Flash CS3: Straight Lines Randomly?

Hey all,
     I've been dealing with a problem recently in Flash and from what I can tell is hasn't been addressed, so please excuse me if this issue has already been resolved elsewhere. This is only a recent problem, but whenever I draw in Flash, there's an odd error in rendering the lines, more specifically, the curves. Below is an example of what I'm referring to.
I'm desperate to get this animation completed and this certainly isn't helping. I've already re-installed Flash, removed and updated all drivers, tried different tablets, given they were all Bamboo Pens, but regardless, the effort was there.
Can anyone muster up some remedy for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hmmm, that looks like your graphics card memory is being eaten up by something else. What else do you have running a the same time? Mac or PC? If it's a Mac you might want to NOt have any music running and definitely not iTunes as I have read it can eat up as much as 70% of the processor's memory. If it's a PC you might try downloading a thing called TabTip Tamer from Chad Essley. It is supposed to fix the fight between Window's Tab Tip driver and Wacom's driver which are both vying for the screen control. Also how old is the Bamboo tablet? I only ask because you're using CS3 which is mighty old and it may be the tablet's just run it's course. I used to have no trouble using CS3 but since both Mac and Pc have upgraded their OS's it seems to chug a LOT more and I ended up ditching it for CS6 mostly for that reason. Why is it doing that? No clue but it's probably just because it was written for an older OS.

  • Flash CS3 now crashes randomly after 0-30 minutes

    Hello,
    I've been using flash CS3 for years without problem.
    Since the beginning of nov.2010, it crashes after some time of use. More precisely the toolbar disappears, then reappears, some GUI elements blink. It's not related to a specific user action. When this happens, closing flash is difficult (the window remains here). When switching to another app, some Flash parts remains. The graphical memory seems saturated. Launching another app is met with a window error message. A windows restarts becomes necessary.
    This problem arises only in Flash, and with no other apps from CS3 suite.
    2 colleagues of mine has the same issue, also in the last weeks (= nov 2010). We work in separate places. We didn't exchange files.
    We are on Win XP Home Edition, Dell computer.
    They have more recent PCs than mine (which clearly meets the CS3 requirements), with enough memory,etc..
    One colleague has reinstalled winXP. The problem arised again, but I don't know when. He also tried CS4 and CS5 and had the same problem.
    Today he un-installed all Adobe products with this utility: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html.
    After this hour of uninstall process, he reinstalled Flash CS3 and used it without network/internet (no funky updates): The problem was still here.
    Does anyone has an idea?

    After desinstalling Avira Antivir (and installing another antivirus software), the problem disappeared.
    Just disabling Antivir is not enough.

  • How to get rid of or at least easily fix random Position A to Positon B 'archs'?(want straight line)

    Hey,
    I hope i can describe my question correctly: is there a way to tell after effects that i want to default every position edit to be a straight path/arch (i'm actually looking for a lack of 'arch'--I just want a straight line) instead of defaulting to a seemingly random arch that i then find very tedious if not impossible to fix, even by manipulating vertice box 'arms' while holding alt? in other words, can i tell the program that, from now on, 'position A' and 'position B' must be traveled between in a straight line ONLY, never any erronious archs? i hope i described it well enough without being too familar with technical terms

  • Dashed lines in Flash CS3

    Hi all, Is there a way to make the end caps of an imported
    dashed line (say from Illustrator or Canvas) straight? They seem to
    always come out round.
    I have tried making them straight lines instead of dashed
    both before and after importing them to Flash but the end caps
    still come out rounded. Flash does not let me change the end caps
    of dashed lines at all. So even if I set it correctly when it's
    still a straight line, as soon as I turn it into a dashed line, it
    turns round and I can't change it.
    Very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help,

    Seems like an oversight from Adobe to me. Submit a bug report

  • Flash CC 2014 Drawing with tablet creates straight lines

    I recently downloaded Flash and Photoshop from the free student service and when I use my tablet Intuos4, the lines you see are drawn but it's also draws in the far left, the start of the straight line is where I actually start but for some reason it draws a straight line shifting to the left.
    I checked if it was my shift key from the keyboard and tablet to see if it was jammed, but on the bottom half of the canvas you notice that when I do use my shift key it still draws straight lines and still goes to the far left.
    I updated my drivers for my tablet and it still didn't do anything, it doesn't happen to any other program like Photoshop, it detects the tablet and draws normally.
    Help please?

