe 1 in 4 times.
I also tried reinstalling the latest Java hoping that might
help as the bug referenced Java.
******BUG******
Concise problem statement:
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Debug Movie (Flash CS3 IDE) with licensed off-the-shelf
Flash CS3 Pro.
Notes: "About Flash" shows version as: 9.0
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\Flash.exe properties
shows version as 9.0.0.494
http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/downloads.html
"Adobe Flash Player Update for Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2)"
never seems to "take" no matter how many times I apply it and
restart.
Results: Immediate crash of Flash IDE
And unable to re-open Flash IDE by clicking on an FLA file or
Flash Shortcut, which give the message "Windows cannot find
'[filename]' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click
Search." Must restart or logout in order to be able to open Flash
again.
Expected results:
No crash, debugger should work.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am having the
same issues on Windows Vista Ultimate. I have been running Flash
CS3 fine for 8 months and now this, middle of a work day, on a
Friday when several things are due and I cannot get it to open.
ADOBE, this cannot be a problem isolated to just 2 people, what is
    the solution please?

  • Flash content hard crashes computer, no matter what I do

I have gone to the end of the earth to find a solution to this problem and I cannot figure it out.
    I've tried older video drivers(nvidia, gtx460), I've tried newest, a little older.
I've tried as many different versions of Flash player I could find
Both combinations of flash player and video driver have been interchanged with more combinations than a Yahtzee dice game.
Computer build is less than a year old.
This crash was happening for a couple weeks very intermittently, then it got worse, then one of the lockups CAUSED BY FLASH to caused my operating system to become corrupt. THEN, even after a full format and reinstall, FLASH STILL CRASHED MY COMPUTER.
Every single piece of computer hardware has been stress tested and temperature monitored.
New PSU was installed (corsair hx750)
    Tried a different Graphics card.
Nothing. And I mean NOTHING. Stops my computer from hard crashing from flash content(videos mostly).
It causes either a complete powerdown INSTANTLY, then my computer restarts. OR the other crash it does is complete LOCKUP with a horrible sounding static sound loop.
    Please help!

All I can really say about that is that you're the only person I'm seeing complaining of these systems.  With 1.2 billion users, we'd be hearing about it if Flash was somehow magically able to cause this through normal operation (it's not).  The fact that your machine is powering off points to a hardware problem.
If you feel that you've exhausted your troubleshooting efforts there and are able to use the computer successfully without Flash Player installed, I'd recommend uninstalling:
    Uninstall Flash Player | Windows
Alternatively, if you have a sound card that isn't built onto the motherboard chipsets, you might yank it and see if your system stability improves, since it sounds like you've done that with the video card already.

  • Flash CS3 Constantly Crashing

I am using flash CS3 and 60% of the time when I hit
CTRL+ENTER to publish the flash file, it crashes. It doesn't give
me an error message, it just crashes and asks if I want to send an
error report to microsoft. Does anyone else have this problem? Is
there a way to fix it?
I learned after the first 2 time of losing my work to save
    each time before I publish.

  • Flash CS3 Professional CRASHING

I can't post in the Customer Service Center because it's my
work's copy and I have no info on the software.
Flash CS3 Professional is crashing immediately (with generic
error message of having to close Flash) when I open an existing fla
file OR try to create a new one. It crashed originally when I
accidentally pasted a paragraph of text into the font tab instead
of a font. I restarted and it was still broken. I got the tech
person to uninstall and reinstall the software and it STILL
CRASHES. What is going on?? Anyone??? I need this to do aspects of
my job, so I need help ASAP. Thanks!

  • Flash CS3 Professional crashing on exit

    Hi to all,
I have a strange problem. Every time I use Flash CS3, the
program works with no problem, with no lags and crashes. But once
my work is done and I close it, Windows prompts a dialog about a
"Flash not responding" warning. It happens every time I close the
    program, why is that?
My laptop has 2 Gigs of Ram, Vista Home Premium.
    Thanks in advance...

I do not recommend you to use CS3. And Vista. Too big, heavy
and slow. If it was not a program but something else, you'd run
    like hell, right?

