Flash CS3 Video Encoder CuePoint XML help

I have a properly formed CuePoint XML file I generate from an
AppleScript that takes QT Chapter Marks and writes a CuePoint XML
for them. However, the File Type and Creator Type of the generated
file is TEXT and ttxt respectively. Flash Video encoder just
ignores these files and will not even let me select them to import
CuePoints. Checking sample CuePoint files created by the Encoder
reveals that they have no Type or Creator set. In fact they show
the attribute for these to be missing. The Encoder app refuses to
open any file with a Type applied. This is beyond frustrating and
just down right silly from a development stand point. Why on earth
should it limit based on type in this day and age. Since there is
no sane way of stripping the File Type attribute there seems to be
no viable way of opening a sane, well formed Cue Point XML file
created elsewhere on a Mac.
Does anyone have a suggestion, or can you point me to where
to file a really lame bug report with Adobe.

Thanks for your help!
It works perfect with so many formats, the only problem is
that I can not add ".wmv" files. Is there any way to do it?
Thanks again!

• Problem in Flash CS3 video Encoder

Hi,
I am experiencing a bug in the Flash CS3 Video encoder. I
have saved an XML file with settings that I will be using for
numerous video. I have basically set the Data Rate, Frame Rate, Key
Frame Interval, Audio and Video Size. The frame rate is set to
14.98.
When I load the profile that I have saved, the frame rate
stays at 14.98, but if i hit ok, and then click on the settings
again to modify them, the frame rate goes to 'same as source' and
does not stay at 14.98. If I change the frame rate to 14.98 at this
point, it sticks. My question is, why does it go to 'same as
source', and it concerns me, that if I do not manually go in and
change the settings back to 14.98, is it encoding the video at its
current frame rate.
Here is the XML file I use for encoding:

It appears that the <FrameRate></FrameRate> node
is only saved to the XML file if you choose something other than
"Same as source". However, it's always a non-standard value.
Evidently, if you are creating your own <FrameRate> value in
a custom XML setting file, you need to multiply the frame rate by
65536. For example, if you want 24 fps in the profile, your XML
should look like the code snippet below.

• Flash CS3 Video Encoder: No preview

[note: I posted this earlier in the Flash Media Encoder forum
-- which I thought was the same product as the video encoder.
Apparently it is not! I did not see a forum specific to the video
encoder, so I'm posting here.]
Greetings.
I'm getting no video preview in the Flash CS3 Video Encoder
when attempting to adjust settings. I can scrub back and forth and
set cue points, but the entire video preview is black. I've tried
several source files encoded with several different Quicktime
codecs and in a few different formats including .mov and .mp4 -- no
difference. The source files play fine and actually encode just
fine with the encoder, but the lack of preview to adjust cropping
and other setting is non-optimal, to say the least.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
Here's my setup:
-- PowerMac Dual-Core 2x2.66 GHz Intel Xeon
-- 30-inch Cinema Display
-- NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics card
-- Mac OSX 10.5.2
-- Quicktime Pro 7.4.1
-- Most recent version of Flash CS3 Video Encoder

I to am having the same problem with the flash encoder. Added
a wmv file and a mov file to the queue and I get the same results.
I do however see the first frame of the movies. Cannot set in and
out points because the first frame displays while scrubbing.

• Cropping using Flash CS3 Video Encoder

Hi all, I am trying to work around a problem and wonder if I
can solve it using the Flash Video Encoder. I need to resize and
crop at the same time. My end video needs to be 400 wide and 300
high and my source footage is 720 x 480. If I maintain the aspect
ratio my two options are 450 x 300 or 400 x 286 - so I need to add
14 pixels to the height or crop 25 pixels off each side of the
width.
I don't think I would be able to add the 14 or so pixels to
the height of the video in the video encoder (I just need them to
be black areas like letterbox and 16:9-like) - but this would be
ideal. But it does seem like I should be able to crop 25 pixels off
each side using the crop tool. I have been setting the file size to
450 x 300 and I have been entering 25 on the right and left side of
the video in crop in the crop and resize panel. This should
theoretically cut off 25 pixels on the right and left size leaving
me with the file size of 300 x 400.
Anyone have any suggestions? I might need to bring this into
another tool like Final Cut or something to achieve this but I am
trying to avoid encoding multiple times.
Thanks!!
Joe

• Is there a maximum input file size Flash CS3 Video Encoder can handle?

I am stuck with this encoder and attempting to "TRIM" an MPG file to specific time in/time out points for CBT course (the video is close to 500 meg). When I click the "Start Queue" it zips through with a bunch of black area then slows and only gives maybe 5 or 10 seconds of video.

That isn't what I asked. I don't need to know how large a pdf file that can be created is. And that thread you posted the link for says the maximum is 10GB's. Acrobat supposedly has the ability to convert an HTML file to a PDF file. I need to know what is the largest size HTML file that Acrobat can open for the purposes of converting it to a PDF file? As I said, I tried to get Acrobat to open an 81MB HTML file, for purposes of converting it to a PDF file (I had not even started the conversion process yet; I was just trying to do a File -> Open of an HTML file), and after sitting there trying for a few hours, Acrobat finally crashed. So, I need to know how I'm going to get Acrobat to convert this HTML file to a PDF file....or maybe it is just unable to do so.