    Hi.
    I am experiencing some serious issues with flash professional cc and my drawing tablet. Every time I place my drawing pen on the surface of my tablet, while in flash professional cc, a long straight line darting to the left and beyond my canvas occurs. I haven't messed with any of my settings for I just got the tablet today as well as the flash professional cc program. It's very frustrating and is hindering my work. If this problem is not resolved, I will take my business and money elsewhere.
    Thank you.

  • CS6 - Brush bug - randomly draws straight lines when sketching

    Hey everyone,
    I noticed this bug that occurs when I use the brush tool. Whenever I'm sketching in a small region, it randomly draws a straight line, as if I never lifted my pen. It's like when you hold the shift key to make a straight line, except I'm not holding the shift key. However, this only happens if I'm drawing semi-closely and/or if I'm drawing semi-fast (not that fast though. The lines will connect even though I lifted my pen. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I updated my video card and tablet to its latest drivers but it hasn't fixed the issue.
    Specs:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Wacom intuos5 tablet
    Nvidia GT 520 Graphics card
    Photoshop CS6
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Allso have this from time to time.
    The brush loses response and does little short straight lines here and there, it's a software glitch. I usually save my document when that happens, this usually snaps it out of it but a few times I had to wait then save again. I used to be able to just swap apps or click on layers or something but that doesn't work anymore.
    XP 32bit
    CS5 32bit
    I had the same promlem with CS4 trial, with my old Manhattan tablet and with my new Intuo's. I think it's a bug that comes in from time to time with panel, window focus changes. Or Id get up to fetch a cup of coffee and when I come back it's like that.

  • Completely random Flash CS3 crashes

    This is absolutely driving me nuts. I'm experiencing what is
    essentially completely random crashes. As far as I can tell, they
    have only been occuring since I installed the Flash CS3 AIR
    extension.
    This only seems to happen after I've been working for a
    number of hours. I use CTRL-Enter to build, the Expoprting Flash
    Movie Prompt appears, my CPU goes to MAX and the software halts. I
    can still ALT-Tab to other programs, but doing anything in Flash is
    no longer possible - meaning unsaved work is destroyed.
    The SWF is NOT built on the crash. I can grab the last built
    SWF and what I'ev been doing is Sothink Decompiling it and
    rebuilding my actionscript from where I left off.
    I first noticed it only on my work computer, and it was soon
    after upgrading the AIR extension (through the built-in updater). I
    was not getting at home until after the updated as well (completely
    different Flash CS3 license).
    I'm not sure how else to explain it. If anyone can help -
    please do. I'm starting to save as often as possible, but
    sometimes...when you're in that groove...that's always when it
    happens. You know, after you haven't swaved for two hours...

    OK the problem isn't the DUAL Monitors, but rather having a
    custom workspace open while trying to close Flash. I have to change
    the workspace back to Default or it will not close at all. Any
    ideas.

  • Photoshop CS5 brush randomly becomes straight lines

    Hi everyone,
    I'm having a problem with my student edition version of photoshop CS5. For some unknown reason the brush tool randomly stops drawing lines that I command it to do (using my tablet pen) and will correct itself when I open another program (any program). Instead of drawing a curve, it will just draw a straight line and half the time not even for very far. I cant figure out for the life of me what is causing this problem. My laptop isnt on stickykeys or anything like that and I am running windows 7 64 bit with 8 gig of ram..
    THANKYOU SO MUCH in advance if you can help a student in need of doing her homework!