  • Flash CS3: Help me make my movie play, please!

    URL: http:schoolsignsonline.com
This is an electronic sign company, so I'm trying to put a Flash movie of one of their signs onto their preexisting site. No sound, no skin, no controls, just the movie, looping endlessly.
I imported an .avi video (from a PC) from the client into Flash CS3 (on a Mac), and made sure my stage was the same size as the file parameters.
Saved the file. Tested the movie in Flash. **The movie plays just fine**. It's a picture of brightly colored balloons ascending on a black background.
    I publish the movie.
I copy the .fla and .swf into the flash folder at the root level of the site on my local server.
I go into Dreamweaver CS3 to insert the movie using their Insert>Flash into the div I've created for it on the index page (which uses server side includes for the nav & footer only - no PHP involved - so each page has an .shtml extension).
I test the movie in DW by clicking on the green arrow in the properties toolbar. Nothing but white. Movie doesn't play, or if it is playing, it's only white.
What the heck. I save the page, letting DW generate the script.
I upload the revised index page, the flash folder (with the .swf and .fla files in it), and the Scripts folder to the site on the remote server.
Go to a browser. Nothing but white where the movie is supposed to be.
I asked about this on the Adobe DW group on Yahoo Groups, and they really didn't know, thinking it was a Flash problem. One of them said the movie couldn't be found. Dang it! This is a script that DW generated when I placed the movie into the page! I don't know anything about JavaScript (yet), so I'm not going to muck about in the code to break it.
BTW, the HTML for the page with the movie on it no longer validates - I hear this is typical of a CS3 Flash insertion by DW.
Can anyone PLEASE help me figure out what I've done wrong? What other info do you need from me?
    Thank you in advance.
    Theresa

For the Flash-generated html file, you basically want to copy the script tag in the head section....
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
into the same place in the head section of the real file.
and copy the entire section of code in the body starting with and including...
    <script language="javascript">
    if (AC_FL_RunContent == 0) {
    .... all the stuff between....
    </object>
    </noscript>
    into the div you mention
And in the case of what's shown above, you would want to have the AC_RunActiveContent.js file in a Scripts folder.

  • Flash CS3 now crashes randomly after 0-30 minutes

    Hello,
I've been using flash CS3 for years without problem.
Since the beginning of nov.2010, it crashes after some time of use. More precisely the toolbar disappears, then reappears, some GUI elements blink. It's not related to a specific user action. When this happens, closing flash is difficult (the window remains here). When switching to another app, some Flash parts remains. The graphical memory seems saturated. Launching another app is met with a window error message. A windows restarts becomes necessary.
This problem arises only in Flash, and with no other apps from CS3 suite.
2 colleagues of mine has the same issue, also in the last weeks (= nov 2010). We work in separate places. We didn't exchange files.
We are on Win XP Home Edition, Dell computer.
They have more recent PCs than mine (which clearly meets the CS3 requirements), with enough memory,etc..
One colleague has reinstalled winXP. The problem arised again, but I don't know when. He also tried CS4 and CS5 and had the same problem.
Today he un-installed all Adobe products with this utility: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html.
After this hour of uninstall process, he reinstalled Flash CS3 and used it without network/internet (no funky updates): The problem was still here.
    Does anyone has an idea?

After desinstalling Avira Antivir (and installing another antivirus software), the problem disappeared.
Just disabling Antivir is not enough.
Check this post on Avira forum (in french) for more info from Avira.

  • Free Transform/Rotate Causes Flash CS3 to Crash

    This problem is driving me nuts. I'm importing a 2000 x 3000
jpeg image and converting it to a symbol. everything seems fine
until I try to do a free transform and rotate the image. Then when
I proceed to cut the image, CS3 crashes. I can reproduce the error
every time. It works fine if the image is smaller but 2000 x 3000
is not too much to ask at all!
Has anyone else had similar problems?
I can reproduce this error on a Mac and a PC.
UPDATE: Breaking the bitmap apart after importing the image
seems to remedy the problem. Is this the only fix? Doesn't seem
right to me that I can't just easily drop in an semi-large asset
without having to break it apart.
UPDATE 2: Tried doing this with a larger asset and this did
not work at all. It crashes, I feel like Flash has a hard time with
large assets but I need the assets large so when I zoom in, I do
not lose quality. What am I doing wrong here? How do you guys
    handle your zoom ins?
Please tell me there is a fix!

