Flash CS4 and Snow Leopard

Hello there,
Flash CS4 was working perfectly for me for a couple of months (Master Collection), upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday and bam Flash crashes every time I open a .fla file.. SWFs open and operate fine.... but as soon as I create a new file or open a previous fla it bombs out! I reinstalled flash, didn't work... reinstalled the entire master collection, didn't work... tried installing my old version of flash CS3 and THAT won't even open up now without crashing.. I'm currently installing flash on an older machine I have but this is REALLY starting to annoy me as I use flash the most out of all the applications.
What is the point of buying a Mac Pro if I have to use  an old machine to use Flash ?
Please help!
Many Thanks

Ok, after 6 and a half hours of fun I have discovered that the reason for this is due to fonts problems, I had removed my fonts from font agent pro although not from font book..
To see if this problems is what you are having:-
1) Boot up your mac in safe mode (hold down shift immediately after you hear the startup chime) This disbles all fonts
2) Open flash and your problem file (files) or any (fla) file really to check it doesn't crash
3) If flash opens successfully and the file opens showing a missing font dialogue box, you have the same problem..
4) If this is the case reboot..
5) Remove all of your own fonts from your font application (Suitcase/Font Agent Pro)
6) Remove all non system (user) fonts from Font Book (make sure to back up your fonts first as this erase them of the system)
7) Delete the flash preferences (com.adobe.flash-10.0.plist) file located in (user)/Library/Preferences
8) Relaunch flash
With a bit of luck... problem solved !
I hope this saves some other poor soul who had been looking forward to updating their website whilst off work to not waste 6+ hours sorting it out..

  • Clipboard issue with Word and Flash CS4 in Snow Leopard

I use Flash CS4/word 2008 on a regular basis and copy text from word into flash. Since I upgraded to SL, I no longer can paste text into Flash. This is a major productivity killer for me. Are there any global clipboard settings?

That indicates corruption or a conflict within the old account, usually with preference (plist) files. Make a list of the preference files inside the /new user/Library/Preferences/ folder, log back into the old account, move the ones on your list to a folder on the desktop, log out and back in, and see if the behavior is fixed. If so, create another folder on the Desktop, copy the new ones to that folder, and slowly replace a few new ones in /old user/Library/Preferences/ with the same ones first moved, until you find which ones were causing the problem. Delete those and replace with their copies. The process is slow, but required.
Alternatively, you could log into the new one, delete the old one, *electing to save its data (creates a disk image in /Users/Deleted Users/)*, recreate the account, using the same username/password combo, log into it, mount the saved data image, and slowly transfer plist files from it to the recreated one, frequently logging out and back in until you find the bad files.
    Good luck.

  • Cs4 and snow leopard

I got a new macbook pro with a 200gb SSHD about 6 months ago with os 10.5 on it, and installed adobe web premium cs4, flash worked fine. I up-graded to snow leopard a few months after getting my macbook, and still no issue.
Last week the SSHD died and I had it replaced under warranty. The store installed snow leopard straight up this time, and I have just re-installed adobe web premium. All the programs work fine, but the flash icon in the apps folder shows with a cross through it, and if I try to launch flash I get the error: you can’t open the app adobe flash cs4 because it is not supported on this type of mac.
I have done a bit of googling and see mixed reports of problems with flash after up-grading to os10.6 on mac, but not this error.
I have downloaded and installed the up-date 10.0.3 for flash but still no go.
Has anyone had this kind of experience?

Generally, upgrading the OS on a computer that has problem is a known way to make the problems worst. It is usually recommended to repair the cause of the problems first and then do the upgrade.

  • Flash CS3 and Snow Leopard

Hi, i am experiencing a strange and unpleasant situation.
I am using CS3 and upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 last night, along downloading the latest Flash Player for browsers.
Problem is that now all of my text block arent displaying the same line height that before i updated?????
I compared the same exact SWF made under Tiger and those made under Snow Leopard and the two arent identical, lines are misaligned regarding line height!
What gives? Flash or OSX interpreting fonts differently?
    Thanks!