  • Help with Flash CS3 Particle Effect Tutorial Code

    I did the tutorial from http://www.schoolofflash.com/2008/03/flash-cs3-particle-effect/. I used a star to replace the circle. Here's my code:
    var starsArray:Array = new Array();
    var maxStarss:Number = 8;
    function addStars(e:Event)
        var stars:Stars = new Stars();
        stars.x = stage.stageWidth/2;
        stars.y = stage.stageHeight/2;
        stars.alpha = Math.random() * .8 + .2;
        stars.scaleX = stars.scaleY = Math.random() * .8 + .2;
        stars.xMovement = Math.random() * 10 - 5;
        stars.yMovement = Math.random() * 10 - 5;
        starsArray.push(stars);
        addChild(stars);
        stars.cacheAsBitmap = true;
        if (starsArray.length >= maxStarss)
            removeChild(starsArray.shift());
        stars.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,moveStars);
    function moveStars(e:Event)
        e.currentTarget.x += e.currentTarget.xMovement;
        e.currentTarget.y += e.currentTarget.yMovement;
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(50);
    myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, addStars);
    myTimer.start();
    This time, I'm trying to make the stars shrink and transparent as they move away from the point. So I coded it like this:
    import flash.events.Event;
    var starsArray:Array = new Array();
    var maxStarss:Number = 8;
    function addStars(e:Event)
        var stars:Stars = new Stars();
        stars.x = stage.stageWidth/2;
        stars.y = stage.stageHeight/2;
        stars.alpha = Math.random() * .8 + .2;
        stars.scaleX = stars.scaleY = Math.random() * .8 + .2;
        stars.xMovement = Math.random() * 10 - 5;
        stars.yMovement = Math.random() * 10 - 5;
        starsArray.push(stars);
        addChild(stars);
        stars.cacheAsBitmap = true;
        if (starsArray.length >= maxStarss)
            removeChild(starsArray.shift());
        stars.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,moveStars);
        stars.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,animeStars);
    function animeStars(e:Event)
        trace(this.starsArray);
        this.scaleX-=0.01;
        this.scaleY-=0.01;
        this.alpha-=0.01;
        if (this.alpha<=0) // remove this object from stage
    function moveStars(e:Event)
        e.currentTarget.x += e.currentTarget.xMovement;
        e.currentTarget.y += e.currentTarget.yMovement;
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(50);
    myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, addStars, animeStars);
    myTimer.start();
    I couldn't make it work. All I got was an error message saying "
    1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before rightbrace.
    Help?

    It is because of this line of code at the end
    myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, addStars, animeStars);
    if you read the documentation on addeventlistener it looks for these type of arguments to be passed
    addEventListener(type:String, listener:Function, useCapture:Boolean);
    animeStars is not a boolean it is a function. Since you already have animeStars in your addStars function you can exclude it in the last event listerer. try this:
    myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, addStars);

  • [Flash CS3] Resolution Issues

    Hello, I've been trying to piece together a FLA for the past few days now, only to encounter problem after problem. I've managed to overcome all but one problem I have been experiencing in Adobe Flash CS3 Professional, being a resolution problem.
    I've drawn 796 frames for a flash animation in Photoshop CS3 Professional using a graphics (drawing) tablet, saving them as a .JPG. Would have been smarter to use .PNG, but wasen't thinking straight at the time. After importing the files into the library 100 at a time to prevent a crash, I adjust the flash window to be 1176x894, two pixels short both width and height wise when compared to the files I will be using for the animation. This is to get rid of a tiny white line, as the files don't drop perfectly onto the flash even if they are the exact same resolution. So I plop on the cover for the animation, hitting F6 nine times to make nine extra frames for the intro. F7 for a new, blank keyframe, drop on the first (second really) frame of the animation itself...and it's not the same size.
    Note that both the cover and all frames are the exact same resolution, 1178x896 with the flash being 1176x894. It shrinks anything that isn't the cover, also a .JPG, by about 65% the normal size. There appears to be no way to adjust the frames, so down goes the flash unless I really want to make it much smaller. If anyone knows a solution to this problem, I would MUCH apperciate it. :-)

    Okay the most important lesson here is that when you are doing something like this test a few before you do all of them.
    Well I have no idea. I was going to say that you probably saved the jpegs at a different resolution. Flash expects 72 dpi. Of course that is possible that you have different resolutions.
    Also I've never had a problem where the pixel dimensions aren't what they are supposed to be. So you probably have something else going on here....