It's been a year since, still not solution!?
I am having similar problem for the last 6 months!!

  • Nested Components (Flash CS3, AS2) Crashes Flash

    Hi,
When using a component within another component, Flash
crashes with no error message. How do I solve this problem? I've
tried to use Adobe's components within my own ones, and my own
    nested. Flash crashes.
I have tried finding the solution online with no luck, so I
assume it's either impossible to do, or very easy! :)
    Thanks,
    Niclas

The FLVPlayback component is by far the easiest... but if you really want to create your own buttons, then I suggest you build a custom NetStream player. This type of player is much more powerful and versatile means of playing video than the Playback component. Keep in mind that it does require a little hand coding... but again...we are firstly advising you to use the Playback component. If you can't use that, then NetStream may be your only other option.
However, skip the .wmv and go with an .flv or .f4v file. The .wmv compression is not very good and your video file may be too large to download quickly.
There is a set of very good tutorials that teach you how to build a NetStream player:
    www.gotoandlearn.com
scroll to the very bottom of the page, there are a set of "Video Basics" tutorials.
With a NetStream player, you can build controls to pause/stop/start as well as interact with other parts of your Flash.

  • Flash CS3 keeps crashing

When I copy and paste an illlustrator file into Flash, it keeps quitting on me. I can't seem to get past the first step. Is there some kind of bug fix i can download. Any ideas? I have a big project to start and I have to get this figured out soon!!

After being on hold for about an hour with Adobe support, then speaking with them, they basically told me to download Flash cs4. I downloaded the trial version and it seems to work now. after two days of trying to figure out the problem, spending $200 for an upgrade seem to be the only answer. Not necessarily the answer i would like but seems this problem baffled everyone.
I am on a power mac G5 OX 10.5.8  memory 4GB. If you have any ideas of why this was happening, please send me a note.
Thanks all for trying to help me resolve this issue.

That description is about as wide open as it gets! ;)
    Troubleshooting
is often like a detective story: the more clues one has to
    work with, the
more confidently one can begin the chase.
Well, my problem is that the cs3 starting to crash doesn't
really have an explanation for me. but I will put details here.
    > I run vista business 32 bit
    > I didn't have problems until today,using flash cs3 for
    the last

    I don't have CS3 installed on Vista, so I'm afraid I can't
    provide any
offhand suggestions. Since you haven't seen problems until
    today, the first
thing that strikes me is: what happened with today's FLA that
    was different
from your previous efforts? Did you import an unusual
    external asset (even
if only unsual for you)? Maybe you imported a corrupted JPG
    or PNG. Maybe
    a bad font?
I did nothing with the fla that started the crash, I imported
some bitmaps and when trying to publish it, it crashed. Also, I
created another fla, imported some random jpgs 2 I believe, tried
to export it to the same folder, and cs3 crashed, saved the fla
with another name garbage.fla No fonts were used
    > Hint:
    > If I save the same .fla in another folder, flash cs3