I dont know whats up with this... but all of a sudden today, in my flash cs4 (mac and PC versions) When i go to open a fla in flash to work on it, i select a text box... in the properties window under position and size --- HIEGHT-(selection hieght) value is grayed out... I opened fla's that i had don before but this also now affects them as well. I tried opening on my PC .. now it does the same thing. Every file i open now.. when i got to the properties of a text box ... the height values are grayed out. I am using Palatino roman font... in a simple text box.
    Position and size:
    x:20       y:15
    w:264     H:335.2 <-------- grayed out!!!
I have opened these files in cs3... and that now is also experiencing this......
PLEASE HELP... Im in the middle of a project --- with extreme deadlines...
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
    my post....
saw yours.. wondering if this is related.. Im running Snow Leopard now to.. just started. Then the Height variable became grayed out. In your properties windows, are you experiencing the same??
It's killing me...Im an animator that does books... I am unable to adjust this value, and when i sent the fla to someone else... they say they see everything fine, but when i view it.. the Text spacing in multiline text box is different than discribed back to me... My line height is much larger than what he is seeing.
Please let me know if you find anything.

  • Flash CS4 on Snow Leopard Crashes When I Open File - How do I fix?

    Hi everybody:
I hate to start a new thread but I didn't see one pertaining to this issue. I hope I am not alone. I recently bought a new iMac and it came with Snow Leopard OS. I ported over my Web Premium Creative Suite and all of my applications work great except for Flash CS4. I open the app to the intro screen but as soon as I try to open an existing project file or even to create a new project file, the app crashes immediately. I tried calling Adobe Support but they only turn me away, saying I need to purchase a $175 Support Plan for help. I just want my Flash to open. The same app works fine on my Macbook Pro (running Leopard). It seems adobe should be willing to help seeing as how the specifications say it is supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard. Anyway, I have tried installing all updates and Deactivating/Uninstalling and Reinstalling. But alas, Flash still crashes every time. PLEASE Help!!!

I have a similar issue.  I have the CS4 Design Premium with all updates on an iMac running 10.6.  All Adobe apps work except for Flash 10.0.2.566.  All apps worked perfectly under 10.5.  Within seconds of loading a file or clicking 'New' Flash terminates generating an Apple crash report (see exerpt below) - not an Adobe crash report.
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000004
Crashed Thread:  0  Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
(BTW, sometimes a normal Quit is interpreted as a crash by the other CS4 apps.  Could this be related?)

  • CS4 and Snow Leopard causing menu problems?

I'm a long long time Dreamweaver 8 Windows user.  Since Dreamweaver 8 has been crashy on the Mac, I've stuck there for a long time.
I downloaded CS4 trial and upgraded to Snow Leopard at about the same time.
The main problem is that pulldown menus seem to be very buggy.  I've got to click them a bunch of times and the computer seems to hang till I've somehow managed to click it.  What's up with that?  It's ONLY in Dreamweaver.  (I don't use other CS4 products so I would know otherwise).
Also every time I go to refresh, or upload or download, it seems that the "Cannot do the operation because DW is communicating with the server already" message comes up.  The second try it seems to work fine...  What's up with that?
Also, why has Dreamweaver not yet added a pulldown which allows coders to jump quickly to functions?  If there's one reserved word that is EVERYWHERE, it's functions.  How come every other IDE has this?  It's 2009 for goodness sake!!!
I'm probably NOT going to spend the money at this point... My hopes for improvement for DW's core functionality after all these years have not been met.
If you want to see a freaking awesome program that has much of the crucial information figured out beautifully, see scootersoftware's beyondcompare3.  PC only, but what an amazing piece of work (the threading is incredible...)
Oh, and code hints and tag completion seems to have disappeared...

Suffice it to say, Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6) has issues with many apps & utilities.

"Snow Leopard also automatically installs Java SE 6,  meaning  programs that require previous versions of Java may not run properly."
I don't use Mac, but I take this to mean that rolling back your Java may improve things.  Not sure, but it might be worth a shot (albeit in the dark).
    Good luck,

  • Main monitor colors are bizarre in PS CS4 and Snow Leopard...