    That description is about as wide open as it gets! ;)
    Troubleshooting
    is often like a detective story: the more clues one has to
    work with, the
    more confidently one can begin the chase.
    Well, my problem is that the cs3 starting to crash doesn't
    really have an explanation for me. but I will put details here.
    > I run vista business 32 bit
    > I didn't have problems until today,using flash cs3 for
    the last

    I don't have CS3 installed on Vista, so I'm afraid I can't
    provide any
    offhand suggestions. Since you haven't seen problems until
    today, the first
    thing that strikes me is: what happened with today's FLA that
    was different
    from your previous efforts? Did you import an unusual
    external asset (even
    if only unsual for you)? Maybe you imported a corrupted JPG
    or PNG. Maybe
    a bad font?
    I did nothing with the fla that started the crash, I imported
    some bitmaps and when trying to publish it, it crashed. Also, I
    created another fla, imported some random jpgs 2 I believe, tried
    to export it to the same folder, and cs3 crashed, saved the fla
    with another name garbage.fla No fonts were used
    > Hint:
    > If I save the same .fla in another folder, flash cs3
    doesn't crash
    > when publishing. why? this looks that is happening in
    the root
    > of the folder
    Believe me, I'd be asking these "why" questions myself in
    your shoes.
    What you're describing doesn't sound like a well known issue,
    so my hunch is
    that something is awry with this particular FLA file --
    something not likely
    to be easily reproduced. Since you can publish when saving to
    another
    folder, I would run with that workaround for the time being.
    After saving
    to a different folder, try using File > Save and Compact,
    then move the FLA
    back to your original folder and try again. Or ... try File
    > Save As from
    the new folder, and save the copy into your original folder.
    In your duplicate post, you mentioned starting a thread of
    your own
    (this one) but not hearing any responses. Obviously, I can
    only speak for
    myself in this reply, but it may be that you didn't get
    responses because
    your question is on the vague side. It doesn't describe a
    common issue
    (like, for example, "Why can't I mask dynamic text?" [answer,
    "Make sure to
    embed your font outlines"]).
    When I read these forums, I tend to skim the subject lines
    looking for
    descriptive summaries. Many people post questions like "How
    did they do
    this?" or "Help!" or "Flash question" ... none of which
    describe meaningful
    topics. In my opinion, your subject line is useful, because
    it briefly
    summarizes your question. That's a good thing. When I read
    the actual body
    of your post, though, I quickly realized there wasn't enough
    (for me, at
    least) to give you a solid answer. In this case, I've tried
    to give you a
    few pointers anyway, but I'm only hazarding a few "try this"
    type
    suggestions.
    It may be that others who read your post felt equally unable
    to answer
    your questions with confidence -- at least, as stated.
    Well, I did some research on the internet and there is a
    quite more few people having the same problem, here is the other
    forum I found:
    cs3
    flash crash when publishing
    I am sorry that I didn't post any more specifications of what
    I was doing, but what I was doing was not something different or
    unusual of what I have been doing for the last week at least. I was

    When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
    This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
    On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • AIR Intrinsic Classes-Tried and Proven Approach to building AIR applications   in the Flash CS3 IDE