    the root

Believe me, I'd be asking these "why" questions myself in
    your shoes.
What you're describing doesn't sound like a well known issue,
    so my hunch is
that something is awry with this particular FLA file --
    something not likely
to be easily reproduced. Since you can publish when saving to
    another
folder, I would run with that workaround for the time being.
    After saving
to a different folder, try using File > Save and Compact,
    then move the FLA
back to your original folder and try again. Or ... try File
    > Save As from
the new folder, and save the copy into your original folder.
In your duplicate post, you mentioned starting a thread of
    your own
(this one) but not hearing any responses. Obviously, I can
    only speak for
myself in this reply, but it may be that you didn't get
    responses because
your question is on the vague side. It doesn't describe a
    common issue
(like, for example, "Why can't I mask dynamic text?" [answer,
    "Make sure to
    embed your font outlines"]).
When I read these forums, I tend to skim the subject lines
    looking for
descriptive summaries. Many people post questions like "How
    did they do
this?" or "Help!" or "Flash question" ... none of which
    describe meaningful
topics. In my opinion, your subject line is useful, because
    it briefly
summarizes your question. That's a good thing. When I read
    the actual body
of your post, though, I quickly realized there wasn't enough
    (for me, at
least) to give you a solid answer. In this case, I've tried
    to give you a
few pointers anyway, but I'm only hazarding a few "try this"
    type
    suggestions.
It may be that others who read your post felt equally unable
    to answer
your questions with confidence -- at least, as stated.
Well, I did some research on the internet and there is a
quite more few people having the same problem, here is the other
    forum I found:
    cs3
    flash crash when publishing
I am sorry that I didn't post any more specifications of what
I was doing, but what I was doing was not something different or
unusual of what I have been doing for the last week at least. I was
just working with dw and flash together importing the .swf into an
html and launching the html from dw.

  • Flash CS4 Hangs when opening a flash CS3 file

    Hi to all,
    I'm having a big problem with a flash file. I installed CS4,
    and trying to open a flash CS3 file crashes CS4. It´s a
complex file, but it opened quickly with no problems in CS3.
    Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
Intel Centrino Duo T2050 1.6 Ghz
    2 Gb RAM
    Nvidia GeForce 7600
    Thanks in advance

Hmmm - I havent experienced this here - CS4 opens all of my
    CS3 files no
matter how large or small and across netwrks. I would try
    opening your file
in CS3 again, do a save as with a new name, then launch CS4
    and try opening
    the newly saved file.

  • New 9.0.2 update for Flash CS3 Professional

I just ran the new Flash CS3 Professional update via the
Adobe Updater. Everything ran and reported the update was
successfully completed. However Flash still says it's 9.0.0.494 in
the Finder and when choosing About Flash from the program it says
9.0. Just wondering if the update really happened or not.

Bentley: There is a downloadable update available NOW. And
based on what you say the language is confusing.
    12/12/2007 Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2) delivers
support for the latest update of Adobe Flash Player 9. This update
includes a new Video Playback component supporting H.264, support
for Flash Lite 3 Update for Flash CS3 Professional, and all Debug
and Release versions of this new Adobe Flash Player. For users of
Flash CS3 Professional, this update will also be available via
Adobe Update Manager in Flash CS3 Professional.
It states "Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2)". You should
change that, as it does not appear to be the case. The language
definitely implies that the program itself will be updated to
    9.0.2.

  • 2010 Macbook pro freezes a lot, but mouse still moves. It unfreezes if you wait. It also hard crashes... Also, weird lines and screen flashes.