Also ColorEyes Display Pro, Snow Leopard, Eizo monitor, and PS CS4 are not playing well together. I I "dumb down" the calibrating software, I can get a result but that's another issue (sorta?)
I have tried several software calibration attempts from different manufacturers (Spyder, Apple, Eizo), even Apple's own built in calibrator and despite this PS CS4 visually hates all the profiles I select on the Apple Cinema HD (both LUT and Matrix, both manually tuned and system controlled on the profiling). All of this despite having the notorious "Open GL" turned off. It just looks bad in CS4 (colors are noticeably off), and the menu bar is on that monitor. Weird. This does not happen in other apps tested w/ the color of the monitor.
    Any help? Thanks

I have reported a possibly related issue with my main display profile in the Adobe Color Management Forum and Apple Discussions.  It is not exactly the same issue, because you don't need Photoshop to see it.  I upgraded 2 machines to Snow Leopard, and only one has the problem.  Unfortunately, that one is my work machine.  Never mind...  I know, I know.
In the Color Management Forum, I posted a screen shot that shows the issue clearly.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/488570?tstart=0
It is very puzzling.  The same custom display profile appears differently in Snow Leopard, on the same hardware.  Also, I haven't yet been able to create a satisfactory profile in Snow Leopard using my Eye1 Display2 calibrator.  My work machine is an early 2008 Mac Pro with Apple 30" Cinema Display.  This setup looks quite different on the same profile as before.  My 2007 MacBook Pro 17" at home also had a custom profile, and looks exactly the same as before the Snow Leopard upgrade.  Go figure.
I booted back into the clone of my old Leopard system that I of course made before the upgrade, and the screen looks just fine there.  I got a screen capture of Apple's red, yellow & green window control buttons in Leopard, then displayed this screen shot in Preview in Snow Leopard, so you can see the vibrant & contrasty look from Leopard right next to the soft, dull, washed-out look in Snow Leopard.  It boggles my brain how Snowy can display the Leopard look in the image, but not in its own interface elements.
Not many reports of this issue yet.

  • Any success stories? PS & Ai CS4 and Snow Leopard

I ran out of memory too many times on my G-5 iMac with 2.5 GIG of ram trying to run PS & Ai at the same time.
So I bought a Mac Pro tower (Quad Core- 2.66 w/ 10 GIG ram). I purchased this reconditioned (at the advice of Apple Care) so that I could downgrade the system from Snow Leopard to Leopard. It would have worked fine, but the folks in the reconditioning department decided to ship me a new machine instead of a reconditioned one. So now I CAN NOT down grade the system.
I want a system that works! I have lost too much time with all these PS crashes- so I thought it would be safe to go with Leopard + CS4 + tons of ram. Well that is not going to work. Apple is happy to take the computer back- but I have bought the ram & monitor from a third party retailer. (I am stuck with that.)
I would love to keep this tower if I can hear from some of you wonderful power users that now (after many months of problems) you have found Snow Leopard & CS 4 willing to play happily together.
And yes, I thought about CS 5- but from the posts in this forum- it sounds even worse that what I am going through right now. (Having to restart my computer after Photoshop crashes because I have been going back and forth between PS & Ai and one or the other refuses to give make my memory!)
    Anybody have any success stories?

    JV:
I would be lost without my Alien Skin filters!
I was working in a perfect world: new machine, clean install of 10.6.4
Then I loaded PS CS 4 & AI CS 4- then the filters.
The versions I have were for Leopard & Snow Leopard (downloaded 11/09).
I only add the fonts I need & have been careful that they are full licensed fonts from reprutable foundries.
I am not taking any chances with this machine.
I use my old G-5 iMac running 10.4.11 for everything else. I am a Freehand user so my plan all along was to keep that computer for that.
But I also keep all Microsoft & web surfing on that machine too.
There is a good article from Alien Skin regarding installation in Snow Leopard:

    Good luck!

  • Flash Video and Snow Leopard

After being able to watch live streaming flash video with Leopard these same live streams no longer work with Snow Leopard
    http://www.hancockwildlife.org/index.php?topic=cam-sites
Is there a fix ? Do have Adobe Flashplayer 10 installed as well and it still no luck.

