Flash CS3 vs CS4 error
I am ready to pull my hair out!
I am taking a class. The version of Flash used in class is CS3. At home I have CS4.
I have done a simple game with three scenes. In the second scene "instr_scn" there is a frame reference named "instr_frm". The label is there and there are no typos. The game plays fine in CS3. When working at home, CS4, I get an error that reads:
ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label instr_frm not found in scene instr_scn.
at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndPlay()
at done_frame/handleClick()
I thought maybe it was the going back and forth. So I rebuilt the file completely in CS4. I get the same error. But no error in 3.....Please tell me what the problem is.
Thank you,
Michelle
Ooooooh, your evaluation of CS4 is disturbing. I am a long time Graphic Designer, who has decided to update my skills. I am taking 4 web design classes at my local JC.
Not only did I have to upgrade my software, which was necessary since I was still at Macromedia's last version. I also bought a new computer to be compatible with the software. Anyway other than some pretty basic things, I am new to Flash.
Unfortunatley your fix did not work. I did read else where regarding the error #2109 that others have fixed it by "replacing "it" the frame number" and the fix worked.
I don't know what that means.
It is hard to be so new at this. Next week when the semester is done I need to focus on getting a better understanding of just the basic rules of syntax. Coding is really new to me, but I am completely intriqued.
Thanks for your help.

Help!! Flash CS3 and CS4 "Test Movie" very slow on OS X
This is a problem that, having read many forums, affects a
very large amount of people, though Adobe doesn't care at all. It
only affects OS X users. I know that it has been addressed many
times in different forums, but I never actually stumbled across
anyone having found a solution.
When I use Flash CS3, and I make any animation, even the
simplest tween, and I preview it with Test Movie, the result I get
is an extremely slow playback. Something like half the FPS it
should be.
However, when I export the SWF and preview it in the external
Flash Player or in a browser, it's just fine and fast.
Another interesting thing is that in CS3, when I open the
Help panel, the problem with Test Movie only happens like 20% of
the time. In that case, it only gets solved if I restart or Log Out
at least. I have no idea why the Help panel being open solves the
problem, this only shows that this is probably a little graphic
user interface bug, or something similar, that could be solved very
very easily.
In Flash CS4, there is no Help panel, so there is no solution
to the problem.
It would be nice to be able to press Cmd + Enter to see the
movie, and not have to do File > Export > bla bla bla, open
Finder, Find the SWF, double click it, wait for the browser to
open... etc...
I have a brand new 2.5 GHz MacBook Pro, and Test Movie runs
faster on my 900MHz Pentium III PC!! Funny...
Here are some links I found about this problem:
http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-878
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb407896
http://www.kirupa.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-258991.html
This is quite ridiculous, and on Adobe's Support page, the
solution is "Do not use Test Movie."
And the funny thing is that they didn't even bother to fix
this in CS4...
So basically if something doesn't work, Adobe's solution is
"Don't use it."
I guess they're right!
Please, tell me if anyone has or does not have this problem
or knows anything about it!
Thanks,

Flash CS3 or CS4 Developer Certification
Hi,
I am a flash developer, I am looking for Flash Developer certification in CS3 or CS4 but Adobe still don't have any certification for Flash Developer.
Only Flash CS3 certification are there in Adobe. If Any one know When Adobe Planning to release Flash Developer certification please add that
details in this Forums or If you know any mail id for Adobe certification preparation team also please let know. ThanksAdobe hasn't in the past broken the Flash certification down into Developer v Designer. Adobe only puts an ACE certification on Flash as a whole, with every part of the IDE, including scripting, in the exam.
It looks like they haven't completed a CS4 Flash ACE exam yet, so the only one available is the Flash CS3 ACE.
http://partners.adobe.com/public/ace/main.html
There are, however, specialist certification groups that you can go for, which require passing multiple exams.
http://www.adobe.com/support/certification/ace_certify.html
Look under the two expandable items (designated by "+ Products available for proficiency") -
Download older version of flash CS3 or CS4
where can I download a trial of CS3 or CS4 flash? My mac OS can't handle CS5.
You can purchase older versions of Fireworks on Ebay but be careful of pirated illegal copies. Sometimes you can find a used copy of Fireworks and transfer the title and sometimes you can even find older never-used in-the-box Fireworks software. Some of the older versions might not work on the newer Windows or Mac operating systems.

Mate1) Every post I see that you have made recently reflects on problems that are most likely associated with your computer that are causing problems with your software. 1st thing I would look at with your problems (and I do not mean just this one) is a conflict with another program, ei antivirus software, etc. Trying turning off programs one by one, relaunching your CS programs, and see if you can find a culprit.
2) With that kind of attitude you are only going to receive just as friendly/helpful solutions. Just because SOMEONE ELSE doesn't solve YOUR problem does not mean that THEY are ignorant. -

Does Flash CS3 or CS4 have an Autosave Function?
I can't seem to find it as an option in CS3. If not, is there an extension that I can add in? I've found one for MX, but umm...not using MX and I don't know if it will work in CS3. Thanx.
it's not a native feature of flash.
but guy watson made an autosave extension for flash mx and he may have updated it for cs3 and/or cs4. use google to search.
addendum: using the flash preferences you can enable autosave with testing and publishing -