    Hi everyone,
    For all of you out there who would like to develop AIR
    applications
    from the Flash CS3 IDE but aren't sure how to get those pesky
    intrinsic
    classes working, I have a technique that you can work with to
    create
    your classes and make fully functional AIR applications.
    First of all, those solutions out there that list
    "intrinsic" functions
    in their class definitions won't work. That keyword has been
    taken out
    and simply won't work. The "native" keyword also doesn't work
    because
    Flash will reject it. The solution is to do dynamic name
    resolution at
    runtime to get all the classes you need.
    Here's a sample class that returns references to the "File",
    "FileStream", and "FileMode" classes:
    package com.adobe{
    import flash.utils.*;
    import flash.display.*;
    public class AIR extends MovieClip {
    public static function get File():Class {
    try {
    var classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.File');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get File
    public static function get FileMode():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileMode');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileMode
    public static function get FileStream():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileStream');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileStream
    }//AIR class
    }//com.adobe package
    I've defined the package as com.adobe but you can call it
    whatever you
    like. You do, however, need to import "flash.utils.*" because
    this
    package contains the "getDefinitionByName" method. Here I'm
    also
    extending the MovieClip class so that I can use the extending
    class
    (shown next) as the main Document class in the Flash IDE.
    Again, this is
    entirely up to you. If you have another type of class that
    will extend
    this one, you can have this one extend Sprite, Math, or
    whatever else
    you need (or nothing if it's all the same to you).
    Now, in the extending class, the Document class of the FLA,
    here's the
    class that extends and uses it:
    package {
    import com.adobe.AIR;
    public class airtest extends AIR{
    public function airtest() {
    var field:TextField=new TextField();
    field.autoSize='left';
    this.addChild(field);
    field.text="Fileobject="+File;
    }//constructor
    }//airtest class
    }//package
    Here I'm just showing that the class actually exists but not
    doing much
    with it.
    If you run this in the Flash IDE, the text field will show
    "File
    object=null". This is because in the IDE, there really is no
    File
    object, it only exists when the SWF is running within the
    Integrated
    Runtime. However, when you run the SWF as an AIR application
    (using the
    adl.exe utility that comes with the SDK, for example), the
    text field
    will now show: "File object=[object File]". Using this
    reference, you
    can use all of the File methods directly (have a look here
    for all of
    them:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html).
    For example, you can call:
    var appResource:File=File.applicationResourceDirectory;
    This particular method is static so you don't need an
    instance. If you
    do (such as when Flash tells you the property isn't static),
    simply
    create an instance like this:
    var fileInstace:File=new File();
    fileInstance.someMethod('abc'); //just an example...read the
    reference
    for actual function calls
    Because the getter function in the AIR class returns a Class
    reference,
    it allows you to perform all of these actions directly as
    though the
    File class is part of the built in class structure (which in
    the
    runtime, it is!).
    Using this technique, you can create references to literally
    *ALL* of
    the AIR classes and use them to build your AIR application.
    The beauty
    of this technique is its brevity. When you define the class
    reference,
    all of the methods and properties are automatically
    associated with it
    so you don't need reams of code to define each and every
    item.
    There's a bit more that can be done with this AIR class to
    make it
    friendlier and I'll be extending mine until all the AIR
    classes are
    available. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a
    line or drop
    by my site at
    http://www.baynewmedia.com
    where I'll be posting the
    completed class. I may also make it into a component if
    there's enough
    interest. To all of you who knew all this already, I hope I
    didn't waste
    your time.
    Happy coding,
    Patrick

    Wow, you're right. The content simply doesn't show up at all.
    No
    JavaScript or HTML parsing errors, apparently. But no IE7
    content.
    I'll definitely have to look into that. In the meantime, try
    FireFox :)
    I'm trying to develop a panel to output AIR applications from
    within the
    Flash IDE. GSkinner has one but I haven't been able to get it
    to work
    successfully. Mine has exported an AIR app already so that's
    a step in
    the right direction but JSFL is a tricky beast, especially
    when trying
    to integrate it using MMExecute strings.
    But, if you can, create AIR applications by hand. I haven't
    yet seen an
    application that allows you to change every single option
    like you can
    when you update the application.xml file yourself. Also, it's
    a great
    fallback skill to have.
    Let me know if you need some assistance with AIR exports.
    Once you've
    done it a couple of times, it becomes pretty straightforward.

    Faster, easier, better...ActionScript development taken to
    new heights.
    Download the BNMAPI today. You'll wonder how you ever did
    without it!
    Available for ActionScript 2.0/3.0.