I have a 2010 Macbook pro running snow leopard (Mac OS 10.6.8).  First off, this has been the worst computer I've ever owned or have heard of someone having, Mac or PC.  There hasn't been a time where something hasn't been wrong.  I'm going to list my specs, my current problems and maybe list previous problems after that.  Any advice or suggestions would be great.  My brother works for apple out in Cali and I've been sending him crash and bug reports and he can't seem to figure out what's going on.
    Specs:
2010 Macbook Pro (Mac OSX 10.6.8)
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics Cards: Intel HD Graphics (288 VRAM) and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (512 VRAM)
(if you want more info, just ask)
To start things off, my computer hard crashes at random points playing basically any game.  StarCraft 2 (when I could play the game prior to Blizzard patching my OS out of the minimum requirements), League of Legends, MineCraft and others all crash while in use.  My computer screen suddenly flashes white and then to black and whatever audio may have been playing in the past second of gameplay is thrown into a constant loop.  The screen is solid black with no mouse and there is no keyboard functionality.  The only thing I can do is hold down the power button.  I first started noticing this problem back when StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm came out.  I would crash every 4 or 5 games in this way.  Since that was happening I resorted to playing other games such as League of Legends.  I wasn't having any trouble at all, but gradually it started to have the hard crashing issues.  Initially every handful of games, now it crashes in roughly 50% of the games I play.  This happens while I have NO other applications open and this has happened even after a complete restart with only 2 things opening at startup.  League started crashing in this way after I brought my computer in to have a fan replaced.
Another thing which has started happening since I had my fan replaced at the apple store: My computer has become very sluggish at times and my computer freezes in another way.  Many times a day, I will find I click on something in an application and the entire computer locks up.  There's no spinning beachball.  There's no movement of any sort on the screen and there is no button functionality, but I can move the mouse.  Clicking does nothing.  This sort of freeze lasts for about 30 seconds up to 5 or 6 minutes or so.  After that, it suddenly just decides to work again.  I can tell when it unfreezes because the clock in the corner jumps to the correct time.  This has happened frequently while using Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari.  It also happened while trying to use Skype.  It was freezing the most when facebook or youtube has been open, but it happens without that happening as well.  One of the first times I noticed it, earlier this year, I was searching for work and tried to go to this website: http://www.nhab.org/ (looking for a job).  It froze my computer as I described above (and I didn't know it would unfreeze after several minutes, so I thought my computer was completely frozen). I restarted, went to the same website and it froze again.  I did this a third time and it froze again, so I restarted again.  On the fourth try, it loaded.  The frequency of this problem is ridiculous.  I actually decided to delete Google Chrome from my computer (and its support files) since my computer would freeze the most often with Chrome (though I used Chrome mostly for youtube and watching tv shows online).  Almost instantly after deleting Chrome, my computer was running significantly faster.  things loaded quicker in other browsers and aplications loaded smoother.  My text no longer lagged when typing in facebook...  It hasn't solved the freezing, though the freezing tends to last less time now.
Another thing that happens, which I am not sure is normal: When my computer is booting, after the grey screen, it changes to light blue.  During this light blue time, often times white horizontal centimeter to inch wide bars will flash across the screen near the top.  This also happens on shutting down.  I also noticed that when it shuts down the screen doesn't just shut off.  The screen flickers quick for up to a second and then it is off.  It doesn't just turn off.
My computer has also occassionally flashed for a brief fraction of a second, to the blue start up color and back to whatever I am doing.
Those are all issues I am having right now and I am beginning to wonder if this several thousand dollar computer is capable of doing much more than just writing text..
    Prior issues I have had:
Right from the start, I have had major graphical issues which I showed to the people at the apple store and they reinstalled flash, but they really didn't know what was going on.  These glitches would tiles previous graphical things I had done in an artistic mozaic across my desktop, replacing my background image with broken mozaics.  It's hard to explain without showing, so here are 2 screenshots from it:
The people at the store thought it was just flash... but I don't understand how that could be flash.  I would have to flip through different desktop backgrounds I used to make it go away.  After it doing this for 2 years, it has only happened once since then and not very badly..
Another issue I had: The battery on my laptop just about exploded... I woke up one morning with my laptop sitting on my night stand as usual, but there was a small crack across part of my trackpad.  I was scared because I thought I must have done something... I went to the bathroom, took a shower and when I came back the crack was farther across the trackpad.  I had breakfast, came upstairs and my trackpad had 1 crack across the whole thing with multiple mini cracks going in every direction from it.  After telling my brother what was going on, he quickly said that it was the battery and to take it to a store.  I took it to the store and showed them what was happening and they very quickly took it out back and I quote "threw the battery in a firesafe immediately" because when they opened the laptop it started to quickly expand.  This ended up cracking my trackpad as well as bending the bottom of the body on the laptop.  All had to be replaced...
Then I had the fan sounding like a weedwacker, so I had it replaced a couple months ago and a couple months ago is when the freezing began, the computer started running slowly and all games crash the computer.
I have had a lot of things go wrong, not a lot of things go right and I'm really frustrated.  Can anyone tell me how to get my computer to stop freezing or how to make it stop hard crashing during any of the games I play?
Basically, what I have done so far is reset the PRAM I think?  I held command + option + P + R on start up and had it chime 3 or 4 times.  Other than that, I don't know what to do.... suggestions?

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.