Help!!! Flash CS3 and CS4 wont save .gifs
Ok, so im trying to save my project as a .gif and it just wont save it right, it marks as if it has already been saved, but when i open the .gif it just displays the first frame.......any help? Am i doing something wrong???? the actual file that im saving is a small animation, with 1 sec of animation, 10 frames, and its appx. 100 x 100 pixels I thought it was the size, but it was not. Any help plz?????
Note, it does saves it right in .swf but not on .gifThose links, did helped me, but that didnt correct the problems that i was getting.
Here is the thing, at least this is how it worked for me.
I was editing the original picture on fireworks, and saw that instead of layers, it was creating bitmap images, saved it as fireworks pdn and imported to flash, and when i finish it didnt save the gif.
I instead opened the original on photoshop, and it created layers instead bitmap, saved it as a photoshop image, opened it on flash, worked on it, and well, guess what??? it did saved it as a gif!!!!!
So wierd, but, why won't it save it from the fireworks one into a gif, and the photoshop one worked good?
It didnt helped me alot mate, but i still thank you for reading this post bro, thanks, and have a nice day ^_^ -
Certified Flash Developer in CS3 or CS4?
Back in 2004 it was possible to become a Macromedia Flash Certified Developer.
No I wonder if it´s possible to become a certified developer in Flash CS3 or CS4.
Can I do this online?
Is there anyone who has the experience of this.
I really appreciate if someone can guide me further of who I became
an Cerified Developer or what Adobe called it nowdays. You can do the ACE exam on CS3, but since CS4 is already out it would be worth waiting until the CS4 exam is out, so you don't have to go again when the CS4 exam is out.
You CAN'T do it online you have to go to a certification partner of Adobe.
You can get more information here: http://www.adobe.com/support/certification/ -
Creating metadata in Flash CS3 and reading it in AS3
Is there a way to store metadata in a library symbol in Flash
CS3, and then read it in AS3? For example, I want to have the
following code run:
m_Metadata = 'You're cool!'
I need this data before I can play the movie clip. Is there a
way to store this? I've been trying to find a solution, but it
looks like I'm just going to have to load in a separate XML file
with the data.
Thanks!Unfortunately there's no simple way to add instance level
code in Flash CS3 or CS4 with AS3. This is a significant authoring
tool deficiency in my opinion.
Making a component... depending on what you want to do, there
can be a lot of overhead. There may also be some very flaky/buggy
behavior in Flash CS3 with custom components if your experience is
anything like mine. However, for basic metadata, try this:
1. Select the Symbol in the Library
2. Right click, choose Component Definition...
3. In the Parameters data grid you can add
parameters/properties. Make sure you set the "Variable" field as a
unique identifier for each parameter. These are the properties
you'll use in AS at runtime to retrieve the values.
4. Now on each instance on the canvas you can go to the
Parameters tab and enter custom values for each parameter.
5. At runtime, you should be able to access the values via
instance_name.variable_name
I believe that will work without actually creating a
component class and making it functional. -
Hi -
I am looking to begin using Flash. I have been looking around for instructor-led training in the Boston area and have only found one for CS3. Will it make a huge difference if I take a CS3 class but purchase CS4? Would I be completely lost?
Thanks!
JessicaYes and no.
There are many HUGE differences between Flash CS3 and CS4.
For starters, CS4 introduced a whole new interface Suite-wide. Flash specifically got an entire overhaul in the backend as well, with the addition of a 2.5D engine, a brand new tweening engine, and many other things that were not in CS3.
The basic workflow of Flash hasn't changed, though. So, as long as you are OK with discerning the differences, you should be fine.
A note. You may want to make sure that you keep the publish settings to FlashPlayer 9 for all class projects. That will rule out many of the new features. Also, the old method of tweening is called "Classic Tween" in CS4. -

Error embed / insert Flash CS3 9.0 swf in Acrobat 8.1.2
Goal: embed Flash swf file in Acrobat pdf.
Software: Flash CS3 9.0, Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Mac OS 10.5.2 (all updates applied as available 3/27/08). If it matters: Quicktime Player 7.4.1. All swf files are associated to open with Flash Player 9 (9,0,115,0).
Hardware: PowerMac Dual 2GHz G5, 9.5 GB RAM
Error Description: This error is seen on 2 out of 3 PowerMacs; the 3rd PowerMac will inexplicably work. Here is what is done to receive error: Open pdf document in Acrobat. Select Movie Tool from Advanced Editing Toolbar, choose swf file from Desktop (pdf file is also saved on Desktop to eliminate network considerations). All defaults are retained in dialog window, when "OK" is pressed, status message "Initializing authoring system" appears and remains indefinitely. "Cancel" is pressed and produces following error message window: "Cannot create the movie annotation because the movie could not be loaded. This can occur if the file cannot be found or the URL is unreachable (make sure proxy server settings are correct)."
Adobe Support claims Leopard incompatibility with embedded Quicktime 7.3.1 (I have updated to 7.4.1). Also, AS recommended file association of swf to Flash Player exclusively. Have taken all actions recommended...still have problem.
Anyone have any ideas?I believe that the latest version of QuickTime which you no doubt have installed does not support the latest version of Flash (9.0). Since Acrobat depends on QuickTime for multimedia in Acrobat 8 Professional, this feature breaks.
What needs to happen is for the next version of Acrobat to support Flash directly, not using QuickTime.