They're working for me with Snow Leopard, so it's not a problem that affects every SL user, at any rate.
What web browser are you using? Are you able to successfully get Flash to work on Adobe's test page?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 and Snow Leopard problems!!

I recently updated to Mac OSX Snow Lopard and now the files I have created in Premiere Pro won't open or constantly crash!
Is there any solution besides uninstalling Snow Leopard?

You can always create a new project and import old one into new one. More likely it is some old plugging or filter or third party transition quit working and not letting you to open project.

  • Illustrator CS4 and Snow Leopard

Does Illustrator CS 4 work well with Snow Leopard?
    Richard

    Dear Vanhorn-Flex,
Can you tell me what configuration you are running?
ie. System version 10.6.2 or 10.6.4
Mac Book Pro or Pro Tower how many processors, speed, etc.
    How much ram? etc.
    Thanks

  • Flash Player and Snow Leopard

Have 10.6.1 installed. Websites w/video (i.e. YouTube , ESPN) freeze up my browsers (FireFox and Safari). Hearing that it may have something to do with the internet plug-ins, specifically the flash player. All worked when 10.6.1 was first installed.
    Help, thanks

Should not need to do again. It was only that doing an upgrade install left fonts and conflicts behind.
I tend to disable or manually empty Safari metadata cache, it gets large and doesn't have a quota system or size limit. And after a point instead of help, it just causes more disk I/O.
The problem with plug-ins is not just a 64-bit or lack of issue, it is growing pains, baby steps into 64-bit world. It doesn't happen with Windows 7 x64 at all, even with dozen youtube, itunes, and more thrown at it.
The cpu is designed to see requests, trouble is it turns into "cat chasing its own tail" as memory is moved to/from disk to memory, from there to cache, to the proper task and core, and actually "thrashes" - core thrashing. Need to see more optimization of code for new multi-core systems, especially 2009 models with their hyper-threading.

  • Problems with Photoshop CS4 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now my Photoshop CS4 is constantly crashing on me.  Adobe was no help.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?  I don't want to purchase CS5 just to prevent this from happening. I had no problems with CS4 w 10.5.8.  I also did a software update on CS4.  Help please!!

    "...Adobe was no help...."
Meaning what exactly? CS4 should work with some problems. Google, "cs4 and snow leopard" and read the issues. You are also not alone if you look the the right side of this web page under, "More Like This" you'll others with the same issue.

  • Acrobat CS4 under Snow Leopard

hello one and all, just received new CS4 web premium and installed on a new mac pro with snow leopard 10.6.1.  printing to the acrobat 9 printer doesn't work.  it gets up to asking for the location and filename of the pdf file, the host software sends the print pages to the driver, but the pdf file never shows up on the harddrive.  additionally, acrobat will die unexpectantly by simply opening a pdf file.  i am hoping/betting that this is because i installed CS4 under snow leopard and i am anxiously awaiting updates to bring stability to the CS4 products.  thank you.  lucas

Here's one way to accomplish having a PDF printer in Snow Leopard:
Requirements: 2 computers—one running Snow Leopard and one running an OS in which the PDF printer appears in the print menu, say Tiger 10.4.11, for example.
    1. On the Tiger computer:
    a. In Preferences, turn on Print Sharing.
    b. In Preferences, make the Adobe PDF Printer share-able.
    2. On the Snow Leopard computer:
    a. In Preferences: add the Adobe PDF printer, which will appear as a Bonjour printer after you clik +
Note that files may not appear where you expect them: printing to pdf results in files being generated on the Tiger computer's desktop (for me).
This was arrived at working with an Apple Support Tech named Eric: thanks, Eric!
Adobe: Printing to pdf is by no means replaced by the drop-down, especially for batch processing of many items.
A way to create a properly scaled pdf and eps file from any application is key for many people.

  • We have an older apple computer with safari version 5.1.10 and snow leopard version 10.6.8 do you have something compatable?

Does adobe make a version for a older apple computer, with a safari version 5.1.10 and snow leopard 10.6.8 .

Flash Player is still supported on that os/browser combination (see Adobe Flash Player | Tech specs).  You can download the latest version from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.