• Flv video created with flash 8 video encoder

anyone know why flv files that I've created using the flash 8
video encoder don't seem to have any metadata in them? or maybe
they do but they never kick off the NetStream.onMetadata event so I
can't read it...
Similarly if I use the 'import video' function of Flash Pro 8
I get the same issue - yet FLV video created using Sorenson Squeeze
works fine, so I'm fairly confident that my code is OK.
Even more bizarrely, if I use the FLVPlayback component that
ships with Flash 8, that seems to read in the metadata OK!
argh!
Just to confuse things even more, the flash help for
NetStream.onMetadata says: "The Flash Video Exporter utility
(version
1.1 or greater) embeds a video's duration [...] into the
video file itself."
As far as I can tell I've got version 1.0 of the flash video
encoder/exporter but I'm damned if I can find out where to get an
update from...! Ever since CS3 came out it's been harder and harder
to get hold of stuff about flash 8 on the Adobe site...

well that's the thing - the metadata never traces out if the
video was encoded with flash video encoder, but that code would
work fine with video encoded with sorenson squeeze.
think I have worked it out now though: in order to pause the
video at start I am calling NetStream.seek(0) when I receive
"NetStream.play.start".
For some reason when I do this with flvs encoded using flash
video encoder, it stops the onMetaData event from firing - but
works fine with other flvs! weird... shall have to find another way
of pausing the video at the start I guess.
thanks for the reply though

• Audio from Flash CS3 Video overlapping

audio from Flash CS3 Video overlapping
help stopping the FLVPlayback instance (which has an instance
name of theVideo) when another button is clicked!
How do I stop flv playback when user clicks a navigation
button ...
Excuse me in advance for asking about a topic that may be
very popular!
I'm using the attached code to go from the main stage to one
subset of .swf files (loaded movies) and I apparently have no
problems with overlapping. Hell, the files even seem to unload
themselves correctly. Then, when I go to my second subset of .swf
files (with the exact same AS3 structure), which has a Flash Video
file (made by the FLV Playback component), I get into an
overlapping problem associated with the audio.
How can I stop, cancel, or unload the audio when the file is
clicked away from (the user selects another button on the main
stage)?
Code attached. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
Yours Sincerely,
Jntspecialty

I have tried to clean up code and do this right.
I need help referencing (storing the value in the variable
"stopsoundoverlapReq") the "flvplayback instance AFTER theVideo is
instantiated (ie, the frame that contains theVideo has rendered)"
correctly.
Also, now I need help with the name of my nav bar button's
method followed by parentheses, which should include the
appropriate method parameter.
On my main timeline, I tried to clean up the code and use:
var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =
stop("videopage.swf/MovieClip(ldr.content).theVideo");
Then for my nav bar button on this same timeline use:
any_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stopsoundoverlap);
function stopsoundoverlap(event:MouseEvent):void
stopsoundoverlap.stop(stopsoundoverlapReq);
The 3 errors I get now are :
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant:
FLVPlayback. var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =
stop("videopage.swf/MovieClip(ldr.content).theVideo");

reference with static type Function.
stopsoundoverlap.stop(stopsoundoverlapReq);

var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =

• No video after Flash 8 Video Encoder

I have read some other posts and although they are similar,
none of the solutions posted helps me fix my specific issue.
Using Flash 8 on Windows XP Pro SP2, I have a MPEG-2 file. I
can play the MPEG file using Windows Media Player 11 and RealPlayer
11 but I cannot play it using QuickTime 7.2. When I load the MPEG
file into Flash 8 Video Encoder (to convert it to a FLV file), it
doesn't seem to recognize that there is a video portion. It
recognizes there is an audio portion. By this I mean:
1. In Flash 8, click on File > Import > Import video...
2. Browsed to the MPEG file and clicked Next
3. Selected Progressive download... and clicked Next
4. In the Encoding screen, the video portion (top right hand
corner) is just blank.
In the MPEG files that work, I see the first frame of the
video. So, Flash 8 Video Encoder does not recognize there is a
video portion. Also, in Advanced Settings, in the Encodign tab, the
Encode Video checkbox is grayed out and not selectable. Only the
Encode Audio is checkable.
In writing this, I think the problem is my MPEG file. So I'll
continue to search the net for solutions to this. I just hope
someone has run into this issue in this forum and provide some
guidance.
Thanks.

• CS3 Video Encoder not as good as FLIX?

I had the disturbing experience yesterday of having to ask my
client to encode their own flv for me to use. They had given me a
QT file, which for whatever reason, had a glitch in it that
prevented it from properly encoding on my stock CS3 video encoder
software. They don't have Flash, and are on a PC (I'm mac). They
encoded it using their Flix encoder, and talked about the newest
version ("S" or something like that). Case in
point, their flv worked and mine didn't. (Mine was playing fine,
but something in the metadata was getting goofed and not throwing
an end-of-file status flag for me to capture. So, I couldn't get
the program to automatically close the video and move on.) I
checked for an update to my CS3 encoder, which simply took me to
the basic "Adobe software update" software, which
suggested a few other updates that I'm assuming are irrelevant to
Flash. (Reader, Version Cue, Bridge, StartMeeting, After Effects).
So, my lengthy intro leads me to the question, "Is
my stock CS3 flv encoder not the best thing for encoding
(On2).?"
Is there an update or better solution I'm not aware of?
Thanks,
Greg

I've tested a few encoding options (Sorenson Squeeze, flix
on2, CS3 encoder)
Today we're using FlipFactory to encode our flv &
many more files but when I have a job to be done quickly I just use
the CS3 encoder, disregarding any other fancy features like 2pass
encoding I think that the CS3 encoder is pretty good and it writes
ALL the needed metadata.

off the CD.
I and up getting ZIP of the encoder from a friend because
multiple unistall, reinstall
did not help.
Happen second time on my laptop, I got fed up and try to fix
it, can't reproduce the steps
but basically I remove QT player and Flash 8. Reinstall QT
first, than Follow by flash 8.
Tried that 4 or 5 times and eventually it start to work.
You can always use it from the program, it works within flash
File - import - import video
than pick the video and go to Progress Download From the
server.
Flash will generated the FLV automatically.
